Do you think there will be a new nexus X out in December, like the last two years. Tempted to jump on the free nexus S today but just not sure...doesn't seem that much better than my n1.
Maybe maybe not, but I just got one really like it. I figure I can always sell it on the 2nd hand market and it should retain some value!
I believe so, I got mine days for the evo 3d dropped and could care less about all the checkbox features and some of those beastly phones out there.
This phone works and battery life is great.

Its more relavent than my g2 that i just replaced it with.
As far as i'm concerned, it is definitely still relevant.
I just bought the nexus S (off contract) because my samsung captivate decided to crap out on me and I don't regret it now for one second.
I was eyeing the EVO 3D when it came out up here in Canada but, due to my current situation, couldn't wait long.
I thought of a few points after I bought the Nexus S that made me realize it was the Google phone to get.
a) Much better chance of getting updates from Google with the Nexus S than I would've got with HTC, LG, etc. I learned that the hard with with the captivate.
b) Battery life. On my first full charge and I am over 15hrs with 50% battery life left. I imagine I would never get that kind of battery life on the EVO 3D because of the dual cores, 3d gimmick (can turn off though), and their UI sucking out the battery life very quick.
c) No carrier crap on the phone. (also can be a battery sucker)
Imho, keep your N1 if you don't need a new phone (or contract) right now. If you're due to a new contract/renewing old one later I'd wait until the "Nexus 3" is out some time this year or early '12. If you're just wanting a new phone, I'd wait as well
I love my Ns but my missus just got the Galaxy s 2, and its a BEAST!
Its stupid fast and just seems to take everything u throw at it, live wallpapers that make my Ns lag stay super smooth on the S2. But hey, she will only get 1 or 2 updates to Android at best I recon as opposed the Nexus getting much more. Still the S2 made me think a bit...
I would wait a bit if I were you, the NS dont bring much more to the table than you already have with your N1.
Isn't nexus one still popular

Which live wallpapers make your NxS lag? I tried a few, I only got the fireworks one from the market (Go! devs wallpaper team) to really stress my phone, but it was still fluent (initial drawer opening was not as fast as before though).
Wow NExus S is faraway better than other smartphones.

So I was on the border of whether or not to buy the g2x, or wait for the sensation. The locked bootloader on the sensation sealed the deal and on april 20th, 2011, I was the proud owner of a shiny new G2x! A little background is in order... I've been using Htc's since g1. Fast forward through an mt3g, n1, hd2 (android) and an mt4g. Always happy until the washed out screen on the mt4g. But I'm not one to complain, so it was all good. I gave my wife the mt4g when I bought the g2x. Shes running evild's sensation rom. And I must say, IT HAS GIVIN THE MT4G A NEW LIFE! Ive actually gotten a little jealous... I've had random reboots when ocing, lag with certain roms,, and freezing with certain roms. But nothing a battery pull can't fix. My question is, when the sensation is available, should I sell the g2x and buy the sensation? What is everyones opinion and why...

I wouldn't pull the trigger just quite yet. They never said anything about the current boot loader devices . I think maybe only future devices. Who knows I could be wrong

I agree. Wait until the bootloader is actually unlocked and then buy it. Who knows, maybe by then we might have a stable build of cm7 and you wont want to switch

Your phone, your choice.
My advice would be to wait about 30 days. By then the official gingerbread update will be out (hopefully) and with that, new kernel and baseband for the devs to develop new roms.

Ultimately yes ill do what I want. My wife told me to buy the sensation and keep the g2x... I can only use one device at a time lol I have no use for 2 devices... I think I'm just disappointed in the unreliabilty of my specific g2x. And its obviously a widespread issue. Needless to say, as fond as I am of the g2x, I'm seriously considering selling it and getting the sensation. Plus, I'm getting bored with the g2x and maybe even the whole constant flashing and modding in general. Spending hours modding framework and editing .pngs just seems to be getting too tedious I guess. On the flip side, the sensation is a solid respectable device with great hardware. Rooted or not. And I'm sure someone will have the unlock key dropped in their lap soon enough ;-). I'm just looking for an excuse to not sell this monster lol

I agree about the Sensation looking solid, but my G2x and many others where bought fairly cheap. I got mine for 119 from amazon. For that price I'll gamble. So far my gamble has paid back. Great device with barely any hiccups. Makes my Nexus S look bad.

I paid 200 after rebate... In release day. Cheap... Definitely, but the full price of the phone was cheap to begin with, so I guess the contact price is relevant. It will be interesting to see what the sensation goes for a month after release in craigslist...

That would be interesting to see what the price would be on craigslist. I've got so many phones to choose from it's really about preference. I've got 5 lines all have net and all have upgrades available. My kids and wife get my hand me downs. For me at the moment the G2X has no competition on T Mobile. The minor hiccups are software related for sure. So there going to be fixed or some great rom will make it perfect. Currently running stock with the bloat removed and it's snappy. No reboots, hardly no backlight issues, keyboard has no lag, so if I compare to my other phones which are Nexus S, Nexus One, Sidekick 4G, G2, and my dads Inspire. I'm definitely liking this phone. It would take the Sensation to really be sensational to make this phone go. My wife already has her hopes up that I'll fall for the Sensation, she loves the G2X. The phone is great, has some issues but I'm sure LG will fix them all. Guess if your phone is screwy, demand they replace and give you a new one. But I definitely waited to see what this phone was capable of before I pulled the trigger, I'll do the same with the Sensation.

Yea, I will be buying the sensation outright if I get it. The support for the g2x has been phenomenal. Which is my biggest reason for holding in to it. Tmobile has always been deutschebags about swapping my handset. Even though I buy atleast 2 phones a year from them. So I'm just at the point where I am tired of dealing with them and deal with my original purchase.

Where did you read that? Im pretty sure tmo is getting the sgs2. I keep saying people should hold off until they (tmo or lg) releases these supposed updates. IMO the g2x blows away ANY of the amoled screens i have seen. and just because it has an xtra .2 processing power doesnt mean its going to be better or faster.
Once the g2x updates are released (im hoping one will be a fix for the lg and the other will be the official GB release for the g2x). ME personally I wont be getting any htc phones until they make some decent cameras. Thats just me though. its funny my g2x is near perfect other than battery drain. And battery charging takes for freaken ever. My d2 charged full in 30 min go figure! BUT my womans g2x which she got a few months after mine has almost ALL the defects: screen bleed, reboots serious battery drain, and she gets the sleep of death contstantly.

any who, I'm selling the G2X some time in the next couple weeks, I'm in the same boat as the OP, except I don't have much issues besides a tiny screen bleed top corners and a reboot since I've had the device 4/24... I just love HTC Sense and HTC phones plus I have an upgrade available so selling the G2X and getting the Sensation will not be an issue. I say sell and purchase new phone. There was a tmo roadmap leaked that didn't show the galaxy s 2 but mentioned the Hercules. Also there was another leak from an accessories manufacturer that showed the names for the sprint, at&t, and Verizon gs2 but didn't mention anything for TMobile. The Hercules should be pretty much a gs2 but with a bigger screen and maybe a qualcom processor instead of exynos and 42mb/s radio
Edit: I love my g2x and the support is getting from the greatest devs in the android community. Just wanted to put that out there

How long do you guys think the Infuse 4G will last in the Market of ever improving phones? Will it last the next few years, say until an upgrade is eligible? Or will it simply fall apart compared to upcoming phones in the next few years? Personally, I love my Infuse, and I think it'll last at least a year to three in terms of specs and software. Please, discuss.
Ok, this is one thing you need to learn when it comes to new phones / laptops/ technology in general. In a year, IT WILL BE OUTDATED. I got the Samsung Captivate and could not imagine a better phone ---besides it's constant GPS issues and until the charging port broke on it...but that was partly my fault. I got this phone and it is great as well--even better than the Captivate. At the time, I did not think that was possible.
The thing you want to do is buy a quality product for the time. The Infuse is one of those things. If you take good care of it, it will last you. I fell off of my bike a few weeks back going downhill. I was pretty banged up. My Infuse, even though it was in a case, got pretty banged up--- cosmetically around those silver edges. It is fully functioning otherwise. It is a solid product. It will last you a long time if you don't abuse it.
For example -- -I still have the Samsung Blackjack 2 as my backup phone and I use it when my "newer and better" phones give me problems. I've had it for forever. It is still a good phone despite being years old. You have a decent phone now--- we all do, as far as the Infuse is concerned. I haven't heard too many complaints, but only time can tell if that will change. Treat it well and it will remain good to you.
The sg2 looks identical to the infuse(slightly smaller on at&t) , except with a better resolution and much better cpu, so I think the infuse will be obsolete when the sg2 hits the states. Nevertheless, I love my infuse and I think it's one of the best phones out right now.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I'm just asking if you guys think it'll last the above-average Android user the next few years. I know it's already outdated. It was probably outdated before it even came out.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
depends on the user. there isnt much the phone can't do but it depends on samsung releasing updates and on the community to put out quality mods. to be honest with a good rom a droid could still be a viable phone. my friend has a nexus1 and loves it. i actually kinda envy it, i love the screen and media capabilities on samsung phones but as a phone the nexus is perfect and there is no reason it should need to be anything more.
i have a phone lust though. i will likely get the sgsiii or whatever comes after the sgsii long before my contract is up.
The Infuse right now is still the absolute best phone on AT&T.
And will stay that way till the SGS 2 comes out....

Sgs2 and infuse have the same resolution. 480x800 wvga.
I was looking at the specs of Galaxy II and the one thing I won't switch my infuse for is battery. It has 1600mA while Infuse has 1750mA. So when it comes to dual CPU, it should drain battery down pretty bad. I mean why will you ever even use that power on the phone unless you compute rocket science data using it. 4G also has a big mouth for drinking the juice out of your phone.
I'm not trying to say it is horible, it just would be a major concern if I'm a heavy data user.

The phone is already outdated when you bought it, but that is the rule with all tech lol. Will it last 5 years. If you take care of it sure but will it still be getting upgrades. Most likely not sense we are seeing higher and higher system requirements to run the newer updates.
It is confirmed the nexus S will get the ics update, hardware wise there's no reason the infused couldn't handle the update also. It's up to att and Sammy.

I am not saying it couldnt handle it, just saying that after the first OS update I would not look for any others. IF it gets 1 more after that then it will be lucky. As for the Nexus S, I had great hopes for it but then I found the Nexus S was by samsung and thought ok ill wait for the next and not the new prime may be a samsung as well so looks like ill wait till the next nexus is an HTC. But if it is a samsung or HTC as long as the phone is bought through ATT dont expect to get the same number of updates as the Euro versions of the same phone. They always will get more updates then its US counter parts. As always been the case and always will be.
This is why the nexus line is a safe bet typically, as it is 'googles' phone, the updates are fast and frequent. The S is a Sammy, but no need to wait on them making the updates play nice with tw .

Hi guys and the girl that looks like a guy.
Ok so here it is, I'm on GayT&T and currently have the HTC Inspire on contract. Done a million things with it, grew bored and went and picked up a Samsung Nexus S off contract.
No i'm not "ballin" but time after time with my Inspire I went for CM7 and the whole AOSP thing, so I said screw it and went and picked one up.
Here is the hard part, I have untill the 27th, which my 30 return policy runs out at Best Buy.
I love the Nexus S completely stock, the camera is the only thing I dislike about it.
My Inspire, battery sucks, GPS never worked, build quality is **** and I wouldn't mind getting rid of it.
Ok now the really hard part.
Samsung Galaxy SII is rumored for launch via GayT&T sometime this week! Phone looks to be amazing, only problem is the 4.3" display.
After owning the Nexus S I have become quite fond of the smaller size and it feels great.
So I don't know if I should return the Nexus S then turn around and buy the SGSII off contract, which I havent seen a price yet, but you all know what I payed for the NS so what do you think?
HELP ME I'M GOING [email protected]!#!!
not a fan of Nexus S, had it since it came out december 2010
good phone, but poor reception, no SD card slot
SGS2 is definitely the phone to go for, excellent in every way, and you can still run stock Android on it if you wanted to CM7 is already out for SGS2
if i were you i'll definitely return the Nexus S and get the SGS2
but don't expect to see anything for less than $600
you don't need to wait for GayT&T to release SGS2
the international version works just fine for the GayT&T network, not to mention it's unlocked from factory
the GayT&T version might be locked
Thanks for the reply, I feel like I'm in the world series and I'm in a pickle between home and 3rd in a tied game in the bottom of the ninth. Lol

Keep the Nexus S, even though the sgs2 is suppose to be faster, with all the bloatware and everything else on it that takes up RAM, you'll find no matter what phone even the EVO 3D will not be as smooth as NS. I highly suggest you keep it over the sgs2 you'll regret returning it, I'm willing to bet.

It may be years ahead, but it will never be as smooth as the NS, NS4G. Non develeoper phones have to much bloatware, and crap taking up ram. Where Nexus has nothing but android. Plus you see almost every phone forum trying or has developed AOSP to be exactly like the nexus. Everyone wants it, but no one will ever have it as flawlessly as we do, plus nexus gets updates 10x faster. Overall better.

I could see them not returning it for some bogus reason.
There is hairline scratches on the battery door though.

AT&T just announced the SGSII release date of October 2, for $199. Good luck with that.
I know I just saw it, packed the phone up, cried a little LOL

My thoughts after picking up a Nexus S on Friday
I have been trying figure out what phone to get next after the Captivate for a few months now. Cappy is a great phone however considering all the stuff we had to do to it just to get the phone working right it has sometimes been a love hate relationship. Lag, GPS, lack of updates etc...
When the SGSII came out I saw just about everybody abandon the Cappy even those that swore that they would never buy another Samsung phone again after all the issues with the early Cappy builds. SGS2 is an incredible phone with no major issues and it tempted me greatly but I did not want to deal with getting updates from Samsung and AT&T anymore. The new Nexus Galaxy is the phone to get but at the price they will be asking it just doesn't appeal to me along with the size of the phone. I am not a big gamer, nor do I watch movies on my phone so having a gigantic phone is not very practical since it's my work phone too.
That lead me to the Nexus S which I had always wanted and they are so cheap now that they are a steal.
Gingerbread 2.3.4 right out of the box and about an hour after I had everything set up I rec'd a notice on my phone that the ota update to 2.3.6 was ready to flash. Now that's how updates should work. Smooth, fast and everything works without any tweaking and battery life is great so far. I don't feel the need to do anything beyond rooting at the moment and Ice Cream Sandwich is right around the corner.
Yeah, blah blah blah, no 720P native playback or recording but why watch movies on my phone when I have a 60" big screen.
Cappy relegated to backup status for now!
I agree fully with the update thing.
Btw nice name Roof King
I am not amused by your phones performance

Supremacy of the shingled variety indeed

I swore that I wouldn't buy another Samsung Android device, and I'm sticking to my word. Waiting for the HTC Raider/Holiday, or some random Motorola device, now that they are Google-owned.

That's cool but we care why? Not being rude but if you don't like Sammy phones I really don't think most care.

Samsung has my allegience just by theyre screen alone. I got my cappy for FREE at upgrade time last year and its been WELL worth it lol

Htc makes some decent phones but Samsung is kicking their a$$ right now. They are dominating the market with some sweet phones and that's why Google is sticking with Sammy for the nexus line. Plus the screen to rule all other screens.

I keep looking to buy used or make future plans, but my tbolt is smooth, has a kickstand, voice and data at the same time.... there is nothing I want to upgrade to. Maybe wait on the S3? No reason to get a dual core, but might as well wait on quad.
My question, has anyone upgraded and found a vastly superior experience from current Verizon phones? I think I can last many more months and be happy on this phone....

I'm in the same boat as you.. I know a lot of people with new Verizon phones and there is no way i would spend another $250 to upgrade at this point... This phone runs great

+ 1 here as well. I actually chose the thunderbolt as my upgrade device in january.
Why?
For the features and money, anything else verizon is... Meh...

had a fascinate and i didn't think this TB would be so much of a upgrade as it turned out to be. my wife gets jealous of it and she has a bionic... who would've though...?
I was going to make a thread like this today...
And even compared to the nexus we still have an unlocked bootloader, 4G, 32 gig removable card, removable batt, gorilla glass, a better 8 mp camera, and kickstand... plus ics on the way
Nexus has face unlock, nfc, samoled, dc (not a game changer), ics already and will get jellybean first, non-removable card, and a worse camera...
None of those things are worth $300 imo!

Wow, TB love all around! I've actually been eligible for an upgrade for a few months now, but the Nexus didn't seem like that much of an upgrade. I was really looking into the Droid 4 (have tinges of keyboard envy), but idk -- it just didn't seem worth it. I hate to waste my early upgrade, but I think I might just wait the normal 2 years.
FWIW, I'm still totally stock, aside from using Go Launcher. I haven't even rooted or rom'd, so there's probably a whole other world to explore on this phone. I also have the Rezound battery and just got a new dock (the $10 one from htcpedia), which would be a shame to waste.
I love this phone. ICS would be nice, but i probably wouldnt use it without sense. I get great battery life, have beats audio, and a very smooth rom built for a dual core. Rezound would be nice, but im very happy.

There's no way I'm replacing my Thunderbolt until I can get a phone that has the same flexibility (removable SD card, unlockable, rootable, lots of ROM options) and also has NFC.
Basically, Thunderbolt + NFC + better specs in all categories, is what I'm after, before I'd consider upgrading.
Yeah, the main thing for me is unlocked & 4G . . .
I love my liquid 3.2 aosp rom as well, this thing is so fast.
Getting rid of sense dropped the size of my TiBU folder from 705 mb to 210 mb due to the lesser amount of stock apps
I have an upgrade on my acct that i can use, but i think there is nothing worth upgrading to
Whats the deal with the rezound battery? Is it the same size with a larger capicity?

I'm getting nexus today. Got another upgrade in October if something better comes out.

sounds awesome! if money wasn't an issue, i would prob snag one today as well with the $100 discount, but i'll just wait a bit for an ota ics release
Got a droid razr maxx, and it is hands down superior in every way...espicially now that I am running ICS (AOKP)...wifey has the TB, and every time I touch it I am happy I upgraded.

Well, didn't work out the way I liked. I could get upgrade but would have to pay $300 today. I called verizon twice and express my opinion on that, since it's $100 off today, and got hanged up on. Great support. So gonna wait 15 more days.

IDK how a locked bootloader Moto is in every way 'superior', it's not even fully rooted - all you can do, boiled down, is lots of skinning and themes.
Call me simple, but that doesn't sound superior to me; sounds more like a cr-apple product.

I am rocking the airborne rom, and I must say it is the best. I also have MIUI V5 on standby via bootmanager

Ever since the battery life was fixed in one of the updates it's been a great phone. There are definitely some phones that I would consider an overall upgrade but not worth $. If I could upgrade and get a free Rezound, Razr or Nexus I might strongly consider...
Bionic is free but not really sure if I would pick a free Bionic over a free TBolt.
I'm with you guys, until there's another voice+data phone I'm not upgrading.
If Motorola started playing nice again and didn't encrypt the damn boot loader I'd be all about the Droid 4 as I miss my physical keyboard from my D1.
However, my biggest thing is that with AOSP email client doesn't work right when forwarding attachments. Which apparently is a non-issue in MotoBlur... I haven't used it, so can't say.

I had a Tb and now a Galaxy Nexus. I would say the experience is definitely superior, especially the display and stock android ics. I had lots of lag on my Tb, terrible battery drain, and the proximity sensor sucked balls. I hung up on people so many freaking times with my cheek it was ridiculous. The Nexus is a lot of fun and has been 100% stable. I was expecting a lot of bugs in ics but everything runs great. Get one today and don't look back, lol.

I don't think the GN will get Jelly Bean first (at least officially). If I'm not mistaken there has always been a new Nexus with the new OS.
With that being said back to the original topic, I'm pretty happy with my TB. I have 2 upgrades available on my account and none of the recent phones have intrigued me enough to use one.
Sure I'd like ICS now but not enough to buy a GN, and the other phones (Rezound, RAZR, RAZR Max, LG Spectrum - yes I am including it because it has specs pretty close to the Rezound) are in the same boat as the TB waiting on a promised ICS release. Which means they aren't utilizing those dual core chips to their full potential anyways.
