Hey.
Should I sell G2X and get Galaxy S II?
Is it worth it?
What are some points where G2X is better than SGS II....or any flaws you know about SGS II?
Thanks.
If you fast forward the clock about a month from now...and you factor in the probability of an official gb release and give the devs here a short time with that release, I think any spec advantage of the S2 would end up being just a side-grade. It would make much more sense to hang out a little, enjoy the g2x as it is bound to get better and better. And save the pennies up for the next upgrade to a quad core phone. I really doubt you would see any "real-world" difference in performance between the 2 phones.
Of course, depending on the severity of your screen bleed. If it's very minor like mine is, then it won't matter. Mine is so minor, I only see it visible when I'm in clockwork recovery screen. Whoopdidoo. But some others here have claimed their phone leaks all around the screen. Of course, I have yet to see any screenshots or pictures of this, so I don't buy into a lot of the "poor me" stories.

I have both and I can tell you this. SGS2 has no lag anywhere. It's the most responsive phone out there. Engadget review even says it is "Class-leading speed and responsiveness". I have installed 150+ apps. As soon as I go in the App Manager and every app and their icons are already loaded; same goes for creating an Application shortcut. There is zero lag when installing apps, period. Swiping notification bar up and down extremely smooth while installing apps. I can be copying many files in background and still be able to use the phone or play games like normal. Wait till Gingerbread for Tegra 2 then we can compare, but I doubt it will be as lagfree as SGS2. Most of those I mentioned can't be done without delays on G2X.
If you want to know more about SGS2, check out 1080p Flash videos playing in browser or 20 opened browser tabs playing Megaupload videos on SGS2.
I have 241 apps installed here and don't have any lag whatsoever.

Yes you should.
Same phone with slightly better screen, gimped with touchwiz interface. And Samsung doesn't exactly have the best track record.
Think about buying a used car. You could get a really reliable one. But you could also get a lemon. You know what problems your current phone has. And I'd say we're all pretty confident the G2x's issues will be ironed out very soon.
I would stick with the g2x.

I second this. I tried rooted custom roms and I ran into a bunch of constant reboots and overheating issues. Now I'm on the stock rooted 2.2 rom and I couldn't have been more please. My only gripe is that the GPS takes a little long to lock, but once it locks the phone works flawlessly. I would not spend any money on another phone unless it is something truly spectacular or its the next upcoming Nexus phone. The G2x has the specs, we just need the software to be ironed out. I honestly love this phone. I have a slight bit of screen bleed, but nothing drastic.

YES !!!! 100% yes !
But first wait until SGS2 gonna get it Cyanogen.
Or better let's wait official GB update, if it's gonna be "same ****" my next phone will be -SGS2, and after on Christmas- Nexus 3.
Once the SG2S hits the US market, bye bye G2X!

I'm gonna keep my G2x for a couple more months, then sell it on the bay or CL. Next, I'll use that money to finance my purchase of the Samsung Hercules, which be launching on T-mobile in late August/mid September. The specs on the Hercules put the SGS2, Sensation and G2x to shame imo.
Is the g2x ever going to get gingerbread? It's been after "before summer" for a long time. I haven't heard anything about it in weeks.

How does Touch Wiz gimp Android. The original Touch Wiz gimped Android but the latest version is probably the least intrusive out of any custom UI. If you don't like the looks of Touch Wiz then simply load ADW or LP. Its what most of us do on our G2X since vanilla is a little boring. Once you load your launcher of choice, Touch Wiz becomes non existant except for the features that do nothing but improve Android in a great way such as drop down notification toggles/settings, contacts list that is one of the best out there. I love how you can swipe right on a contact to call them and swipe left to start a text. So in the end. I ask you. Can you name 3 things that would get on your nerves with Touch Wiz after you load a launcher?

Why would you have to switch to ATT? I've said it before and Ill say it again. I know most of you dont believe me that my step father heads Samsungs corporate insurance division in the US. Yes, Samsung has its hands in the insurance business. Anyway, he hears a few things here and there and he recently told me, the reason why the GSII is taking so long to hit the US shores is because Samsung wants a simultaneous launch across the major carriers. He didn't know if T Mobile was included in this but he said Verizon, ATT and Sprint will all launch on the same day.

The SGS2 just got its fourth update in two months. This one improved battery life, increased Wi-Fi signal strength, and sped up GPS lock time; three things users were asking for. Another update's due out by the end of the month bringing the phone up to 2.3.4 and integrating Google+ in to the Social Hub. How's that LG update coming along?

the reason I want the Samsung GSII is a matter of personal preference. I happen to like touchwiz, the amoled screen, and IMO Samsung phones take fantastic pictures in any lighting. I wasn't going to start a thread about it I just hang tight with my G2x until then haha.
i can't wait tho... people if you want the strength in numbers, the supply and demand iPhone users enjoy without iOS and or ****ty at&t then Samsung is the only choice. they're spearheading to the front for the number one android smart phone and I believe they can do it. haters gonna hate buy look at the aforementioned facts that I quoted or sales figures. people loving these phones all around the world

How long do you guys think the Infuse 4G will last in the Market of ever improving phones? Will it last the next few years, say until an upgrade is eligible? Or will it simply fall apart compared to upcoming phones in the next few years? Personally, I love my Infuse, and I think it'll last at least a year to three in terms of specs and software. Please, discuss.
Ok, this is one thing you need to learn when it comes to new phones / laptops/ technology in general. In a year, IT WILL BE OUTDATED. I got the Samsung Captivate and could not imagine a better phone ---besides it's constant GPS issues and until the charging port broke on it...but that was partly my fault. I got this phone and it is great as well--even better than the Captivate. At the time, I did not think that was possible.
The thing you want to do is buy a quality product for the time. The Infuse is one of those things. If you take good care of it, it will last you. I fell off of my bike a few weeks back going downhill. I was pretty banged up. My Infuse, even though it was in a case, got pretty banged up--- cosmetically around those silver edges. It is fully functioning otherwise. It is a solid product. It will last you a long time if you don't abuse it.
For example -- -I still have the Samsung Blackjack 2 as my backup phone and I use it when my "newer and better" phones give me problems. I've had it for forever. It is still a good phone despite being years old. You have a decent phone now--- we all do, as far as the Infuse is concerned. I haven't heard too many complaints, but only time can tell if that will change. Treat it well and it will remain good to you.
The sg2 looks identical to the infuse(slightly smaller on at&t) , except with a better resolution and much better cpu, so I think the infuse will be obsolete when the sg2 hits the states. Nevertheless, I love my infuse and I think it's one of the best phones out right now.

I'm just asking if you guys think it'll last the above-average Android user the next few years. I know it's already outdated. It was probably outdated before it even came out.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
depends on the user. there isnt much the phone can't do but it depends on samsung releasing updates and on the community to put out quality mods. to be honest with a good rom a droid could still be a viable phone. my friend has a nexus1 and loves it. i actually kinda envy it, i love the screen and media capabilities on samsung phones but as a phone the nexus is perfect and there is no reason it should need to be anything more.
i have a phone lust though. i will likely get the sgsiii or whatever comes after the sgsii long before my contract is up.
The Infuse right now is still the absolute best phone on AT&T.
And will stay that way till the SGS 2 comes out....

Sgs2 and infuse have the same resolution. 480x800 wvga.
I was looking at the specs of Galaxy II and the one thing I won't switch my infuse for is battery. It has 1600mA while Infuse has 1750mA. So when it comes to dual CPU, it should drain battery down pretty bad. I mean why will you ever even use that power on the phone unless you compute rocket science data using it. 4G also has a big mouth for drinking the juice out of your phone.
I'm not trying to say it is horible, it just would be a major concern if I'm a heavy data user.

phones are always out of date typically within 6 months of being released there will be a higher end phone, with few exceptions. (i use to sell phones personally)
anyways, i had a samsung captivate which was the best phone when it came out, currently out of date, but it broke i payed money throuh insurance and luckily they were out so i got an infuse. very happy so far, and i can save my upgrade, im going to wait till i get a high spec (probably htc) lte phone

The phone is already outdated when you bought it, but that is the rule with all tech lol. Will it last 5 years. If you take care of it sure but will it still be getting upgrades. Most likely not sense we are seeing higher and higher system requirements to run the newer updates.
It is confirmed the nexus S will get the ics update, hardware wise there's no reason the infused couldn't handle the update also. It's up to att and Sammy.

I am not saying it couldnt handle it, just saying that after the first OS update I would not look for any others. IF it gets 1 more after that then it will be lucky. As for the Nexus S, I had great hopes for it but then I found the Nexus S was by samsung and thought ok ill wait for the next and not the new prime may be a samsung as well so looks like ill wait till the next nexus is an HTC. But if it is a samsung or HTC as long as the phone is bought through ATT dont expect to get the same number of updates as the Euro versions of the same phone. They always will get more updates then its US counter parts. As always been the case and always will be.
This is why the nexus line is a safe bet typically, as it is 'googles' phone, the updates are fast and frequent. The S is a Sammy, but no need to wait on them making the updates play nice with tw .

I'd really recommend getting the Galaxy SII (not Skyrocket).
Just. Plain. Old. Sexy. Classy. SII.
The Skyrocket has a larger screen (4.5"), but from what I hear, it seems to have a few more issues than the SII original. Regardless, I still hear it's a great phone, but I think as far as getting future updates and Samsung support, original Galaxy SII is the safest bet.
If you really want a huge phone, look at the Galaxy Note.
And... Stay away from the Infuse. It's considered really old and outdated now. Yes, it's still a perfectly usable phone and it performs everyday tasks wonderfully. But when you can get the SII now for $100 or less, I just don't see why you'd want to lock into 2 years with a phone that is already a year old.
Plus, if you're a gamer, you definitely want to go with SII and not the Infuse. The RAM difference makes some games not be "compatible" with the Infuse.
To be honest, stay away from Samsung phones. I have two, a captivate and a infuse. I'm over Samsung because of the way they shelve their phones after a couple of months and all the problems in their software. I bought an Atrix 2 and its the best phone i have ever had. At first i wasnt sure about it because its a moto phone. Now that i have had it awhile i recommend this phone to anyone. Best battery life, 4 gb of space for apps and i got an over the air update on the second day of me having the phone. Its on the list for a ics update too. I have not had one single problem with this phone. Just my opinion but i would not get a samsung.

I guess I'm a Samsung fan boy. I have always had a Samsung, even before smart phones. I had a Captivate which I gave to my wife when I went with an Infuse. Really love the big screen and I would get a Note if I had the money.....Really doesn't matter if AT&t never pushes out any updates, because I am running CM7.
I recommend the Galaxy S II (i777). I like the Infuse and Skyrocket, but the i777 is perfect. I'd also recommend the Skyrocket over the Infuse, purely because of the RAM difference. The Infuse can't be my daily device, because I need more RAM. So, in my opinion . . .
Galaxy S II (i777) > Skyrocket > Infuse
Samsung may have its issues with software, but theres no denying that their products are well made. Almost everything in my house is made by Samsung. They never die.
That aside, what is your budget and requirements? If you have the money and like the size, get a Note. I've heard nothing but good things about it and developers here are already playing with it. There doesn't seem to be any love for the Skyrocket though. If you're strapped for cash, I'd definately look into the Infuse. The price fluctuates from $50 to free sometimes, so you might get a great deal on one. It's one of the best phones I've ever had. All of the software issues have already been resolved by the devs here. While it may be a little dated by 2012 standards, it handles almost everything I throw at it and you just can't brick it. That's something those ****ty HTCs and Motorolas can't claim.

Not bad
The infuse is a nice phone from what I have experienced. Doesn't look like it will get CM9 though so I would avoid it.
The screen is absolutely beautiful despite it's pitiful resolution. The colors are stunning and viewable from all angles making pictures better looking than what you took a picture of! Also sometimes I forget I am reading off of my phone when using google books and think it's my kindle.
RAM is pitiful (512?! Really Samsung??) but the phone operates smoothly despite.
Battery life is better than anything HTC has to offer.
I am personally looking for an Atrix 4g and it's laptop dock. Pretty sweet combo.
I got the skyrocket. Nice phone.

Just bought my Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store, can't say I regret it... just yet. Anyways, who else bit the bullet? The HD screen, plus ICS and pure google made it irresistible...
Nope. Can't afford a new phone and what's the point? I mean yea you get a nicer total hardware and all, but I really only use my phone for web browsing when not at my computer and texting.
I don't feel it would be worth upgrading from a one year old phone for no real upgrades.
You didn't miss out on anything. I did not like the Nexus. My SGS2 blew it away. The pentile screen on the Nexus left much to be desired. No expandable memory, and the touchscreen nav buttons take up screen space, making the useable screen space limited. Returned it.
Getting a G2x tomorrow to use as a daily driver. Will install the latest ICS for it. I look forward to checking out the devs work around here.

Of course the on screen nav keys take up space, that's why the screen size is 4.65"? There's less space wasted into bezel however, and that's appreciated. I definitely agree with the Pentile screen though, can't be that bad though.
Why are you downgrading from a SGS2 to a G2x however?

I really really really hated it. Back of my mind I still hate it. I have small hands and 4.7 screen really is too big. I hate the stock SMS app and replaced it with the CM7 SMS.
Slowly the phone has won me over, mainly because its reliable and doesn't have any crap or surprises. It just works.
I would have kept the G2X as my main but the reliability and GPS really killed it for me. Also, data kept just stopped working sometimes. Stupid little bugs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, I've slowly warmed up to my SGS2 but slowly. I hate that it doesn't have CM7 solid and stable as my G2. TouchWiz does ok. It wins for reliability. I've tried to trade it. But really there isn't any better phones out there on T-Mobile. HTC One doesn't sway me because no memory expansion.
Right now I'm slowly moving all my personal data and info from the CM7 to Stock 2.3.3 on my G2X. Going stock for a while and away from CM7 based ROMS. Its a hate/love relationship on the phone. If it were solid and stable as the G2, I wouldn't have gotten the SGS2.
I think everyone should just be patient, not bite the bullet for the Galaxy Nexus, and wait till June for T-Mobile to put out the S3!
Patience FTW.

True, we won't get it for a while.
And the Note is HUGE. I don't have the pockets for it.

Time to get some big boy pants
I love it too. I use my phone a lot for browsing the web too, and the GN makes it a lot better. Nice screen, and flash doesn't lag on the web unlike on the G2x.
But saying the S2 is better and Nexus is a fail is quite wrong. There's still no official ICS for the TMO S2... And that big screen with such low res looks ugly to me. I'm sure Whitehawkx and Roman left that phone for the Nexus for those same reasons.
But the G2x is awesome in it's own ways. I liked it as much as everyone else here with the G2x.

What ROM you running on your GN King?

True, and a better phone than the T-Mo GS2 would be Sprints or At&t's, as they have the Exynos CPU.
And none yet unfortunately, its arriving tomorrow. Any recommendations?
When the Galaxy Note/SGSIII hits Tmo, and the price is reasonable, I'll prob jump ship...
Maybe jumping ship around Aug... Or maybe if LG gave us a half decent release of ICS, I'll stay. Wub u all <3
Thinking about selling my mt4gs and getting a galaxy nexus. Should I do this?

Na, for the fact that the galaxy nexus dosent have a keyboard. If you don't care much for the keyborad then go for it, there are a ton of roms so you'll never get bored with it. I actually bought the galaxy s2 cause I didn't think id miss the keyboard but 2 weeks later I sold it cause it didn't have a keyboard and now I'm back on my mt4gs

Seriously keep it. All these new MyTouch devices coming out don't even come close to our device. I'm thinking about upgrading in septber but no way I will let go of my MT4gS. We have the best people developing for our device. I don't post much, but you made me . Chances are u could have JB before many other devices just because of beast this phone still is

I have a Galaxy Nexus, and it's great! It's for Verizon tho' (Payment for flashings an Evo 3D to boost). I mainly use it as a Gaming system. It's amazing, the screen size makes up for a lot. I have Parinoid android on it, and SlideMe keyboard. Makes it perfect. Plus! You'll never have to worry about updates, or ROMs. Offical updates from Google are quick, and let's say there isn't a lack of ROMs.

I would go for the Nexus if you like flashing ROMs. The design is also notably superior.
However, the camera pales in comparison to ours, especially in lowlight.
Also, we have a keyboard.

It's not a bad camera. I just think ours is better.
It doesn't sound like you really need the Mytouch 4G Slide, so I would recommend selling and buying if you have your heart set on a Nexus.
I believe I read something about Google releasing new devices around November. Regardless, it might be better to wait for the next Nexus phone.

Awesome! What contest was that???
http://phandroid.com/2012/06/26/contest-google-io-gift-pack-3-worlds-best-android-forums/ This is the contest, it is over now, but I can't believe I won! I never win anything! I have had a really rough last few years, so I think it is about time something good happend to me. In 2005 my son was murdered by his father. My ex-husband was just executed this year for it. A week before he was executed my father passed away, and a few days later my grandmother passed away. Also in 2008 my brother died of an aneurysm right in front of me. Needless to say, I needed something good to happen, and it finally did.

I have both phones in my house. I have a MT4GS picked up off eBay and I bought a Galaxy Nexus for my wife, just so she'd quit complaining about her iPhone 3GS's data issues on T-Mobile.
MT4GS
I want to start by saying that the physical keyboard wasn't a big selling point. I was shopping for a cheap phone with higher end hardware. The MT4GS fit the bill nicely, I have less than $150 in mine.
I still running the stock ROM and I just unlocked my MT4GS yesterday, still in S-ON mode. I am planning to try a couple of ROM soon.
I love the camera app, available memory (especially compared to the Garminfone and MT3GS I've previously owned).
I'm ok with the stock clock widget with integrated weather.
I hate the dialer app, why HTC / T-Mobile decided to switch from offering Favorites to offering Group Texting is beyond me.
Galaxy Nexus
I love the cleanliness of the stock Android experience, but I'm still not thrilled with the dialer app.
I've already added another calendar app to mimic the iPhone's month view with agenda below.
I love that this phone is running 4.1 before most manufacturers have pushed 4.0 to their phones.
I miss the Sense like clocks, I'll probably install Sense Analog Glass Clock at some point...
I worry about the robustness of the design. It's just soo thin and light. Which may be ok in my wife's purse, but my phone is usually in my back pocket.
