It's weird, the Nexus 5 has the choppiest video recording I've seen in a while. It can only do 1080p 20fps, or 720p 22fps looking at the video files. Anyone else having the same problem? Phone likes the iPhone 5S or Note 3 can do 720p 120fps.. this is ridiculously bad.

Android 4.4.1/4.4.2 build improvement?

Yes Google fixed it, I'm seeing about 29fps compared to 20fps before with 4.4.2. They still haven't fixed the audio static bug though.

I recall an online review where the reviewer says that while shooting in low light, the Nexus 5 can only do 20fps on fw 4.4.
Got a chance to verify if Google raised fps in low light too?

Laggy 4k video!!

Has anyone tried playin any 4k video on the N5, as for me its lagging. I used MX player to play the video.
Dont frget to press the THANK button!!!
Where are you finding 4k video for the Nexus 5?

Yeaa 4k video's lag but 2k video playback are just fine

well obviously, the n5 doesnt support it
What exactly is the purpose of playing 4k video on a 1080p display? All you're doing is unnecessarily taxing the processor and battery for literally no improvement in video quality. I don't understand this thread at all.
I m not a 4k fan...i was just checkin out whether 4k works or not!!

Are you kidding? 4K video runs buttery smooth for me with MX Player and HW+ enabled
I've tried not to reply to this thread yet, here I am

Is there anything mainstream that actually is in 4K yet? I know the Note 3 records in 4K, but 99% of people don't have 4K TVs and probably won't for the next few years.
Oh, and playing 4K (or anything higher than 1080p really) on the Nexus 5 is like playing 1080p content on an old CRT TV. It's pointless.

Video Playback?

I understand the Nexus 5 has a very high quality 1080p display. I plan on buying one soon and wanted to know since the quality of the screen is so good if it would affect the quality of playback on lower resolution video.
If someone could test out playback with a 720 x 400 video clip please let me know the results of the clarity of the video. Thanks to anyone who helps!

I didn't test it because it isn't necessary. You said it yourself, it can playback 1080p video, easily. None the less, it'll play lower resolution videos just as great. Resolution playback will be the played in the resolution it was recorded in. So if the video was recorded in 480p, it won't play it in 144p or 720p. Just 480p

So a 480p video scaled to match the full screen of the nexus 5 won't look pixelated or anything? Sorry I am sort of a noob.

It'll look 480p. It won't be crisp and sharp like 1080p but 480p. As for full screen and such, you can control that

[Q] Is Capturing in 60fps worth the trade-offs?

Hey Guys,
I wonder if it is actually worth the trade-offs we get when we capture in anything higher than 1080p30, such as loss of video stabilization, etc? I would like to get the best videos possible while being worth for the trade-offs. Thanks
Hi !
Actually, I use FHD 60fps and it's just the best for me : great details, great colors (even if it's without HDR), and the fluidity is awesome ! The stabilisation is quite good, personnaly I do not see the difference between FHD (with OIS) and FHD 60fps (without it). UHD, QHD ... nothing compete with FHD 60fps When you are accustomed to 60fps, you will never leave it haha

lol, thanks for ur reply. Also, since the S6 has OIS, doesnt that mean it should work in any resolution but when aided with DIS it only works below 60fps? So what I mean is, below 60fps: OIS + DIS, >60fps, OIS only, right?

Not exactly, I think more to a thing like that :
- Below 60fps : OIS + DIS
- 60fps and over : just DIS
I think the only smartphone who capture with OIS over FHD 30fps is the iPhone 6S Plus

I don't quite think so because the ois is a hardware feature so it should always work but with DIS, since it's software (works by cropping) it may not be able to keep up with high res. That's just my opinion, I'm not sure. Will research about it tmw. [emoji106]

It's the opposite, OIS works for an infinite amount of frames as it's a physical gyroscope keeping the camera from shaking and not your CPU doing work to stabilize the video. OIS is just on and there's only 1 app that I know of that you can disable it, somehow.
I switch between 60fps and 30fps w/ ois depending on the situation at hand. If I want to record what ever is view at a steady hand I'll use the ladder.
If I want fluid motion I'll switch to 60fps.

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the OnePlus 5 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
What do you guys say on 4K EIS? For me it's not that good as 1080p30FPS one also did they add EIS to 60FPS 1080p?

But I don't think 60 fps has ever had Image Stabilization. Atleast not on my device, because I remember testing out how good the image stabilization was on 1080p 60fps and thought to myself that it was absolute ****, only to find out later that it had amazing EIS on 1080p 30 fps

Hmm... I just have a hard time seeing why there wouldn't be any EIS on 1080p 60 fps for me then, because clearly it is a software-wise, and i am running the latest update. Could you maybe provide me 3 videos. One from 1080p 30 fps, 1080p 60 fps and 4k? Only if you want to of course.

I will provide it today. I'm curious personally too so I will upload it directly.
i tested it on metal concert, so 2 bugs with one shot. (4K EIS and audio recording)and im satisfied with it
Hey guys!!
This is a video that I recorded this afternoon between OP5 and OP3t.
It shows how wonderful OP5 EIS works after the lastest OTA 4.5.8
Just see and make your own conclusions.

i really love the 1080p 60fps mode. I have tried some video yesterday

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkxyOyK8kqM
I cannot upload 4k video, so it's downscaled
Noise in video even in normal lighting, permanent eis I hate that, they sud add an option to enable or disable it,
60 fps 1080p that's OK, but if hardware support it than they sud try to increase it,
Slow no video in 720p hate it, wish if they enable it for 1080p too, and the more slower video option (higher fPS)
Also manual mode needed for video, at least for focus and exposure.

The only thing keeping me from buying this device: video stabilization

I do think this time Huawei really has a wonderful device: it checks every box I can imagine for a top notch device:
- great screen
- great camera (photo)
- great battery
- nice design
- frontal finger print reader
Everything but video stabilization!!!!! I mean, how, HOW can it be that this great device is not able to stabilize video @1080/60 nor @4K/30?!!??! This is a shame! When I pay almost 900€ for a mobile phone I want to be able to use it completely!!!
Do you think Huawei will change its mind and introduce video stabilization for 1080/60 and 4K/30 like Oneplus did for the 5T???
I do really hope so! Waiting till then to finally buy it!
Hi Aratheba,
The video camera review by SupaSaf on YouTube shows stabilisation at 1080p, not sure if this is 30 or 60fps however !

I can tell you for sure that sadly it's only @1080/30
Yes - Can also confirm the stabilsation is only 1080p at 30fps. This should be more than enough for most users and now that the prices of handheld gimbals have come down that would be another option. I hope they can bring an update to enable at least EIS on 4k or 1080 60fps like how One Plus did.
DJI Osmo Mobile 2 - £120.00
Smooth Q - £99.00
P.S - P.S - Have also preordered the P20 and returned my S9. I only have 1080p TV at home anyway and will get a gimbal for some serious videography

agree this is a real bummer. Fix Huawei
Does it have 3x optical zoom on 1080 60 fps ?
At the end it comes down to priorities between 1080p and 4k.
Everybody will have a different option like me with only 1080p TV in my house and using a smartphone stabiliser for serious 4k recording. 1080p 30fps for everyday videos is enough for me but am also hoping they bring some 1080p 60fps EIS
A new update is coming with the new ISO limit 102500 so praying huawei also stick in some extra stabilsation

I 100% agree with you about stabilization . I just returned my S9 due to its battery issues (due to exynos chipset)
I read about it on YouTube video.
A reviewer recently reviewed the photo and going through the ISO modes it only went up to ISO 3400 and someone confirmed that huawei confirmed that ISO 102500 would be included in a software update.
The reviewers all have pre-production handsets and roughly by tommorrow they should get the final handset from huawei to confirm their final review (embargo lifted

If you use opencamera or ultracorder (hevc) at 3k resolution (3264x1840) then EIS works nicely, looks really smooth. Admitedly it's not 4k, but its still much better than 1080p. I'm currently using ultracorder at 36.7mbit maintier level6.2 with EIS enabled and it really does look nice.

Yes that is correct. I am not on 128 now, I just had it for a short while last week to test out stuff but rolled back to an earlier build now. I am sure there must be some others on 128 though who can answer the shutter speed max.

Yes, thats true., at least on build 128 But the max shutter speed that I've got was 1/[email protected] ISO (strange, it's really very high, but that's what camera reports) If the light is to high, it stays at 1/4 sec, so ISO higher then 6400 is not usable in broad daylight, which is understandable. I yet have to try it at the night
