Hey guys, since rooting my Ultra I have noticed that I have two particular apps force close...one is the Play Store, it just randomly force closes and once it does it won't stop and then I am forced to reboot the phone in order for it to work but surely enough it just randomly happens again.
Also I have a problem with what I believe is the phone app force closing and this too seems to be at random. Both force closes don't seem to have a specific trigger... I'll just unlock the phone and boom FC or I'm browsing the forums and BOOM FC.
All I've done was root the phone, freeze the amazon apps (sometimes I delete them) and then I also remove or freeze all Verizon apps minus My Verizon...ooh and I freeze all the "set up" apps but I am not sure if any of this has to do with the FC's.
I have kind of been curious of maybe when I restore my phone to stock if maybe I'm not using the correct files even though it says they or X1080 obake files...
Could anyone shed some light on my issue here or is anyone else going through this as well? It's very frustrating having these random FC's especially when its the play store!

That error seems to be pertaining to the Download Manager app. Try this;
1. Go to MENU
2. Go to SETTINGS
3. Go to APPS
4. Look for DOWNLOAD MANAGER under ALL
5. Disable it then enable it
6. Clear data and cache

It could all be related to the Download Manager app as is a system service that handles long-running HTTP downloads.

I love my nexus s, but suddenly the OS became very slow and I need help on where to start the trouble shooting.
It is the entire operating system -- even the touch screen.
I will pull down the notifications window and it will get stuck,
The browser select screen will pop up when I click on the "world" icon to open up the internet and after I select browser, there is a long pause before the background color appears (recognizing that I selected which browser) and then there is another long pause after recognizing that I selected it.
I have installed apps from other sources besides the android market.
At first I started thinking that I had too many apps running, so I started using the apps manager to force close the apps, but that did not help.
I tried restarting the phone multiple times with mixed results. Sometimes it would help a little, other times not at all.
I looked at how much room I had left on the internal drive and started moving more to the USB drive -- that didn't help.
I started wondering if I installed too many apps.
Then suddenly, when barely chugging alone to try to update a few apps (literally the install part was lagging -- not the download) I got an error message:
Error: Activity Android System(in process system) is not responding
It's funny -- when I want to replicate the error (as in right before writing this post - I cannot).
Thanks for your help on this matter.
Please instruct me on where to start trouble shooting.

root or no root?
no root. Thanks for fast reply.
my hunch is that an app was screwing something up.
There were a few that I wasn't updating because I didn't like how they started changing permissions. But maybe I should go through and update every app that I can... thoughts?

update is good. there could be an app freaking out holding up the system.
And at the worst case scenario you can do a factory reset (menu, settings, privacy) and see if that fixes it... of course you'll need to re-install your apps afterwards

try updating your apps. a factory reset will help, but that should be your last option. launcher apps replace the stock launcher, the thing you press to open the app drawer and that holds the phone app and such.
My phone was acting all sorts of crazy lately (couldn't connect to the internet amongst other random performance issues) and it turned out to be an app causing the problems. It was actually one of two apps. It was either Tetris or memory trainer. I deleted them right after one another so I'm not sure exactly... Just a heads up to be cautious if you're using these. For the record these apps were from the official Android market.
Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know what to do? For the last hour this notification in my drop down shows "Facebook (build 141046)" but it doesn't appear to actually be downloading and it won't go away. It's not the app installing an update (or doesn't appear to be). I've "force stopped" it and restarted my phone but it comes right back. Very frustrating.

On a Rogers/AT&T S3 with CM10. I'm seeing the same bug. I've tried uninstalling facebook, reboot, and a clear data on the play store. No luck getting it to go away yet.

Try turning on wifi and connect to a wifi spot it worked for me. no idea what it was but its gone now.
Going to copy my message that I just posted over on android central I was headed here to ask if anyone had anymore info.
"I had this issue as well. Turning on wifi seemed to complete the download and I was prompted to install this new build. Apparently one of the new features as shown in the screencaps above is downloading via wifi. But it looks like the with this build the facebook app will be able to download files without any notification. So basically just like this build began without any action on my part in the future the same will happen only I won't even get an notification. I've looked around for a bit more information and haven't come up with anything. This 'update' seems to be standalone from the actual app, no ability to update from the play store and opening the facebook app doesn't trigger the update screen. so i'm declining to install this for now.
one of the tips on the AC forum to get rid of the notification was to hold the notification and press app info and then force stop download manager, the same with simply force stoping the download manager app if you version doesn't allow for the press and hold. The notifcation apparently comes back later.
Also worth noting this is happening on my Galaxy Nexus running on T-mobile

After some mucking around, this appears to have worked (so far). I also did a clear data on the download manager and play store.
I just long press it, app info, and just clear data. That fixed for me.
Thanks for the responses. I was able to connect to wi-fi at Subway during lunch and immediately it went away. As usual, quick responses from XDA folks and problem solved!

Does anyone know what caused this? It freaked me out at first, but I was glad to find others running into the same problem.
I just went to Downloads and deleted the download.

That worked on my stock Incredible 4G. App drawer> Downloads> check the Facebook download and tap the trash can.
Thanks for the info. Worked for me after four hours of "downloading". It was driving me crazy plus it ate up quite a bit of battery.
Thanks

My gut says that this may well be the source of the issue:
seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2020547460_apusnetflixfacebook.html?prmid=4748
Seems weird that it wouldn't simply push as an app update through the Play Store though.

Hey,
Yesterday started noticing issues for my S7, which I've had since launch. Have not rooted it or flashed anything to it, but noticed issues yesterday and still occurring now after trying a few things.
Issues include:
-Opening a folder/pressing multi task button, it will probably auto close in a few seconds.
-Kingdom hearts game is now stutters every few secs, music and video.
-Keyboard vibration isn't quite keeping up to button presses.
-General slowness, drag an icon to uninstall it, doesn't direct to the home screen. Even if it did and you dragged it to uninstall, it didn't on one occasion.
-Playing a video on the Youtube app will eventually cause the video to stop/pause every few seconds
I tried clearing system cache, turning off/on, restarting, using smart manager to clear app caches. None of these have seemingly fixed the issues.
Any suggestions would be welcome and greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I think it is related to latest oculus update. try deleting this app if you have it.
Try to factory reset your phone, but if that doesn't help then I would suggest taking it to the repair shop.

Very good point, I did notice that update yesterday, I'll have to try it later when I get the chance, surprised it can mess with the phone despite not being in VR mode though... Thanks for the suggestion!
As for factory reseting, I'd like that to be the last thing to try, as 1. It's gonna be a pain to restore everything back, and 2. I have my bus ticket on my phone using an app, and I think I may lose it if I do this...

It's because the app is stuck in an install loop, the update never completes
Oculus Rooms is the culprit, kill it until they fix it
No factory reset necessary. Install Package Disabler Pro, disable the following:
- All bloatware (via menu option)
- Facebook App Manager
- Facebook App Installer
- Oculus Home
Reboot, wait 5 minutes, and see how Kingdom Hearts is doing at that point.
Hey guys, recently my phone is acting really weird... Whenever i install a new app from play store, when i try to open it, the app crashes.
If i uninstall it and reinstall from the play store it works just fine.
Any ideas about what could be the issue?

Try clearing play store cache, if it still does it, boot to recovery and clear caches from there

Just to update, I uninstalled all Oculus related stuff and it's all fine again. Thanks a lot!
Only problem will be when I want to use Gear VR again, I presume it will all be installed again, though at this point I don't use it regularly really, so I can leave it for a while.

Just a quick update
When i did that it worked that day. Now i installed a new app and the craching app issue is back :/
I'll try to clear android cache from TWRP and see what happens
So it worked for one app (the one i tried after clearing the cache). Opened the app and no crashing. Later this week i installed a new app and same problem, so i booted to recovery and cleared cache from there. Installed a new app (google weather i think) and the app crashed... Any other thoughts on that subject?
Recently, as I install an app, I'm finding it to take a long time...several minutes.
I just selected Truecaller from the Play Store to install. It's a small app. It moved from the downloading stage to installing, maybe 5 minutes before I started this thread, and is still in installing mode now. Another interesting thing, it does NOT show it installing in the notifications bar.
I've had this happen with other apps as well.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Try clearing cache and data of the play store, in Settings - Apps. Sometimes it just 'hangs'. Canceling and Install again can fix it too.

Thanks. I'll give it a try,
Just like it says. I am having a issues with some apps not saving after I set them. It happens when I shut the app down or reboot and I find that the phone is not doing what I set for the app. I open the app to check the settings and it has all been erased like new. If I keep the app open it runs all the settings correctly and saves them but as soon as I close the app or reboot it some of those apps default like it is a brand new app. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Man I hope someone can help us out with a lil insight. Thanks for the reply. I thought I might have screwed up a few things while setting up this new phone. I am on the latest build stable.
is it the permissions being cleared because its being "Paused". under the app's app info page there is a toggle Unused app settings--> Pause app activity if unused. make sure this is off.

No that doesn't appear to be that either. I checked all the apps that seem to be having this problem. Unfortunately that isn't it either. Thank you for the suggestion! IDK if a reflash without wiping would help?
I have never seen this or experienced it. Have you done "something" different? Tried to root, or install a ROM, or...???? If it keeps happening EVEN to native/default/system apps then I would recommend a factory reset with a low level cache wipe...if it can be done on this phone.

I would go for the reflash, and in the end, go for a clean flash.
I didn't experience this problem, but I did have an issue where every time I set a conversation as a priority, the second I left that screen, it reset back to default. I don't have the issue now, but I've also reflashed since then.
I have fixed it by wiping the affected apps data and then uninstalling them and readding the settings. Thanks guys!
