Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know what to do? For the last hour this notification in my drop down shows "Facebook (build 141046)" but it doesn't appear to actually be downloading and it won't go away. It's not the app installing an update (or doesn't appear to be). I've "force stopped" it and restarted my phone but it comes right back. Very frustrating.

On a Rogers/AT&T S3 with CM10. I'm seeing the same bug. I've tried uninstalling facebook, reboot, and a clear data on the play store. No luck getting it to go away yet.

Try turning on wifi and connect to a wifi spot it worked for me. no idea what it was but its gone now.
Going to copy my message that I just posted over on android central I was headed here to ask if anyone had anymore info.
"I had this issue as well. Turning on wifi seemed to complete the download and I was prompted to install this new build. Apparently one of the new features as shown in the screencaps above is downloading via wifi. But it looks like the with this build the facebook app will be able to download files without any notification. So basically just like this build began without any action on my part in the future the same will happen only I won't even get an notification. I've looked around for a bit more information and haven't come up with anything. This 'update' seems to be standalone from the actual app, no ability to update from the play store and opening the facebook app doesn't trigger the update screen. so i'm declining to install this for now.
one of the tips on the AC forum to get rid of the notification was to hold the notification and press app info and then force stop download manager, the same with simply force stoping the download manager app if you version doesn't allow for the press and hold. The notifcation apparently comes back later.
Also worth noting this is happening on my Galaxy Nexus running on T-mobile

After some mucking around, this appears to have worked (so far). I also did a clear data on the download manager and play store.
I just long press it, app info, and just clear data. That fixed for me.
Thanks for the responses. I was able to connect to wi-fi at Subway during lunch and immediately it went away. As usual, quick responses from XDA folks and problem solved!

Does anyone know what caused this? It freaked me out at first, but I was glad to find others running into the same problem.
I just went to Downloads and deleted the download.

That worked on my stock Incredible 4G. App drawer> Downloads> check the Facebook download and tap the trash can.
Thanks for the info. Worked for me after four hours of "downloading". It was driving me crazy plus it ate up quite a bit of battery.
Thanks

My gut says that this may well be the source of the issue:
seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2020547460_apusnetflixfacebook.html?prmid=4748
Seems weird that it wouldn't simply push as an app update through the Play Store though.

When I type into the search engine on Google.com it hides my typing like as if I were typing a password??? I have tried factory reset, I have tried fixing permissions. It only does it there. I think it might be tied to app Absolute system that I am using to change system fonts.
I am rooted using sense, stock kernel, and radio right now.
Anyone else seen this? Know of a fix?

I am having the same problem. It started this morning. I did some searching on the internet and apparently it's a global issue on Google's side. From what I have read they are aware of the issue and are working on resolving it.
Ah I searched and didn't see anything. But did find it was only on their site but don't know why it wouldn't affect everyone then??? It's weirding me out.

Seems to be working right now...
heres the fix
1 go into google homepage
2 click on settings in the bottom
3 click off on query suggestions
4 save settings
5 add that as home page

mine works great after that
I love my nexus s, but suddenly the OS became very slow and I need help on where to start the trouble shooting.
It is the entire operating system -- even the touch screen.
I will pull down the notifications window and it will get stuck,
The browser select screen will pop up when I click on the "world" icon to open up the internet and after I select browser, there is a long pause before the background color appears (recognizing that I selected which browser) and then there is another long pause after recognizing that I selected it.
I have installed apps from other sources besides the android market.
At first I started thinking that I had too many apps running, so I started using the apps manager to force close the apps, but that did not help.
I tried restarting the phone multiple times with mixed results. Sometimes it would help a little, other times not at all.
I looked at how much room I had left on the internal drive and started moving more to the USB drive -- that didn't help.
I started wondering if I installed too many apps.
Then suddenly, when barely chugging alone to try to update a few apps (literally the install part was lagging -- not the download) I got an error message:
Error: Activity Android System(in process system) is not responding
It's funny -- when I want to replicate the error (as in right before writing this post - I cannot).
Thanks for your help on this matter.
Please instruct me on where to start trouble shooting.

root or no root?
no root. Thanks for fast reply.
my hunch is that an app was screwing something up.
There were a few that I wasn't updating because I didn't like how they started changing permissions. But maybe I should go through and update every app that I can... thoughts?

update is good. there could be an app freaking out holding up the system.
And at the worst case scenario you can do a factory reset (menu, settings, privacy) and see if that fixes it... of course you'll need to re-install your apps afterwards

try updating your apps. a factory reset will help, but that should be your last option. launcher apps replace the stock launcher, the thing you press to open the app drawer and that holds the phone app and such.
My phone was acting all sorts of crazy lately (couldn't connect to the internet amongst other random performance issues) and it turned out to be an app causing the problems. It was actually one of two apps. It was either Tetris or memory trainer. I deleted them right after one another so I'm not sure exactly... Just a heads up to be cautious if you're using these. For the record these apps were from the official Android market.
I'm using Facebook for Android and people that posts pictures in the news feed all I see is an empty box and when I click on it, the picture tries to load and all i see is a black screen. If I go into manage applications and clear data/cache it usually fixes the issue but goes right back the next time I open facebook. Does anyone else experience this or know how to correct this issue?
Not sure what's going on. Mine's working just fine. Always has. The only issue I have is with opening notifications (sometime's requires a double tap or even a triple tap, and I don't get the same notifications as I do on my laptop). But as far as your issue goes, maybe try uninstalling and re-installing it? Could have possibly been a bad download, maybe. I've had that happen before. An app wasn't working right, so I took it off and then put it back on, and it worked fine.

I just noticed that when I go to app settings from my computer I don't see that Facebook for Android is listed in there so maybe the permissions aren't set up correctly? Can someone please verify if the app is listed there or not?
I already tried to uninstall/reinstall no success.
The facebook app for android has always been a FLAMING pile of trash. It has gotten slightly better over the years, but not by much. It's about the only think blackberry has a step up on android with lol. It's always SOMETHING with that app. The latest for me is i will get notifications, but then when i click on the status or whatever that the update happened in, i have to hit refresh to actually get it to show what was posted. GARBAGE.
Yeah, the app its terrible. I've recently learned that deleting a post is possible, but only if you swipe the post left a certain way.
Regardless, I just use dolphin and go to the website directly using desktop UA.
Ever since i posted here about my issues Facebook has been running flawless

Installed JB OTA a day or two ago - since then I've been getting odd errors that display on the screen. Looks almost like adware or something. I have add-ons detector - it's not showing anything. I can't think of any new apps I've installed. When typing text messages using SWYPE in Handcent I got a weird error yesterday, something along the lines of please wait while we get the application ready for you to use (this appeared mid swype) no button to acknowledge or perform any action. About ten seconds later message disappeared and everything seemed normal. I didn't think much of it but it seemed a little like an adware type thing - never seen anything like that on android (complete with spinning circle to indicate "loading/working".) Today, I pull my phone out of my pocket and there's an error displayed - red triangle with a white exclamation point in it, error 1002. There was a close button - I tried to palm swipe to screen capture which unfortunately just clicked the close option. Anyone seen anything like this? It doesn't look like anything native Android. Just a little concerned that I've got something going on virus/adwise. Any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated. All stock except I was rooted prior to OTA - I'm assuming I've lost root at this point but I haven't bothered to investigate or tried to re-root or anything as of yet. Ideas? Thanks in advance!
I think that's the verizon login service or similar. I've seen it popup randomly as well. Mostly when device out of range or all data off. If you're getting with data on try going to my verizon app and make sure you can logon ok and should go away for the most part. Just more bloatware fun I think.

Yeah I think you're right. I have poor reception in my office and I just got two more - error codes 1001 and 1002 both with an 800 number that connects to Verizon so I guess they're legit but annoying. I guess it's time for some tweaking.
Thanks for the help!

Hey guys, since rooting my Ultra I have noticed that I have two particular apps force close...one is the Play Store, it just randomly force closes and once it does it won't stop and then I am forced to reboot the phone in order for it to work but surely enough it just randomly happens again.
Also I have a problem with what I believe is the phone app force closing and this too seems to be at random. Both force closes don't seem to have a specific trigger... I'll just unlock the phone and boom FC or I'm browsing the forums and BOOM FC.
All I've done was root the phone, freeze the amazon apps (sometimes I delete them) and then I also remove or freeze all Verizon apps minus My Verizon...ooh and I freeze all the "set up" apps but I am not sure if any of this has to do with the FC's.
I have kind of been curious of maybe when I restore my phone to stock if maybe I'm not using the correct files even though it says they or X1080 obake files...
Could anyone shed some light on my issue here or is anyone else going through this as well? It's very frustrating having these random FC's especially when its the play store!

That error seems to be pertaining to the Download Manager app. Try this;
1. Go to MENU
2. Go to SETTINGS
3. Go to APPS
4. Look for DOWNLOAD MANAGER under ALL
5. Disable it then enable it
6. Clear data and cache

It could all be related to the Download Manager app as is a system service that handles long-running HTTP downloads.
