Facebook for Android - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm using Facebook for Android and people that posts pictures in the news feed all I see is an empty box and when I click on it, the picture tries to load and all i see is a black screen. If I go into manage applications and clear data/cache it usually fixes the issue but goes right back the next time I open facebook. Does anyone else experience this or know how to correct this issue?

Not sure what's going on. Mine's working just fine. Always has. The only issue I have is with opening notifications (sometime's requires a double tap or even a triple tap, and I don't get the same notifications as I do on my laptop). But as far as your issue goes, maybe try uninstalling and re-installing it? Could have possibly been a bad download, maybe. I've had that happen before. An app wasn't working right, so I took it off and then put it back on, and it worked fine.

I just noticed that when I go to app settings from my computer I don't see that Facebook for Android is listed in there so maybe the permissions aren't set up correctly? Can someone please verify if the app is listed there or not?
I already tried to uninstall/reinstall no success.

The facebook app for android has always been a FLAMING pile of trash. It has gotten slightly better over the years, but not by much. It's about the only think blackberry has a step up on android with lol. It's always SOMETHING with that app. The latest for me is i will get notifications, but then when i click on the status or whatever that the update happened in, i have to hit refresh to actually get it to show what was posted. GARBAGE.

Yeah, the app its terrible. I've recently learned that deleting a post is possible, but only if you swipe the post left a certain way.
Regardless, I just use dolphin and go to the website directly using desktop UA.

Ever since i posted here about my issues Facebook has been running flawless

gps bug?

Dont know if anyone else has noticed this but has happened to me a couple of times now. If I start up an app that uses gps i.e speed test then when I quit out of the app the gps symbol remains in the notification bar flashing. I dont know how to get rid of it and have to reboot my phone. Any ideas guys?
Is it possible that your app is still running in the background even after you quit? Some apps do that.May explain why gps is still running.

Hi. Yeah thats a possibility and have been thinking it through. Take for instance speed test, it has no exit key so you have to quit out of it by either clicking back or home. Maybe that is where the bug lies and its nothing to do with my nexus.
One other question I have if you could help me out is about multitasking. Say if I hit the home button when an app is running it still runs in the background. How long does it do this for with out resorting to using an task killer or similar?
Cheers

This problem is not unique to the Nexus S. I actually haven't seen it on the NS (yet), but I see it routinely on my SGS i9000.
You should be able to easily get rid of it by just turning on and off the GPS with the Power Control Widget. No need to reboot. Turning on and off Location Services in Settings screens for the phone should also do it for you.
Thanks ill try turning it off using the location settings next time it happens. I did try with the widget but when i turned it back on it returned and was still there.

From my VERY limited experience, some apps stop running as soon as you press home screen (e.g. website/forum apps), some you need to specifically exit the app (if there is an exit option), and then there are others that stay running until you force stop it. Seems like it depends on the design (or mis-design) of the app.
You can view what apps are still currently running under Manage Apps. You can also manually stop those processes there if need be.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. I've tried looking under manage apps/running apps before but the task I think the gps bug is coming from is never listed in there. Infact not a great deal gets listed in the standard gingerbread applications settings. Games that I know are still running in the background dont get listed either for some reason.

Always Awake

has anyone else noticed that if you go to the battery usage on the S4G it shows the phone as always awake? check the graph. it's really strange!
perhaps this could be linked to some of our heat/battery issues? the phone is not sleeping correctly?
You have a rogue program that isn't shutting down. Now you need to figure out what it is.
When I had this it was VTOK since that program never shut off.
Go to Settings> Applications> Running Services and look at the times that everything has been running and try to figure out which one doesn't belong
HTC watch can be a culprit too

I practically uninstalled every application that had an associated service, disabled everything from startup that I could find and the issue persists.
The only way I can get it to not be always awake is if I disable data completely... not background data, or autosync, but all data. no 3G, no 4G, no Wifi, nothing.
As soon as wifi comes on, I get a "sync" circle in my status bar (despite the fact that all sync is disabled on my phone), and the problem returns. The only active connections are to Google IPs (as shown by a netstat from the terminal), looks like gtalk/market ports...
I'm stumped.
I'm going to update the market, see if that helps.
EDIT: it didn't.
Just an update:
Downloaded ATK from the market, there seems to be a lot running for a phone I just rebooted.
I killed everything one-by-one, none of them made the sync icon go away.
There was only one that I could not kill... Watch.
... it also has a service that will not die either....
but if it's watch, surely someone else out there has the same issue?
HTC watch was the issue with mine, it took some time until i figured it out

it was. I disabled the account and rebooted a few times.... I'm good now.
very strange. And for some reason, when someone said "watch" I thought of a clock.... ha. that wasn't any help.
No, the video application. turned out to be the culprit. ffs.

Help me fix my wake locks, Please!

Installed Beans 8 recently and Ive been having my phone be awake at precise intervals overnight. it seems like every 15 minutes. Ive checked my settings and cant find anything that I wouldve done to cause it. Ive neverhad this issue. btw, im running KT747 kernel
aynway, I bought and installed betterbattrystats after searching for help. Im at a loss at the moment. The readings are a little too advanced for me. I dont know the difference between a good wake up and a bad one. Are there common causes for this?
Is there a better way to narrow this down? I deleted the apps I dont use hoping that one was rogue and doing this, but I dont think thats it. The only thing I could think of off the top of my head was that I recently upgraded to nova prime and i am using the unread counter that Nova uses. could that be scanning for notifications constantly?
Any help appreciated. I love this ROM. its by far my favorite taht ive flashed so far, i dont want to flash somethign else. Im sure its something I did.
thanks in advance. If its neccesary ill post up my Betterbatterystats tomorrow after I run through a charge cycle during the day tomorrow.
bumping this up for screen shots. I put this down before i went to bed, and checked when i woke up. I set an alarm before going to sleep, thats all i did. i think my phone being awake has to do with the maps app. how can i control this? ive never had this happen before?
GPS has been off and googles location service is all that I keep on. it looks like its updating at regular intervals. is this google now? Its not a huge drain, but its enough that ive noticed it. any help appreciated.
in the meantime, i cleared data/cache, uninstalled and reinstalled maps.
That looks pretty normal. You may want to post the better battery stats info, it may help. Also for location waking your phone up, open maps, go to settings, location settings and disable report location from this device.

I am too lazy to type everything. Download gscript from the play store and create a script that mirrors the picture. Save and run it. Once it completes there will be a txt file on /sdcard so open it up and sift through the entries till you find a line that says Alarm Stats. After that line just see if any entries have a large number beside alarms

Download won't stop

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know what to do? For the last hour this notification in my drop down shows "Facebook (build 141046)" but it doesn't appear to actually be downloading and it won't go away. It's not the app installing an update (or doesn't appear to be). I've "force stopped" it and restarted my phone but it comes right back. Very frustrating.

On a Rogers/AT&T S3 with CM10. I'm seeing the same bug. I've tried uninstalling facebook, reboot, and a clear data on the play store. No luck getting it to go away yet.

Try turning on wifi and connect to a wifi spot it worked for me. no idea what it was but its gone now.
Going to copy my message that I just posted over on android central I was headed here to ask if anyone had anymore info.
"I had this issue as well. Turning on wifi seemed to complete the download and I was prompted to install this new build. Apparently one of the new features as shown in the screencaps above is downloading via wifi. But it looks like the with this build the facebook app will be able to download files without any notification. So basically just like this build began without any action on my part in the future the same will happen only I won't even get an notification. I've looked around for a bit more information and haven't come up with anything. This 'update' seems to be standalone from the actual app, no ability to update from the play store and opening the facebook app doesn't trigger the update screen. so i'm declining to install this for now.
one of the tips on the AC forum to get rid of the notification was to hold the notification and press app info and then force stop download manager, the same with simply force stoping the download manager app if you version doesn't allow for the press and hold. The notifcation apparently comes back later.
Also worth noting this is happening on my Galaxy Nexus running on T-mobile

After some mucking around, this appears to have worked (so far). I also did a clear data on the download manager and play store.
I just long press it, app info, and just clear data. That fixed for me.
Thanks for the responses. I was able to connect to wi-fi at Subway during lunch and immediately it went away. As usual, quick responses from XDA folks and problem solved!

That worked on my stock Incredible 4G. App drawer> Downloads> check the Facebook download and tap the trash can.
Thanks for the info. Worked for me after four hours of "downloading". It was driving me crazy plus it ate up quite a bit of battery.
Thanks

My gut says that this may well be the source of the issue:
seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2020547460_apusnetflixfacebook.html?prmid=4748
Seems weird that it wouldn't simply push as an app update through the Play Store though.

Lag/Stutter on my NEW M8?!?!

i JUST bought this phone yesterday and today is the first day i have actually gotten to use it and start setting it up. Its all stock. the only thing i did was install my general apps that i use all the time, and disabled the useless apps. verizon apps, amazon, some google play apps, etc. nothing major to the phone. whats happening is that when i play a youtube video or play a game, i get like a half second stutter or freeze then it continues normally. this happens on all games.
any ideas what it could be?
Bring that sucker back and get a replacement.
In all seriousness, this really sucks to hear. Have you tried unfreezing all previously frozen apps to see if the issue still persists? Since you haven't modified anything in the phone yet, you could perform a factory reset and see if that helps anything.

This phone should not stutter at all. It should fly through everything. If factory reset doesn't fix it, return it

I know. I was shhocked when I started to notice it. I ONLY noticed it on YouTube vids and games. The the menus there didn't seem to have a hiccup at all. Maybe an app I installed? I'll try unfreezing tho oak what one would cause that.
The other issue I'm having is with my chrome bookmarks. I have 2 folders on my chrome. "Other bookmarks" where All my computer bookmarks r stores and "mobile bookmarks" when nothing is stored. What I'm trying to do is copy say Facebook from other to mobile. But every time I go to do that it moves it from other to mobile and than its no longer on other bookmarks. How can I copy bookmarks over without moving them?

Alright so I unfroze all the apps and rebooted and still same issue. So then I froze everysingld app I could that I downloaded or Google app and tried again and still doing it. So it's not an app. Must be a system setting... And ideas what setting could cause this?

If a factory reset didn't fix it (if you've done one yet), just take it back. No system setting is going to cause intermittent lag. That would be the worst idea for a setting ever... "Check this box to slow down your system at random times."

I have an M8 that at first was super fast pretty much at all times.
I installed Next Launcher on it, and it was still fast, for at least a few weeks I think.
But now I regularly get nasty lag when using that launcher (tapping on home or whatever, even other app's).. lag on the order of even 1-4 seconds before an action takes place… not acceptable at all.
I saw a post somewhere about modifying a build.prop option to "always keep launcher in memory" or something like that. I believe the post said that the launcher may get unloaded from memory at times by Android if other memory intensive app's are running.
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered similar lag from a launcher like Next Launcher… or other lag just appearing over time.
If I do a restart, lag will go away for a bit, but then return… I think it's when the Launcher is loaded, and resident in memory, that lag goes away for a bit.
I didn't want to have to root just to modify build.prop, but I guess I may have to…
Thanks for any ideas…
p.s.
I have the AT&T HTC One M8… but I doubt that would matter for this issue.
[Fixed]
Checking "System persistent" under "Performance Settings" seems to have fixed most lag on Next Launcher for me.
I also checked "Hyper Fluency" which may also help.
Nice that this option was possible so I didn't have to root just to keep the Launcher fluid...

Not necessarily. I've used more than 10 different Android devices, including the HTC One M8, and every one of them stuttered to some degree, usually once every 2 or 3 seconds while watching YouTube or Netflix, playing games, etc. It has nothing to do with network speed or a device defect. But if it's really freezing for half a second, that's a different story.

Yes, it does. You're just not sensitive enough to notice.
I am having similar issue. Got the phone a few weeks ago, and have been getting used to it. First off, the battery life is not what people made it out to be, unless mine is faulty...
Getting to the point though, in the notification bar, if there is more than 2 notifications at the same time, say an email, a chat, and a text, when I unlock the phone, the entire top notification bar "flashes" in a stuttery manner... and until i remove the notifications it continues to do this. I attempted factory reset but had no success.. Any advice?
