Canadian N5 in SG? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Am living in Singapore and plan to order the N5 from my aunt in Canada. Will it be able to be used in Singapore? I'm pretty confused about the band thing - and I'm not going to use LTE since I refuse to recontract (will cut my data from 12gb to 2gb). Read somewhere that only certain "bands" are broadcast by certain phones and networks but not sure what that means wither.

Ignore this... Just saw a similar thread. Couldn't edit b/c it crashes the xda app

Force Roaming

Hi,
Has anyone found a way to force our phones to roam without rooting? I have bad Verizon service at my apartment but good At&t. Thanks in advance.

Or even if rooted?

You do realize that you can't' "roam" from ATT to VZW and vice versa?
ATT uses GSM technology while VZW uses CDMA. ATT has its own SIM card that will not work with VZW and VZW has its own as well.
There is a thread around here about using the VZW SGS3 with international GSM roaming, this requires you to have another cell provider's SIM, so you get a different number. I don't think this would work with ATT as they use different GSM frequencies from the rest of the world.
I don't even think the VZW SGS3 has the correct radio to work with ATT....
I guess I should mention that Altel got bought out by AT&T here and I used to be able roam on their towers using the app Roam Control. But sadly it doesn't work with the S3.

I did find another thread after I responded to you initially: While I am correct about not being able to roam between the 2 networks, you can apparently "switch" to using one or the other... so you would have to swap SIM cards to do this.
Although at the moment, I don't think 3G data is working...

[Q] Can I use my verizon contact phone as a donor for ppc and still us the phone

Hi, I flashed my mom's galaxy s3 to page plus but only 1x data. I have my own galaxy s3 on contact and I was wondering can I use it as the donor and still use it as my phone. Or would it be illegal cloning. I'd like to know as fast as possible. Both phones are verizon.

Ok, I don't think you would be able to. I would get another device to do it. I used the i500.
From what I understand the secret keys are very specific to the device and not general

T-Mobile or Verizon?

I would just like to get some feedback from T-Mobile users if they like the service they get. I'm currently with Verizon and just hate it. My wife and I are still under contract for about another year or so and I'm thinking of just paying the early termination fee and switching. Now I now coverage will vary depending on where you live but just want an overall view on your experiences with T-Mobile. Thanks

Tmobile/Wal-Mart plan for $30/month is amazing.

T-moblie is better than veraizon

Unless you make six figures a year and have money to burn, go with T-Mobile
I left Verizon for TMO about 6 months ago. I'm definitely not Dissatisfied but it's definitely not an easy adjustment from LTE to HSPA+... Outside of the data speeds, I haven't hit a dead spot or dropped a call yet. YMMV.

Of use two I'd have to say T-Mobile FTW
We see you meow on our nexus⁴ can we haz some more?
Well I had verizon and I left them for sprint and it was the best move I ever made.

Verizon reliability and speed are great. But their Bloatware sucks and you can't remove it completely.
Tmo is very reasonable if you live in city. In rural areas you'll have problems. Speed is decent and phones don't have all the security bloatware like Vzw.
If you travel for business use Vzw. If you rarely leave town then its personal choice really

Thanks everyone. I don't travel so I'm probably going to get T-Mobile. I like that its cheaper and they don't lock their phones down. The only decision left to make is should I wait or buy my way out? Guess I'll have to see how much it costs.

Return for a new Maxx?

I have had data available on 4g yet ultra slow download speeds. Phone switches to 3g and it was faster than 4g until I called tech and the reset me on the network. It has been good since.
The other random problems are being connected to service but browser does not respond to touch. Have had to reboot twice for that.
Touch tones on speaker phone are not correct so my pins enter improperly.
Love the phone otherwise.
Should I go grab a new one while I can?

Yes. Mine works perfectly
Taking mine in tomorrow to swap. Hope to get a developers edition but will not sweat it if I can't.
Started doing slow download deal again and when trying to send contact card, force closes.

Here is what I am getting on 3g the higher numbers, and 4g, the one lower number(tough to get it to even connect on 4g).
If it wasn't for having my tonsils cut out yesterday I would have taken it back today. I have two days left to get a new unit.
Looks like my epic connection is not allowing me to attach the speed tests.
3g is 1.48mbps down avg
4g is .11mbps down the only time it would connect.

How would you exchange for that? You pay full retail or have they began subsidizing developer editions
Sent from my XT1080m using xda-developers app.
They just swapped for another consumer edition and go figure, still having the same problem with data. Tech support said go get another phone. Has to be the network though.

One of the tier 2 guys did something to fix my phone, just not sure what. The new phone runs cooler than the first one as well so back to happy camping.
Due to a tonsillectomy I cannot set up voice actions for most likely another week.

I don't even think verizon sells anything but the consumer editions. You have to get the developer editions from Motorola. Right?

[Q] What GSM/HSPA frequencies are supported?

I'll be switching to T-Mobile soon and wanted to use my SCH-I535 as a stopgap until the LG G3 comes out.
What GSM or hspa frequencies are supported?

Read post #3. That's about the most technical info that I recall about specific GSM radios.
That's the best info I've seen. It also confirms my experience on DTAC on the Verizon GS3 in Thailand. They use 1800 GSM & 850/2100 HSPA.
I guess I'll be rough'n it until I find my next phone.

That's great! I've wanted to use my S3 for the next time I travel abroad but I haven't found my way away from the states yet in over a year. Glad I could help out a bit.
