[Q] Camera crash + Battery drain - General Questions and Answers

I am fairly new to android modding so I will provide information to the best of my ability.
Basically my phone crashes or freezes when using the main camera when recording videos for Snapchat or Vine.
The front camera seems to work ok.
Galaxy S2 i9100
SiyahKernel S2-v6.0beta5
cm-10.2-20131028-NIGHTLY
Also on another note battery drain seems quite excessive compared to my previous stock rom.
Thanks

Search for the best battery saving OS

Hi ,
currently I'm running CodenameAndroid 3.3.0 on my Nexus S and everything runs smooth and works perfectly well for me, no doubts. But somehow I constantly get the feeling that the newer our operating system gets our batteries drain faster. Either this or my battery just gets old. However I'm searching for a Rom that has battery saving in main purpose. I dont care about playing games, the operating system or showing off how great my phone is. For this I have my Tablet The best solution for me would be a rom which is very low in batterydrain but as smooth as jellybean (maybe just port the transitions over). I know it might be hard to find something like this but is there any rom which matches my perception? Also a nice look would be cool, too ^^
I'm waiting for your responses!
I think you're looking for SlimBean. I'm on CNA too, the batter life is pretty bad
I tried SlimBean because I used SlimICS before but I miss too many features to change it back. Isn't there something else? Or which OS has the best batterylife in general?
i think gingerbread still has the best battery life.
androxide got me over 4hrs of screen time and a days usage with matrix
the new miui jb is also almost the same
IMO.....ICS's best battery life is on Kangy Ultra Ex 1.3 by DaXmax.
Just as long as u don't use Google talk since that's the ROMs only hiccup.
Then again like most will say.... its all depending on the user so hopefully it will help if u try.
I'm currently using the same developers JB ROM called paranoid Android..... so far it great but again I don't use all the newest features to much yet. I'm working myself slowing into the stuff.
Good luck
Vs Nexus S4G using tapatalk2
There is no ROM with super battery life, some better and some worst, very similar.
Most u can get from nexus s is +4hrs screen on.
And i don't care about those pathetic screen shots with +7hrs of screen on.
Fire up 3g/H stock browser, maps, music etc and we'll find out how good ur battery life is.
MIUI get's me aprox 4 hours and 50 minutes of on screen time. Lots of game playing, instant messaging, syncing, music, and social media (Instagram, twitter, tumblr.) And about 9 hours + when it get's to about 14%
EDIT: This is when using WIFI, not my 3G.

This question will produce every combo under the sun...but in the end no Real answer. Every phone/battery is different and how the person uses their phone. Apps installed, how much you use said apps, are the ram hogs, 2g, 3g, I could go on forever...just like this thread will if not eventually ignored or closed.
Closed, there is no answer to this question, the majority of battery drain will be the screen (depending on brightness) and whatever app you have installed and use.
Generally it's a matter of finding out what works for you.

[q] PACman rom questions

Ok so i have two questions pertaining to PACrom.
For thew first one, is it just me or is the battery life on this rom not that great, i have had mine go from 100% to 76% in less than an hour and my screen on time was less than 15 mins, is there a way to correct this since even greenify or underclocking it doesnt even make a dent in it.
For question two, it might be a little noobish, but i came from sense and personally loved sense but for some reason every sense rom i flashed acted a little laggy and i love the smoothness of CM but i HATE the AOSP camera with a passion, is there any alternative camera apps that are almost or just as good as the sense camera and the panorama camera sense had?
Thank you in advance for helping me.
Is Google Services using a high amount of battery? That was my problem with the battery life in the rom. If so, delete the data for all the Google apps via settings>apps>all.
As for the camera, you can try Camera MX which has live effects like Sense but it runs slow on my phone. You should try out this awesome Sense rom

[Q] Camera recording and battery life on Android 5.1

Hello, so i have my nexus 5 since a little while now, and there is one problem that have always been there : the sound while recording a video.
When recording a video, the sound is AWFUL, probably the worst I've ever heard on a smartphone, seriously. It's like if I was under water or something like that.
That problem ruined some videos that I took with my daughter, videos that I will not be able to shoot again. Precious moments ruined by a ****ty camera. That really makes me upset.
It doesn't matter which android version I'm on, it happens on 4.4.4, 5.0.1, 5.1 (Which I'm currently running)..
Also, the battery is a complete shame after upgrading to android 5.1 .. I used to get 4h30 to 5h SOT, now I'm barely getting 3h to 4h SOT, at the same settings.. (Cataclysm 5.1 + Kernel code_blue r901, CPU governor set at Conservative, min frequency at 600 MHz, max at 1500 MHz).
I don't know what to do anymore as I've tried everything or almost everything to max out the battery and all but in the end I get stupid results as if I were running stock ROM and kernel. I mean, come on, I disabled everything that could eat up battery and underpowered the CPU but I still get stupid battery life. Why ?
I hope you can help me, thanks
For better sound quality I suggest you check out this mod: [MOD] [ROOT] Camcorder Audio Quality Fix with Stereo Recording and Playback Support by chdloc.
The mod is compatible with pretty much any AOSP-based ROM, so I think you should be fine with Cataclysm 5.1.
But since I don't want to be responsable for anything that happens to your phone, especially if it's your daily use phone, I suggest you do a backup.
Check the Aroma installer for easy installation.

Stock android experience on MIUI 6

What should I do in order to get a stock android experience feel on the MIUI 6?
I was thinking about installing the Google Now launcher, any suggestions apart from that?
Also to keep my phone snappy and lag free, what monthly maintenance should I do? I have had horrible experience with my Galaxy Note and do not want to happen that to my Mi4i
Will it be good enough to use it without a screen protector and external cover??

Got my Mi4i today, installed the Google Now launcher and made it default... But this will not change the pull down notification/toggles shade UI or the lockscreen UI... If you want a full level stock lollipop experience, you will have to root it and then modify the ROM/flash a CM ROM, when it becomes available...
If you head over to mi.com India site, you'll get a sim card tray and screen protector from Xiaomi for free on purchase of Mi4i/redmi 2....
Weekly Maintenance: There is nothing as such which u can do apart from keeping it away from bloat wares
Using without Cover & Screen Guard would depend completely on your usage - If you can manage it like that - Go without them. I personally would be using it without any covers and stuff
If you really want a Stock Exp - Flash CM once its ported for Mi4i or any other AOSP Based ROM.
Thanks, but MIUI6 is awesome!
I used to prefer stock android, but MIUI6 just works, it has a solution for almost everything. And it is very very convenient. I am loving the ROM, especially the fusion of the best of android features with the copied elegance of iOS.
Little things like leaving the screen to where the app was last accessed makes a lot of difference.
Battery life is surprisingly awesome.
I got a screen time of 6+ hours after the first recharge, which is mind blowing.
Hope it continues.
Over all the phone is very cool in the hand and smooth in operation
i got 8+ hrs sot on first charge
MIUI 6 is pretty good!

I agree, I was (perhaps still am) a big fan of the stock experience, but the MIUI 6 is so intuitively designed and looks so gorgeous that I have started liking it!

i got a scratch on screen when it was in same pocket where i kept keys. So don't even think of using without tempered glass or screenguard. :crying:
I feel the same, Some how I do not like MIUI, I always like Stock Android experience.
Only way to experience is b installing Google Now Launcher. But this doesn't work quite well on this device. It shows black pages in App drawer and black rectangular boxes on home page...
Maybe need to wait to get this device rooted.....
miui is lagging like hell, its beauty but is lagging very very very much, i hate it
I just thought the same!
My only reason to stay on MIUI is due to its camera. I was thinking somehow remove all the memory hogging MIUI crap except the camera and install some launcher like Nova.
Need some help regarding which files are safe to remove so the phone + camera app works
non expandable storage kills the mobile or else its good

If you want to switch, flash these -
1)Resurrection Remix (ROM)
2)Snapdragon Camera V2 (Keep the camera quality intact)
3)Viper4Android (Fix bad speaker and greatly improve jack audio)
4)Sensei Kernel (no heating issues - EVER, butter smooth performance all around, nearly a 2 day battery life)
With Snapdragon Camera -
Go to settings, change Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness to Level 6(Sharpness Level 2 is horrible)
Keep in mind that these settings can reset themselves after switching between HDR and normal, so check those first.
Enable Wavelet Denoise Mode too!
For Sensei Kernel -
1) Use zzmove governor for the big cores (high power), interactive for the LITTLE cores (low power).
2) Alucard CPU Hotplug - Max cores on screen on - 8, screen off - 2
3) I/O scheduler - zen, set read ahead to 1024kB
Now head over to Configurations in the Settings menu, go to performance tuning and force GPU for 2D rendering. This will affect battery life a little but will eliminate any kind of lag.
This is all I did and I'm very, very satisfied.

Thanks for the reply . I will give RR ROM a try too.
Though I have installed the SD camera on MIUI itself but the quality is not as good as MIUI camera. I have to say though SD camera is the only replacement for custom ROMs

Yeah, that's true. Every other camera lags so much.

Galaxy s7 (Exynos Dual sim - 930fd) root and rom recommendation

I switched from a Lenovo z2 plus to a galaxy s7. The switch has been a mixed bag till now.. i enjoy the camera to the core and the amoled screen..wow.. the main thing that is bugging me is the battery life i does not even last a full day and im not even using it heavily. the z2 plus used to give me a 1.5 days life on medium usage(official lineageos 16).
Could someone point me to the best rom out there(i dont mind the version) in terms of battery life.. i dont mind taking a hit on the performance.
I'm happy with the battery life and the overall experience on unofficial LOS16, but you lose all the stock Samsung apps and camera. The thread seems to be a rather mixed bag of issues and bugs, but it's largely been flawless for me.

is there any rom that allows me to keep the camera performance intact but get battery ?
imo the GCam ports quality is on par with stock, but they're rather unstable and tend to freeze and crash.
Otherwise I haven't used any Samsung based ROMs since Nougat, so I can't say myself which are best for battery.
There are many other ROMs to choose from just check the development section of the Samsung S7 thread.
Sent from Samsung S7 SM-G930W8
Could someone please point me to a custom kernel for exynos dual sim s7 running on stock oreo..
And also how to install that kernel..
