[Q] sdcard became read only - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my friend has a galaxy tab 2 10" and it seems the sdcard became read only when transferring files from the computer through USB. I looked into it, and I can't figure out what's wrong.
Sorry if I'm a little too vague. I've tried the sdcard on computer, and seems to work fine. tablet seems to work fine writing to the sdcard. However, we can't transfer files TO the sdcard through the USB.
Ideas?

[Q] SD card not working after 2.2

Sorry for this thread, Ive managed to get it working now
Ok actually Im still having a problem with this, so heres the story
Figured I'd try here for some help here, I have a Bell SGS Vibrant, got tired of waiting for Froyo so I tried a stable build (think its stable ) anyways everything is great overall except now I cant use my external SD card, it says that its write protected, I know that sometimes cards can do that, but I had an idea and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if I was on the right path
I noticed I had a LOST.DIR and .android_secure folders now on my external SD card, from what Ive read its for Mac I believe.... anyways, I noticed the extensions and was wondering if that was the problem, for example looking at my internal SD card its in /mnt/internal_sd/sd directory, so now looking at my external SD its /mnt/internal_sd/external_sd, is that how it should be layed out? I was wondering if I was having problems due to the external SD card being in the internal SD card directory
Model number GT-I9000
Version 2.2
Baseband version I9000XXJP2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number GT-I9000-eng 2.2 MASTER 332 test-keys.332
Just noticed something new when I try to connect the phone in mass storage mode it still says write protected, but when I have it in Kies mode, Windows has it show up as a phone and I can add or delete files that way
From what I know the Lost.dir folder is for files that get corrupted during transfer. At least on the broken flash I have all incomplete transfers go there.
Also its normal that when viewing the contents of your phone through a file explorer on your device that the external SD is in the /sdcard/external_sd/ folder
Now to your problem...have you tried formatting your card?

Ok so I was on the wrong track then, thanks for the info I appreciate it
Ya I only brought up the LOST.DIR cuz I hadnt seen it before in the file system
I have tried formatting it but Win7 is a POS when it comes to formatting it always fails (plus dunno if a FAT format will work properly with Android?), perhaps Ill try it on my Ubuntu laptop and see if I can do it that way, I dont think its a card issue as I have tried another card with the same result, then again its not like 2 cards cant be corrupted
Ill post back here after trying that
Tried formatting it didnt solve the problem, also tried another card that I know isnt corrupted since it works on my wifes BlackBerry, its the same thing, so this is an OS issue
Done lots of Googling but have come up empty
Anyone have any ideas?

Driving me NUTS! Cant see rom on SD card

Hi All,
I'm not sure if Im overlooking something here, but I'm trying to flash a rom to my G2 phone.
I rooted it and confirmed it and installed Rom manager. I backed up my system. I download the rom to my PC and transferred it to the root of the SD card. But I go looking for it, and its not there.
If I browse my files from the PC as USB storage, its not there though I could see Windows transferring a little over 300Mb. I tried renaming it, setting it up in a different folder, nothing. It wont show up on the SD card. Its an HTC sense .zip file rom.
I'm stumped. I was happy everything was going as it should, then boom, I cant find it on the SD card. I even tried a different SD card.
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Chip
Sorry all, I'm in the wrong forum. Please close this.

Can't copy files

Hi i'm having an issue since long time. I can't copy long files to my n8000 from my laptop and vice versa. if i have downloaded a custom rom and want to put it on my sd card or tablet, it copy the files up to 75 to 80 % after which it stop and my tablet reboot. This occur specially with large files( e.g a rom which is 1gb). Any idea what is the problem.
Nope, have no trouble with big files.
Is your tab rooted with a custom rom already?
Have you tried putting flash files on an sd card then transferring to your tab?
Before flashing though, if you are still stock I'd try to find out where the problem lies, your tab or your laptop as this is not normal. If you can try to transfer from another PC.... That will tell you if there's a problem with your tab or laptop or just the link with your laptop.
Thks for the response. Ya my tab is rooted and using Collective Edition v6 rom. I don't think there is a problem with my laptop as i can transfer larger files to my usb drive and even to my phone htc one x and my ipad. I don't get any problem while transferring large files to those three devices. I will try to see if the usb port have issue with it?

[HELP] Internal SDCARD problem

Guys so I have a problem, I recently shifted from Desire S back to SL and found that the internal sdcard was showing up as 1.52GB instead of the normal 8 gb that i used to see before, while connecting to PC
So i thought about formatting it, connected the phone to PC and started formatting the internal SDcard from windows (not quick format, the thorough, time consuming format), and the phone randomely restarted during the process. Now I cant access the sdcard from phone, pc or recovery :/ What should I do?

Corrupted SD Card Need Help

Okay so I have an OTG adapter.
I try one USB Flash Drive which works fine currently, but my other, the one I had just spent all night uploading files too, comes up as corrupted when I plug it in.
It still works just fine in my computer, no errors found, so I don't know what's wrong.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Without reformatting.
Misleading title - you say corrupted SD card but are talking about using an OTG adapter.
In any case if you're talking about a USB flash drive or a card you're reading via an adapter: If it were me and as you have stated - it works fine on the computer - then I'd copy all the files off to my hard drive using a computer, format the flash drive/card in exFAT format on the computer and then copy the files back onto it using the computer . . and then test it on the device via USB OTG. You could just copy a folder or two onto the reformatted flash drive first just to test to see if things are going to work as expected before going through all of the effort of copying everything.
