Hi All,
I'm not sure if Im overlooking something here, but I'm trying to flash a rom to my G2 phone.
I rooted it and confirmed it and installed Rom manager. I backed up my system. I download the rom to my PC and transferred it to the root of the SD card. But I go looking for it, and its not there.
If I browse my files from the PC as USB storage, its not there though I could see Windows transferring a little over 300Mb. I tried renaming it, setting it up in a different folder, nothing. It wont show up on the SD card. Its an HTC sense .zip file rom.
I'm stumped. I was happy everything was going as it should, then boom, I cant find it on the SD card. I even tried a different SD card.
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Chip

Normally this wouldn't be a problem, as I'm USUALLY good about backing my stuff up but...I hate to say I haven't lately and EVERYTHING is on my SD Card...
Long story short, I just flashed my TP2 back to stock from the SD card. Upon boot-up the phone no longer recognizes the SD. Put it in my computer and it asks me to format. Try my Touch Pro (1) to verify and it can't read it either.
I have a lot of cabs that I didn't get copied to my computer and my only data (contacts, etc) backup on this SD card. Does anyone know what I can do??? I"ve been trying to google it but am getting nowhere....

You need to format
Okay...maybe it's not the stupidest question, but it's gonna be right up there.
I bought an Aria today. Let it be know that I've had HTC phones for 5 years and was very active in Windows Mobile ROM development. I'm not daft. But I feel like I've been dropped into the middle of Bangkok with Android, so please forgive me.
I've rooted and have Clockwork installed. I'm attempting to install ATTN1's Liberated Aria (Eclair) ROM.
And here's the stupid question:
How the FORK do I copy the downloaded ZIP file to my SD card?
I know, I know...it's stupid. But I can't seem to find it anywhere. My phone has USB debugging turned on. It's running in Disk Drive mode. But when I navigate to it, there's no folder for the SD card, no hint of the SD card anywhere. What am I supposed to do? Go buy one of those adapters so I can stick this microSD card into my card reader and THEN copy it?
If anyone feels like convincing me of exactly how idiotic I am, I'm ALL EARS!

So I'm just guessing that this is what you're confused about. I apologize if I'm telling you what you already know.
When you put the phone in disk drive mode, the folder that comes up for the disk drive IS the SD card. Disk drive mode is the same as taking the SD card out and putting it in your computer, just without the hassle. You can't access the internal memory through this method.
I'm no expert either, but doesn't it download to downloads folder in the sdcard. You could use something like astro to check the folders. Or are you trying to copy it from pc? Try downloading on the phone.

Hmmmm... I suppose it would make sense that the drive I see on my laptop as the phone is actually the SD card. And when I went into Recovery to install the ROM, I did see an option to install SDcard/update.zip. However, I don't think that was the ROM because I still got the AT&T animations. So I guess I'm back to square one. I'll attempt to download the file directly on the phone....
Perhaps...just perhaps...I have succeeded! I had to download from the browser on the phone. Copying from my laptop to the SD card did not work. (Or, at least it did not provide me with the option to install the zip file from the SD card until I had downloaded the file directly onto the phone using its browser.)
If you use the option to install update.zip, keep in mind that your rom must actually be named 'update.zip.' Once you put the rom on your SD card, you should have selected the option that allows you to choose the zip file you want to flash. Just for future reference.

Ha Ha! Now you know what it like to be a noob. Sometimes things are so obvious and routine to us that we forget that it can be confusing to others just starting out. You have to be patient and sensitive to peoples questions.
Sorry for this thread, Ive managed to get it working now
Ok actually Im still having a problem with this, so heres the story
Figured I'd try here for some help here, I have a Bell SGS Vibrant, got tired of waiting for Froyo so I tried a stable build (think its stable ) anyways everything is great overall except now I cant use my external SD card, it says that its write protected, I know that sometimes cards can do that, but I had an idea and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if I was on the right path
I noticed I had a LOST.DIR and .android_secure folders now on my external SD card, from what Ive read its for Mac I believe.... anyways, I noticed the extensions and was wondering if that was the problem, for example looking at my internal SD card its in /mnt/internal_sd/sd directory, so now looking at my external SD its /mnt/internal_sd/external_sd, is that how it should be layed out? I was wondering if I was having problems due to the external SD card being in the internal SD card directory
Model number GT-I9000
Version 2.2
Baseband version I9000XXJP2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number GT-I9000-eng 2.2 MASTER 332 test-keys.332
Just noticed something new when I try to connect the phone in mass storage mode it still says write protected, but when I have it in Kies mode, Windows has it show up as a phone and I can add or delete files that way
From what I know the Lost.dir folder is for files that get corrupted during transfer. At least on the broken flash I have all incomplete transfers go there.
Also its normal that when viewing the contents of your phone through a file explorer on your device that the external SD is in the /sdcard/external_sd/ folder
Now to your problem...have you tried formatting your card?

Ok so I was on the wrong track then, thanks for the info I appreciate it
Ya I only brought up the LOST.DIR cuz I hadnt seen it before in the file system
I have tried formatting it but Win7 is a POS when it comes to formatting it always fails (plus dunno if a FAT format will work properly with Android?), perhaps Ill try it on my Ubuntu laptop and see if I can do it that way, I dont think its a card issue as I have tried another card with the same result, then again its not like 2 cards cant be corrupted
Ill post back here after trying that
Tried formatting it didnt solve the problem, also tried another card that I know isnt corrupted since it works on my wifes BlackBerry, its the same thing, so this is an OS issue
Done lots of Googling but have come up empty
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm having the worst time trying to find out how to friggin' backup my phone to my external sd card. For some reason, I can do it to my internal storage, but have no way of getting it backed up to my external SD card. I can see the option to select it, but I can't actually select it. I think I have to create a folder on my external SD card for the root but I just can't figure it out. Does the whole entire SafeStrap file need to be copied over to my SD cars as well with a repeat process of installing it the same way in which I did for the internal storage too?
Have you tried backing it up then manually copy pasting it to your sd card?

I have not, as I assumed that while that might be an option, that if I cannot select the external storage option then something is wrong with SafeStrap. If all I have to do is manually copy it over to my external SD card, and with that done Safestrap can still function OK, then that is what I can do. I thought there was something smaller I might have been missing, so I wanted to make sure it was done accurately. Thanks for the input!
EDIT: My real worry with this, is that if I cannot select external SD storage, then how will I select the files I need to install when flashing ROM? I don't have enough space on my internal storage for the files, and would have to put them onto my external SD card, but if I can't select it then I have no clue how I'll be able to flash the ROM.

I thought I had the same issue and mashed the radio button a bunch of times out of frustration and it eventually worked. It's like the touch isn't as responsive in that area of the screen when in SS.
Well, I got the ROM to work. Since my internal storage is only 5 GB, I couldn't leave both the backup file and the ROM zip files on the same storage device, so I moved the backup manually to my external SD and left the ROM.zip on my internal. I flashed them, got the ROM to work but when I opened it up and booted, as I expected, the phone is like new (nothing installed like I originally had it). Well, I can't restore the backup since it is on my external SD card and since I can't still select that option under SafeStrap, I'm kind of in a pickle here. As well, I my computer couldn't recognize my phone either when on the new CM10 ROM. I'm just going ROM this weekend. If any of you have any clue how to get my computer to recognize my phone when booted on the CM10 ROM, or know how to get SafeStrap to allow me to select my external SD card for storage etc I would much appreciate it!!
For some reason my phone is reading my SD card and realizing its there but I cant access it. When I try to access it in recovery, it shows as if its empty. When I try to look for it with root explorer, its not there. But when I connect my phone to the computer, the SD card shows up with everything I have in it. This started happening after I made a transfer from my windows 8 computer to my phones SD card. It would not let me so I had to go into the files properties and unlock the file before transfer. Dont know if that has anything to do with it.
Please delete thread. I just reformatted my SD card and it solved the problem. Don't know what caused the issue though.
