So I finally finished DIY building my very own GameHanger (trademarked, by me ) for my Samsung Galaxy S3. It consists of:
An original Xbox controller, with xbox cable replaced with a very short USB connector
A rubber/plastic-coated coat hanger
A USB-OTG cable
Two nuts and bolts to hold the two together
It works great! Super easy to get my phone in and out, yet it can hold my phone while held upside down. And man, it's a blast playing on this thing. It's so much more fun playing shooters with a proper analog stick controller (even if it is the crappy old original Xbox controller that makes my right hand cramp up). I swear it feels like cheating when I play online shooters like SG: Deadzone. I feel like I have the graphics power of an Xbox 360 in my pocket. Some of these games look just as good, if not better, than games on the 360 on an HDTV. And they're both at 720p!

So far, the gamepad-supported games I'm loving on my S3 are Dead Trigger, Dead Trigger 2, SG: Deadzone, and the SuperGNES snes emulator. These games support gamepads out of the box, with a dialog to map each individual axis and button.
I've also tried NOVA 3, but the framerate was pretty crappy on my S3. Seems like a bleeding edge 2012 phone just isn't up to the task to play a 2012 game. (and if anyone knows how to measure framerate in game like FRAPS, let me know!)
So please recommend me some more gamepad-supported games! Whether they are first person shooters or platformers or whatever, I just want to get the most out of my new GameHanger! But I'm not going to try and use a touch screen emulator IME on a non-gamepad-supported game.
Thanks!

do you mean for the phone? if yes then XII zeal, fire power on rush, sky force, angel fish,C2 matrix firehawk are all good ! i use to have a snes emulator on my trinity with r-type, space mega force and many others. my diamond doesnt have a decent dpad any more! alas!
if your talkig on the PC then again a snes or neo geo emulator are your best options games like UN squadron, zed blades, gradius, rtype 1 2 and 3, popn twinbee, skyblazer, shootmacross, strike gunner, thunder spirit are just a few
the best type games if you ask me ! shoot em' ups, that is!
Yes, games for the phone. That type are my favourite games as well . I will try the first 2 games you suggested. The others I have tried already and they are awesome!
Cheers
If you haven't yet played Xtrakt on your Xperia X1 then you definitely should.
Thanks for the input. I have it installed since it came out, but I'm not looking for that type of games.
The only games I'm looking for are the ones described in the OP - arcade shooters similar to Galaga/Galaxian.
Another new XPO game

Description
Here is the new generation. More beautiful than ever. It is a bit heavier too... if it gets too slow remember to set less details in the options menu. Also, since I create the game alone be patient and report any bugs. They will be fixed as soon as possible. Please visit the OPTIONS MENU. There you will find many setting that might improve your experience with the game.
Compatible with the MOGA controller.
Tiny Little Racing 2 is now MOGA Enhanced! Available at major retailers, carrier stores and online at http://www.MOGAanywhere.com
TLR2 is also compatible with PS3 controllers and other generic controllers that use the default button mappings.
TLR 2 is now free! The game includes career mode, quick races, cups and LAN multiplayer
This version has 22 tracks and 12 cars. Everything can be unlocked by playing career mode.
If you really like the game, remember to help me by spending some money in the store. Thanks and have fun!

I think that any game supports MOGA controller, it also supports Xperia Play gamepad.
So I just got FFXIV today(MMO) and I was thinking, this would be a great way to control an MMO like this!
(Basically I'm stealing some of the concepts used when they made the wii-u screen controller.)
FFXIV was designed with controllers in mind (like a xbox controller), but we can do better then that cause our controller has a screen on it!
►We could develop a general app that allows the Shield to interface with a PC as a HID/Game controller.
◘Then we add touch screen support that allowing people to put touch screen hot keys on it (1,2,3, f1,f2,f3, etc).
◘We could add custom button mapping profiles for each game, example: we have a standard MMO game interface like say from Guild Wars2, we could have all our skill/attack/spell keys binds on the screen of the shield.
►Next step, we could try to stream isolated video to the shield. We could have it so we could control and display specific things in a game like menus(item inventory, quest logs, maps) whilst using our main pc monitor for the action portion of play.(kinda like a second monitor that would act as an extended HUD screen)
•In other types of games this could be interesting to have the Shield's screen display things from games like(racing: track, speedo, tac, radio) (RPG's(like fallout) pipboy screen) (flight sim: gauges, altimeter, etc)
There are already apps that let you use an android device as a simple game controller using the touch screen as a game pad, so it seems pretty possible to develop this concept into the shield whilst taking advantage of both the shields physical buttons and touch screen at the same time.
Thoughts, comments? (who want's to setup a kickstarter? lol)

So with a 14 year old in the house I decided to look into Virtual Reality headsets. I got my hands on a VR BOX which can be found on Amazon in various versions from $9 to $30. These are by Marsboy and there OEM link is http://www.marsboyglobal.com/marsboy-3d-vr-virtual-reality-headset-p14.html

These seemed inexpensive enough to give them a shot. First problem I encountered was the bar code provided for the VR Box app gave me a 404 error for the Android version. So I got the app off of Play but that was not an English version. After a little research I found I did not need the app. It is simple enough to use. There is a plate that you clip your phone into:
Here I found a few other problems. Phones must be removed from cases to fit properly and curved phones like LG G3, G4 or G5 don't really fit well. Large phones like my Nexus 6P are also a little tough to fit. I got my 6P in there which stretched the clip to its limits. Now without a trigger button which can be found on Google Cardboard, you are a bit limited in the games you can choose. This company has a joystick controller sold separately. But I did find this Zombie killing game, a real life type Pacman game where you are Pacman running through the maze and a few others that are a lot of fun to play. The disadvantage to some games is you have to slide the phone cartridge out to start some games and choose options.
Here is the 14 year old playing the zombie killing game:
Amazing he didn't make himself dizzy...LOL.
Overall a solid product. I would like to try the joystick accessory sometime soon. The white panel in front is removable to allow more use for rear camera of the cell phone...perhaps to hunt Pokemon? :silly:
What VR headsets have you all tried?
Hi everyone,
Ball Evaders is a retro game which takes you back to the early console games.
Relive the time of your childhood when you played games on your first console or in the arcade!
Enjoy the retro feel but with updated graphics, to enjoy the game even more visually.
Your goal is to evade the falling balls. Watch out, because each ball may have different qualities.
To help you in your quest, you can collect power ups for a shield or beam.
The shield protects your space ship from any damage.
The beam allows you to blast the balls away from your ship in different directions.
However, the time you can use these tools is limited!
You can adjust the controls to your preference .
Though best played with music, you have the option to turn the music off.
Remember, at all times, your main goal is to...evade those balls!!!
