I was hoping it would drop on a Saturday so I could get some popcorn and watch all of the, "Wah...wah...it installed on it's own...wha...wha....!" threads.

What will 4.3 add to or fix or make better in our S4's still running stock 4.2.2 TW ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app

Trim support and low battery consuming location track? I don't really see any difference between GS4 TW and Note3 TW.

Hopefully we can get out of the MF3 rut with the new 4.3 update

Can't wait for the 4.3 update! Just a couple more weeks. Was going to update the leaked version but don't feel like setting everything up again.

How do those of us rooted on ATT MF3 stock 4.2.2 get the official ATT 4.3 update next month ? We can't flash ROM's like the rest of the world can Well we have Safestrap, but that's just a bandaid, and can't do 4.3 ROM's anyways. I am rooted on stock. How would I get the 4.3 update next month ?
I am hoping with the official ATT 4.3 update, maybe come with new firmware, it may allow us to get true recovery ? Or am I just dreaming ?

I'd say you were dreaming.
As far as getting the update goes, just remove safestrap and unroot. A search should help you find out how. Good luck.

Well will the official ATT 4.3 update, maybe help Safestrap, to finally allow 4.3 ROM's to work ?
Just blows that ATT is doing this crap. I updated my Wife and I phones, both got brand new S4's for $99 ea. plus credit by exchanging in our old HTC phones, so at the end of the day 2 brand new S4's on contract only cost us $50 out the door total.
Just blows they come with MF3 by default.

I hear ya. I got my S4 in September and of course it was pre-loaded with MF3. I'm contemplating giving it to my wife as an upgrade to her Skyrocket and get the Nexus 5. I probably should have waited for it looking back. I honestly didn't think the bootloader would be nearly impossible to unlock.

Is there any hope in the future of unlocking our phones ? Will a future firmware update have an exploit to be found, and allow Recovery ? Or are S4's with MF3 permanently locked down tight forever ?
Thing is I do like this S4 a lot. I am just rooted only on stock 4.2.2, to remove the bloat and crap apps, plus to install Greenify, Droidwall, AdAway, etc...phone is fast with great battery life now, and good size and looks great in my Neo Hybrid case.
Just wish we could freely ROM this phone with CWM Recovery, like the good old days of earlier Samsung phones.

As long as you didn't freeze the att update in the app manager you will receive the update no matter rooted or not. Your just dreaming for right now until the official release is out it'll take several months before someone finds and exploit.

You should go return them and ask them to see tue box first and you want the ones with MDL if they still have it.

This should also enable Galaxy Gear for use with the S4.

From my experience with the MF3 update, if you have root and have modified your system it will fail a file check and won't update immediately.
For MF3 users with Safestrap and root, this will probably end up being just as locked as MF3 was if not more. If anyone really wants to take the OTA then Safestrap could be used to flash the neutered MF3 zip to restore system to original and keep data, and then run the update.
If by chance root is found for MJ6 and Safestrap is updated to be compatible, we'd then be stuck on TW 4.3 ROMS instead of TW 4.2.2. That's the only option to run any 4.3 until a kexec exploit is found for Safestrap, and I don't know how hard that is to do, much less to load an AOSP kernel over TW, and much much less to load any 4.3 kernel over a 4.2.2 one.
Right now the best bet for MF3 users is to stay on MF3 and wait for either a neutered update that would work in the stock slot, so we could move between MF3 and MJ6 and run either at our discretion (this requires root to be found, Safestrap to be updated, and hope that the current bootloader will take it just fine) or wait for kexec or something else to free us.

I know way off topic, but I hope when ATT releases the S5 early Spring next year, it doesn't ship with a MF3 style locked down system ?
When ATT first released the S4, this year, how easy and fast was root and recovery working ?
And how long has MF3 been out ?
I just got my S4 ten days ago, might as well try and check at Best Buy if they have the 'MDL' version still in stock ?

Good for Enterprise on 11/15 JB Leak?

Hey guys-
I use Good for Enterprise on my gs3, currently running stock ICS. I want to flash the new stock rooted JB leak (11/15 kernel) but since Good is not officially supported on JB with this device, my supervisor is telling me not to do it since it could cause the app to not work right. I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader just itching to flash this...
Getting new PINs for the app are not an issue, since I am one of the Good admins in my company.
Anyone know if it is ok for me to do this? I think he is being ridiculous about this, considering we know it has gs3 support and JB support. Sprint has has JB for weeks already!
Doesn't this app check for root? The company I work for uses Good and a buddy had a S3 rooted (Sprint) and the admins said he couldn't use it because he was rooted. If you put on a stock not rooted image then I would think it would work unless JB gives it problems.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Try it. Make sure you do a nandroid backup first. If you run into a problem you can just revert back to what you were using before you flashed and pick up like you never wiped all data apps and info are restored.

I have been rooted for a few months now, and have not come across an issue... I have read that it checks for root also, but maybe the way my company configured it, it doesn't matter?
I am the guy in my office that configures the PINs and i can see device status for everything, and mine seems normal.
Go ahead and give it a try if your comfortable doing it like the above post has, make a nandroid and go at it!

Your employer can choose whether to allow Good on a rooted device. Mine allows it, and Good works fine on my GS3 with the first JB release.. Except for the "secure browser".. Apparently that does not support JB yet.

Awesome even though I have an S4 Hopefully we get it soon. I think there are more s4 devices in the world than s3 so we should get it first! Can't complain though because owners of the S3 have been unlucky with updates in the past.

Wait a minute why would the update only be 21mb? There is no way a whole new android version update would be that small.

One S will get Sense 5 with 4.2.2 around July according to HTC and this is the last major update.
One and a quarter years is longer than I expected from them to be honest. At least Google are releasing a new... Thing soon for manufacturers that makes updating Android versions a lot easier. Hopefully means on my future upgrades, which will most likely be the M7, updates should be pushed out within a couple of months. It's no good that only around 10% of all Android devices at the moment are on Jelly Bean, and that's been available for almost a year now.

One S won't get Android 5.0 because the OS will need to rewrite from scratch but 5.0 is delayed to next year probably and Google will release 4.3 first. So, we might have chance to have a 4.3 port as well....

Well I meant a release past 4.2.2 from Google would be nice, even if it were a port. But in either case, I'm glad that we're getting that far for sure because of all the updates and attention HTC has been giving its flagship phones.

I am glad I didn't participate in this soak nor get the update. It's causing a lot of problems.
Honestly I think what we have here is possibly an influx of users coming from devices like the galaxy nexus that were easier to modify. Lots of one click tools. This whole rock my moto thing for rooting 4.2.2 looked intimidating. Glad I was able to keep root with pwnmymoto.
I do think it's kinda funny. I had jelly bean and Google now since August 2012. Everyone of my friends this spring kept trying to show me the new features. I'm like Ahh they're not new! Alas my payback has arrived. My ppl with gs4s are all like kit kat neener neener. Least I can be all like verizon grandfathered unlimited data neener neener!
I wonder if the day will come when sbfs can be released earlier and more available?
How are these people who manually updated and bricked their phones getting replacements? Must be bc of the non rooted folks who bricked just by simply updating. Either way I'm glad it's covered.

If you're attempting to flash the update manually you must do so twice. The first pass will update the bootloader and recovery perhaps a couple other smaller things. Regardless the main update is the second pass through. If you haven't applied the update twice from your SD Memory you can likely repair it yourself. Worst case just run the 4.4 sbf...

Yes, if you took the 4.3 OTA and try to flash an older stock build, you will brick your phone. As it stands right now, if you took the OTA you can root it, but you are still stuck on that stock ROM.
What would happen if we managed to flash a stock ROM like 4.4.x? I've seen so much talk about going backwards, they've locked us out of going backwards so let's go forward...maybe.

As of right now if you took the OTA update to Android 4.3 your hopes of doing anything custom other than rooting your phone are hopeless.
In order to flash a ROM such as Android 4.4.X aka KitKat you need a custom recovery manager. To be able to flash anything the first thing you need is an unlocked bootloader. The OTA update has locked the bootloader down so that you if you were to try and install CWM or TWRP recovery as soon as you boot into recovery mode you are going to get a Yellow Triangle that says "Verizon has detected unauthorized software on this phone, please turn off your phone and take it in to your nearest Verizon Store.
If you turn off your phone and power it back on you will keep getting that message...
The only way around it is to boot into Download Mode -> Vol Down + HOME for 2 Seconds then hit Power (if i remember correctly). After you boot into download mode you can then boot your phone back up regularly.
If you have made the mistake of trying to put a custom recovery on your phone you can put the stock recovery back on your SGS3 (stock recovery is better than no recovery) by downloading the recovery image and overwriting your custom recovery with the command "dd" in Android Terminal Emulator. For this to work you must be rooted.
Here is a link to the tutorial which shows you how to write the stock bootloader and stock recovery back to your Verizon (d2vzw) SGS3 in case you have made this mistake...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
In that thread pay close attention to the 2nd post as it shows you the commands to use to write your stock recovery or stock bootloader back to your phone.
I know it sucks that we can't put custom ROM's or a custom recovery (this hurts the most!) on our Verizon phone for now at least...
COME ON VERIZON EMPLOYEES! LEAK THE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! WE WONT TELL!
Maybe we will get lucky and some international version will come out and we can use that...
I remember awhile back that ASUS locked their bootloader on their Transformer tablet and you could request it from ASUS and they made you fill out this form saying that you understood by unlocking your bootloader you could not make a claim for a warranty. Why can't Verizon do that!?
I pray someone works this out eventually...

That would still require you to have a custom recovery. Also that would still most likely brick your phone cause the only 4.4 ROMS are AOSP based, meaning it installs a different kernel than the stock one. Thus when when the phone would boot up it would check the the kernels signature and would brick upon not finding one.
So I guess all hopes of finding a way around this are hopeless...for now. If u remember, a few months ago, President Obama signed a bill for Verizon Wireless to monitor all cell phone activity without the consent of the user, in conjunction with the NSA. I suspect that this is the reason why only Verizon has opted to completely lock down the bootloader because it contains code embedded in the bootloader (or partitions pertaining to bootloaders, aboot, and such) that allow National Security Agencies to implement spyware and tracking or listening programs. This is a testament to the sub-communist movement that is slowly taking hold in this so-called "free" society that was brought forth by our forefathers.
But back on subject - I just upgraded from a HTC Thunderbolt to SGS3 because most development for the Thunderbolt was few and far between. Upon purchasing my shiny new device, this Abomination of Android that is 4.3 was already being OTA'd. Had I known then....man, had I known then. It's a sad time for superusers all-over Verizon's crummy wireless empire.

Is there anyway you could post the link for the safe strap recovery option? I am rooted on 4.3 but I want a recovery that may work so that if this thing gets cracked be that much closer to freedom.
Verizon is doing us like Andy Dufrane...locks us down forcing us to tunnel a hole in the wall and crawl through 3 football fields sh!t to free!

Safestrap is not available for the s3. It would have to be ported.

You might still be in your window to return the device. Don't they give you like 30 days to try it out and if you don't like you can return for free and try another?

They do have safestrap for i535 for people who have the 4.3 OTA update. I have been looking for a TouchWiz based 4.3 rom to flash in safestrap but have not been successfull. I would love to find one.
I've looking for one and I bricked my phone twice. It looks likes it's going to be a min before we see one.

And most of them say specifically that they are for unlocked bootloaders or not compatible with safestrap. Is there some trick I need to know to flash these roms in safestrap on 4.3 with a locked bootloader?

S3 Options w/ unlocked bootloadert

I need some help here, I have an unlocked bootloader S3 with CleamRom 8. It's been sitting around unused for many months. I gave my S5 to my uncle in exchange for his upgrade and ordered a Note 4. In the meantime, now I am using this S3 again. I almost don't care about root anymore, can I just flash the 4.4.2 tar and have Kit Kat? If anyone ever uses this again after me, it would be someone in my family that busted their phone. I am guessing stock kit kat is far more stable than these AOSP roms. I have been out of the S3 game for atleast a year. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If you want to keep your bootloader unlocked, you need to flash a modified version of the stock firmware so your bootloader does not re-lock. I am using the official cyanogenmod rom and I have been for months. So far so good. No glitches or jumps or jitters.
