Good for Enterprise on 11/15 JB Leak? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys-
I use Good for Enterprise on my gs3, currently running stock ICS. I want to flash the new stock rooted JB leak (11/15 kernel) but since Good is not officially supported on JB with this device, my supervisor is telling me not to do it since it could cause the app to not work right. I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader just itching to flash this...
Getting new PINs for the app are not an issue, since I am one of the Good admins in my company.
Anyone know if it is ok for me to do this? I think he is being ridiculous about this, considering we know it has gs3 support and JB support. Sprint has has JB for weeks already!

Doesn't this app check for root? The company I work for uses Good and a buddy had a S3 rooted (Sprint) and the admins said he couldn't use it because he was rooted. If you put on a stock not rooted image then I would think it would work unless JB gives it problems.

Try it. Make sure you do a nandroid backup first. If you run into a problem you can just revert back to what you were using before you flashed and pick up like you never wiped all data apps and info are restored.

I have been rooted for a few months now, and have not come across an issue... I have read that it checks for root also, but maybe the way my company configured it, it doesn't matter?
I am the guy in my office that configures the PINs and i can see device status for everything, and mine seems normal.

Go ahead and give it a try if your comfortable doing it like the above post has, make a nandroid and go at it!

I don't really know what this means but if it means a future employer of mine doesn't notice I'm rooted, thanks for asking this question.

Your employer can choose whether to allow Good on a rooted device. Mine allows it, and Good works fine on my GS3 with the first JB release.. Except for the "secure browser".. Apparently that does not support JB yet.

Noob Verizon Question

Ok, so I'm not a dev and I don't get most of the terms being thrown around here (although I think I've actually picked up a decent amount). Basically, what I'd like to do with my phone is to root and then upgrade to JB as soon as possible (and to Key Lime Pie as soon as possible once it comes out too). With how the bootloader stuff stands right now, will I be able to do that safely once ROMs start coming out or would I have to wait for Verizon's OTA's?
Which phone would that be, sgs3? The bootloader is encrypted but I believe you can flash roms with stock kernels as its been rooted. But there are several threads explaining the options... Get a gnex!

Yeah I was leaning towards the GNex but if I can get custom roms on an S3 then why not get that (as long as I'm ok with stock kernels)?
Yeh that's what I'm not sure of...especially with this 'developer' sgs3 from Samsung. I have given up on skins from oems who won't give into Verizon's ridiculous demands. I'd be very cautious attempting to flash anything yet as its very new.

New build/baseband number for the VZW S3

I had my S3 replaced today becuase the power/lock button broke. When the vzw rep. brought out my replacement device it had a sticker on the phone that said updated. After activating and checking the building number I can confirm that VZW is updating their stock to a newer version. My current build number is I535VRALG1 and baseband is I535VRLG1. Does any one know if I can flash the previous version in Odin. I am afraid that they might have done this to block our current root method. This is the first I have heard about this current build.
Wanna help us out on IRC?
We need to see if you can root and what your system dump looks like.
any idea on what the update is?
I am heading to school right now and I do not get out until 11 o'clock eastern time. When I get home tonight I'll join the irc if somebody can be kind enough to let me know what channel it is.
Edit:
I see the channels in LLstarks sig I will join in tonight when I get back from school

How would we update this then? Stock recovery? Shouldn't make a difference if we've overwritten the recovery.img, since the only thing that seems checked is that the boot.img is signed.

Radios are unknown at the moment (most likely can flash update no problem, not sure about flashing downgrade). However boot animations ARE part of the rom, just FYI. Also kernels are flashable as well, just has to be done through a workaround method.
It probably takes away the search the whole phone function of S-Voice and some other small updates.

Ahh, touche. I was under the impression that flashing kernels was a proof of concept still not a done deal. Also, I wrote boot animation but was thinking splash screen regardless you are right.
Was just about to post the same thing actually. I just had my phone exchanged today and got the UPDATED sticker on it. Haven't tried to root it yet, though. Was going to wait a while to see if this topic came up/new update gets rooted. I really don't want to mess with it either. Just popped in to say that I got the same updated phone.
My co-worker received his phone yesterday and wanted me to root it for him, but it showed "updated" as well - new build/baseband number. To be safe I decided to hold off on rooting till we get some sort of confirmation.

Well I was going to flash the rooted image last night but fell asleep while waiting for my phone to charge. I get home a little earlier tonight so I will try flashing and see what happens. According to invisiblek I should be able to just factory reset if flashing in Odin fails. I just don't wanna Bork my phone. I also want root though....lol

[Q] Restoring to stock

Hello there! I had seen this guide here on XDA and was wondering if it were possible to restore to stock even if I had updated to .30 and then flashed this. Would it be easier to simply place the update file on the root and use the manual install method since this is basically stock with slight mods? I am using TWRP btw, and I wanted to know if this would work. With the JB update coming in a few days I really would like to prepare. And this seems to be the best way (via OTA) no? Thanks!
Your already unlocked. You won't be able to receive ota firmware updates. Best thing to do is wait for the devs to bring it to the unlocked community. They are pretty speedy about it you won't be waiting long.

I'll add to that...they are ready to pounce on the tf700-specific files and what we'll get out of it will far surpass the OTA. At least this has been my experience so far.

Take VRBMF1 Update Before Rooting

I haven't been prompted to update to VRBMF1 yet and haven't manually updated. I am still on VRBMB1. Ready to try Beans' one click root method but not sure whether to take the update first or not. Anyone have any suggestions?
Pretty sure it'll work, it doesn't really matter if you're going to end up flashing a custom rom; but it's all preference maybe if you want the new modems just take the update.

Just root. The newest update had signal and battery issues, along with many other issues. Verizon even pulled the OTA. Flashing a newer ROM will give you the newer features anyways, and it will be better.

It was incredibly easy. Only thing that tripped me up at first was that I didn't have the Samsung drivers installed on my PC. Since the thread didn't mention installing them I was assuming they weren't needed. You can get them here. Once I installed them and went through the steps in the thread, I was rooted and unlocked in a few seconds.
I highly recommend LiquidSmooth v2.7 if you'd like to get rid of TouchWiz.

What method do you use to root? I'm on the VRBMF1 build already, on Verizon. I have the S3 toolkit from mskip, but it says it can't do anything until I get the bootloader unlocked. Now I can't find any method to unlock the bootloader for this build. I feel I'm just missing something stupid, but I can't find it :crying:

Yes, if you took the 4.3 OTA and try to flash an older stock build, you will brick your phone. As it stands right now, if you took the OTA you can root it, but you are still stuck on that stock ROM.
What would happen if we managed to flash a stock ROM like 4.4.x? I've seen so much talk about going backwards, they've locked us out of going backwards so let's go forward...maybe.

As of right now if you took the OTA update to Android 4.3 your hopes of doing anything custom other than rooting your phone are hopeless.
In order to flash a ROM such as Android 4.4.X aka KitKat you need a custom recovery manager. To be able to flash anything the first thing you need is an unlocked bootloader. The OTA update has locked the bootloader down so that you if you were to try and install CWM or TWRP recovery as soon as you boot into recovery mode you are going to get a Yellow Triangle that says "Verizon has detected unauthorized software on this phone, please turn off your phone and take it in to your nearest Verizon Store.
If you turn off your phone and power it back on you will keep getting that message...
The only way around it is to boot into Download Mode -> Vol Down + HOME for 2 Seconds then hit Power (if i remember correctly). After you boot into download mode you can then boot your phone back up regularly.
If you have made the mistake of trying to put a custom recovery on your phone you can put the stock recovery back on your SGS3 (stock recovery is better than no recovery) by downloading the recovery image and overwriting your custom recovery with the command "dd" in Android Terminal Emulator. For this to work you must be rooted.
Here is a link to the tutorial which shows you how to write the stock bootloader and stock recovery back to your Verizon (d2vzw) SGS3 in case you have made this mistake...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
In that thread pay close attention to the 2nd post as it shows you the commands to use to write your stock recovery or stock bootloader back to your phone.
I know it sucks that we can't put custom ROM's or a custom recovery (this hurts the most!) on our Verizon phone for now at least...
COME ON VERIZON EMPLOYEES! LEAK THE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! WE WONT TELL!
Maybe we will get lucky and some international version will come out and we can use that...
I remember awhile back that ASUS locked their bootloader on their Transformer tablet and you could request it from ASUS and they made you fill out this form saying that you understood by unlocking your bootloader you could not make a claim for a warranty. Why can't Verizon do that!?
I pray someone works this out eventually...

That would still require you to have a custom recovery. Also that would still most likely brick your phone cause the only 4.4 ROMS are AOSP based, meaning it installs a different kernel than the stock one. Thus when when the phone would boot up it would check the the kernels signature and would brick upon not finding one.
So I guess all hopes of finding a way around this are hopeless...for now. If u remember, a few months ago, President Obama signed a bill for Verizon Wireless to monitor all cell phone activity without the consent of the user, in conjunction with the NSA. I suspect that this is the reason why only Verizon has opted to completely lock down the bootloader because it contains code embedded in the bootloader (or partitions pertaining to bootloaders, aboot, and such) that allow National Security Agencies to implement spyware and tracking or listening programs. This is a testament to the sub-communist movement that is slowly taking hold in this so-called "free" society that was brought forth by our forefathers.
But back on subject - I just upgraded from a HTC Thunderbolt to SGS3 because most development for the Thunderbolt was few and far between. Upon purchasing my shiny new device, this Abomination of Android that is 4.3 was already being OTA'd. Had I known then....man, had I known then. It's a sad time for superusers all-over Verizon's crummy wireless empire.
