I have an order in for a HP slate but don't get it until April! Don't want to wait and need to use pdf files and be able to run acrobat so I can do annotations during meetings of pdf files and then sync to my server when I get back into my office. I know I can do it with the slate as it is windows based and has flash. Can I also do it with the G after the flash issue is fixed and with a program that runs in the android environment?
I specifically purchased Repligo Reader from the Market because it was the only app (at the time) that handled annotations. I don't know if the annotations are saved in the pdf or not (and thus would be visible if you transfer the pdf to another computer), but Repligo was well worth the purchase price.
Repligo does not allow you to write with a stylis or finger to make notes and that is an annotation feature that is powerful when you are in meetings and then want to take those notes and have them on the page.
It seems like acrobat has a android program, but I can't find anyone that has used it or knows about it. There is a bluebeam program that looks great but it is for windows.
Stylus or fingertip annotation would be the bomb. Dont know of any Android pfd apps that do that.. if you come across one, post it here, because I'd like that too.
Repligo
Friends, Repligo DOES allow you to annotate with a capacitative stylus or finger.
I know because i use it for school work at my university. Thats the main reason why i bought my g tablet in the first place.
When you are in a pdf, tap on the screen onces to bring up the top and bottom menus. At the top, click on the 3rd symbol from the left (pencil symbol).
Click on draw free hand. And...wait for it...magic happens
I've only ever bought 2 paid apps for my G tab and HTC Desire HD. (Repligo and thumd keyboard)
Hope this helps
Yep. It wasn't one of the features it had when it first launched, but it's been added over the last couple of weeks. Also, they finally changed it so when you zoom in on one page, it stays that way for the other pages.
I've bought more than 2 apps, but RepliGo was one of the better purchases.
Huh. Never noticed that before. Thanks for the tip!!
Cool. And thanks. Now any problems with syncing files on my Windows 7 OS office computer to the Gtablet? Any procedures you can turn me on to in that area?
Just purchased it and I am not so happy with it. The free hand mode will not let you let the pen up to print words without asking you to save or cancel at every lift of the finger. Also, I don't see a highlighter. Additinoally if you have a password to open the file the program will just not let you edit the file at all! Do you have any of these issues?
Once you select the text, you can highlight it in the pop up menu...
Just ignore the "done, cancel" menu when you are doing handwrite. You can continue drawing without any interference. Once you click done it does not save. It just confirms that you want to keep the characters. The file is only saved when you go to menu and click save.
Of course if you wanna highlight empty space / non-text, you cant at this moment. Not sure about the password one though.
Thanks for your help! My problem is that I have issues with even getting the program to recognize my selection of text. I touch and then drag and nothing! I have tried with different files (6 to be exact) and one of them allows me to select the text but that is very unstable and not consitant. Really a bummer as when I am in meetings, I want the interaction of me doing this to be quick and seemless. Otherwise I spend time trying to figure the program out instead of figureing out the issues that are present at the meeting.
Can you offer any help? Have a request into Cerience but have not heard back. I fear they are just going to say that some file have this problem and leave it at that. I found another cool program called pdf annotator 3.0 but it is not avalible for android. I just bought this g-tab and learned and did the root, clockmod, vegan and love it. In fact enought to cancel my slate order as this has a bigger screen, but if I can't annotate, I'll have to give this to my daugther who facebooks and googles, but I will need to stay with a pc os based tablet.
Support from Repligo has been good. They e-mailed to say that they don't support my password protected files and that is why I can't comment on those types. On the ones that I can the program is still a bit buggy for me. Not sure if it is the app for me. Will need to work with it for a while.
Repligo works on vegan 5.1.1 but everytime you tab the middle of the screen to get the menu to freehand the app FC. Those who are freehanding in repligo, which rom are you using?

I use RepliGo and all functions work nicely with VEGAn 5.1
(Without the 5.1 Suppliment)
Is anyone else having ebook crashing or lagging? Any fixes?
Don't use that crap. That's for lamers. try Moon reader, Alkido, Cool Reader.
I've also have the crashes and sometimes it freez. I've treid aldiko cause i use it on my Galaxy S but then i have problems with changing landscape and portrait mode. The Moon Reader is runing well, but sometimes if i turn to next page it shows the current page again, though i have to do it twice to turn to next page. I really like the landsape mode of the stock reader. The two Page viewing is very nice. But with the crashes and freezes it's a bad thing. Some crashes are caused by some books, but deleting them don't fix it at all.
Is there a fix right now? Or do i have to use other reader. And does anybody know if there is another reader with a tow page view? I've tried some reader till now but didn't found a reader that i like. I've the latest Prime 1.7 Rom.
I switched to the Prime 1.6 reader version it seems more stable.
You can try the one I modified removing the demo epub and png. Just rename your current "apk" and its library "so" to "orig" before coping over so you can revert back if needed.

thanks for the files. I will try it.
Hello
ich bought an new Galaxy Note 10.1 today...Its for my study and therefore I want to use it as ebook Reader with marking and editing...
no this main feature why I bought this Tablet doesn't work !! I have latest Firmware and also made a factory reset which didn't help.
I have tried it with 2 books, one with 380 and one with 990 pages..Both didn't start to import, or started and canceled without a message on random pages...ITS REALLY ANOYING !!! It takes so long and then it cancels and it just doesn't work...
If I don't get an solution for that I will bring it back... And no I don't want to use oter Apps like ezpdf . I want to use S-Note with all its functions..
Can you help me?
Regards!
Wow a 990 page PDF! I would suggest you're expecting a bit much of a device with 2Gb of memory. Maybe you'd be better off with a laptop with a more powerful processor and plenty of RAM. I really don't think any tablet currently on the market would be suitable for your expectations.
Out of interest, what is the file size in MB of these two files?
28 mb and 130mb
If i would by ezpdf this all should work?
Just imported 730mb 300 page pdf. file to S-note with no problems.

It would be worthwhile downloading the trial version of EZpdf before you purchase. I would also caution that adding a lot of graphical annotation (e.g. handwritten text notes) would add significantly to the original file size.
Have you checked the files have not got corrupted during copying to the Note, can you open them in Android Adobe Reader for instance?
The files work with adobe reader! No one else has this problem since jelly bean but me....im testing ezpdf at the moment
I have a Note 10.1 2014 and have just picked up a Note Pro 12.2. While I am still debating whether to keep both and if not, which one to keep, I have run across an issue I ran into a long time ago. I am trying to keep LectureNotes synced between the two devices, and as happened with my original note and HTC Flyer (used only for backup purposes), using DropSync to keep both devices in sync with each other, causes an occasional delete on one device which seems to propagate to the other device. I have again lost a couple very important notebooks.
What is the best way to keep two devices in sync with each other? Perhaps I am not setting dropsync up correctly, are there suggestions for that? Perhaps there is a better / safer app than dropsync ..... Any and all suggestions appreciated.
I use FolderSync to do this. It has more flexibility to set up multiple sync processes so you can both sync and back up.
I have two sync folders in the cloud connected to my lecture notes folder, controlled by three "pairs".
The first pair does full sync, deletes included, two way. This is echoed on my phone so everything matches.
The second pair is a one way sync from the tablet to the cloud, no delete. This is the backup folder. So if the above situation causes a loss, the backup folder comes to the rescue.
The third pair is really same target folder as the second, but is one way delete only and manual only. Every week or so I confirm that I haven't lost anything from the sync folder, then run this to delete stuff I really wanted to get rid of. This one is optional if you go with a never delete backup approach.

Reason for deletion - FEATURE REQUEST
Hi, I have done some tests and discovered why the sync problem occurs:
When inserting, deleting or moving pages in LectureNotes, the app simply renames the .png files in its system, but it doesn't change their "modified date".
For example, let's take the following scenario: You have pages P1, P2, P3. All created 12:00. You have used a sync program to sync these pages (two-way) to Google Drive. Their modified date in Google Drive will be 12:01 lets say, since you sync every minute as an example.
At 12:02 lets say you delete P2. What LectureNotes will actually do in this scenario is simply to rename P3 to P2, and it will delete P3. But P2 modified date will not be set to 12:02, instead it will remain at 12:00.
In the next sync cycle (let's say 12:03), the sync program will see that P2 in LectureNotes and P2 in Google Drive do not match. It will look at the latest modified date, and see that the P2 in Google Drive has a later modified date (12:01, vs. LectureNotes' P2 which has 12:00). Hence, it will copy over P2 from Google Drive and overwrite your P2 in LectureNotes.
So what you end up with is: In LectureNotes you will now have the P2 which is actually the original P2 you created previously, and the P3 you created will have disappeared.
I have attached a .png file (created in LectureNotes ) to illustrate the problem.
How to fix the problem:
The easiest way to fix the problem and allow people to seamlessly sync between multiple devices and cloud services etc. is to edit the modified date of the .png files when adding, inserting or moving pages.
(For example if I have P1, P2, P3 and move P2 to after P3, LectureNotes today simply renames the files to reflect their relative order - page2.png will be renamed to page3.png and vice versa - but no modified date is changed, which causes sync program to overwrite the files).
I have thought about various options, but there is today no automatic way (unless you want to use the previously suggested manual backup, checking etc. strategies) to create a seamless sync. The workarounds that exist today with the above limitation are:
1) Use only 1-way sync (which means you will just have a back-up system, not a sync system - meaning you can't sync between multiple devices)
OR
2) Don't use the move, insert and delete pages functions. This will make sync between multiple devices work, but is a severe limitation since you won't be able to delete any pages in any of your notebooks.
@[email protected]: You are right, LectureNotes renames files upon page deletion and insertion without updating the last modified date of the renamed file.
I am a bit surprised to hear that this causes problems with syncing. Actually, I would expect a syncing tool to be smart enough to handle cases of simple file renaming within a directory.
I could modify LectureNotes such that it sets the last modified date to the current date for each file it renames. But this could cause huge network traffic. For instance, assume that you have a 100 pages notebook and your insert a page before the first page. If LectureNotes sets the last modified date to the current date for each file it renames, all 101 pages will be sent over the network.

Thanks for responding.
I understand. Is it possible to fix the sync issue in other ways? Do you know any other syncing tool which handles this? I am using the tool called "FolderSync" and I would have expected it to be a good tool.
There are some options in it, such as "Use MD5 checksums" (default checked), "Use temp-file scheme" (default checked) and "Disable file-size check" (default unchecked) in it, would you expect that changing some of these may help?
If you are not aware of another syncing tool, would there be another way of modifying LectureNotes to make sync work without causing the problem you mention.
Actually files are quite small so I would not expect there to be a large network traffic, and moving/deleting and inserting pages is a quite rare occurrence, so I think it would be a good solution anyway. Currently, not being able to use any of these functions if you want to sync is a severe limitations (however I will still keep LectureNotes because it is the best tool in the market - I have tested Samsung S Note, FiiNote, Papyrus and many others but LectureNotes is simply the best and I really don't want to leave it).
Thanks for helping, and very much appreciate your comments. I would be happy to give you a 5-star review on Android market also.
@[email protected]: I do not use this app (or any other syncing app), so I cannot say much concerning your questions.
I do not know which algorithm this syncing app applies, but syncing solely based on last modified date is not a particularly good idea (in particular under Android, where the last modified date is notoriously unreliable), as being able to handle file renaming properly is crucial.
As I stated in my previous post, LectureNotes could set the last modified date whenever it renames a file. I would not like to make this the new default behavior, but I can add this as an option. I just uploaded v2.5.3 into the app stores (and I also need to think a moment about the implications of such change), so that I have to ask you for some patience.
Thank you, having this as an option would be fantastic. Please let me know what you decide and if you do upload a new version with this option.
I have done some research, and the app developer for this sync app says that it doesn't detect renames because that is instable and would cause battery drain:
groups.google . com / forum / embed / ?parenturl=http%3A%2F%2F www .tacit.dk%2Fforum&service=jotspot&ul=1&theme=default&place=forum%2Ftacitdynamics&showpopout=true&showsearch=true#!searchin/tacitdynamics/renaming/tacitdynamics/wdeDfI1a-Ks/vA45y0a8fJMJ
[This forum prevents posting links until a new user has at least 10 posts so I had to insert white spaces into the link - please remove white spaces so the link works.]
So it seems like this is exactly what is causing the problem.
I will research if there are other apps that detect renames, but with the above comments i doubt it and your "option to update modified date" would be greatly appreciated.
Solution found!!
Hi, I have tested the app "Autosync for Google Drive" developed by ttxapps and this solves the problem!
I have tested this:
1. Create P1, P2, P3 - sync
2. Delete P2 - sync
3. Insert P2(new) between P1 and P3 - sync
In all 3 steps, Drive Autosync behaved perfectly, replicating exactly on Google Drive what happened (while FolderSync - the old app - failed both step 2 and step 3 because of the issue I described previously.
Thank you for your quick responses.
@[email protected]: OK, thanks for the feedback, glad to hear that you could solve the problem.
I know this post is a little old at this point, but I've recently been testing the same thing, trying to get lecture notes to sync between two samain note devices. I'be tested with both dropsync and drive autosync and neither seem to be able to decipher how to sync lecture notes reliably. I get all kinds of anomalies like missing pages, missing text, page additions instead of overwrites.
At this point it looks like manual backups and restores are the only option. To that end it might be handy to have an auto backup function that dumps backup files to a synced folder at least. It's not super awesome, but I don't any other way to get my notes synced up. Lecture Notes is the best note tool on android so imuch definitely not going to stop using it!
If anyone has new ideas I'd love to hear them.
I use BTSync and I have never had any problem with sync between my Note 3/ Note 10.1, plus I have a copy of files on my PC through BTSync pc app.
Has anyone tried syncing notebooks with Syncthing?
Old, but interesting thread...
Witch app(s) will sync Lecture Notes... today in 2020...?
i've returned 2 note pro's thinking they were defective and realising now that the issue of rebooting was due to a corrupted file in my system, i have identified it is one of my comics files i had stored years ago on cd disc, the problem is there are like 1000 comics i can't check each one individually.. does anyone know of an app or a way to scan the tablet to find the rogue corrupt file?
originally when it caused the reboot the comics were stored on my sd card, the second time stored in the device storage and third time in device storage again.. apart from checking one by one is there a short cut way that will tell me which file is damaged?
i know years ago i remember encountering one of the comics would not open that was the corrupt file however i cannot remember which one it was it was years ago i last checked.
A simple corrupted non system file shouldn't be causing the issue. However a simple look at file sizes may point to an issue, it may be more related to filename structure if very long or has non standard naming conventions not used in Unix.
If you have the files on cd and are moving over just move a portion over at a time to narrow the problem down.

Connect it to a computer and let explorer search for 0kb files. Ignore the .nomedia and playlist files.
Any mediafiles that show up as 0kb are corrupt.

Thanks maybe it is a file name issue. Im definitely sure it's the comics as all 3 have rebooted constantly because of iti just cant figure out wht it is. Is a filename which is too long likely to cause reboot?
i know it's not a software or firmware issue per se but i can't figure it out what's causing the reboot. Whenevr i play videos and lock the screen it reboots but it's only after i transferred the comics over
What would be considered a non standard naming structure..it is baffling why it keeps rebooting im transferring the comics away now to see if it stops
Only alphabet, numbers, underscores and dashes should be used, spaces are not great(depends on what you are doing). basically nothing else should be used(there are exceptions depending on Unix version but this is Linux) or Linux will hate the naming convention. Dots are fine also.
Did you load a comic app to read these or are they just. Jpg or similiar?

I have about 80.000 pdf's and comics in one folder. ALL have spaces in the name.
Comics are usually in cbr, cbz (both are .zip variants) or pdf format. Can you honestly imagine having to load every single page in jpg? Lol.
Exclude the folder from mediascanner by dropping a .nomedia file in it, and scan the thing with Windows Explorer or Apple Finder for 0kb files. (regular search, in english the string is size:empty ) That should be more than sufficient.

Being unfamilar with how comics are stored is why I asked...
Spaces can be problematic based on operating system and interface, Unix nor Linux like them so I avoid at all costs. Just because an app allows you to read them doesn't mean it cannot be an issue.
Unix interpretes a space as space between commands when using command line, since OP problem may be when files are being read outside shot a weird combo is actually causing an issue.
When switching between Windows, Unix, VMS worlds and having them all need to read all files properly either from web servers being hosted on them or from applications being run locally, spaces are one of the biggest issues. That and forward and back slashes.

they are scanned comics from the 90s i had the stored for about 10years theyre .cbr files optimised for reading in comic apps like perfect viewer.
do you have any idea what is causing the reboot? ive removed the files now no more reboot..very frustrating.
f sake it seems the reboot is back despite removing all the comics...not as much as before only once since this morning howeve it is back..it didnt happen once when i got the tablet till up till putting the comics in..however i havent really been using the tablet since then watching videos or doing anything intensive tbh so it's hard to say the cause..do you think it's definitely a rogue app or firmware issue rather than hardware?
this is the 3rd tablet i have had the first one kept rebooting all the time..i updated to the latest firmware and disabled all the apps i could that i dont use.. on my replacement i kept it as simple as possible i kept the original firmware but did not disable any apps let it run as normal as possible but did add the comics in..in the morning it rebooted.. so i returned it. now this one is the third time and it's so annnoying i have to think that if ALL 3 are rebooting it cant be a hardware issue right? i cant be that unlucky that all 3 have hardware issues so surely it must be right to assume it is all firmware related etc?
it is such hassle doing factory reset each time sorting it out one by one filling in passwords etc.. that it doesnt look like i can resolve it now.. the comics are removed yet it still is rebootin for all i know the device would have reboot had i did more ram intensive stuff like watching videos..am i just going to have to accept it? being thankful it isnt a hardware issue.
ironically my second tablet didnt screen flicker when i was using the original firmware
Short of factory reset not sure how you're going to narrow it down to hardware/firmware or software.
If you removed offending app and comics completely and dalvik cache was wiped it eliminates that..
F sake i did a factory reset yet it is still rebooting it seems to be after ram intensive stuff this cant be right? It can't be hardware because all 3 have done it i just can't figure out what's causing it it has 3gb ram nd power saving is off why does it keep rebooting?
I think maybe the sd card may have some things in it from the comics but i removed the sd card and it still randomly reboots could my contacts crashing be the reason? I disabled contacts and contacts storage as i do not need itif idont it keeps bri gingup the warning unfortunately contacts has stopped.

im not rooted so cant do dalvik wipe. Wht on earth could be causing it?
like i said ithas been fine since i got it before i put the comics in i removed the comics factory reset and it keeps rebooting still what the hell i honestly can't figure this out all 3 did the same thing im about to give up
I'm not sure what you are doing after a factory reset but what I would do is remove any SD card and do a factory reset again. I would not allow restoration of any other software (when you get to the portion of setup where it asks if you want to automatically backup and restore day no) and I would simply run the device bare bones for a day or two without installing anything to rule out any application that I might be installing.

ok so i rebooted a 2nd time (jeez im getting fed up of this) and did not load the sd card just incase i also decided to set up a brand new gmail account so that it does not sync my contacts from the other google account in case that was the issue.
so far so good. i also formatted the sd card did not transfer the comics over and all is good.. now i do not know whether it is indeed the comics or whether it's because of my contacts storage on the other google account i originally used.. and i dont really want to test it to find out..originally when i used the previous google account and did not add any comics it did not reboot once.. so what's weird is after the first factory reset where i did not format the sd card as soon as i left it in the sd slot it casued the reboot later no matter what i did.. how the hell is this thing so sensitive that it reboots just by having the sd card in..its like there's a file in there that as soon as u put the sd card in it causes a reboot.. remeber i removed all the comics from the sd card previously and the device and it kept rebooting inexplicably..
so right now i can't figure out if it's the fact i formatted the sd card and factory resetted it or whether it's because i use a new google account?
do any of you guys know how or why something as innocuous as comic books or remnants of it in the sd card is causing a reboot?
Given that the best way to troubleshoot technical issues is to approach things in a logical fashion it's important to isolate things one at a time. You can either do that by removing one thing at a time OR by starting fresh and adding things one at a time.
Just to explain my previous post . . . if someone asks the question at times like this whether or not it's a hardware issue the first thing I jump to is to yank the SD card, factory reset (personally I prefer a full wipe to stock using Kies and a factory image file) and then to NOT install anything on the device . . that right there is fresh out of the box experience with no external influences other than any updates to preinstalled applications. If a person has the same issues with that then there's likely a hardware issue. Sometimes I see people assuming that they're not installing software after initial setup when in fact they are when they opt into Google's automatic backup/restore feature during lyncing to their Gmail account during setup. Its rare but it happens and at that point they're not evaluating a stock out of box experience, obviously.
Back to your last post . . its possible that your SD card has a bad sector on it and the act of formatting it simply erased files that would otherwise be scanned by media server/index services which was causing the reboot. One way to rule that out would be to use a computer and try to do memory testing of the card.
It can be difficult to narrow these issues down, as said I would run bone stock with no sdcard for a few days not even adding a Google account or any updates and see what happens. Google updates have caused me a few issues on other devices when updating an app and needed reinstalled even to clean things up is why i suggested no updating anything. The system is not going to scan the sdcard or use data off it unless called upon to do so. Adding sdcard and if a problem still switch to another even.
Recently a friend had a card that would only read certain movie files and then if reloaded onto card wouldn't read it then. Card was found to be bad(well it works for some files anyways) didn't show bad sectors either.

thanks for the advice.
well guys the tablet hasn't rebooted since meaning it must have been something in the comics which as soon as you add it to sd card or device storage and even if you remove all it's contents still leaves a lasting effect unless i format the sd card and factory reset.. i hate factory reseting it's such hassle going one by one spending days trying bit by bit when it really should just work out of the box with no problem.. however this prob isnt a samsung fault it's a rogue file or something in my comics folder which i cant figure out what it is?
do you know anyway i can scan the comics folder which is now on my laptop so i can fix it for any errors?
i bought this tablet specifically for reading comics and now i can't haha otherwise it'll reboot like crazy.. yes i know it's not the tablets fault it's my comics fold3er of scans where i cant identify the thing which is casuing conflict.. would checkdisk work?
im just fed up because i returned my original black wasted loads of petrol going round tryna find the same colour elsewhere ended up with white returned that and had to travel other part of town for the last black one and in process it's ended up costing me an extra 15 pounds total to get it as i lost the cashback i got buying the original and returning it plus the petrol plus also by returning i lost a goodwill refund.
anyway on plus side this one has less backlight bleed so pleased with that however the screen flickering issue concerned me which the other 2 did not have.. i've updated the firmware so no more flickering during video playback however i dont use high brightness so hard to say.. i do see random flickers from time to time but i think it may be slight glitches so bit paranoid.
anyway what is the best way to scan my comics folder in windows to identify bad sectors or anything corrupt that would cause the note pro to reboot?
i dont want to put comics back on or even read from a separate sd card as the evidence shows it'll reboot again unless i get to the root cause.
