I have an order in for a HP slate but don't get it until April! Don't want to wait and need to use pdf files and be able to run acrobat so I can do annotations during meetings of pdf files and then sync to my server when I get back into my office. I know I can do it with the slate as it is windows based and has flash. Can I also do it with the G after the flash issue is fixed and with a program that runs in the android environment?
I specifically purchased Repligo Reader from the Market because it was the only app (at the time) that handled annotations. I don't know if the annotations are saved in the pdf or not (and thus would be visible if you transfer the pdf to another computer), but Repligo was well worth the purchase price.
Repligo does not allow you to write with a stylis or finger to make notes and that is an annotation feature that is powerful when you are in meetings and then want to take those notes and have them on the page.
It seems like acrobat has a android program, but I can't find anyone that has used it or knows about it. There is a bluebeam program that looks great but it is for windows.
Stylus or fingertip annotation would be the bomb. Dont know of any Android pfd apps that do that.. if you come across one, post it here, because I'd like that too.
Repligo
Friends, Repligo DOES allow you to annotate with a capacitative stylus or finger.
I know because i use it for school work at my university. Thats the main reason why i bought my g tablet in the first place.
When you are in a pdf, tap on the screen onces to bring up the top and bottom menus. At the top, click on the 3rd symbol from the left (pencil symbol).
Click on draw free hand. And...wait for it...magic happens
I've only ever bought 2 paid apps for my G tab and HTC Desire HD. (Repligo and thumd keyboard)
Hope this helps
Yep. It wasn't one of the features it had when it first launched, but it's been added over the last couple of weeks. Also, they finally changed it so when you zoom in on one page, it stays that way for the other pages.
I've bought more than 2 apps, but RepliGo was one of the better purchases.
Huh. Never noticed that before. Thanks for the tip!!
Cool. And thanks. Now any problems with syncing files on my Windows 7 OS office computer to the Gtablet? Any procedures you can turn me on to in that area?
Just purchased it and I am not so happy with it. The free hand mode will not let you let the pen up to print words without asking you to save or cancel at every lift of the finger. Also, I don't see a highlighter. Additinoally if you have a password to open the file the program will just not let you edit the file at all! Do you have any of these issues?
Once you select the text, you can highlight it in the pop up menu...
Just ignore the "done, cancel" menu when you are doing handwrite. You can continue drawing without any interference. Once you click done it does not save. It just confirms that you want to keep the characters. The file is only saved when you go to menu and click save.
Of course if you wanna highlight empty space / non-text, you cant at this moment. Not sure about the password one though.
Thanks for your help! My problem is that I have issues with even getting the program to recognize my selection of text. I touch and then drag and nothing! I have tried with different files (6 to be exact) and one of them allows me to select the text but that is very unstable and not consitant. Really a bummer as when I am in meetings, I want the interaction of me doing this to be quick and seemless. Otherwise I spend time trying to figure the program out instead of figureing out the issues that are present at the meeting.
Can you offer any help? Have a request into Cerience but have not heard back. I fear they are just going to say that some file have this problem and leave it at that. I found another cool program called pdf annotator 3.0 but it is not avalible for android. I just bought this g-tab and learned and did the root, clockmod, vegan and love it. In fact enought to cancel my slate order as this has a bigger screen, but if I can't annotate, I'll have to give this to my daugther who facebooks and googles, but I will need to stay with a pc os based tablet.
Support from Repligo has been good. They e-mailed to say that they don't support my password protected files and that is why I can't comment on those types. On the ones that I can the program is still a bit buggy for me. Not sure if it is the app for me. Will need to work with it for a while.
Repligo works on vegan 5.1.1 but everytime you tab the middle of the screen to get the menu to freehand the app FC. Those who are freehanding in repligo, which rom are you using?

I read the best news reader on PocketPC in Newsbreak.
Is there a way to synchronize it with an online newsreader ?

I've been using Newsbreak for a while now. However, SPB just released Insight. Check it out...
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/insight/screenshots.html?en
Edit:
Okay, downloaded SPB Insight. As of now, its not worth the web space it took to advertise it. As of this release, its worthless. Got it to download one fed then nothing. No Auto updates as of this release. No Today Screen plug in. Maybe in later updates but for now, stick with Newsfront.
ive tried alot of RSS readers and only use Egress now which supports a corperate firewall (for when im at work).
SBP however i tried and quite liked the display and the news item display, didnt like the interface.
the only catch with egress is the way it stores files on the SD card it can cause the card to have file system problems. to overcome this i carry 2 cards with me now one for news and one for everything else
Seeking A Different Kind of RSS reader
I would like an RSS reader that
1. Stores everything, including program, on the SD card
2. Has a setting to "download ONLY and AUTOMATICALLY" by activesync, to avoid roaming charges when I travel
3. will preload images
4. has no advertising (paid program ok)
5. renders HTML (I couldn't get NPOP to do this)
I like Newsbreak OK, but it fails 2 and 3. I have it set to download by activesync using a skschema program, but it still doesn't preload images. Avantgo doesn't like the sd card and has advertising. It isn't a good rss reader anyway. I want to be able to read the thing when I can't (airplanes) or don't want to (traveling abroad at $15/MB) connect to the web.
If one meeting these criteria has come into existence, I would like to know about it.
I'm pretty sure SPB Insight meets all your requirements.
I'm using Insight alongside with newsbreak. I like Insight a lot more but it keeps freezing and causing my device to freeze sometimes. I haven't gone through all the settings options of newsbreak yet, but right now it doesn't download images and it only downloads a paragraph of the feeds.
hey Egress has the option to download or not to download images, stores all the news items on sd card or internal memory and can support proxy for use via activesync.
only thing is it will only include a paragraph or a few lines of text for the news items.
It there a way to have all your rss feeds stored in one single location and then access to it from your PocketPC, and online from a Web browser without having to reenter all your feeds ?

Perhaps it's just me but I have not found a way to get Insight to download more than 3 lines from most RSS feeds. This is annoying as it means for a lot of the feeds, such as Vertikal and BBC I can only see the first bit of the information!!!
NewsGator.com anyone? (or .co.uk, my logon works on both versions of the site and personally, the .co.uk version is a little less cluttered) They do a mobile aggregator too.
More online aggregators, information:

I was having that issue with some feeds using Insight, but then i went to the support forum and theres this guy there whos good at coding and told me that the feeds that only bring u a couple lines aren't optimized for Insight, you have to edit the feed file and it'll work great. He helped me out with several feeds and he's got a tutorial on how to do it yourself but i'm not good at code at all so that tutorial was confusing to me. Check out that forum here
Also, before i recommend spb insight to anyone, i'd say be careful. I've had the program corrupt my miniSD card 3 times now. You have to be patient with it. If you have a lot of feeds (i had 50 something in my case) it may look like its frozen but its not. And my impatient dumbass soft reset the device and since its writing to the card; POOF unrecognizeable. I had to format then use GetDataBack to recover all lost data from card, copy paste over and I was back in action.
On the fuze how can I program the phone so it will automatically change certain words as I program. For example typing an "i" all by itself automatically becomes an "I". or march become March or tuesday becomes Tuesday.
There is a "find and replace" option for an entire document, but that is not what I am looking for. I am looking for Auto Correct where you type in Replace:______ With __________ and it applies to all things typed on the phone (emails, notes, word docs, etc)
Please advise. Thank you everyone!
http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63
This will tell you how to do it but it's not as great as it should be...
I think this would be the solution and is the exact feature I was asking about - http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=WordCorrector&platform=ppc
But I am still trying to make it work. It installed with no problems and shows in the programs folder and I can open it up and add new items, but I can not figure out how to activate it to work with text, emails, Word, etc.
would love some help if possible.
that app just changes the autocorrect file...it's the same thing you can do manually but it is not the T9's autocorrect file (it's the standard SIP's file)
that is what I found out also. looks like i am back to having no option by the T9. This is another thing that I am surprised the htc fuze/touch pro phones do not have better installed systems/features. You should be able to make the choice to turn off T9 and use the normal Auto Correct tool like you would see in normal work, or most email programs. oh well.
Alright... Here's the low-down. I'm using an AT&T Fuze with the updated official ROM. I am having more problems with web browsing than I ever had with my old device...
Opera Mobile: Randomly refuses to load images. I just get the empty box that says 'image' at the top. Reloading does nothing and the context menu doesn't appear. And when images DO load and I want to save them, I'm forced to save them in a folder on the root of either my device or storage card (i.e.: "/storage card/temp" but not "/storage card/temp/images") and am forced to go in later and organize the files into the correct sub-folders. Plus, I can't set the default save location to the storage card, so I have to change THAT every time I try to save an image, too.
Opera Mini: With the stock Esmertec Jbed, Opera Mini isn't allowed to save or read files from my device. Way to go, AT&T. We appreciate you trying to protect people from themselves, but you guys suck. I tried downloading another version of Esmertec Jbed from the forum here and OM is able to save images, but half the time they don't display fully (I get the blank squares that OM likes to use as place-holders while it loads the image). That, and OM locks up with that modified Jbed...
Skyfire: Promising, but why can't I disable javascript? I keep getting popups that are obstructing the screen and I can't get rid of. That, and it seems to be overly sensitive to screen taps. ("No, I didn't click on that! Go back! GAH! Stupid popups!")
IE: Well, it shows images that Opera Mobile refuses to, it lets me save those images when Opera Mini won't even think about it and, as opposed to Skyfire, it gives me no option to ENABLE javascript. It does, however, throw up all over itself if you try to view a page that wasn't designed for a mobile browser. Sometimes it even locks up as a result...
Which brings me to my question for you fine folks. Can anyone offer a solution or fix for ANY of the above problems? Any one of these browsers would be fantastic, if not for its crippling flaw. I've read a little on this NetFront browser, but I don't know how I feel about PAYING for yet another browser.
Oh, and MiniMo/Fennec drags my device to a crawl, so that's no good...
You could try Iris Browser: no flash support but it a good browser.
D'rath
PS: FEnnec is an alpha version
Thanks, D'rath! Iris works WONDERFULLY! All the nice things that Opera offers (tabs, 'flick' scrolling, accelerometer screen tilt) and it actually displays the images I ask for!

I got my new HD2 and was delighted, but then tried to get the software that I have been using previously to work on it.
As I travel around and look in second hand book and record shops, I am never totally sure from memory whether i have a particular book or cd. Publishers keep changing the covers and synopses.
On my Psion, it had as standard a lovely card database / rolodex type of program. It was easy to input, easy to search.
When I moved to the hx4700 on windows 2003SE I lost that. Eventually I found Data On The Run which is fully access compatible. So I've converted all of my lists to access, and was happy enough. It wasn't great as it tries to get too much on, and portrait only.
Now on the HD2, the software does not like fingers, only styluses. Scrolling is virtually impossible, as it won't drag to scroll. The pop out scroll bar helper does not show. The developer is one guy and hasn't time to continue developing.
I've looked at stuff like Bookbag plus and someone mentioned "My Collection" but I cannot find it anywhere on the net. There are serious commercial pieces of software that are in effect full database programs, but that is a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
I know this may only help in the short term, and doesn't solve the software issue.
Have you changed the original theme on the device? If so the Pop out function on the theme is lost in order to return it without going back to the original theme you could try this. please remember to backup
Hope this helps in the short term.
Try this
Try ListPro.. it's a great application..

THanks. I had seen Collectorz which has templates for this, but had not found listpro. It looks a fairly steep learning curve, and I need to import my existing lists. However, its great advantage is that it is only one program that covers a multitude of lists, so i won;t be paying out twice or three times for basically the same thing.
I've installed and imported my book list, so can now try and get it synchronised. I had to install the cab file separately. I can set up the synchronisation in the Windows MObile Device Centre, but that has to be done through "files" and unless i have missed something that only lets me synchronise to the machine, not the storage card. That is no damn good.
Preface: I'm new to Android and I hope these questions don't fall in to the "bloat crap" category.
XDA Thread Search engine is off line, and google couldn't find specific issues.
Thanks in advance for any insights provided.
I picked up a Transformer over the weekend, and I'm not impressed with the performance.
Issues/Question:
1.- I've tried every PDF reader (EZ, etc) and I get a loading or blurry screen with every page turn for around ~3 seconds. I've put the files on internal and external memory.
Is there anyway to improve the page load?
2.- When viewing any web page it loads square by square ~100x100px.
Is there anyway to improve the page load?
3.- When using the up/down arrows on the keyboard, pages are very jerky, but using the onsceen scroller it's OK... can I do anything to improve the up/down arrow keys?
4.- Is there anyway/app that allows you to select text easily? Click/move cursor?
5.- Is there anyway of opening a link in a new Tab using the kb? Eg Ctrl + click?
6.- Is there anyway to view the link URL (mouse over) before clicking it?
7.- Is there anyway to edit the hosts file without rooting the device?
8.- How do I open a console window?
Thanks
7) nope
8) i don't know if the terminal emulator comes stock, or it came with my custom rom...but basically, you just need a some sort of terminal app (either terminal emulator, or my preference, connectbot)

Return your TF and get an ipad2. It is infinitely better at everything. And you get to be an ass like that guy on the train who told me to my face I had an immitation.

Why didn't you just get a laptop? From your questions, I can tell that you tried to use the TF like a laptop. This is the #1 reason why people are disappointed at the tablet platform when they first got it.
Repeat after me. Tablets ain't no laptops.
Tablets ain't no phones either.
The tablet platform is a completely new niche. It is up to YOU to figure out ways to use it more easily and incorporate it into your life.
Imagine if everybody tried to use a motorcycle like a car or a canoe like a ship. Each thing is completely capable of standing on its own in its own niche.
I dare you to go into a motorcycle bar and tell people you can't treat it like a car and see what happens.
I have not touched my laptop for 4 months. I use the TF everyday. As engineers, we have to have astm and aci references everywhere we go for design and analysis purposes. We also have to type out a lot of reports.
All the other guys at work would carry around their books for references (these books are thousands of pages thick), their ipad 2 for entertainment, and their clunky laptops for work. I just carry my TF+dock. Think about that for a moment. Apple users can't imagine using the ipad 2 for anything other than fun and games. And on the opposite end, you can't imagine using the tablet like anything other than a PC.
Isn't it time you step back and reconsider why you got the TF in the first place?
Unlike the previous guy, I'll try not to be a complete sarcastic ass about some of the answers.
1) Repligo is a good one, although I simply use Adobe out of laziness. Personally, I don't have a problem with the 3 second lag. But that's because I also remember when a web page took 3 seconds to load a page of text and graphics.
2) I use a combination of the OS browser, Skyfire, Opera, and Firefox fox everything I do. Each provides a specific not-so-niche role in my daily use. Opera and Firefox have the fastest and smoothest loads.
3) If it's just in Browser that you're experiencing that, try one of the other browsers I suggested. If it's otherwise, then unfortunately, you'll just have to live with it. Maybe one of the roms out there have smoother operations, I don't know as I'm still running rooted stock.
4) Press-hold until word is highlighted or menu for "Select/Scroll" comes up. Proceed. Touch screen only.
5) Unknown. Touch screen works well enough for such a simple thing.
6) Press-hold until menu pops up. Address will be listed there.
7) That's part of the advantage of root.
8) You'll need to install a terminal program proceed.
I would advise that you run the full gamut of tests during your exchange/return period to figure out exactly what you're wanting the TF to do. If it's just because it's android, fair enough. If it's because you were told/had the idea that this is an ipad killer, fair enough. If it's to be used as a replacement to your desktop/laptop, fair enough. But it's up to you to determine what you want to use it for.
I got this a month ago, to the day and haven't had a reason to go back to Windows for more than transferring files to the cloud. Reason for that is that I don't own the dock. BT keyboard works perfectly well for me. For me, this is my be-all end-all. It's my desktop, my laptop, my media player, my video viewer, everything. Mind, I'm also very adaptable and fluid, so having one device with multiple programs to do the same/similar thing is nothing new to me.
Though truth be told, what do I know? I'm merely a student, a writer, an amateur artist, and an over-obsessive reader. I'm not doing anything major, like construction, law, or IT.
Thank you all for your comments/answers.
My EEE pad, isn't playing nice with NVFlash... I try and get it rooted some how.
1.- I tried RepliGo, still slow... same as EzPDF.
2.- I'll try anther browser... always been a fan of Chrome though.
5.- I would have thought implementing a double tap, press one area then tap link for a new tab would be fairly easy.
@goodintentions: I guess when you bought your EEE you felt like a down syndrome kid in a candy store.
I kind of took it for granted I would be able to load a PDF page < 1 second... waiting ~3 per page on a 120 page magazine adds 6 minutes... now think about the number of magazines/books you might read.
I bought the EEE for reading PDF's and web pages... they don't make laptops with decent screens... NFI why, but that's just the prevailing logic in Taiwan/Japan/USA.
Thanks again.
Am using mantano reader for pdf so far still the best reader for me and dolphin for pad beside firefox as browser.
