[Q] How Fast Will It Sell Out? Wanna Guess? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, the signs are pointing (un-officially) to Oct 24, or 25, or maybe the 28th for availability. Whether the N5 will be available to purchase then or later, my question is, how fast do you think it will sell out from the Play Store?
10 mins?
15 mins?
20 mins?

I hope Google is prepared this time and it will not go out of stock in 20 min, I'm selling my gnex and I want to buy N5

I'll put my money on 15 minutes. I recently returned my Note3 for this phone. Im not sitting infront of a computer screen hitting the F5 key like a BUNCH of guys I know of.

It won't sell out. They will have plenty of stock through multiple retailers.

1 second and 4 milliseconds i guess
Sent from my Nexus 4

It's not going to sell out as fast this year.
The Nexus 7 refresh also didn't go last year's fiasco because they had more stock and they sure as hell better know how to gauge demand by now for this phone.
...
That being said I'm still going to try buy the phone early.

Not as fast as last years N4 low inventory mess!

No out of stocks for Nexus 5..!!
Well I think it does not go out of stock.
Google has made LG to produce a large amount of Nexus 5, So that it does not go out of stock.

FT, the source was a very informative rep at Best Buy's computer sales department. She also gave me some other information concerning availability timing but it seemed a little unusual so I didn't mention it. The on-sale date was confirmed by associates at a couple different local stores.

I ordered one on the phone and the lady said it should be here by the 19th-24th. I'm leaving on the 27th, so I'm not complaining.
Ordered mine just now. 32GB in grey. Said it would be here sometime between 23 and 26 July. At least I got one on order and now can stop trying to keep up with it's status! My Nexus 7 will keep me well occupied until my Infinity gets here!

I had a BIG credit on my Best Buy card from where I returned my iPad 3 so I had to order from BB. Maybe mine will be shipped early since I used my BB card. Mine is also coming directly to my home.

I was planning on using my gift card, but I couldn't do it over the phone. The lady was really trying to rush through and get my order through for some reason. I almost said that I'd go down to the store to order if I could use my gift card but she completed the order quickly. I'll just save it and use it for the dock I suppose. Or if there's a Best Buy near my college, I'll just use it to pick up Halo 4 in November.

[Q] Bought the Nexus 4 for GF. Bad move?

SOLVED!!
GF decided she wants to buy the N5 so I sold the N4 on craigslist!
If you are trying to keep costs down. The nexus 4 is fine..
Thanks. Is the nexus 4 still considered a relevant phone for at least another year?

I think so, as it will be supported by Google for at least another year and some new phones like the One Max have still almost the same processor built in.

Good point. from what I understand, the only reason why Google stop supporting the Nexus S, is because it did not have enough RAM. Google is pretty good on their software updates on their older flagships. I think this is a good buy..
if worse comes to worst, I can always sell the phone for a pretty good price. I notice these Nexus phone hold their value very well.
u bought it already and not bad choice if ur gf is into gaming and stuff or into phones n5 would be better even im thinking to keep n4 but u know... I JUST CAN'T DO IT!!! it isn't out yet anyway dont worry: n4 is great phone

If the Nexus 5 wasn't just about to be released and I wasn't an upgrade-aholic, the Nexus 4 would be my go-to phone. It's that good.
You probably should have asked this in the Nexus 4 forum.
It's a Nexus, Google will support it for more than another year. They only stopped supporting the two earliest Nexus since it lacks the hardware to run the new OS and ability to receive such large over the air updates (low ram and too small /system partition to hold the system files). The Nexus 4 is a powerful device I wouldn't be surprised if it'll get updates for atleast 2 more years. If it wasn't for needing the best spec or playing high graphical games, the Nexus 4 will probably work fine for another 3 years. It still get Android version earlier than any other non-Nexus devices, although the battery life and camera quality might not be up to standard anymore. Gaming is only a problem because of the thermal throttling which kicks in at 39*C, but if you flash custom kernel you can raise it to 60*C or higher.
The Nexus 4 does have Band 4 LTE that works with T-Mobile if you flash the LTE compatible baseband.
The Galaxy Nexus is still being supported by Google as of now, so I think the Nexus 4 will be good for quite a while.

I'm getting the N5. My GF has a crappy HTC One VX and I got her a Nexus 4 16GB for 240 out the door. She is paying me the difference after I sell her VX.
I know there is no LTE on the N4 but She doesn't use much mobile data... She only has 300 mb on her plan.
I'm going to be flashing CarbonRom and Franco kernel on it and let her tinker with it. Shes starting to get into this android thing lolol. She rooted her locked bootloader Samsung tablet herself lol.
After taxes and shipping the N5 would come out to about 400 bucks. That's 160 more than the N4...
Now the main question is, how does the N4 compare to new phones out now? Does it still hold it's own? Was this a good buy for her? I mean we are trying to keep costs down for her.
Mind you, I have never even held a N4. Its still in the mail

Where did I say I'm "making" her pay me back?
You must be mistaken. She wants the Nexus 4 and doesn't want to go through the hassle of selling her current phone: so ill sell it for her. She is buying her own phone with her own cash. Her VX is irritating her. I'm just doing all the buying and selling and moneywork.
Well I have some news: she decided to get the Nexus 5 as well. I sold the Nexus 4 on craigslist and made profit.

Na man the N4 sounds like a great phone for her, she doesn't sound like a power user so i don't think she would see much difference between the N4 and the N5 and the N4 will get all the least updates for the next year or two so its all good man.
I agree with lqrt here for the cost the nexus is fine. If she's getting into the whole android thing " jealous by the way" she will enjoying the nexus 4 because there are lots and lots of hacks for it now if you got a nexus 5 it would take a good while for alot of hacks to come to soak up like a sponge with water lol

[Q] Would you have lined up for the Nexus 5 if available at Brick and Mortar?

Fun question for the start of Nexus 5 week. Have the Nexus phones reached "sheep" status? I personally would have taken a day off and lined up for 8 hours max.
I wouldn't line up for any phone. Life is too beautiful to waste it waiting in line for a piece of gadget.

Wat
There needs to be a 'Yes I did line up on launch day, as the first and only person in the cue'. Took all of 15 minutes to walk from home to the store then back again with my fresh nexus.
Now that's a good launch day experience.
You forgot the <sarcasm></sarcasm> tags there, caribouxda.
As for me, no, I wouldn't wait in line for a smartphone of any kind, even if they were giving them away for free and I was guaranteed to get one regardless of my position in the line or the length of time I had to wait.
People actually do that sort of thing... how utterly pathetic.
This should be in the Q/A section.
No. I would wait in line for an hour so if guaranteed to get one. But I liked clicking refresh on computer and now patiently waiting. Just wish I would have know when announcing.

I would have waited Friday. That's only because I lost my phone Halloween night and am stuck waiting for mine to ship. I'm on that "Ships in 2-3 weeks" bandwagon for a 32gb black. No backup phone or source of music in the car/gym either until it arrives.

I would have bought the Nexus 5 at a retail store had it been available on launch day, but I would NOT "line up" for the privilege because no product is worth that. I tried that sort of BS once on Black Friday, and have come to the conclusion that I value my time too much to waste it sitting around in a line for hours for some electronic gadget.
Absolutely not. There are easier and more efficient ways to get 30 seconds of fame for being an idiot.

This was exactly my experience at Carphone Warehouse in Norwich, UK. The Apple Store is opposite and there were literally 100 people (sheep) queued up for the iPad Air. Incidentally, I waltzed into Carphone and out again in 5 mins flat being their only customer, they weren't even signed into their tills.
Then on Sunday I went into the Apple Shop and bought an iPad Air, MAN iOS 7 sucks ass! Suckers that queue up deserve to shot. Life is TOO short.
Maybe I'm biased by my working at the Apple Store.

If you are waiting for Google Play Store, please don't wait for them. The best you can do is get free shipping or playstore credit. For retail, the price starts to come down after a few months. If it is close to Christmas, Easter or any major holidays then there are great deals to be taken.
On a new device like this, Google doesn't usually reduce the price. They may offer additional incentives for the holiday season, such as Play Store credit, free shipping, etc., but that's about it. The price won't be reduced until just before the next nexus phone is released, probably 4th quarter 2014. Of course, there's always the possibility of some crazy event affecting the norm... but I wouldn't count on it.
Phone is already cheap for what you get. Check out the Moto G for $200.

I am fine with paying $349.That is a great price for the phone. What I am trying to decide is whether to purchase it now or wait for February when I will actually get to use the phone. I want to purchase it now, so that I can have it already. However, if it it might get reduced between now and then, it would be wise to wait. In the past have the prices stayed constant until the new model came out?

I just emailed them to get a update seeing how they made one for the nexus 6 and low and behold look at this. Just received it this morning. I will be patient and will not buy another case. Hopefully this brings good news to all.

Why do companies like this wait for so long to release this? If they had it within the first 2 months or so I would have for sure bought it, but at this point whenever it really comes in not so sure. Coming from a nexus nerd I'll have to get the new one that's probably 5ish months away based on typical releases.

Yep, seems to be DOA...
By the time they release it I'm gonna have a note 6 or nexus 6p.2 or nexus 7(?)
I guess you right.. just when you wanna get comfortable and stay with one phone.
Does anyone else make a product similar?
How much thickness does it add? Maybe there's a picture somewhere online of say a Nexus 5 with and without?
How does it actually work? Does it just charge your internal battery or does it somehow switch off internal and use external battery?
Now they are saying July
https://twitter.com/zero_lemon/status/730314346438369280
Atr this point, i give up. Just need a company to make a small battery pack I guess.
they did this with the 6, I think the case was released a month or so before the 6p was announced. it was a good case though

We finally have a date july 15th. I have been watching this so closely and I hope its made really well and works well. I will be ordering it day one.
