[Q] [xoom2] rooting and custom firmware - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day one and all, kinda new at this posting stuff on forums so if i get anything wrong please bear with me.
I am a uk user of the xoom 2 (love the device), however i am having several issues, i keep finding that the device keeps droping my wifi connection, i have found several fixes but all require the device to be rooted, and there in lies the problem
I have rooted many devices in the past for various people but all through sd card, my xoom 2 has no sd card slot and all methods for it i have found need an sd card.
Does any one know of a way to root the device with out the aid of a sd card as this would be much appreciated.
Also if im going down the road of rooting it i would like to be able to put a custom firmware on it as well as its stuck on version 4.0.4, and would like to get 4.2.2 if possible. due to motorola's lack luster approach for suppling updates for this device.
Also apologise for bad grammer and spelling, but hey not my strong point.
Thanks one and all.

Repair Parts -- SD Card Reader

Hi,
I recently bought a Rogers HTC Dream off of kijiji.ca, from a seller here in Halifax. After playing around for a few days, I have determined that the Wifi and the SD Card reader do not work.
I can live without wifi, that may fix after a ROM flash. My problem is the SD card. My phone will not read any SD card. I have looked around the internet, and i have noticed a few things.
For one, a lot of people seem to think it is a hardware issue. I am willing to resolve this, as I can get a new part for ~$60 on the internet, and can install it myself.
I have noticed in the fastboot that it says S ON (in the same line as 32B, etc). I was wondering if this could be another issue... It has the perfected **** on it...
Anyway, if you need any other info just ask.
And, any help is greatly appreciated.

[Q] Xoom and flash or external hard drives

I am new to the tablet world, I have had xoom wifi for about a week. I bought it to avoid having to take my laptop on deployment later this year. I have about 100gb or more of movies that I want to take with me. I have seen the treads about getting usb hosting on the xoom, which said it was 3g/4g only and it was bricking a lot of devices. I have unlocked and rooted my device I used the one click method. This is all really new to me and I don't understand a lot of it. The only thing I want to know is it possible to hook an external hard drive up to the xoom and if so how to do it. I am sure that I am going to catch all sorts of hell but i am tired of reading threads that I don't understand. Thanks in advance for anyone that helps out.

Just sent my tablet for repair again...

This isn't as much of a venting/rant thread but more of a disappointment thread.
The first time I sent it in was due to an unknown cause and suddenly it seemed the tablets storage got corrupted.
This time around hover was due to countless SODs,
battery drain problems of Android OS (only for me to find out it was a kernel problem after flashing Garyds kernel so thank you garyd for indirectly helping me there)
Corruption of my ext SD card with stock firmware (may or may not have been the tablet but I am laming it since I have a 8gb sd card that is two or three years old and this 16 gig is less than 6 months old)
and a strange error in recovery stating that the XAR folder was missing and can't restore certain things.
Normally things like wouldn't bother me on account I try to fix things myself, but this time I couldn't get any where
I don't like sending things in for repair since I am without the device and most of the time they don't tell you what the problem is.
And in the end I also wanted to say I really enjoy these forums. I come here frequently to see what is being thought up and developed and to see how I can push this great tablet further. Just hope this time around it works on account there is a decent chance I might get an ASUS TF300 Transformer over this D:

SD card not recognized on Xoom

Hi to all, nice if someone can shed some light on the above....
Ever started something you wish you didnt....
Mate wanted to buy a tablet - i told him to get a xoom (had mine ages and it just keeps getting better) anyway, xoom turns up MZ604 and i set about unlocking and getting eos's rom on there (cheers guys - top stuff!)
Anyway before i started im sure the memory card slot was working as i copied all the relevant files to it. Half way though at the rooting point the software complained it couldnt see the card and sure enough it wasnt there - nothing i did could get it working so i reflashed back to stock - still nothing. the mechanism is working fine - tried 3 or 4 cards in there but nothing - tried the said cards in my note and it see all of them. As P***ed off as i am about it my mate is kind of ok. So, can i use the rooting tool from an external usb stick? or does anyone have any insight as to why its decided to stop working???
Thanks to anyone that chips in!
Comfy
Sorted - a cunning combination of software and me being a t*t. Once i reflashed the stock rom for the wifi version hasnt got the sd card enabled. Downloaded the online update and there it is!!
Back to the rooting. Thanks to the 138 or so viewers of this thread....you may all call me a tw*t now.....

[Q] Yeahpad R7 rooting, internal to external sd card swap

Alright. I have done hours and hours of research trying to figure all this out and I just keep hitting walls. I recently bought a yeahpad R7 with android 4.1.1 and it was advertised to have 4GB of internal memory. I went ahead and bought a class 10 8GB tf card that I was going to use with it for a little more extra storage. Well, when I got the tablet I learned that I have system storage with about 1GB and Nand flash storage of 1.16GB of total memory. I was pretty upset that it wasn't the advertised 4gb... not really close. I did my research and found out that I can root it and make the tablet think that the tf card is my flash storage which would give me more memory, so I downloaded some explorer apps from the market, added in the coding in the vold.fstab file and it wouldn't allow changes. I learned that I need to make my external sd card writable in permissions, so I rewrote that coding, and again, wouldn't let me save the file. I then learn that I need to root my whole system so that it would allow changes by using superuser...? I'm getting so lost and confused but I hate to give up! I've searched this forum and can't find anything. I don't want to ask potentially dumb questions, but to me, this one is a real head scratcher. Any help is appreciated.
Mods, if this is the wrong section, please move me around! Thanks!
any ideas?
ok, i just figured out that i need to use usb debugging mode. I'm still doing some reading on that, apparently I skipped that step when learning about rooting and just when into the coding, leading me to wonder why I can't save anything... Or maybe i'm still missing something.
My goal is to have this done before this friday because I'm going out of town for three days, then i'm home for a week then leaving for a week. I just want that extra space and feedom on my tablet. thanks again!
I just tried 3 different one click root programs, none of them would work. Oneclickroot seemed to be the best and most descriptive. It told me that they do not support my version yet. Again, i have android 4.1.1. That version isn't that new, is it? Superoneclick just froze and 1clickroot was just unable to root. This is driving me crazy
Seriously, any help would be nice. Either this has everyone stumped and nobody knows or nobody cares to help.
