So yesterday I was booting on my Motorola Triumph as usual (imagining what it will e like to get my Evo 3d in a couple of months) and it goes to the homescreen, and starts loading the SD card as usual. OK. A couple seconds later it says there's an error with the SD card, it said something along the lines of that there was an error and I needed to reformat it. Now, I have rooted it and I'm running CM7 Heavenly Divine, I've swapped ROMs about a million times, I'm used to errors.
No biggie, so I format it and move on with my day.
The next day, my dad (with a Triumph, UNrooted of course) told me there was something going on with his Triumph. He had been trying to add more music3 onto his SD card, and yet he was getting the same error I was! Just a day apart! What are the chances?!
We both have class 4 Patriot 16gb Micro SD cards that we got on Amazon, and they've been working wonderfully until now. The thing is though, I wonder if it's a littlem ore than coincidence that they both had the same error at about the same time.
We both got our Triumphs about a year ago (or whenever they came out, time has no meaning to me anymore).
So the question is what's up with this? Has this happened to anybody else out there (perhaps spontaneously like my dad and myself)? Anything I could've potentially done wrong? Help me out here guys if you could. Thanks!
For all you people out there who are following this post, I was using my Triumph again today (obviously) and I turned it on this morning and the SD card failed again. I formatted it (again urgh ) and changed back to MIUI in case it was the ROM that was doing it and it seems to be working swimmingly at the moment.
If it decides to not work again or if my dad's decides to stop working again I'll tell you guys. I'd be more annoyed about this, but I'm definitely going to be upgrading to the 3D the second it's coming out. So something like this isn't ABSOLUTELY horrible...
I had that problem when I flashed cm7 reloaded "error formatting SD" , never done it with miui I'm sticking with miui

bad sd card?
Given that you and your dad got your cards at the same time and they are the same make and model, it could be a manufacturing flaw with that batch of sd cards. Have you tried a different sd card (like the 2gb that came with the phone) to eliminate the card as the culprit?
Asus Transformer TF101 16g / 1.5ghz overclocked
EOS 4.2.2 Jellybean / "Preview" version #B185
Kat Kernel #97 / Kat App
I have searched high and low on the issue, some reports of it from other users but no resolution. I would post in development forum but i'm not allowed to as a newbie.
When I insert a working SD card (FAT32) (verified on windows 7 PC, I have tried multiple cards) the notification appears "SD card damaged".
I keep updating the JB ROM and Kat Kernel to latest hoping it will go away but issue remains.
On earlier versions of ROM the SD card in dock was working fine, I have lost track of when the problem appeared because i don't use the SD card reader in dock very often.
I have tried a few tips I found in the forum like blowing air in sd card slot, reformatting card in different ways eg NTFS, doing a block check and fix errors in windows but nothing works.
I have seen others report the exact same problem but hasnt been picked up by developers yet as far as I can tell.
Anyone?
Happened to me. I bought a new card and put the "damaged" card (that worked in Windows but no other OS) in my camera. Both work fine.
I can't explain it but it's probably really damaged.

Thx for reply, i did try like 6 different cards and all the same, I feel sure its a software issue and not card or hardware. The symptoms I found are identical to reports i saw in the EOS4 JB thread but the posters didnt get a conclusive answer either yet, eg

Dear Friends,
Just switched from the HTC Mate 9 to the Sapphire Blue unlocked HTC U11 and am encountering the strangest issue. My Sony 64gb SD card, which is read perfectly fine with just about any other device I've tested on including my Mate 9 says SD Card is corrupted when I boot it with my HTC U11. Anyone else has ever seen this issue?
I've had my SD card for years! It's a Sony. Have used it on Note 3, 4, LG G3, G4, V10, V20, Axon 7, Mate 9, S6 Edge+, S7 Edge and many others and it's ALWAYS worked flawlessly... But why is it doing this only on my HTC U11?
Any help would be appreciated!
Die you try to format it with SD formatted an check again. Maybe there really is something that has been corrupted over the years and is popping up now.

We saw that issue on the HTC10 a lot, seems it started there.
Had the issue myself as well as a lof of others I know and there were also a lof of reports about in the htc threads.
Using SD Formatter and format it with the overwrite option worked for me temporaily.
Sometimes for just for weeks, then for a couple of months. No idea what brings the error back, if its a faulty SD, the phone, the combination of sdcard and windows.
...Oh now that I list all those, TWRP could be the issue @nkk71
Maybe @Sneakyghost has some more ideas.

Not sure you saw that one internal beta changelog from HTC, @j to the 4n - early U11 changelog. They "fixed" unmounting issues there.
That was a major clue actually. I was very happy to see that. It tells us it's not remotely related to the sdcards we use. It's entirely up to HTC to get their drivers and software set up properly.
Not much we can do.
Try running a chkdsk on the card using a card reader

Oh no, didn't know about that, that's great news. Thought my sdcard is damaged, bought a new one and threw my 128GB one away

Have a friend who had the constant unmounts/mounts on the 10, not sure if/how he eventually fixed it, though he did drop his phone several times over, so couldn't rule out a hardware issue either.
But the corrupted sdcard notification sounds similar to what I sometimes see (including me) in MultiROM, eg:

Someone from the team posted that change log a little while ago - was gone again quickly but that one thing about the unmounts caught my attention. I think we would need more info to know for sure that HTC was trying to address that issue. But I'm a bit more cautious now with assuming my card was damaged...

My friend has a completely untouched (ie never unlocked/modded/etc) 10, he *all of a sudden* started getting those random unmounted/mounted notifications, nothing was changed (except the few drops a couple of weeks earlier )
He also saw the OTA update that said something like *Fixed sdcard unmount issues*, ... yay yay  yay :good:
...2 days later: :crying: (yeah still same issue)
Never happened while I was around, so can't really provide any insight, but for sure, one of the OTAs had that comment specifically there, and considering HTC's excellent track record for "descriptive changelogs"
it must have been there for a reason, even if it didn't fix the issue

I've had my card unmounts a couple times already on the U11, but no corruption errors, just the unmounts warning and then it goes back to normal, I have to re do my ringtones and such after though.

I'm just trying to differentiate between the "Corrupt sdcard" notification and the "Unmounted/mounted" notifications, sometimes we may think both are the same, but they're not,
The "Corrupt sdcard" could be triggered by any number of reasons, including a corrupt sdcard, or a sdcard marked as dirty (and I don't have the expertise to say why, but let me just say the *driver in charge* considers it corrupt, true or false is another thing)
Unmount/mount would look to me as if the card is really being physically no longer seen by the OS (whether that's a hardware or software fault, I can't say), that could eventually lead to the above.
But still 2 distinct scenarios

The constant unexpected unmounts cause the cards to go corrupt. That's how I see it.

Eventually, yes, I couldn't agree more.
Have a card constantly unmounting during a write operation, and eventually you'll loose some files, possibly the whole card, it may even be very faulty card, I've had 2 128GB straight out of the box and just bad, you can try to wipe them, nuke them any which way you like, if block 0 (from my perspective) is hit, say bye bye to it.
As I mentioned, I'm just pointing out 2 different problems (which may eventually become 1), the corrupt sd card vs the constant unmounts.
Neither is good for sure unfortunately, but they are still 2 different issues, imho.
Friends,
Very nice to see you all respond and share your experiences and thoughts. I agree with the one poster, this is the Corrupt SD card issue and not unmounting.
While I appreciate all the advice around formatting my card... I feel unsettled about that proposition, especially since every other phone and computer is reading it fine... What's this about? ?
Really disappointing experience from HTC, I was excited to return to them after the Rezound days... But this is a highly basic and disappointing issue ?...

Hello
I had the same problem, I could solved :
1. Retire the microsdxc from your phone and backup in your pc
2. Re insert the card in the phone, when the phone shows " SD corrupted" allow to format IN THE PHONE
3. Then go to " storage" and do a safe eject
4. Again, transfer the files from your pc to the microsd
5. Power off your phone, place the microsd and them power on
Since these day i donĀ“t have more problems with the micro sdxc card
I hope that works for you
Cheers
I had an odd issue. When I got my U11 I put my not so old SanDisk 64gb card in it with no problem. A few days later I purchased a new card and transfered all my stuff over to it. I wanted to change notification sound but when I went to select the new sound my phone went looking for my old card (id 56xxx) with a message something like can't find blah, blah, blah. My new card ID starts with ID 3xxxxxx. Unmount, format anything I tried didn't work. I finally RUU'd back to stock (I was rooted) and all is well. Strange....

That's normal. Sdcard gets a unique number-letter ID assigned by Android. It is created new for every sdcard and it is created new after each Rom flash or RUU (not: dirty flash). Apps set to look in one card will complain when you change to another. Or clean flash and then restore apps with TiBu for instance.
Guys appreciate the responses. But we all agree that there is no way to fix this issue without either formatting your card which is being read right by every other device or apparently RUU ing to stock?

SD formatter V4 from sd association fixes that for me, until it comes back. No card ever works without that. Tried about 5 totally different cards so far.

Thank you for reporting your issue Sir... What a disappointing situation on this otherwise, amazing phone! Hope HTC is aware...!
