I'm soon to be new to the nexus line.
How do you nexus users like to connect to:
1. A TV
2. A monitor
I have visions of building a dock station equipped with ext hard drive, keyboard, mouse and monitor. Most of which just needs the otg cable and an externally powered USB hub (and maybe some resistor games to force which charging mode the phone enables, some research to be done here too). But I haven't figured out the video output portion yet.
Well the 2013 Nexus 7 had MHL support so we can hope the nexus 5 will be the same but if it has MHL support you should only have to buy a usb to HDMI adapter and it should all work fine
According to the leaked service manual, the Nexus 5 will use Slimport, the same as the Nexus 4:

}
It will support Slimport for wired output and Miracast for wireless.

I'd like to play around with USB OTG on my Desire S with 4.0.4 AOKP 35-120511 / 2.6.35.14 Cyanogenmod+ but could flash any ROM. I bought an OTG cable for Galaxy S2 which now I realize probably won't work with DS - Initially it said that the car kit was connected. Now it does nothing! StickMount shows up nothing. Do I just need to attach a powered USB hub?
Anybody else out there have any experience with DS and USB OTG?
Hope you can help me, I did search the forum first and only found a few posts and no real answers.
What worked for me was to use a powered hub and a y cable to connect your device to the Desire, whilst drawing power from the hub. You need to hunt out the correct cable depending on what you want to attach either full size or mini usb.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
this kind of y cable?

Hi.
I want to use a mouse on Galaxy S4, and charge at same time. Do you know some USB hub or something?
Also, I want more... I want to connect my Galaxy S4 to my TV (I already have the adapter), and connect mouse, and charge my phone (so with the adapter to TV it already charge)
you need an USB OTG cable. its basically a special USB Y cable

Thanks TRusselo! It is cheap and easier than I thought
I knew the samsung dock, but 99$ it is simple too much!
charger through the port, mouse through BT.
Would this contraption work?
Would it charge the phone or just blow up the micro USB connector?

Wall adapter + USB A male to USB A male cable + OTG cable + Phone.
My concern is, that the phone will think it's a flash drive (or something like that) and start providing 5V power.
It would work, no problem
Sent from my Nexus 5
I would also say that you should have no problems with your contraption....There is only a certain amount of charge that the Nexus 5 will accept. By now, you have probably already tried it. How did it work? Which OTG are you using? I bought the Analogix Slimport SP1003 a couple months ago. It's one of the best phone accessories I have ever purchased! Watching free movies and TV shows is awesome!
Agree, I have Slimport and it has taken my Nexus5 to a whole new level for entertainment!!
I've never had a problem using a mouse with an Android device before, but for some reason when I connect my Microsoft Arc mouse to my GS8+ the mouse cursor doesn't appear (although it does appear on my Moto X Play). I have a VR headset that is better for watching movies than my Gear VR (puts the phone further away from the lenses), but I need to have mouse control for easy use.
Have your tried using the USB adapter that came with the phone? I put the adapter for my Logitech trackball in it and the cursor came up immediately.
Keyboard works too...

I have the Bluetooth version of the Surface Arc Mouse and it works like a champ with my S8+.
Oops, sorry my response was dumb, obviously you can't use the adapter in a VR headset. ?
Did anybody find a solution to this?
Dear community,
I'm interested in buying USB-C- to HDMI, but wondering if I best can buy the official Motorola ReadyFor USB-C to HDMI or an alternative branche.
As one of the disadvantages is, that you can't charge at the same time when the ReadyFor USB-C to HDMI adapter is plugged in.
I found for instance DINTO USB-C HUB 3x USB to and 4K HDMI adapter, but is that one compatible and with this one I can actually charge and use the USB-C to HMDI at the same time?
It might look to good to be truth? What do you think? I already asked the seller, but they just say, try it, you can always send it back, but I want to avoid that.
