I am on Pranjal's ROM 4.0 based on cyanogen mod 7.2 alpha 9 and i purchased that one from eBay...now sad to say it doesn't support.
When i insert it to my 3.5 in my phone, the headphone icon shows up and not the headset icon.

So the headphones work but the headset doesn't? Or both don't work?
Try plugging in the headset but not till the click sound. Keep them a little bit outside, don't let them make the click sound. Works sometimes.

The standard headphones with 3.5 mm jack work quite well...but dis one,i.e., the headset doesn't....
And i m saying headphones, but i need to get a headset to work...Coz i've got dis internal mic of the phone not working...So when i attend a call, i have to switch on the loudspeaker every time to let the other person hear me.

I guess it could be Cyanogen Mod. Try flashing a froyo ROM.

The G2X disables the internal mic when the headphone jack is used... This means I can't use my car input jack and input channel for speakers for phone calls.
Without the internal mic, the callers can't hear me...
I see no way to enable to internal speaker when the headphone jack is enabled...
This worked perfect on the Vibrant...
This also works on the Nexus One.
Simple software thing that shouldn't be an issue, but is.

I think it depends on the ROM. I used a few that disabled the mic when i used headphones on my N1 too, but most ROMs didn't have that problem.

I think it depends on the ROM too. I used to run my Nexus with MIUI and the mic worked fine while playing through car speakers.
Has anyone lost sound out of the headphone jack.

any ideas what to try?
Works fine for me (running stock).
Try pulling the headphone out slowly while listening for sound. Also have you tried different headphones/speakers?
3.2 stock, headphones working perfectly fine!
isn't muted, right?

Can you get sound out of the built in speakers? are you running stock 3.2? Do you have root?
Working fine for me on my stock unit.
Working fine for me too. I'd suspect you're either muted, or the headphone jack / headphones themselves are physically damaged.
+1 for headphones & speakers working fine one Stock 3.2. As with what everyone else is saying, try to troubleshoot and make sure all of your settings are correct: known working pair of headphones, volume turned up, headphones plugged in correctly, nothing inside the headphone jack (like dust bunny), sound works through regular speakers, etc.
Then if headphones still don't work through your headphone jack, probably something coincidentally went bad around the same time as your update to 3.2.
Good luck and let us know if all goes well or if you have to RMA it..
I can play music from the speakers but when I plug in headphones I hear sound for one second then nothing, this happens with all my headphone that work on other devices.

Sounds like your speaker jack might be bunk. But have you tried to wiggle it while the headphones are plugged into the jack? Maybe the headphone jack has a broken solder joint and if you wiggle it, you can make a connection. If this works, then you know the headphone jack inside is broken.
Then I'd called Asus and have them issue an RMA.

Do you get an indication in your notification area that headphones are plugged in? It should pop up in the lower right the moment you plug in your headphones saying 'Audio jack connected- audio jack is plugged in'.
Bestbuy replaced it for me, YEA no wait.
I have my nokia 5800 headset around here. When I connect it to lg, and play a song, only the low pitch sounds can be heard, like beats and drums, nothing else.
Is there any way to make it compatible with p500?
mostly bcauz nokia uses trs 3.5mm jack while we req a trrs jack XD
The nokia header I have does have trss connector, its connector has 4 contacts, 2 speakers, mic and ground.
If you press the call receive button on your headset you'll be able to listen to songs properly. Can't use it for calls

Hi anand! It worked! But u have to keep the button pressed. And that gave me beautiful bassed sound ( thats nokia), than the crappy sound of the lg earphones. also, pressing the button mutes the mic, so no calls, as u said.
Do u actually know y it works this way?

There is no relation between Nokia and the failure of high pitch sound.
Is this the working ear-phone? Try with some other phone. Else try any other 3.5 mm Ear-Phone with your LG mobile.
Generally all 3.5 mm Jack ear-phones should work. The audio quality may vary but it should work.
I think it should work. Every headset with the same connector as a mobile should work.

If you're talking about those kind of headsets like Nokia's ones , then those wouldn't work on Android .
Only headphones work

Reset/Reflash firmware or Better FLASH XWLA4 ROM..
Now insert the headphone correctly, it should work

try reflashing stock rom, if doesnt works than i suggest to take ur sgr to ssc(samsung service centre)

First things first: Try connecting any other headset / headphone to your R and check if audio is being played through them ?
- If its playing through the headset correctly then your Samsung headset is faulty.
- If its playing once again through the R's speaker then your headset socket's connection with the motherboard could be loose, take it to a service center.
- However you could also try flashing the stock ROM to your handset & check if it solves the issue.
Do update on the progress.

No, we do not have stereo speakers... the Moto G has one speaker and an earpiece, in some devices you can make the earpiece act like a second speaker, but it doesn't seem to work in this device.

Don't the head phone jacks (earpiece) provide stereo if head phones vice an ear piece were plugged in?

Yes, of course the headset is stereo, and other than the low volume (by my standards) the audio quality is quite good. By "earpiece" I mean the handset earpiece used when making and receiving calls in the traditional way.
Perhaps I misjudged the OPs question???
