any ideas what to try?

Works fine for me (running stock).
Try pulling the headphone out slowly while listening for sound. Also have you tried different headphones/speakers?

3.2 stock, headphones working perfectly fine!

isn't muted, right?

Can you get sound out of the built in speakers? are you running stock 3.2? Do you have root?

Working fine for me on my stock unit.

Working fine for me too. I'd suspect you're either muted, or the headphone jack / headphones themselves are physically damaged.

+1 for headphones & speakers working fine one Stock 3.2. As with what everyone else is saying, try to troubleshoot and make sure all of your settings are correct: known working pair of headphones, volume turned up, headphones plugged in correctly, nothing inside the headphone jack (like dust bunny), sound works through regular speakers, etc.
Then if headphones still don't work through your headphone jack, probably something coincidentally went bad around the same time as your update to 3.2.
Good luck and let us know if all goes well or if you have to RMA it..

I can play music from the speakers but when I plug in headphones I hear sound for one second then nothing, this happens with all my headphone that work on other devices.

Sounds like your speaker jack might be bunk. But have you tried to wiggle it while the headphones are plugged into the jack? Maybe the headphone jack has a broken solder joint and if you wiggle it, you can make a connection. If this works, then you know the headphone jack inside is broken.
Then I'd called Asus and have them issue an RMA.

Do you get an indication in your notification area that headphones are plugged in? It should pop up in the lower right the moment you plug in your headphones saying 'Audio jack connected- audio jack is plugged in'.

Bestbuy replaced it for me, YEA no wait.

Car Dock Audio Out

Anyone whose car dock audio port works? Where you can plug the audio cable into the dock and the phone's audio (Pandora) would come out of the car speakers?
If so I'd like to know what ROM you are running. On my GummyCharged GBE 1.5 I have to plug the cable in the phone itself to get audio out to work.
go into settings/dock settings/ there you check off Audio output mode. That should force it to use external speakers. Just a heads up your phone call audio will NOT go through external speakers if you use the line out jack....dunno why >.<
Let me know if you get pig squealing through your car audio....happens to mine regardless of GB rom or Froyo...think it may be ground looping but it works fine through the headphone jack.
Let us know!

I wonder if that external speaker setting will effect Car Dock Home v3 also.
Okay, it now works through the audio port on the dock. I'm not sure if this is the pig squealing you're referring but, but there is a squeal when there's no audio being played, like between tracks on Pandora. But once audio is engaged the squeal goes away.
lol no, for me as soon as I attach it it goes "WEEEEEEEEEEEEE GARBLE BARBLE TSSHSSHHHHHHH" at like 100db >.>
scares the **** out of me hahaha

But do you hear it once music is playing? The squeal is constant for me as well when the audio plug is inserted. Once music starts it goes away, and I'm not talking about the music drowning out the squeal either, it goes away as if another signal takes over.
ya, it would come in and out randomly regardless if music was playing or not. I think its just a pesky ground loop cuz I do not get it when plugged into the headphone jack, only the line-out which shares the power. I'll do more experiments.
ok I just figured something out....the squealing only happens when the car dock mode is on....when I disable it on the phone it goes away. will be doing more testing to make sure it was not placebo
Awaiting for details then, the troublesome sounds I hear are related to the power plug, not the audio plug.
ya, i imagine that too, BUT even with the power disconnected from the port, and only having the audio cable hooked into it and my head unit, I would get the piercing, and i mean PIERCING, squeal. but as soon as I turn off 'car dock mode' it goes away. weird....

Have you tried different car dock apps?
My brother thinks something like this may solve the problem: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-No...7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311182929&sr=1-7
He has a HTC one I will be borrowing to see if it solves the problem.
The audio filter thing took care of distortions when no sound is playing. One thing that does piss me off though is the I'm having to plug the AUX from car directly into the phone instead of the dock since Voodoo sound does not work when not plugged into the phone's audio port and it makes a huge diff in sound quality (with Headphone Amplifier set to 0dB from default -10dB).

[Q] 3.5mm jack problem? Doesnt Detect Headset but works..

About a Week ago My headphone jack just randomly stopped detecting when I had my headphones plugged in. I Tried all kinds of different headphones and ear buds. Nothing works and sound just keeps coming out from the speakers. I then downloaded Toggle Headset 2 from market and I can hear sound from my headphones again! BUT on the top where its supposed to show you that headphones are plugged in, it doesnt. Also changing Equalizer setting with DPS Manager doesnt work because it doesnt know theirs headphones plugged in so things get annoying. I Tried different Roms and Same Thing. So is my jack pretty much effed? or is their hope?
Edit: To Clear things up more, YES I do get sound with Toggle App but Phone still doesnt know headphones are plugged in. Cant Change EQ setting to my liking because of this. >,<
its possible the jack itself could have gotten damaged somehow and not making proper contact with the headphones. try putting some electrical grease(like those $0.99 spark plug grease pouches they sell at auto parts stores). if it then works with that, that means you'll either have to keep using that stuff or get the jack replaced.

[Q] Only one sound channel works with external speakers or headphones

The right channel is the only one that works with any pair of 3.5mm speakers/headphones, i have not tested bluetooth.
The internal speaker plays both channels fine, but with speakers/headphones there is just a VERY faint buzzing/humming in the left one.
Tested Sennheiser CX475, Logitech X-240, JVC Marshmallow, older altec lansing and harmon kardon PC speakers, all with the same result. All of them work as intended when connected to another source.
Running stock 2.3.6 with k0nane's rooted kernel and shabbypenguin's CWM
Not sure if this is a HW or SW problem but i bought the phone on saturday 4/28 so i still have until the 12th for a T-Mo store replacement exchange.
Update: Sound is fine over bluetooth, so it's probably not a software problem, guess i'll just trek to the T-Mobile store again.
This may sound stupid, but do you have the jack plugged all the way in? I had a car aux cable plugged in a couple of times with this phone when it would sort of work, but was not clicked in all the way.
May not be your problem, but it's an easy thing to check.
Yeah, I'd agree. It seems like Samsung headphone jacks are "tighter" than what a lot of other devices are. My samsung hs3000 headphone adapter and the headphone jack on the phone itself, are both much "tighter" than my sony mw600 jack.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking!
Just saying that it's pretty easy to think you're plugging in the headphone plug all the way on some jacks, when really you're not.

Headphone jack buzz

hey guys,
my One S has buzzing noise coming from the headphone jack, and this problem is pretty annoying especially when it's connected to my car stereo. I thought it might be just mine, but it seems like this is a common issue.
i found this video on youtube. I have the exact same buzz from my One S, though perhaps not as accentuated as in this video.
seems like the One X has this problem as well. found this thread at the One X board http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720212
is this a grounding problem in the headphone jack? Beats Audio? what do you guys think?
I've always had this problem with more than one phone. If you charge the phone via USB adapter from the car battery, it gets 10x worse.
This problem only happens when sound is being played back, so when music/video/game sound kick in, it stops. Do you get that noise when sound is being played back?

The buzz is only audible when nothing is playing. Like in that video, when I stop playing music it will be silent for about 2 seconds and then the buzz kicks in again.
I didn't have this issue with other phones
I don't have any buzz, I double checked just to make sure.
Although it might be my headphones, the output is probably not strong enough to play the sound.
It's probably being heard in your car (or in the youtube video) because the output is being amplified.
I'm having the same issue with YouTube and Pandora.

you're right. the issue isn't as noticeable through earbuds. i think that's why many people are saying they don't have this issue. It's still bad though.
I don't know why HTC messed up this part when no other phones seem to have this issue. Makes me sad.
If it's easy to reproduce for you guys, I'd definitely be pushing for warranty replacement.
I do not have this problem at all. On my cheap pair of headphones or on my expensive one. No hum or sound.
the buzz is there, and it also was on my Desire.
Not when playing tho, only when connected and not playing. Not too annoying, always thought it was supposed to be like that.
And no, I have never heard it through ear buds or phones, only when connected to home stereo or car stereo, and if charged through cig-lighter-outlet it amplifies further...

It doesnt effect headphones, only when the sound is amplified. Like when you play music in your car.
Simply because that sound alone is not enough to drive the headphones.

Whether its plugged in to a car or home stereo, its still using the output from the headphone jack. The power output from the jack is the same either way.
I plug mine in to the aux jack of my car stereo daily, and I have no buzz or hum. Do you have your phone plugged in to a power source at the same time? That buzz is usually caused by crosstalk from a poor quality power source.
Or, as I said earlier, it may just be a bad phone.

Well my phone doesnt do it in my headphones. I can't test in car, no aux input.
What I was saying is that, of its buzzing in your car but not on your headphones its because the sound level at which the buzz is at isn't enough to drive your ear buds. But when the car stereo amplifies it its easily driving your car speakers.
