Is there anyway I can talk through the phone's mic and listen with ordinary head phones?
I can do this with pretty much any recent Nokia or iPhone, but the i9000 just seems to ignore normal headphones completely when answering a call.
This looks more like a software thing.
some phones doesn't work like that, you can listen but not talk when using the 3.5mm headphone (without mic)
like my old Palm Treo phones you can only use it unplug, or plug but then your headset will need to have a mic, else it wont work.
the next best thing is Stereo Bluetooth, they all come with a Mic
Not even that much
That's the thing, on the Galaxy S can't even "listen" to the phone call using headphones.

Thank you for your help but...
Thank you for your help, but what I'd really like to do is connect Galaxy to my car stereo's 3.5mm input and answer the calls using the car speakers.
I know that if I used a Nokia Mic adapter, it should work, but CRAP!
This is a way too expensive phone not to do that without the need for an adapter.
I have faith someone will come up with a way to bypass Samsung's stupidity and just leave the audio jack active when in a call.
Also, if I want to use my Sennheiser HD headphones, I can't without putting a crappy adapter between it and the telephone.
if it's for the car, then just get bluetooth for the car, it's by far the easiest way
The easiest way is a 25cent cable
The easiest way is a 25cent cable that does not eat up my battery like BT.
Again, I thank you for your help, but the perfect world would be someone to flip a switch in the phone's software and just make sound come out of it.
You are right; I also had my Hero connected with the 3.5mm cable to my car stereo and when I received a call, I switched my car to AUX and picked up the call, presto! Sound was routed through speakers and mic would pick up my voice perfectly.
Now with my new SGS it just doesn't work! I must leave the cable disconnected and switch the phone speaker mode on to be able to talk. How sh*t is that?
So here I was excited about a 3.5mm jack. Oh well. Just shows to go ya, size doesn't matter.

Hey,
Can you please elaborate on that cable wiring? or where to purchase etc?
I think the best thing is have an adapter with a mic and a female headphones socket to which you connect ANY headphones.
Just a followup on this, my old n95 adapter works perfect.

it's kinda weird. it works and it doesn't.
i have a jvc in-ear earphones and skullcandy lowrider headphone.
when receiving a call with my jvc, audio switches back to the phone's speaker and phone mic won't work unless i unplug the jvc.
with the skullcandy lowriders, call is routed to headphones and phone mic work perfectly.
note: neither of these pairs have an in-line mic, so the mic i am referring to is the one on the phone.

Nokia? Nope... on that thread I posted about the SAMSUNG adaptor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7350178&postcount=22 I use this in the car via the aux port - works perfectly and for £2.95 you cant go wrong.
I am experiencing the same problem, which is very annoying and might keep me from buying Samsung again if they don't provide a fix...

It weird indeed.
I tested an iPhone stock headset (which has the exact same jack as the galaxy S headset, at least visually), and the calls are not ROUTED through the headphones !
A possible explanation for this is that the phone monitors the headphone's impedance: if the impedance is different from the one of the stock headset, then call sound is routed to the phone speaker.
I'm really hoping some developers will come up with a fix or a custom ROM to fix this issue.
i'll post the specs of both headphones for scrutiny when i grt home.
one thing i can day though is that my jvc has 10mm drivers and my lowrider has 40mm drivers. does that even matter?
i'm also gonna try to see what happens of i use my bro's skullcandy asym in-ears.

Any news about this issue?
I am about to throw this phone against the wall because oh this.... Damn!!!!
If there are things which should not be considered "as features", this is one of those...
sorry but it took me a while. first, here are the specs:
skullcandy lowrider
driver: 40mm
freq response: 18 Hz - 20 kHz
impedance: 32 Ohms
Max Input Power: 400mW
jvc HA-FXC80
Driver Unit: 0.23"(5.8mm)
Magnet type: Neodymium
Frequency Response: 8HZ - 25KHz
Impedance: 16ohms
Sensitivity: 103dB/1mW
Max Input Power: 150mW(IEC)
skullcandy asym
Driver Unit: 13mm
Frequency Response: 18Hz - 20kHz
Impedance: 32 ohms
Max Input Power: 30mW
and one more thing i tried...
x-mini max speakers
Drivers: 40mm
Frequency response: 230HZ -18KHZ
Sensitivity: 86db/1mW
Out of all the four, the calls would only route to the skullcandy lowrider. At first I though it might have been driver size, that's why i threw in the x-mini max for the test. looks like there's another factor that's causing this anomaly.
It's definitely soft problem! Because in Nimbuzz software, if you use Nimbuzz-out (same as Skype-out) and i had phone connected to car with 3.5 mm jack, sound went to car stereo, and i was talking using samsung mic. So if they could realize this "feature", why samsung couldn't?
Seen a few posts about bluetooth headsets I would like advise on.
I attend and hold conference calls for work so need to use the mic mute function a lot. Any headset purchased needs to a single click button for mic mute. And its at this point I would like your advise.
Have seen others talking about the following but dont know if they have mic mute.
Sony Ericsson MW600
Motorola S605
What bluetooth headsets could you advise for calls and general walkman style music.

I own the mw600 and can confirm it does have a single button mic mute.
While in a call, simply hold down the "play" button for about 1 sec and it mutes the mic.
As for music ... i prefer less obtrusive setup ... the mw600 is perfect for me ... clip on the unit on my color and just put in the headphones in my ear from around my neck.
Sound quality is amazing ... battery life awesome ... no complaints.

I also own the mw600 from Sony Ericsson. I honestly can't find a competitor that I could claim as good.
I have the Jabra BT3030 and the Jabra BT620s
They both are excellent. The BT620's are over the ear type and I use them with my PC in the house . The BT3030 are unique in that you can plug in any headset to the module . I use it in the car with GPS and music player playing at same time off my Galaxy S (love this phone).
Google both and read reviews. Great products. Have had mine over 3 years.
Vote mw600 as well for this phone.

SonyEricson MW600, had it from my previous phone, loved it and to my surprise when i paired it with my SGS found that it's music controls work perfectly with the default samsung music player. Couple of days ago when i installed winamp and tried the bt controls it brought up winamp player instead of the stock one (just mentioning if someone likes winamp better).
Add to this the caller id feature, great battery life combined with a superb led display and you have the perfect headset. Well almost, i realy miss my nokia headset's vibration feature, but you can't have everything
sorry for the very long delay (holiday)
So from the replies it looks like a one horse race with Sony Ericsson MW600 being the only contender.
thank you for your advise all that replied ive bid on the bay for one.
bought the mw600 two weeks ago and have big problems reconnecting it with my sgs while signal is lost (out of range). Other devices reconnect just fine but not the mw600, every time I have to reconnect manually.
I am using the Jabra Clipper. Does the job. To bad it does not have a display but I also have the mbw 150 with openwatch. I am pretty happy with this setup.

Does great job for 18£ device, including mini-usb stereo headphones.
Mutes microphone by holding volume up/down.
I use the Plantronics Voyager 855 Stereo Bluetooth Headset.
I bought it some years ago. maybe the have a new version. I like it because you can connect it with two devices at the same time and it is some kind of a transformer. if you don't need the stereo capabilities at a time, you can remove the second headphone.
great thing... i love it...

Motorola S9
SE HBH-DS970
Plantronics Voyager 855

Gives excellent sound quality! A bit costly though, but comes with active noise cancellation.

works like a charm!!
I have successfully used over the years a Nokia BH-600 bluetooth headset with various phones (Sony Ericsson, Nokia, iPhone) and now with the Optimus One. Very good sound quality (both receiving and transmitting), long stand-by and talk time, perfect pairing with all the phones I mentioned above. It gets a bit uncomfortable if you wear it for extended periods of time - which you may since it's so light that you forget you're wearing it. 4+ years of usage and still going strong.

I bought the BH-503 last week. The sound was awesome, with every phone except my O1 . There was like a fuzzy sound in the background :/ Does anyone know how to eliminate this? I sold the headset to my friend.

I have one question to those who bought their Bluetooth headphones for music. How do they compare in terms of sound quality to a pair of in-ear headphones? I'm asking because I'm aware that the P500 is a little noisy when using internal ones comparing to a dedicated mp3 player, such as Samsung P3 and I'm curious about either the noise on BT headphones or other sound issues with those. Is the frequency response as it should etc etc?
Thanks.

Personally, I feel that the noise is even worse when being used through a bluetooth headset. I tried some wired Philips headphones which sound great on my iPod, but they feel kind of slightly "screechy" with my O1.
Any wireless device is normally more noisy than the wired equivalent.
I am using a s9-hd copycat from dealextreme and works well.

The Optimus 3d has a different set of connections for the headphone remote to the Desire HD, iPhone and most likely others.
Can you tell me which headphones with remotes work with the o3d? Also if you find a working one, what features does it have? ie. play, pause, rewind/ffwd, answer calls, mic, vol+/-, display?
To kick it off, I tried Beats Audio earbuds which have a working play/pause button but the skip, mic and vol+/- don't work. The remote is full-featured on the Desire HD.
Keen to hear from the O3D community about this. Also is there a software solution to getting them working? Is there a type of headphone remote that works on all LGs?

Yep, I've had good results with Bluetooth remotes but as for wired I haven't found anything with better functionality that play/pause.
I specifically want handsfree. So far none of the wired headphone remotes I've used have a compatible microphone. Was the Optimus 3D built without a capacity for remote controls and handsfree?

Any 3.15 mm jack earphone delivers sound but if any extra features are present like some buttons then they may not work
You can use iPhone earphones with it, and the play/pause button does work (depends on what ROM you are using) but the volume buttons is simply NOT work, due to the fact that the original LG earphones didn't have them. Other functions such as double-click to next song and pause work. The triple-click to previous song doesn't work (It just goes to next song, and then pauses).
funny, because my blackberry earphones have the button and it works perfectly with my phone (except when the screen is off, then it takes about 3 mins to stop/start the music) but then again, i am using aokp milestone 6

You can use any 3.5 mm earphone. As long as it is 3.5mm earphone and in working condition, you can use it with your LG Optimus One P500 mobile. :good:
The sound (bass effects) may vary depends on the sound driver IC in the earphone. But it should work with all the general aspects. Also the stop/play, next song switcher features may not work as from earphone. It requires the Music player apps support + internal apps layer support to identify and do the proper functions.
I think every headset with the same connector as a mobile should work.
