[FEELER][Bounty]Root de la Vega Exynos Port - Galaxy Note 3 General

After a lot of testing remotely I haven't been able to crack the Exynos based Note 3. I currently use KNOX files within the system.img to call to a file on the sdcard as root to install SuperSU and supporting files. The Exynos doesn't seem to have KNOX, at least not yet. It does have a counter like the older Galaxy series had, except there is currently no way to reset the counter.
I am pretty confident that if I had the device I could get it rooted without increasing the counter. Borrowed, donated, gifted.. doesn't really matter.
I am trying to gauge the interest in doing this, are there even that many people on XDA with the Exynos based models?
I don't have a complete list of models that are Exynos based, but you can get a pretty good idea from this;
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/08/15...agon-800-variant-sm-n9005-specs-confirmation/
Post your model info if you have an Exynos based Note 3! Lets get a list started.

Great move.. This is mine in India.

I have one. I already rooted, but would be still interested to see a solution and maybe even a fix for the counter problem.

Hello @designgears
The Exynos model messed up I think, I really tried so many times with your fw's but nothing worked, hope to get it work and get root finally

Is your flash counter still at zero?

I have to thank you mate, you tried many times and worked hard i believe.
When i check on Download mode and when i look in phone's setting section everything seems to be Official.
But i couldnt check the counter while i can not open TriangleAway app. Is there any other method to check counter?

Another exynos user here, I have 2 weeks with it.

The download mode doesn't show knox or binary counters even after rooting the device. I could only see my binary counter at 1, when I've looked into the triangle app.

Although it does not have KNOX status in download mode, after rooting using CF-Auto-Root make KNOX cannot be installed/run in the app. If i am not mistaken it said knox cannot register or something like that...
Beside the counter of course.

As stated in CF-Auto-Root Thread:
" You will need to flash a stock kernel and stock recovery to reset the binary status"
If someone who rooted with CF-Auto-Root were to flash stock kernel and stock recovery and then try to install knox I think that might give us an idea if the root procedure is reversible? What do you guys think?
Edit:
So I now understand that the Custom Binary Count does not revert to zero. Is that all we are missing to get the root full reversible?

Yes, only that part is missing..

I get your point mate so i also think maybe that can be true
but i still have jus to questions on my head which makes me to think about this:
1- some people have rooted their exynos devices. and after that when they flashed back the stock rom and make a factory reset, they still weren't able to launch anything about the Knox app. so if there is not any flag on efuse or somewhere else, how is that possible that the Knox app recognizes the previous root and just refuses to be launched?
2- ok for example now we say that there is really not any flag about knox on our devices. if Samsung updates the bootloader and puts a knox flag, what would happen? i mean if we just flash the new stock fw without root, will still knox recognize the previous root and put knox flag to 0x1 immediately when the new bootloader will be installed?
sorry for my complicated message, but i hope i could explain my questions
EDIT: @designgears on the poll did you voted as Hell No, just curious

I can't speak for the others, but having a root method for Exynos models that didn't carry the risk of voiding the warranty of a $750 dollar phone would be extremely appealing to me.

Chainfire can't reset flash count on i9500 & SM-N900 because of exynos 5.
so. We can't enjoy Root .
Unless someone can provide one way to Root without increase flash count.
Or Someone can find way to reset flash count .

Why you should root your Note 3

To know: You'll lost your warranty if you Root your device. Take that in account before Rooting, because Your KNOX WARRANTY VOID will be set to 0x1!! Think TWICE before rooting.
There are several reasons.
1st, because is a 5 minutes step and you're not gonna lose any data on your Phone rooting.
You can find a great guide on how to root the Note 3 in GalaxyNote3Root.com
2nd, because you'll be able to install great apps like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Titanium Backup
Greenify
GMD GestureControl
3rd, because you'll be able to remove all the bloatware that comes via Samsung and remove the apps you're not gonna use or services that are replaceable by your favorite apps (like Flipboard to Press, or Files to Root Explorer...).
And doing this you'll have a snappy device with more RAM available for you and less background services.
This is a great guide that shows what apps are safe to uninstall or freeze via Titanium Backup.
Nearly everything is freezable, I recommend you to make before anything a Nandroid Backup via CMW and then freeze the services and apps you think you're not gonna use, after a few days if everything is ok, you may uninstall all the services and apps without risk.
4th, because in a short future you're gonna be able to install amazing ROM's as paranoidAndroid and others..
Disclaimer: You're gonna lose your warranty following the present rooting method.
how about OTA update after root, will I still get that?

In other devices you should update without problems, only losing root.
Don't know for sure if Samsung will limit the updates in devices rooted or with the knox not in 0x0..
4th reason is irrelevant.
1st point is also incorrect.
On the note 3 you'll lose knox and the warranty, unless you know of a way ti reset the efuse?

Will you be able to un-root and reset the flash counter to 0 if you have to send your phone back to Samsung under warranty?

first of all thank you for your work i appreciate. just kidding when saying 4th reason is irrelevant, i understood what you mean there. but in your guide i think there should be a warning. yes in a short or long time developers may find a way about efuse thing but it may not be resetable. samsung may have designed it that it only can be set to 1 by hardware. so there maybe a solution like: developers may find a way to prevent efuse to be setted to 1 but can not reset it so devices already with efuse set to 1 may not be recoverable.

If you root and subsequently mess around with your /system partition, you may no longer be able to receive OTAs.
More specifically, you might receive them, but they may fail because they are usually patches and if they want to patch something that you've removed or altered, it's likely it would fail validation checks and abort the process.

Dave

Confirmed: Canadian GALAXY Note 3 SM-N900W8 both Mod-friendly and KNOX-friendly!

Through some flashing process, I noticed that the SM-N900W8, despite multiple flashing, remains under 0x0 status in KNOX
So it is confirmed that the said model is both mod-friendly and knox-friendly.
There are some limitations though which CAN BE FLASHED.
Refer to post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627996 [SM-N900W8 List of KNOX friendly flashing]
THIS IS ONLY FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 3 SM-N900W8 MODEL. TRY THIS ON OTHER VARIANTS? DON'T BLAME ME FOR UNDESIRED KNOX COUNTERS!
Note: In rooting your Samsung GALAXY Note 3, make sure that REACTIVATION LOCK is UNCHECKED under the security options or else the flashing will interrupt. I also recommend having the original fimware as a backup if anything goes wrong. If you did not follow this direction, it will not be my fault if you run into a bootloop or malfunction.
Confirmed: NO NEED FOR THE TELCEL FIRMWARE TO BE FLASHED. Go with the firmware in your device.
I am using my RWC firmware and KNOX wasn't tripped during the process.
What to do?
Get the following files from the links provided below.
FLASH FIRST the ChainFire Auto-Root I have provided. The SM-N900W8's root file will not work in Kitkat, so use the one I provided. After flashing, check your DOWNLOAD MODE and confirm if it is still 0x0 or 0x1. If all is still in success, flash now the TWRP.
Device will be considered FULLY ROOTED but limited by some functions due to the KNOX Secure Kernel.

Hi,
I would like to be 100% sure of what you are saying. I have a i9505 with XXUFNC4 firmware, the towelroot exploit doesn't work.
But if I upgrade to XXUGNE5 german firmware with Kies (or Odin), apply the towelroot exploit, and then downgrade to my actual XXUFNC4 fwm, you can confirm that normally my phone will stay rooted and still working perfectly ?
Thank you.
You'll lose root when you downgrade.

Does anyone know if its possible to downgrade from I9505XXUFNB9 to I9505XXUENA4 without tripping knox?
still no cigar with I9505XXUFNB8
anyone can provide a tip?
Is it possible to return completely to factory again after usijng this method? For warranty for example?
By flashing sotck with Odin?
Thank you!

root for SM-G360T1
There is a developer option to allow for the bootloader to be unlocked. Would that help get this phone rooted? I desperately need a root for this phone.
yeay me too! any updates?

I think that option's only there for the Samsung engineers to update the bootloader and for those who already have root unfortunately, as any changes made to the bootloader without root result in an unbootable device. :/

The kernel still needs to be selinux permissive and a few other variables in the kernel have to be worked around like the other samsung galaxy phones with lollipop 5.1.1

And yes I know the S6 has a exynos possessor and are core prime are qualcomm they are still both Linux base kernels. I'm start looking at other qualcomm base galaxy phones running lollipop 5.1.1 like the note4 and g360 variants compile some info since I won't have my pc for a couple more days but we will have root and custom recovery before Friday who cares if we void the warranty by tripping the knox counter

I would think the engineer bootloader would be unlocked so you could flash anything, not that it really matters I guess though as we'll likely never see one. I did already make an selinux permissive kernel with superuser and edited init file too that I think should've rooted the device. I even tried packing it into an ODIN file and also a flashable zip, but it doesn't let you boot into Android after flashing a custom anything from recovery or ODIN. I'm with you on the "who cares if we void the warranty" thing for sure. Guess I just wanted to make sure I could still carrier unlock it later with a tripped KNOX, as Samsung said I have to wait 90 days before I can do this. Also, I'm sure you already know that there is an official TWRP for the CORE PRIME already: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxycoreprimequalcomm.html I've been looking into how to port it though specifically for the SM-G360T1 lately, as pretty much everyone has reported it as non-functional. I figure if I can get a working custom recovery then, in theory, testing should be a breeze.
Well samsung of course gives Lil support for there low end phones no lollipop 5.1.1 source codes for any of the variants while custom recovery will be great I think without a custom kernel will cause boot loop

I hear ya. Bootloop's not really a big deal anymore though, which is good news for testing. If you get caught in a bootloop just flash my ODIN boot file...or, of course, if you were flashing a recovery when it happened, then just flash the ODIN recovery file. Works like a charm!

Ok I'm going and getting a new laptop today to being work on a metropcs stock root kernel I'm ready to trim the fat off this phone @bogarty I was reading last night and seen a guy on xda made a tmo kernel for the S5 following Aou and unibase github making changes were need be how is work on the twrp recovery going
Sent from my SM-G360T1 using XDA Free mobile app
Well I figured out why the other TWRP file isn't working for people. Looks like someone just compiled it directly from the generic source for all Core Prime phones without really making any changes. Also looks like they didn't add touch screen support, which is why you can't do anything with it. Made some changes to customize it a bit and add touch, but looks like there may be quite a bit more to be done. Have to start from scratch and work from source as the other TWRP is no good. Have to go out of town though today, so can't do it right now.

Awesome! Yes. We really need a custom "deodexed" rom to be made actually, as Samsung phones require this in order to run the Xposed framework.
Is there any way to remove the Security Warning that continues to pop up after root?

Yes. That was the first question I had too. If you haven't already after root, download SuperSU from the play store and open it at least once. Then, download a root browser and use it to go to the "/system/app" folder. Delete the entire folder in there called "SecurityLogAgent". Make sure to give the browser root permission whenever SuperSU prompts you. After that the security message will not appear.

i got confused
now, when u said flash the stock kernal, do u know where i can get it for the metreopcs sm-g360t1 5.1.1
like i said earlier i looked and looked for hrsss and cant find any
Yeah don't go to my threads without looking what forum they're in. I have stuff from s4, s5, sm-g360t, g530t, and A700f. Only thing I have for yall is the trap kernel.
SM-G360T = Tmobile
SM-G360T1 = MetroPCS
Unfortunately I don't even own the device, and I deleted the stock boot.img from my AFH. @bogarty might have one tho. I'm with family right now and not able to pull it for you.
I do however have the stock firmware on AFH if you want a speedy download.

Yes. Just make sure you've updated to the newest firmware. In "Settings/About Device" baseband should say "G360T1UVU1AOFA". Then just go to @ShinySide's root thread and follow the instructions for root. Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62859013

I'm sorry to hear that. Warranty probably won't cover that. Were you paying for insurance on it by chance? It is one of the least expensive phones out there too. Maybe you could pick up another one?

You should try downloading & reflashing the stock firmware in Odin for your specific device model. It's been known to do a true factory reset of the device, which resets the FRP. Just go to:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Search your model number #, click on the most recent firmware in the list, download it and follow the
instructions at the bottom of the download page to flash in Odin.
Also, don't use King Root if at all possible. It's been known to cause security issues in some devices. Just Google "XDA (your device model ) root" & see if there's a better option. Good luck!
I only found a tmobile one will that work for me even tho I have a metro Pcs grand prime?

A quick guide on how to get past the FRP sync-with-the-old-account screen.
- Download and install Samsung's sidesync
- Connect your device on the same wifi network as is your computer
- Device will prompt you to use a browser - chose the default one 'Internet'
- Use the browser to download http://www.unlocksamsungonline.nl/setting.apk, to access the file go to bookmarks>history>download history>setting.apk == install and run it.
- Go to backup & recovery and choose factory reset (If it will ask you for a password, go back and go to 'Security' and setup a lockscreen password and then try again with that password)
- Wait for the reset
- You should be able to get past the sync screen now and FRP should be OFF.
Hope this helps.
I am trying to root my device for the first time (G360T1). I used the full firmware posted earlier in the thread. Then tried to use trapkernel via odin. But ev ery time I try I get a message on the screen of the phone saying "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock". Whats the work around here. I thought flashing to the earlier firmware postedx in this thread would fix it, but apparently not.
Thanks in advance.
