[Q] A strange Failure to boot. - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am having a problem that just cropped up on a Xoom 3g running unrooted, Motorola Jelly Bean 4.2.1. I am using it on wi-fi only, no Verizon account. The unit will get past the M screen and then ususally hangs up when it gets to the screen with the expanding colored rectangles. Sometimes the home screen will flash up for a split second, sometimes with enough time to log in. In either case it is back to the colored rectangles shortly, even if I get it to log in. I can get to the factory reset screen during the boot and do a full factory reset reload the apps and settings. I have done this twice. It works for about 20 or 30 boots and then colored rectangles show up in the middle of a session and its back to the boot problem.
Questions:
Does anyone have a quick answer?
Will rooting and reloading Android help or it is a hardware issue?
Thanks for any help
John

Have tried a full factory reset without restoring your apps and settings to see if the issue persist?

It seemed to work ok with the apps installed for a while. There were a couple which were suspect and I did not reinstall after the factor reset. It could be a problem though. Maybe I will try the reset again with only a couple of apps. I am still undescided on the root and updating the OS.

Hi again.
I did some thinking and now I suspect the Bluetooth connection. I had enabled an app that required BT (Logitech Harmony Hub). I also enabled the BT but not the app after the second factory reset. I did another factory reset and did not enable Bluethooth. The unit has been running flawless as before. I did a little searching on the web and found a guy with an identicle problem but it was not clear if it was resolved.. Does anyone know know if this is a common problem and if there is a solution. I could not find anything elso on the web or in the formum that helped. If this is a persistant problem, I am wondering if a custom rom would help.
Thanks
John

TF700KL stuck on boot screen

Hi guys
Hope you can help me with this one. I purchased a tf700kl from my local store this month and i have a recurring problem.
For some reason when i turn my tablet off it always gets stuck in boot screen when i turn it on again (the one where the silver ASUS logo flashes)
The only way i have succesfully entered the tablet os again is by doing a factory reset. But that only worked until i turned it off again. Then the same problem occured.
Anybody know how to solve this issue?
Its a TF700KL
It asked for a firmware update to 4.1.1 and i installed that
I have installed several APPS on it. Very common and all from Google Play (no unsecure apps)
I would recommend exchanging for a different one whole you still have a warranty. I've never seen any complaints like this. Sounds like it's crashing during sleep.
Alternative is to install minimal apps after factory reset and try to deduce whether it's an app causing your issues or not.
After poking arround a bit with trial and error factory resets i found out that it is the app called Acalender+ that is causing the crashes. hope this helps other unfortunate users out there

Sounds like an awesome app. You should contact the dev with your problem. Most will be thankful for pointing it out.

Apps crashing after first run of Flaki System Cleaner 2 [6039Y, rooted]

Hi, I'm quite stucked in very inconvenient situation. But shortly - I have run Flaki System Cleaner 2 to clean some space on the phone, but it crashed during the process. I was not able to run the program again, so I restarted the phone. It showed message, that it is updating one app and then it starts the system. The problem is, that I cannot run almost any app (including phone or messaging) - it opens and immediately crashes. I thought the problem can be in the caches, so I rebooted to recovery and clean all caches. Unfortunately the problem persist. Does anybody knows how to repair it before I do the factory reset? I'm not much into the factory reset, as I'm only on the hotel wifi, which is slow and has data limits and I need to download maps of the countries I'm going to visit in two days...
Well, I finally ended up with factory reset, which unfortunately didn't solve the problem. So I had to reload factory firmware and redo the rooting and repartitioning process again (and obvioiusly all the app reinstall stuff). It took more than 10 hours (two tries - the first did not finish due to some unspecified reason; maybe it was because of bad resuming process after the internet connection was interrupted in the night), but finally I have my phone working again. So I have a "little" lesson learned and advice for others - never try new things with your phone (even though they worked perfect on other machines), when you are not at home )

Why my S8+ opens every app after updating/installing?

My S8+ started opening automatically every app I install or update from play store. It's really annoying.. I thought I can fix it with a factory reset, but it didn't help.
What I tried:
- Full factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Disable then re-enable play store
- Clearing all data in app settings
What else can I do?
Here's a quick video of the problem right after the factory reset:
I can't see well enough, but I think you phone is updating. What happens after they all update? Does that solve the issue?
For me, it will do the same unless I can get to Play Store, Settings, and turn off "Auto Updates", and sometimes, still then, individually go to the active update list and individually cancel each app before, or as it's updating. It's a PITA

It's not normal at all. I'm using this phone since july and never did this before. Yea after the initial setup finished and all apps were updated, the problem still persist. When I connect to WiFi and my apps starting updating, each one opens. Basically, I'm unable to use my phone when the apps are updating.
I had to turn off auto-updating and now I have to start manually updating my apps...
There are many old threads about this bug, besides wipeing cache noone said anything useful to fix the issue.
Yeah, I have not heard of it, but also have not experienced it. If it is annoying enough, and no more simple solution, I'd return to an earlier backup san the issue, or no backup, do a full wipe and fresh install. Something is definitely corrupted, near as I can tell.
Well, luckily the Oreo update fixed the issue.
Hi Feribox, did you do anything different before the Oreo update? Coz, I'm on it right now and this exact thing is happening.
What's even weirder is it seems the apps never close, I have some apps that suddenly just up and play an ad (these are apps that I did install though) so I don't think it's malware.

Updates stuck at 100%, Gmail does not notify, and other issues.

I am desperate, I can't find the issue here. I have a S10 (Xfinity unlocked on Verizon) , I can't seem to update apps, they get stuck at 100% or 99%, AND some things like Gmail and Instagram do not seem to notify that I am getting messages.
Here's the kicker, I factory reset the phone some 5 times now, and still have the issue. The Reset fixes it for a few days (if even a day) and then the issue starts up again!
the phone was just upgraded to 10, but it was happening on 9 also!
no clue what the problem is ! it kills me! Please anyone have any idea? I even had an authorized Samsung dealer do a "software refresh" and then wiped out the phone again, and I'm still having the same issue..
HELP! please.
thank you

Boot into safe mode, it will only load your system apps and not your user apps. Then try to update your apps, if it works then you know the issue is being cause one of your user apps. Then you just need to identify which user app is the offending app.
It also might be caused by a conflict between various settings or maybe you have some things disabled or turned off that are causing this.

That kinda works.. but again, as said, I have reloaded the phone over and over, and it works fine, until a few days later and stars over.. And updating is not the only problem, Geolocating is slow, sluggish or not working sometimes, Push updates of emails are slower or not happening. just weird things..
I am not sure what it could be! its like the phone is the problem!

Ok, everything I posted went completely over your head, I'll try again.
If it is working like it is supposed to while in safe mode(which is only loaded with system apps and system settings and not any of your user apps or data) that tells you that the issue is caused by some user app that you have installed or something in your user settings. In other other words, it is very likely something that you, as the user, have installed or setup/selected, it is probably not the device. It keeps happening after resetting because you are not changing what you are doing that it is causing it, it is something that you keep returning to after resetting the device. You just need to figure out which user app is causing the issue or whatever settings are causing the issue.
The way to do that will be trial and error. Uninstall one of the apps that you have installed, then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that wasn't the app causing the issue, reinstall that app then choose another user app to uninstall and then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that is t the app, reinstall that app, and so on and so on, etc... Get the picture? When you uninstall an app and the issue stops, the last app uninstalled is probably the app causing the issue.
I suggest resetting the device again. Then, only install one of your usual apps but don't install any others and don't change any settings, use the device a while, if the issue does not occur, install another one of your usual apps but don't install any others, basically, install one app at a time until the issue occurs, when it does, the last app installed is probably the offending app.
Or, if you don't find it that way and you get all of your usual apps installed without triggering the issue during the trial and error process, then you need to go through settings by trial and error. Changing one setting at a time and using the device a while to see if the issue occurs, if it does, it probably has something to do with the last setting that you changed before the issue occured.
Slowly changing one thing at a time over an extended amount with time between each change, will allow you to isolate exactly which app or setting is causing the issue.
Or maybe you need to flash your stock firmware via PC tools to start over with a clean installation.

[EDIT] Phone completely buggy even after full reset (back to locked stock)

Hi everyone,
I noticed that yesterday and today face recognition was not working and was wondering why. I assumed the cam could be dirty so I opened the camera and switched to front cam, the app crashes immediately.
After several tries I restarted the phone and the result is the same...
Not sure if it's a software or hardware problem, can anyone help me debug?
Ok this is getting worse
I updated from Beta 18 to Beta 19 hoping it would fix the issue. After the update even the back cam wouldn't work...
So I assumed there was a software issue. I factory reset my phone and it still doesn't work...
Any ideas please/ I am desperate...

If it is getting worse with beta log an event with it send it to oneplus. And maybe try a older beta again or a different firmware all together. Would probably be your best bet. Just weird your having the issue and so far no one else has chimed in on it
So apparently I now have this issue:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/camera-not-working.771655/#post-20390562
The storage is encrypted despite the factory reset . I will try to factory reset again once I get home (travelling right now)
Not sure how to fix this issue...
I tried wiping Cache, Data and System and doing a full reinstall but I still have the same bugs that seem to come from encrypted storage... Not sure how to solve this, should I wipe storage?
I did the "Format Data" in TWRP which is supposed to format everything and remove encryption and I still have the same bugs:
-Both cam not working
-SMS not working
-Amazon not working
-Youtube not working
etc
I completely erased the phone, used MSM tool to recover it and it still has the same bugs... What's crazy is that I know it's an access issue because one time everything started working again... Until I rebooted and it stopped
I used this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389) to keep the phone uncrypted and I am still seeing the same bugs, I have no idea what to do next...
Very same scenario with mine! Any solution? I also did what u did brother.
i can confirm the same behavior as of three days ago here. downgrading to android 9 (oxygen os still) fixes the rear camera but not the front. youtube starts to behave again. this is a HUGE issue, as my phone is 90% of the time just a youtube client. oneplus support is useless and just keeps going in circles saying to reset the phone. resets and cache clears do not fix this issue.
i've got three other oneplus 7 pros in the house that don't have this issue on beta 19, but they're all the t-mobile version flashed to international. unsure if that's relevant.
