Stylus adjustment - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

1. Is there a way to use an external stylus with the original still in the tablet?
2. Is there a way to add some drag to the stylus without marking up the screen? Like sanding it a bit or adding a substance to the tip to mimic the drag of a pen on paper.
Thanks in advance.

1. Yes. Option in settings / s-pen. Calibration problems possible with some models, look in this forum for thread on the subject.
2. Screen protector?

S-Pen requires an extra press?

Hi guys,
Im coming from a Galaxy note. Ive noticed that S-Pen on Note 10.1 requires some pressing to register an input either it is navigating through the UI or writing. It wasn't like that in Note. I have also noticed that scrolling, if done with s-Pen, is quite laggy and it stutters.
Has anyone else been experiencing the same?
Nope, no issues here. Could maybe be a screen protector issue or pressing the button before the pen is close enough to the screen to register. Turn on the hover for the pen in your settings to make sure the pen is close enough.

I have not applied any screen protector yet.
Hover is already turned on.
The point is that scrolling and navigating the UI is not smooth if done with S-Pen. It has to be pressed quite hard. In case of finger, even a slight touch gets registered. At least that's how I feel.
Just try scrolling / navigating with S-Pen using the slightest of pressure possible.
Another thing! You cant quite flick the screen for scrolling with s-pen like you can with your finger which is bcoz of the same issue i.e., s-Pen requiring extra pressure.

Although I have no issues with scrolling with pen and it just takes a medium to light touch, I prefer to hold the pen in hand and use the little finger to flick to scroll. It feels more natural that way and is probably less wear and tear on the screen.
Try replacing your tip with the completely white one. That might help.

What is the difference between black and white tips

Replaced the black one with the white and situation is really somewhat better. White one is the same as the one I had on my N7000. Black one is more of a sticky nature; i couldn't write fastly with it and scrolling was laggier too. Now it is quite ok.
Thanks!

Question about S-Pen nib/tip

Hello to everyone,
This might seem a dumb question, but here it goes:
I still have the pen tip that came with the S-Pen on my Note 10.1, which is probably the white nib with white tip, right?
I have a screen protector on, and the official Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 book cover.
With the screen protector, should I change the tip to a black one? (black nib)
And the main question here:
What is the difference between the tips? In my tablet's package, there are loads of black nib tips for the S-Pen and only 1 or 2 white ones.
What is the difference between them?
Thanks.
The difference is rubber and plastic.
The white ones are plastic, and slides lightly across the screen with minimal friction.
The black ones are rubber and gives a more "authentic" pen feel, as it is a little more friction to the screen.
As of what you should use; it is a matter of taste. I prefer plastic tip, but you might prefer rubber. Try both and see for yourself

To remove a nib and put another, do I just use the ring-y thing that comes with the nibs?
And if so, do I just pull the nib out of the S-Pen? I'm afraid of breaking it or something... :/

I guess I'll just read the instructions carefully, I remember there was something in the S-Pen section talking about the Nib/Tip changing.
Thanks for your replies though

Cool. And "thanks". Yes - I used the button.
As soon as I get home, from work, I will try to replace my nib (it's getting a bit overused).
I will post here, later on, how it feels and how I feel the usability of each different type of nib.

I have a spigan screen protector on my note10.1. I was using the black nib at first then changed to the white because the black one would drag to much. Its really a matter of what feels better to you though.

s-view flip cover

I just bought the polar pen.. its an awesome pen that built from strong magnets, and its also a stylus. but on my s4 i9500, the strong magnet triggers s-view cover like effect when im pointing the upper left corner of the screen. so if I want to draw and reaching that point, the screen shaping to s-view mode (black screen with clock at the top).
I know I can disable the auto unlock in the settings. but is there a way to completly disable the s-view support??? its extremly annoying

If your phone is rooted, you can browse to your system folder and delete the sviewcoverservice.apk (or something along those lines). Or use TiBu to find the process and disable/freeze it.

[Q] Note 12.2 stylus / screen problems .. help needed

hi ..just got my note 12.2 from pc world .. was actually undercutting amazon so couldn't resist
anyway ... the bottom of the screen about 3 inches in when you try to draw a straight line you get a curved line and in two directions so its almost forming a circle of some kind .. ive just tested my stylus and my girlfriends edge sylus and mine of my note and it is doing the same thing .. however when you use your finger the curving of the lines does not happen ... so its obviously stylus related at this point of the screen only
has anyone run into this problem and do they know how to fix it .... or do i need to take this tablet back to the retailer as faulty ?? does something need to be calibrated ?? i havent seen an option to calibrate
picture attached of what its doing
Are you're using a case that has a magnet? If the answer is yes, take it off.
The Spen uses a magnetic sensor. Anything with a magnet in it will interfere with the pen.

Thank you for your information on that one .. i take exposure would not cause any permanent damage as lots of cases are magnetic ??
of course thats annoying as i bought the case to protect the note .. from possible drop damage and now i cant really use it much when drawing on the note now ... this one has a bluetooth keyboard so was quite nice from amazon
anyway thanks a lot there my girlfriend and i were panicking .. lol
the magnets are a top flap magnet to keep the case shut with the keyboard and i think one at the back that holds the back stand in place
What case is it exactly?

Smart cover

I am hoping someone knows how to get out of that black "window" screen (the one that only shows the information in the window) when on a phone call. I had to press 1 for something and couldn't figure out how to get to the dial pad! I thought I was loving this case… now I am not so sure… my city on the smart screen was correct this morning but now the temperature won't update! I might end up turning off the smart case…

I think I figured out that the black screen came up because I folded the front cover flap around to the back while I was on the phone. I guess the magic works that way, too! Lol!

Yes.Some covers have the magnet so strong it acts from the back side too.
Agree. Get used to folding it flat so the spine sticks out left, and when you lay it flat the magnet doesn't interfere.
Try not to round out or create additional bends in the spine and you will be in good shape.
My other black cover (the other cover vendor in my case recommendations post) is constantly triggering black and the window which makes my gold cover even more sweet.

I am laying it very flat on the back but it immediately triggers the black screen. Maybe because it is still so new. It looks goofy if I talk with the cover open. I know you can talk with the cover closed and that will probably work in most instances except when you want to access other functions while still on the call... Because if you open the cover while on the call problems ensue... I will figure it out...

I figured out what you meant. You have to fold the front cover back in a way that makes it offset to the left underneath. As long as it doesn't meet the back exactly centered it doesn't trigger the black screen. The only problem is that my hand is kinda too small to handle those extra millimeters on the left! Still figuring it out!

You get my poor use of the English language absolutely correct. (No excuse, relatives came over in 1620 so I should know how to write )
It is a learned behavior to get the left offset trick to work consistently

Hi guys,
Do you know if there is some way to customize the smart cover window? Change background, add widgets and so on. I can't find anything like that in settings...

Unfortunatelly there is no options to customize this window, I'm very sad, my previous phone was an LG G Flex, and there was several customization options for this window.
