MindBank - social inovation - Android Apps and Games

Hello xda community.
Me with my college friend developed our first android application which in near future will be available on iOS too. So what is this app about? Did you ever had a piggy-bank where you collected you money?
This application allows users to collect their thoughts in to virtual piggy-bank, share that bank with friends, or exchange it with random stranger. When you creating piggy-bank, you can set hammer time which prevents everyone opening it beforehand. Also when exchanging piggy-banks, you will be able to rate those banks and be rated yourself. The better the rating - the better quality banks you get.
Basically good quality banks will have cool recipes, funny jokes or things that people find interesting. On the other hand - bad quality piggy-banks will contain total nonsense.
I can't post link because I do not have 10 posts on this xda account.

How to make my game popular

Hi,
I created a game Fifty Five that was launched last month but I am having problem telling the users about it so they can try it out and give me feedback
Can you suggest ways to make it popular or seen??
Thank you
Modify the description to actually describe what the game is. Right now it just says, "Enjoy playing a simple and addictive game." and shows reviews... but there are hundreds of simple and addictive games on WP7... what differentiates your game?
Take out the part about the dithered screenshots from the description. It's unnecessary. Most WP7 users are just consumers and might get confused about what you're talking about when you refer to the emulator and such.
Ask sites like wmpoweruser, wp7central, pocketnow, etc. to do a post about it or include it in their "WP7 Apps in Review".
Advertise on xda-devs or one of those Windows Phone blog sites.
Put a link to it in your signature and start participating in xda discussion. Do that at any forum you're active in. If you sound like you know your stuff, people will notice you and check out things from your signature.
Edit: By the way, it won't launch on my HD7. It's hard for people to form an opinion who are unable to play it. Clean up the code, make it compatible with all devices, and you'll see an increase in exposure.
If you scroll down it will shows the features and thanks for the tips
But I think it is hard to get a review on these sites because I tried and they told me they have many apps to be reviewed before mine and that reviewing my game is not guaranteed
Put the description of the game at the beginning of the app description. Get your friends to download the game and give it a good review. Post at several forums about it. Create a website for support/info and include good meta tags to attract Google searches for people looking for WP7 games.
Not a bad game but also not the type most people would pay for... More the type that should be ad-supported.

Build a name for yourself with a free game or two. Free games get reviewed by bloggers and other people.
You need to establish a reason for people to buy a game for you. I know that on android, the screenshots you show in the listing are very important.
If your first game is paid, it will be hard to get going - nobody has heard of you, few will try it... I have never bought an app from a dev that hasn't released a free one before that - it just seems like buying the contents of a paper bag, without knowing what's in the paper bag, other than what the seller claims.
Once people like one of them, they may try other games from you.
I agree with the consensus. Make an ad-supported version in addition to the trial and purchase versions. I remember reading somewhere that a WP7 developer was making like $400 a day on free ad-supported games.
Thanks for the Comments
I will consider creating an Ad supported version

If I added Multiplayer support and new game modes with bonuses and animations would it be then worth the money
Just a noob's input here, but think about getting a YouTube demo put together. Personally speaking, I've bought a few apps just based on a decent video demo; it gives me a flavour of what the game is all about and what the gameplay is like.
Add some good tags to the YouTube video and it'll turn up in searches.
Free advertising for just a little outlay (in terms of time and effort).

I mean that YouTube accounts are free. By "outlay", I mean your time and effort in producing a video, not meaning any financial cost.

Aslo coming from a noob, I think these are all excellent suggestions. I'd like to emphasize the screenshots aspect-- for me they really make or break my interest in any app, but especially games. Also I appreciate the fact that the OP did not, in fact, turn this into a stealth advertisement for the game but is legitimately soliciting advice. Best of luck with your game!

[GAME]New Pokemon game in development

Hi, everybody, i'm developing a pokemon 2d platform game for android.
take a look at :
http://igg.me/p/307142/x/1796529
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXDFkWrdzdU
please help me make this fan made game a reality,
after its done it will be totally free and free of Ads. :good:
if you can't back me at indiegogo just simply give it a Like and spread the word
The game begins just like in the gameboy color pokemon games, you pick one of bulbasaur, charmander, squirtle or pikachu then justo pass throught level wich are the main scenarios in the kanto region like viridian forest, caves, st anne.
You need to collect coins in order to improve and evolve your pokemon, so you can continue pass the next levels wich are obviouly more and more difficult.
Sounstracks are the originals from the gameboy versions, and art comes from free sources.
If you help me by backing the project at indiegogo.com you can get a special personalized edition of the game with the pokemon of your choice
Wow thats awesome, i have been waiting for this for a long time!! Great work and don't give up!
I will be waiting for the release!

it's good job mr...
I like pokemon...
hehe ..
Yay! A pokemon game! I love pokemon
thanks! I hope the project reaches the goal.
And remember that any sugestion about what you want to see in the game is always welcome.
I really don't see this game ever happening. You're creating a game based directly on the premises of pokemon. The legal issues alone....
WoW great it will be a hit for pokemon lovers

I agree, although this game doesn't have to go to waste. It can still be a good game without pokemon.

I know i can't sell the game or even upload it to google play, and indiegogo.com has the freedom to delete de project anytime, but it doesn't mean i'm not finishing the game, it just means that I wont have a time limit for it. after that I'll upload the game to an independant web just like pokemon tower defense
I played all parts of pokemon on GBA, its very interesting rpg. Developers, go for it!
oh man looks awesome..im a pokemon lover so this is going to be a must have
keep up the great work and hopefully everything works out
Wow amazing! I hope this project will never be discontinued! Anyway, hoping for a beta release soon!
Can't wait!
Subscribed and will help spread this game!

As long as you're not monetizing the application I'm sure you'll be able to put the app wherever you please. It's a nice fan made project. As long as you're using Nintendos copyrighted material in limited circumstances it'll be fine. Maybe switch up the names of the towns/locations would be a good way to go. Your project seems to fall under Fair Use rights. Just be sure to add a clearly written statement within your project and within the Google Play Store stating your fair use rights and your purpose for the project was for education, criticism, and experimentation.
17 U.S.C. § 107
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:
1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.[2]
You'll be fine publishing this piece. If you really feel the need to get a few bucks for your time and effort put into this, or just enough to cover your $25 registration fee to publish it on the Play Store you can take donations.
good job

Add a game to attract downloads?

We have a client wanting to add a game into their app. The app we have developed is for the insurance industry. The client believes by adding a game it will attract more downloads and increase returning users. We are not convinced that adding a game will achieve either. In our view people download an app to get to the point. An app needs to satisfy a direct need i.e. a banking app shows your balance. A game seems like an after thought. We are also concerned that the game will have to of a very good standard in order to attract use and not be ridiculed. With the likes of EA Sports spending millions on app game development this is a difficult area to compete. With this in mind we would consider developing a simply addictive game like Pac Man.
I would love to know your views on this subject. Do any apps exists that have managed to offer a game into a 'sensible' app and made it work?
You should ask your client why their app exists in the first place. Is the app designed to aid users conducting business with the insurance industry? Or is the app designed as marketing in order to draw in more potential customers. It is not a good idea to design one product to do two completely different things, as you will end up not doing either thing particularly well. If the client is hoping to increase their customers, developing a separate game app that is free as a marketing tool would be more feasible, as you would have one app dedicated to conducting business, and another app conducting marketing for the company.
agree

Hi Syung
Thanks for your reply. I totally agree. At the client meeting I suggested creating an additional game app to assist in their aim to reach a new target audience. It nice to have someone back your approach - thanks.

[FREE][APP/GAME][3.0]Inspiring Quotes

Hey fellow friends and developers! As we all know, the play store can be brutal and merciless especially for someone new like me.
My app here had been on the store for nearly 6 months with less than 250 downloads, the visibility is just discouraging and it is akin to being drowned amongst the sea of apps.
I really hope that some of you here might give it a try, thanks for the encouragement and here's the link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ace.inspirationlearner&hl=en
It is an app that serves out inspirational quotes and words of wisdoms from historical figures and prominent individuals in the present. I had painstakingly sought out the ones that are especially meaningful, special and thought provoking.
Stay happy guys, oh and keep coding =).

[Game][2.3+] Street Drift Simulator

Hey there from the Reksiv International team.
Street Drift Simulator has reached 250 in the top new free apps board.
We are a small startup studio in New Zealand with big plans for the future. Our first release, Street Drift Simulator is now available for download on high end tablets and android devices and we would love to hear your feedback.
The app is a free roam drifting game we built over the course of 6 months. After personally spending hours of time scrolling through numerous app stores and review sites with the hope of finding an open world drifting game with quality environments that would push android devices performance to their max, I soon came to the realisation that it currently didn't exist in the scale I had in mind. This led to the initial construction of what would become Street Drift Simulator. This game started development in a very 'not' so serious manner but quickly evolved as I found myself addicted to playing my own creation.
Currently there are 4 different cars available, all of which are based on real cars. (Toyota AE86, Nissan Silvia S13, Toyota Supra and a Nissan R34 GTR.) Each car has unique characteristics such as power level and turbo sounds. There are 6 interchangeable exhaust pipe options, 3 interchangeable spoiler options and 4 different sets of rims available. Aswell as this there are numerous paint jobs available. Only 1 environment named "Downtown" has been created but we have begun development on a second level named "The Docks". After a few comments about the difficulty of the first level for beginners, "The Docks" is being developed with a more open layout in terms of level design.
We will be continually updating this game with extra features regularly as we hope to slowly build a solid fanbase rather than a 15 seconds of fame type exposure. The driving I admit does take some getting use to and we are in the process of making it easier for beginners.
You have the options of an automatic or manual gearbox aswell as button steering or accelerometer/tilt steering. 2 views (close and far) are available but we are leaning towards the idea of an interior camera. 16 hour work days and sleepless nights have, and will continue to be put into this game and we would much appreciate your feedback and opinion of things that we could improve.
Note that you may require a reasonably powerful device or tablet. We will be releasing a mobile optimized version shortly.
We hope you enjoy it.
