[Q] Problems pasting into /system/bin - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I am trying to install a custon recovery program, which requires me to paste a file from the SD card to the /system/bin/ folder.
Have nearly managed it BUT when the new file is looked at it is 0.0 size rather than the original 25.5KB?
When i then try and use the flash_image file it doesn't work presumably as it is 0.0 size?!?
Am i missing something?
Thanks

i think there's a problem with the file. you can try to install a custom rom because all of them have clockwork mod recovery

Installing apk from sdcard in recovery console

I have no market on my phone and have been trying to install some apk's through amon ra console in recovery. Everything I try, which is practically everything i've read from searching, comes back with errors.
Either file/directory not found or can't open "install"
I am also having problems installing the drivers to get adb working from dangerspl. When I try to update drivers it says "This file does not contain information about your device"
Any help is much appreciated. I've been up all night trying to figure it out and feel like I'm going in circles.
Have you try installing from a file manager instead? (astro, estrongs, linda, etc..)
No I don't currently have a file browser installed, and have no market to look up/install one. I have another android phone with astro, could I pull it off of that phone and install on this with recovery console?
Why not just install it via adb or push it to /system/app
I can't connect via adb becuase I couldn't update the windows driver for dangerspl. I downloaded the drivers for dangerspl but when I tried to update, it said it didn't have information about my device. Something like that. So I can mount the sdcard in windows and put any files needed and boot into recovery and use that right? I tried making a zip with the qpks in it and use flash from zip, kinda like installing gapps, but that didnt work either. Any ideas?
Zip files will need the update scripts and signed for it to be able to be "flashed" from recovery.
Just use droidexplorer or android commander.
Code:
mount -a
or type less and read more
You can use busybox if you have the latest CM ROM installed
just type this ~~~> (busybox install /sdcard/yourapp.apk /sd-ext/app)
make sure the app is in the root of your sdcard

Click to collapse
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/yourapp.apk /sd-ext/app
is less typing
and
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/yourapp.apk /data/app
is a 'safer' bet as they didn't mention which rom
what about this one? update.zip creator

which is not a big problem to create.
There is a TUT for it

you need a filemanager with root-rights. Depending on the ROM you use it might be available.
Try the app "IRSSI - connect bot". It gives you a console on the device.
login "local" and type "su".
Than you have superuser rights .... anything on commands you find in linux/android TUTs
Lol! 6 month old post?

[Q] Serious help with Coby Kyros 7015!!

I upgraded to Cyangenmod 2.2 Froyo on my Kyros, but I decided to downgrade back to Eclair. So I wiped/factory reset. And restored my backup with 2.1 Eclair. I was able to root but I was unable to install clockworkmod recovery. And after doing more research I found that flash_image command is not in my system/bin folder so I'm unable to use the command in adb. I tried copying a flash_image.zip which i found on the forum to my sdcard so i could be able to copy it to system/bin but I can't because it's read-only. The only thing i cant think of now is change the permissions on system/bin directory and copy the flash_image file there, but how to do that??? And if that doesn't work what else can I do??
I tried downloading the update.zip from coby and copy the flash_image file into the file since coby removed the flash_image from the new update. When I tried to update from the the update.zip its giving me verification failed. So its impossible to modifiy the update the file without verification failure. And the old update file isnt working either, seems that when you update the to the new update.zip it prevents you from downgrading.
Solved!
I got it. Make sure your device is rooted, and you have SuperUser.
I downloaded Root Explorer, mounted the "system" directory as RW and then change the permissions on the directory, (I ticked everything, basically full access), then did the same for the "bin" folder. Then I copied my "flash_image" file what I got from my old backup and copied it to the "bin" folder.
I undid the permissions and flashed the recovery.img (which installs the ClockwordMod) with adb and then I was able to install the Android Market and Google Apps.
Got it solved on the same day, just didn't have the time to post it.
Please help ( i'm afraid i bricked the coby 7015)
Hi guys !!!
My coby kyros is in permanent bootloop . The only thing I can do is make it enter into recovery mode ( the original from coby stock ) . I did wipe data and cache but when I try to recover from update.zip it fails because I am using a modified version of this update that was intended for rooted devices - ( so in recovery mode it does not work since it needs the upadte from original stock )-
Is there a way to flash the correct update.zip to the coby via Windows XP ADB ( I have tried to use adb shell but it list no devices and I followed all the steps from another post to install the USB drivers for adb and it worked , but adb list no devices ) - HELP PLEASE
Thanks in advance

Hi guys !!!
I resolved my problem simply rebooting the PC and adding an adb push command to copy the correct update.zip in the sdcard

[Q] Madoco CWM 4.0.0.9 back up files not working?

I used the emulator method.... >>
1. Download Recovery 4.0.0.9 from Modaco's website
2. Using Root Explorer, find the file in your downloads folder on the sdcard.
3. Paste the recovery img file into your phone's /data/local folder.
4. In terminal emulator, first type "su" and then type "'dd if=/data/local/doubleshot.clockworkmod.4.0.0.9.modaco.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21" and let it transfer the recovery file.
its goes thru no problem ...everything seems to go ok i can boot into recovery but none of the back up files i create work...i cleaned out 3gigs of space on my sdcard so it wouldn't run out of space during the back up process but still none of the back up files work....had to use a back up file i made with Revolutionary 4.0.0.8....
any thoughts on what the problem could be?
bump......

[SOLVED]Need file System/bin/debuggerd for 4.4.2 update

i need this file System/bin/debuggerd from the 4.4.1, i tried using the krt16m stock image, used this to extract it and get the debuggerd file, used es file explorer and even total commander to replace it, change its permissions to chmod 755 and root shell, but this ota just doesn't install, in twrp still getting error debuggerd file problem, i use stick mount and i dont know why but i deleted the debuggerd.backup file:crying::crying::crying:
Update: I used this which I extracted from 4.4.2 odexed rom from here, I can confirm it is working, just check the sha1sum which should be 1A008709F0945E8EACA2166D143622EB8D94C3D0
Also i used adb commands to push the file from here
Hi,
If that helps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eu2x01fkr11x9rh/debuggerd.
Don't forget to set the correct permissions, like this:

"system/bin/debuggerd" has unexpected contents.
E:Error in /tmp/update.zip

Thank you, it works! Although I had the debuggerd.backup file, renamed it to debuggerd and still failed. But with your file, I upgrade to 4.4.2 successfully. BTW, I use Root Explorer to change the right.
