Need Help rooting and Flashing on Sprint?

Hello. I am sick from school today and decided to make a thread to help out some people.
DOWNLOADS ARE BELOW(AT THE BOTTOM!!!)
All of these steps are posted on TheUnlockr.com in a Video but The video is for the GSM version. The difference is just the recovery image. (http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/)
Ok lets get started.
This method works on all Sprint phones with updates. I am not sure how long this will last unpatched.
First YOU HAVE TO HAVE ADB WORKING!!!
Download my zip file if you do not want to download the entire SDK.
1)After it is downloaded, extract the files to C:\Windows\System32\
(you can copy and past the file-path)
2) Now pickup your phone and go into Settings-Applications and Enable Unknown Sources then from there go into Development and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled.
3) Now connect your phone to your computer and open up command prompt (Start-Run(or search) cmd.exe.
4)When it is open type: ADB Devices.
You should see your'r phone's serial.
Now download flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk (the download is below)
1) Copy the file to your sdcard.
2) Download any File Manager from the android market.
3) Go to your Sdcard in the file manager app on your phone.
4) Press flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk
Let it install.
5) When it is complete, go to your apps drawer and open the Recovery Flasher app.
My method requires you to have a recovery image before root.
6) In the recovery flasher app, Press Backup Recovery Image
7) Let it work. You may have to try twice for Success.
8) Now Mount your phone back on the computer and replace the recovery-backup.img with the recovery-backup.img on this thread(MAJOR thanx to Amon_RA)
9) Now unmount your phone and go back into the Recovery Flasher app on your phone.
10) Now press restore and let it flash recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img(Amon_RA's Sprint custom recovery image)
YOU NOW HAVE A CUSTOM RECOVERY IMAGE!!! WOOT WOOT
the work is still not done.
Download the Superuser.zip(http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=211569&d=1249225060 or in the downloads below) and extract it to your Sdcard
Now go into your new recovery image (power off the phone and then power it on by holding the Power and Home buttons)
Connect your phone to a computer and run command prompt.
IN COMMAND PROMPT TYPE:

mount /sdcard
mount /system
cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/
reboot
(you can copy and past the code into command prompt from the thread)
Download the Better Terminal Emulator app from the market and type:

then...YOU NOW HAVE ROOT!!
now you can install custom ROMs and root-required apps

[Q] Having Trouble Installing Tiamat 1.3.2

I installed ClockworkMod Recovery and I get to the step where I mount the USB storage. On the computer, the storage space is only about 3 mbs. Not big enough to copy the zip file to it. Where I'm I going wrong here? I can't get to the next step which is install zip from sdcard because it comes up to small.

I couldn't figure out why usb storage didn't work right on my computer. I install Rom Manager and got 1.3.2 to install that way. A very nice program. Thanks to all.

Just make sure that you copy the files over from your sdcard to sdcard 2 so they can be seen on rom manager. I was trying to do a restore from rom mananger using a nandroid back up that i created and it wasnt there. Then i went into root explorer and moved the back ups to sdcard2 and waaala LOL.

Big Thanks to everyone in here
I am a total noob when it comes to the Xoom only got mine 2 days ago! But thanks to everyone here I am now enjoying an unlocked and rooted Xoom Kudos to all the devs who made it possible! Great work on the ClockworkMod Recovery by the way and all the instructions on how to do things! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more custom stuff.

i just did the one click root to my xoom and it had Tiamat version 1.1.6.

So after looking around, I have to use a terminal emulator to bring my kernel up to date (V 1.3.2)
I have 2 questions,
1, I'm guessing i can not just flash the new kernel using Clockwork since my xoom doesn't recognize my SD card.
2, I've found the txt i need to enter into a terminal emulator (or so i think) but where do i save the new kernal to? the root of my internal memory? do i leave it zip'd? do i unzip it?

1. Reboot into the bootloader by running:
adb reboot bootloader
2. Flash the boot image to your boot partition, then boot back into Android by running:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
3. Push the bcm4329.ko, scsi_wait_scan.ko, and any other modules to your /system/lib/modules folder and reboot.
adb remount

I have the Kernel zip saved on my 16gb sd card, i did it through my laptop and my xoom doesn't see it... (if that helps or tells you anything...)
any help would be awsome!!

[ROOT] G2X Gingerbread 2.3.3. stock ROM with flashable zip in Clockworkmod Recovery

Update on 9/11/11: Thanks to phburks there is now a flashable zip to root the G2X stock rom. He figured out that the update-binary we were using was not compatible with the G2X. He found the compatible binary that allows us to create flashable zip files. Hats off to phburks. This is an unsigned zip and you should not be required to toggle signature verification. Of course the files required to root the phone (su and Superuser.apk) were created by Chainsdd.
There are two flashable zip packages. The first one roots the G2X. You simply flash it with Clockworkmod Recovery. The second zip unroots the phone for those who wish to unroot their device for whatever reason.
After rooting go to the Android Market and get the Busybox installer referenced below. Use that to install and keep Busybox updated.

HOW TO ROOT
1. Install latest Clockworkmod Recovery using NVFlash, if you haven’t already done so.

2. Download the root zip package referenced above.
3. Put the zip package on your internal or external sd card on your G2X. Do not unzip the package.
4. Turn off phone and boot into Clockworkmod Recovery by pressing volume down and power and hold until the fancy LG (second one) appears.
5. Select install zip from sd card. Select and flash the root zip package. Note: You navigate in Clockwordmod Recovery by using the volume keys up and down and commit the action by pressing the power button.
6. Reboot your phone. You are now rooted.
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING BELOW IS OBSOLETE. IT IS LEFT FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY.

I wanted to run the stock Gingerbread ROM and wanted to root it without flashing a new ROM. I was able to succesfully do it and the instructions are below. I was attempting to make an update.zip to do this but it kept getting a "status 0" error. The original superuser zip by ChainDD also gets this error. So I decided to try and root it using ADB commands while running Clockworkmod Recovery. Here is how I did it. If someone can help me get an update.zip that will install without error in Clockworkmod Recovery to make this easier for people to install it would be much appreciated.
1. Download my G2X root package that includes necessary ADB files (Android SDK install not required) and unzip the contents. The package contains the latest versions of “su” and “Superuser.apk”.

This is for people who have been using the phone after applying the update and don't want to start from scratch again. This lets you just root the phone without needing to flash a rom and format the system.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I got it lol thanks for showing me it from a different angle

still realy no point xboarders is more stable and much faster then stock and all u need to do is flash his rom then go to advanced restore and only restore data ive gotten away with that doesnt always work though

That's a Command Prompt windows on your computer. The easiest way is to open the desired folder in Windows Explorer and then click on the address bar. Highlight the entire location and copy it. Then in your command prompt windows type "cd" a space, right click and paste the copied location and hit return. You will now be in the correct folder in your command prompt windows.

but when i did back up they said error can not back up image data ???

never mind, i found out i run out of space on my sd card

@jboxer, I figured out the flashable zip. Just tested it on an unrooted 2.3.3 installation and it worked perfectly. I PM'd you a link to the zip. Please add it to your OP if you'd like. There's no need for me to create a separate thread.

Thanks to phburks for the good work in figuring out why our update zip packages were being rejected by Clockworkmod Recovery. We now have flashable zips to root the G2X (works on stock GB rom) and to unroot it. They are listed in the first post that I have edited.

ADB issues

Okay, so i trying to push a file to my SGS4G... I thought i got it to work but when i went to find the file it was just some random file with no extension.
e.g. I typed (adb push FFFFFF.FFF /sdcard/download) it says the file was copied but when i go to my phone ffffff.fff is not there, instead a file called /sdcard/download
I followed these instructions....
A:android-sdk-windows installed
B: (on your phone) go to menu>settings>applications>developement and make sure usb debugging is checked.
C: the file you are pushing must be placed in the tools folder of adb so if you are pushing file "build.prop.txt" this needs to be downloaded/copy and pasted in C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
1: go to run and type cmd (or just open your command prompt)
2: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
3: adb remount
4: adb devices *if everything is set up right this should output a serial number*
5: adb push FFFFFFF.FFF /#####/###### *i hope my notes help here you need to put the file name in for the F(s) and in the pound signs you put the destination on the devices example adb push build.prop.txt /system/bin
6. repeat step 3 for multiple files
7. adb reboot this is how you finish

i see you are trying to push a file to your download folder on the sd card...
you can just drag and drop for stuff like this.

true true, not sure why i didnt think of that, i do it all the time... But would i use those instructions if i wanted to move a file say a recovery file to the bin directory?

i have never seen the need to use adb for this phone. it is not a nand locked device, so there is no real use for it (im speaking for users, not devs). if you want to push a file, jsut use root explorer or similar. thats all you need.
also, it seems to me like you are trying to get krylons cwm. just flash bali instead. no need for the recovery file or update.zip.

this recovery is not ported by me, xda's senior member fun_ have ported this to many devices, and we using the one which is compatible with paladin, many many thanks to him, a link to original thread is here
requirements:-
1. a rooted phone, you can root your tab here
2. cwm recovery image which you can get here
steps:-
1. open file manager which can have root access
2. go to system and rename recovery.cpio.img to recovery.cpio.img.bak
3. put downloaded recovery in /sdcard
4. open terminal emulator
5. type su
6. type "inand_flash_image recovery /mnt/sdcard/recovery.cpio.img" (if you have put it in flash then replace sdcard with flash)
7. then boot into recovery by holding menu and power button together or by typing "reboot recovery" in terminal emulator
how to control recovery:-
# power button is used to select options
# menu button will take you up
# home button will get you down when pressed
some notes you should keep in mind:-
1. back button do not work in recovery
2. never try the key test option else you will get stuck
3. backup do not work for boot, xboot, mbr areas
4. do not flash any rom available for paladin, basic etc. devices (or you will have a hard bricked tablet)
a simple step to enable on-screen back button
as soon as you booted into recovery, press menu then home then again menu, a message will appear saying enabled ( can be done in every screen)

dude i followed ur steps, used root explorer to rename to bak, and then tried, i get kcrc32 file size not same. and then when i boot to recovery the whole screen goes berzerk with curtain falls and doesn't do anything. i renamed the bak file into normal and flashed it and got the old recovery.. could you tell me what im doing wrong? used your recovery.cpio.img 3.5mb file in my sdcard... doesnt work..

did the terminal flash the recovery 2 times
like:-

if you get something like above then it is flashed properly

yup i got it twice, kcrc32 not same.
then i entered reboot recovery. thats when the screen goes all curtainfall like a crash, and recovery doesn't load. i had to use the reset pin and power button to turn on the tab again.. perhaps the img is not compatible with my tab?
btw mine is Karbonn Smart Tablet 2.

but when i purchased, it came with android 4.0 ics. everything else is same as in that page..

and I think that's why recovery is not booting

any suggestions mate? perhaps another ainol tab is similar to karbonn st2?

What if there is no "recovery.cpio.img" file in the system folder? This is after having root permissions...nothing has been done otherwise. I do not have a recovery file to rename and am unsure if it should still go in the system folder or not. It doesn't even have a file extension (I had to transfer it to my laptop just to check, and there's no .img or .zip...nothing.)
Also I keep getting the following message in terminal emulator when attempting to run the command:
sh: inand_flash_image: not found. The image file is in the /mnt/sdcard/Download folder. The full instance is:
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # inand_flash_image recovery /mnt/sdcard/Download/recovery.cpio.img
sh: inand_flash_image: not found
