i am trying to unlock my rooted CWM (? 6.0.1.2????) CM9 --- I only use it for on wifi cuz i dont have an account with t mobile although i do have a t mobile sim card of my friends that is overdue and out of service. I have another STRAIGHT TALK phone that uses a sim card so i figured id unlock my sgs4g and put that sim in it to use. i downloaded fb's sgs4g_unlocker_v1.0.zip and flashed-- it worked fine and gave me the code 91317929---- i shut off the phone and put in the straight talk sim card and rebooted. the phone booted fine but the signal bars had an "x" in it--- i went to about phone and it said everything was unavailable-- i opend the sim toolkit app and i pushed unlock--- it ID'd an ICC ID# push ok, gave me an IMEI checksum, push ok then a random number, push ok then it told me to put in the unlock code---- i tried to take a screenshot of this all but was unable to---- i put in the unlock code and when i pushed ok it told me that it was invalid and i only had 9 tries remaining--- well were down to 7 tries now and need help--- when i enter the unlock code is there any characters im supposed to type in also?? like the *, #, etc?? i even installed busybox because that was part of the instructions and i followed em. what is goin on here? FB if u could help out, that'd be OPTIMAL, seein how u created this thing!! i been reading the forums and haven't read about anyone trying to go to the STRAIGHT TALK provider--- could this be whats stickin me up?

I'm no expert, but I want to say you can unlock only with the original carrier's SIM, in this case TMO.

Did you have to unlock the phone to do that?
I called AT&T and they said that they don't have the unlock code since they don't even sell the device, but that it works on sims outside the US. She seemed to imply that it won't work on tmobile but that if I go outside the US, and just put a sim in, it will work without me having to unlock the phone in anyway.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks

Most customer service representatives are pure idiots .... Nexus S is a Google phone , so it's factory unlocked to any SIM card you use with it(you may or may not get 3G on other networks depending on the other network 3G frequencies , and if the forgein network has 3G on 900/1900MHz it will have 3G on this Nexus S)..
Hope this helps..
Well I went to tmobile and the guy put in a sim into the phone and the phone got no reception nor did it seem to recognize the sim at all.
So it seems that it isn't unlocked.
I tried putting in this code: *#7465625#
Its supposed to tell you if the phone is unlocked or not, but nothing happens, it just says: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
I don't need it to work on tmobile, but I do need it to work on foreign simcards. And I saw on other forums that for some people it worked on tmobile and others it didn't so there doesn't seem to be any clear answers.

you have another issue here , check your phone
Thanks for the response.
What do you mean by other issue and how should I be checking my phone?
In any case, I put in a simcard that my brother gave me which I believe is from Mozambique on a carrier Vodacom. It asked for the code of the sim when I put the phone is as always, and so I got in putting in 0000.
It then showed no connection to anything whatsoever, also as always.
Keep in mind I did have wifi on.
Then all of a sudden it asked me to update my phone and install something. So I just said yes and it updated and rebooted.
All of a sudden I have bars here and there and it recognizes that tmobile and AT&T are in the area. I also saw I think at the top of the notification bar when I pull down the notifications tab, it said Vodacom. Of course I get no reception whatsoever but that is expected, this sim was a gophone sim in Mozambique.
Does this mean that its unlocked if it is recognizing another sim, even though no confirmation of reception? I plan to try again with tmobile now and perhaps make sure I have wifi connection while doing so and leave it in for longer.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any thoughts.
what ROM you're on now?stock or costum one ? you also might consider a FULL phone wipe.because this might be caused by a difference between at&t apn or other Sim data and the other .check for that
I'm on stock 2.3 that the phone came with. Haven't messed with it at all.
So I assume you saying that if I want to switch to another sim, I should do full phone wipe then? so that the at&t apn doesn't confuse it?
IF it doesn't work with tmobile again, I will try taht, and I will also try to learn what an apn is.
Thanks for the help.
Might work or might not !!! backup all your data and apps first then use the shotgun method lol
But what I am sure of is that Nexus S phones are always unlocked and SIM free..
I bought a skyrocket and it was locked. then I got the unlock code, it got accepted then once I rebooted the phone it shows the roung circle with a slash in it, no signal bars. I reset the phone and anything but it still shows no bars...any idea what might the problem be ?

Did you set up an APN?
Can you provide more details?
-android version, stock gb, ics, cm9 ect
-have you tried anything else (ie airplane mode)
-apn missing?
There can be a host of issues but with the right key we can get you in the correct direction.
it is all stock. i tried resetting, pulling battery, airplane on/off and still nothing. it worked for a moment when I put the unlock code but when i reboot the phone it stopped showing bars. and i cannot set the apn setting because it says instert sim card...

Did you take the sim card out? The sim needs to be in to be used on mobile networks.
-or is the sim inserted but still cannot set apn?
-cannot access apn menu or apn settings are blank or missing?

Of course the sim is inside and when i go to set apn settings i cannot even emter to modify apn settings because it says insert sim card but the sim is inserted. K also made sure the phone is not blacklisted so that cant be the case. Would rooting and flashing a tmobile radio fix the issue or is bettet just togoto att store and swap it for a new phone?
I didn't realize this was a new phone. Are you going to use it on T-mobile?
In that case, you could try to flash a t mobile radio or t mobile rom. Wonder if the att firmware is regretting the tmobile sim.
having it unlocked seems to trump having to do it all that though....
I'm going to have to do my own research on this. Did you buy code from somewhere b/c i thought att wouldn't provide the codes as I read earlier..... Anyone else have ideas?

You might not need to swap it for a new phone. It might be the sim card is either defective, or there's an issue with the carrier. Did you call the carrier & make sure that the account is set up? I know that these suggestions are obvious, but you often overlook the most obvious.

I bought the phone on craiglist and i got the code from cellunlocker.net for $24.99. the phone is not brand new, but i know it has 1 year warranty so it still is covered. trying to use it with tmobile. will try call them and see if resetting some stuff might help. and the sim has no issues because it works on other phones.
On her stock att sgsII i can view the apns but not edit them. have you tried accessing them with an att sim card? If you can with the att sim that may tell us something. Also there is a general thread on using the SR on T-mobile, anything in there?

Trying to keep the ball rolling until someone more knowledgeable steps in or we solve it. but the ime # and unlock code correlation has me thinking...
Just bought a used Infuse, already have it rooted and running Paranoid Android Jellybean, but I'm having trouble unlocking it. All of my other phones were unlocked automatically when I flashed a custom ROM, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the Infuse. The phone won't detect my T-Mobile SIM at all, even to say "Invalid SIM" etc. Now, I know one of the first suggestions will be "reflash" but at this point I've tried 2 custom ICS ROMs, unofficial CM9, Zeus, and have flashed PA 3 times, and none of them are detecting my SIM or prompting me for the unlock code, which I've already obtained. Is there any way to force the prompt for unlock code, or some other way to enter the code, some way to do it through Odin, or using the PC...just looking for any way I can get it unlocked.

That's news to me. I don't think I've ever flashed a ROM that automatically SIM unlocked the phone as well.
It seems very odd that it wouldn't prompt you for the unlock code as soon as you put a foreign SIM card in it. Have you tried an actual AT&T SIM card in it just to make sure that there's not a hardware issue with the SIM card reader? Also, it may be worth going all the way back to stock and seeing if it gives the prompt.

Like I said, I already have the unlock code. I just can't get the phone to prompt me for it. I read that thread, it's actually the one I used to obtain the code, and didn't see anything that helped with my particular dilemma.

I'm on the latest PA build and I was able to unlock just fine. Is it reading an AT&T sim card? First off make sure that the sim card you are using is actually activated. I just got a straight talk sim card that has not been activated and when put into my phone I was not prompted for the unlock code. I used my sister's T-Mobile sim card and it prompted for it. Make sure you swap them while the phone is powered off as well.

Unless you bought Straight Talk's T-Mobile BYOP SIM card, you wouldn't be prompted for an unlock code. Straight Talk's AT&T based SIM cards will work right off the bat, with an AT&T branded phone. When I used the hex editor method to find my unlock code, I used an old T-Mo SIM card that hadn't been active for well over a year, and I was prompted for the code as soon as I booted the phone up.

It is an at&t compatible sim card, so maybe that is why it didn't prompt, I just thought it was because it wasn't activated.

Still baffled on this, if anyone knows how to force the unlock request screen, or some other way to unlock the phone, I would be very appreciative. Will donate for proper answer.

Go to a T-Mobile store and pick up a prepaid SIM with 10 miniutes of air time. Power down your phone, and insert the SIM card. Power back on your phone, and you should be prompted for an unlock code. Your phone will be permenantly unlocked after entering the code and pressing enter.

Thanks but as I've said I've already tried the standard method.
It seems most likely that its a hardware issue; the phone isn't even reading AT&T Sims, so it might be a lost cause at this point.
Hello, I bought a SIM card from straight talk hoping to use it on my merge because I have seen people online that says I can do that as long as i have my SIM card unlocked. But after I got the card activated and put it in my phone it don't work. I try changing to GSM and using their APN but I have no signal, the mobile network just stays unchecked and I cannot check it. After a few minutes my phone suggests switching over to global mode and i do have mobile signal then but still no connection with anything. I called the straight talk woman and she told me it only works with AT&T or T-Mobile phones but it just don't make any sense to me that you have to have one of those previous carious just to get them as a new carrier? Am I missing something here?

Thanks to the helpful people over at 2fastroms and their quick response I found out that you have to have the 1.06.00.0910 verizon radio flashed to your system. You have to install the radio in the boot-loader and not the recovery menu, it took me a minute to figure that one out. Just informing anyone that has the same problem as me because I could not find it anywhere else on the web. Anyway credit to jianC for the help.
Hey everyone thanks for your help in advance... I just bought my phone and went to T-Mobile to get a new micro Sims card. After putting it in, the phone didn't recognize it. I put in the APN settings and it doesn't save it. This really sucks right now because I don't know what else to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated. And my phone isnt rooted yet, just want the stock for now. Thanks again
Is the sim activated? Sometimes on a new sim it takes a few hours to start working.
I was already on Tmo with an N5. I just moved the sim over and all was good.

What he said. If OP has another phone that uses a MicroSIM, put the sim in that phone and see if it works.
Also did u insert the sim properly into its slot?

I didn't mean the u to be directed to NaterTots but to the OP. Sorry for the confusion.
I screwed up and instead of using my old Sim card and cutting I went into T-Mobile and had them activate a new micro Sim card and put it straight in. The old one is deactivated.
The new micro Sim does work in my old gslaxy S2 phone which used an older big Sim card. Its now using a Sim adapter.

Did you insert the SIM card in the right direction and not upside down? I know thats silly to ask.
to be honest its simple man and actually nothing you needed to make a thread about. Simple go to TMobile store and try an already active sim card. Go to AT&T and see if they can put an active sim card to help you out. Basically go to anywhere that works with a TMobile or AT&T derivative and try it out. Nothing really else we can do to help you on this.
Not try to be rude or anything but its the truth. If none of that works then you may have to RMA. Also maybe find a friend or family member and try their sim . Good luck :good:
Should work. Using my one plus with Solavei (t-mobile based company) and having no issues.

First time i've also put the tray wrong. True story
Just had this problem after coming from using the phone overseas and no signal whatsoever on the phone despite numerous restarts, SIM cleaning, and chats with T mobile. After verifying the APN was correct I went to Settings-->About Phone-->Status-->SIM Status and checked to see if the SIM was connected(it showed my phone number, but was disconnected). So from here went to Settings-->Mobile Networks-->Network Operators and let the phone find carriers automatically. Mine showed T-mobile(with a little SIM icon to the right of it), Verizon, and ATT. I clicked on T-Mobile and it registered and is now working.
Probably saved me $15 at the T-Mobile store. Hope this helps even just one of you.
