Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (7.0) RAM - Galaxy Tab 3 General

I'm asking this question for a friend that has this tablet:
Does anyone know if there's anyway to improve the RAM of the Tab 3 (7.0). Since this is a Linux type kernel can you do swap space like a normal Linux OS or is there something that can be done? I have already rooted the device for him and froze/deleted all the bloatware apps. He is attempting to play Shadowrun returns which requires 1 GB of ram to function properly. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. He is looking for something to do to prevent having to buy another tablet.

Not especially the pc version of that game is better anyway. There is swap2sd and other things to help but the cpu in the 7 inch tab 3 is going to limit how much you can help him.

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought. Told him to go swap it out for the new Asus Nexus Tablet which has 2 gig of ram or a similar model. He went and traded it in last night. Appreciate everyones help.

[Q] upgrading ram

Hi everyone,
I have been reading on these forums and it seems like the developers have done a very nice job with custom roms(got to love opensource community).
I got a g-tablet and was wondering if it is possible upgrade the ram in the tablet. Let me know if anyone has opened there tablet up and have looked at the hardware inside and maybe post couple of pics of the layout of the hardware.
-R
Here you go.
This thread is a good place to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842354&highlight=screen+replacement
Kind of a repost; you just needed a ***bump***
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12108775
Anyway... Yes it is possible.
From what i have heard, g tab got two slots of ram and just used one with the 512kb. The problem here, like i posted 5 minutes ago, is that current roms dont support more ram than 512kb. Maybe with honeycomb release and its requirements we finally get the support for extra ram in our devices.
Cheer for the mods and lets wait a little longer for the honeycream AOSP and a port for g tablet.
It's not two slots of ram it's more like the x-box ram upgrade.
so does anyone have pics of what the ram actually looks like? And is it possible to purchase from the market?

It is *NOT* possible to upgrade the ram, period, end of story.
(yes, it's possible, but if you have to ask, you can't do it. extreme soldering skill required)

[Q] Add DDR Ram to the tf?

As a little hardware project, does anyone think it's possible to add/upgrade the RAM on the tf. I see it as the weakest point on our beloved machine :3 I've thought of 3 options:
1. Add a better stick/another stick to increase size (optimal)
2. Change the DDR2 stick to a DDR3 (Good)
3. Optimize the current RAM, mabye run ram off of flash memory? (okay)
Is this possible? What sort of ram would be needed?

Is yes i see no reason why you can't change the ddr2 1gb to something bigger (i own reflow eq for doing mods like this)
You will need real tools not a easy mod it's a 10 out of 10 for most anyone with a high risk you might destroy your tf101
I have done 8 cable modems 6 routers a few printers and a kendel fire with good results
But i do repairs like this at work every day.
The tools used set me back about 1,900$ US
I have no problems doing the mod for others but your going to have to pay for all supplies and shipping both ways
I have been a server repair tech for 7 years.
Some changes to the kernel might be needed
I have not done this to my tf101 but i did change my tf101 flash to 32GB with no problems had to nvflash to load rom but i had known i might have to
#2
No tegra only works with ddr2
#3.1
Most custom roms do a lot of optimizing to your apps if you reboot and format catch
#3.2
Yes but bad idea it's just way to slow to be any real help
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
darn, because tegra 3 works with ddr3. (tf prime) I don't have sbkv1, so the nvflash to reload a rom if I really mess up sounds a tad scary.. Also my budget is more like 250-300USD not 1900!! That'd be insane, I might as well get an ultrabook at that price
I'll have to settle with trying to tweak the page file a bit, thanks
Is it really possible to swap the ram in the tf101?
I would not say no to my tablet having 4gb of ram hell even 2gb
Anyone can confirm? Or maybe give a little instruction on suitable ram etc?

Technically yes, its possible... but trust me, nobody will be doing it. It is not like changing RAM in a PC, the RAM is literally a single IC soldered directly to the motherboard next to the tegra2 chip.
My soldering skills are average, so that'd be out of my league, I don't want to break it D:

So you could technically put 2-4gb of ram in the tf101?
If you edited things round a little could you also dedicate more ram to the gpu?
I just think its quite an interesting and awesome idea also i get my ram down to 250mb free or lower quite often.

I think he did say you'd need a custom kernel though. So if you know how to compile, go right ahead.
It will also depend on if the Tegra2 can recognize more than 1 GB of RAM. I read somewhere that this is a limitation that the chip will not recognize more, but I do not have the source to know for sure.

How much RAM really?

I have a 7" Galaxy Tab 2 and my understanding was that it has a Gig of RAM, but all my task management apps report a max of just under 700 megs of RAM. I know some is probably locked and reserved for the system but that seems like a lot... Anyone know where the rest has gone?

As you said, it's reserved for system, but if you find too much RAM used, you can click the clear memory button in task manager.
I was wondering the same thing for awhile I thought it was an issue with my tab because on stock my performance was vile compared to how I thought it should perform. Rooted it and flashed today and there is definately an improvement in my benchmarks.

That sounds about right to me. The default system on a lot of devices uses more RAM than you would think. Flashing to a custom rom will definitely help with that. I flashed mine to CM9 last night and I noticed a big difference in performance. I like it even more now.
I think this is a common thing for all things stock android... my JB (4.1.1) Galaxy Nexus phone (takju build) does the same thing... quite annoying really.

What's the difference if it doesn't show you system reserved RAM, or it shows it to you, but it's always fully used?

it would be nice if they would put a notification or something to indicate this in the menu area as most will not know where their ram went & probably complain about false advertising or something.

I ordered this exact tablet last week and it just came in the mail. It's an impressive piece of hardware with very little bloatware out of the box, but Jellybean takes up a lot of RAM by default (1/2 is being used just by the thing being turned on). I'd like to figure out the best method to root it at least, though my ideal goal is to put a ROM of an earlier release of the Android OS on it, I'm quite partial to Gingerbread to be entirely honest since it tends to use a lot less RAM and CPU power to run on similar hardware I've used before.
EDIT: Hopefully someone with actual experience can look into rooting this tablet, I tried using some typical "generic Android tablet root" techniques and nothing is working.
How to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE
Hi. Could anyone tell me how to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE ? I just bought it for several days. There is something wrong for restart after I installed some Apps from Google play and play some of them to change the default settings. Better provide me with ROM of this tablet, My email is [email protected]. Thanks! Jeff
I got kinda suckered into buying one of you too. They were so cheap so I figured why not. My main complaints are that the operating system seems to be the part that's making it so laggy. When it's actually performing a task it works fairly well. I use NHL GameCenter and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the streaming for work. SwiftKey keyboard is really laggy and unusable entirely. Also, Chrome seems to be impossible to use because of the lag. Other than that though everything else seems to run fairly smooth so I think it's more of an operating system issue than power issue. The battery is good it sounds good the screen is OK touch screen works...but if I can't use chrome or watch NHL games,I might have to return it.

Tablet seems to perform fairly well in games but is laggy at times on web surfing. As the previous poster noted Chrome is almost unusable it is so laggy. Video apps seem to perform well after they load up. If an item is being downloaded in the background tablet is very laggy. I tend to agree with the previous poster that the main problem is the operating system. Maybe an update to 4.3 will come soon and improve performance.

Yeah I noticed the background downloading slowing it to a crawl. I think that's an issue with the kernel or memory read speed. There are some tweaks that we will be able to do once a working recovery is available that will fix that. Network speed too. I speed checked it and im getting 35mbs so the issue isn't the WiFi unit itself, its just software. I'm hoping somebody will make a nice custom ROM for us

nothing out yet...it's just the os on it that sucks...just upgraded to 4.2.2 and it even slower...once theres a rom it will eliminate all the bloat in it...just hold on to it and wait...you will not get a quad core for that price...
Its a really terrible a5 based quad-core.. A dual core a9 would run circles around it. There isn't really any bloat in the rom, they didn't do much of anything to it. No custom rom is gonna upgrade the cpu or craptastic generic gpu. If you can return it, go do that. If you can't, I'm sorry, but it's never going to respond like an a9. It sucks that actions is full of lies, and Hannspree bought them, and retailers don't care what they are selling you.

[Completed] Increase RAM without ROOT?

I have a cheap tablet (E-Board HT400) which didn't come with stock root and I couldn't find a way to root it. I've also posted a thread some time ago but I guess nobody can help that.
Anyway I have 1GB of RAM. Even after I kill ALL the tasks and close everything I only have MAX 300MB. Of 1GB... I can't play bigger games or apps. Without enough RAM they just crash.
If anybody knows a good way to get rid of unnecessary apps without root, gaing root for a 4.2.2 tablet or a good way to free up more RAM I would really appreciate his or her help!
Thanks in advance!

It's not the problem in your ram, the problem is in your processor, it's weak. I tested on a couple of phones the same app, on the weaker phones and tablets, it just crashed, on stronger ones it ran smoothly. Android runs each app in a vm, and (i think that each vm is allowed a max of 128 mb.) the ram shouldn't be the problem.
