Original thread in posted in the Sprint Note 3 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476191
This app allows you to easily change your PRL on the Sprint Galaxy Note III (should work on the S4 as well) WITHOUT root! It will call Samsung's hidden menu with the press of a button - no more having to type out things manually using other apps!
This might work on other Samsung devices on various carriers, try at your own risk! If it does work, please contact me and let me know what other devices this works with.
If you like this app, please consider the donate version! I will be bringing some cool features to the donate version!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viper.prlhelperdonate
Compatible Devices (works on STOCK TouchWiz ROM, custom ROMs might not work, won't work on AOSP ROMs):
* Sprint Galaxy Note III
* Sprint Galaxy S4
* Note: Other devices might work, see above.

Reserved

Posted this here because this thread worked for the Sprint Note 3's, it should work here as well. Please let me know either way how it goes! And if you test this on any other CDMA Samsung phones, please let me know your results

Just a reminder, everyone - you must be on a TouchWiz ROM! Stock will definitely work, can't promise that a custom ROM didn't remove the app that PRL Helper needs to open. AOSP ROMs (CyanogenMod, AOKP, etc) will NOT work!

I'm probably done with ROMs in the traditional sense. I really want to focus on the Xposed Framework, truly amazing what they've done with that. MUCH easier to implement updates and cool features, no need to redo all of your apk mods when a new base comes out. In the future, you'll see me put out ROMs with an Xposed module built-in that'll only run on my ROMs

I'm Running SAC's rom and this worked with no problems!!!!! Putting it out there for anybody that maybe a little hesitant to try! Thanks for the app my friend!!! :highfive::highfive:

How do I backup my current 2011 PRL by using this app?

Could this be used to change to a different carriers PRL? I remember back when I had my HTC Evo I could change carrier towers depending on what was around my area.

there are prls out there that force verizon. i use 1337.rpl . (its in these forums somewhere if you search) whenever i am in a sprint dead zone and am able to pick up verizon 3g

Know of any that force 4G?
Thank you for your help

None that I know of. I would be surprised that there ever is one until maybe some day when 4G is is the slower service that 3G is today. I can not imagine the carriers will be willing to sell as roaming to other carriers.

They sell 4G to other carrier as service, so while it may not be a verizon prl update it could be out there.
WIll update this when/if I find something

Sprint and Verizon do not use the same bands for 4G so you won't be able to pick up LTE just 3G on Verizon.

Will PRL helper work if I can't update my prl via the system update route?
Thanks

Dual channel HSPA

Just wanted to share that using the Telus modem on the skyrocket leads to better speeds on HSPA for me. Reason being that the Telus modem has dual channel HSPA enabled so it should theoretically hit speeds of 42 mbps.
The modem can be found here. It is the Telus KJ3 modem.
This would work fine for both Rogers and AT&T users since Telus operates on the same frequencies. Share your experiences below if you try this please!
Thanks! i will give it a go.
Is it just thst radio or other tmo radios as well? i have been using kj7 ...will try the other

Am interested to see the results of your testing. Rogers and at&t don't have dual channel hspa on their network. Bell telus and T-Mobile do.
I use this modem on my device because I am on bell with good results.
However, I also use it as there is no lte in my area. If you use this modem you will not have lte as its not in there.

I don't have LTE in my area anyways so it doesn't matter. Rogers I think does have dual channel HSPA because the galaxy tab or some of the other stuff they sell uses it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
So does this modem support lte?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
Nope they may use similar devices but have the functionality turned off since they dont support it.
I.e. the HTC raider (vivid) check out the specs of the rogers version vs bell both the same except the hspa speeds (21 vs 42)
At the same time. It doesn't hurt to instal it only when you venture into an lte are. For that I keep The rogers/att radios on my SD card so I can just flash them on.

this modem + APN bypass might make LTE unnecessary
I confirmed no lte to lte on this radio
The one test on hspa+ i was able to accomplish before throttling was normal for my area
7down 2up
This is definitely faster at work than norm. this radio also allows me to bypass att throttle

So it works better than the rogers radio as well. I have no LTE in my area so I don't really care about that. Also, is it CWM flashable or Odin?

I have not been using it long enough to see any effect on battery...and that is subjective anyway...usage habits, rom choice, kernel, oc settings etc
We have 7 batteries, so battery life is of no importance to me

Keep in mind, we don't actually have the galaxy s 2, we have the skyrocket version, plus we have att's draconian certification process to get through. I'd love to see it on that date but I'll believe it when I see it.

Actually, with AT&T already giving the Vivid the ICS update, I'd say that this could be pretty realistic.
At least we know if it doesn't come soon, it's not AT&T, it's Samsung.
ICS has not been released for the Vivid. That is someone talking out of turn (a dedicated tester or volunteer tester). That realease would be all over Android Central and our website.

It gives you a notification saying you have an update available, if you want to install it or not, is your choice.
Sometimes you'll even get a text informing you that your phone has an update available.
Another question for the updates, is it only for carrier sold phones? I bought mine at the US but I'm at Israel and I still haven't received the 2.3.6 update.
Very good news, will open development of some nice ROM's. Maybe it will keep me from flashing once or twice a week.
I doubt it. We'll see though, hopefully they surprise.

To throw my two cents in, the fact that SGSII international is getting it soon and supposedly Vivid is getting it now is a good sign for us.
However, I really don't like TouchWiz's overlay of ICS. To me one of the main features of ICS was a revamped and slick look. TouchWiz 4 just kills that. So what do I, personally (and anyone who feels the same) have to look foward to with ICS?
This is coming from an Android noob btw, so if there was extra features besides the FaceUnlock *useless imo* and sleek UI please enlighten me.

The real benefit will be the Kernel getting into the hands of the Devs. In time, they will do many thing with it including a non-Touchwiz version ROM.

From what I understand ICS is completely redone. There are alot of new code and things done different from previous versions of Android. I can understand why nothing has really been released yet. I know there is a couple versions of ICS over in the development section but there are very few things that work.

Nexus S 4G on in Sprint Store ships with ICS?

I was browsing the online stoe today and noticed they have the Nexus S 4G listed as shipping with Android 4.0. Has anyone else noticed this? I've been checking on there periodically and wanted to know if this is new or old. Maybe the ota will be rolling out here soon. *crosses fingers*

What Works:
Data (With workaround, listed below.)
Calls
SMS
GPS
Camera
Torch
Other stuff...
What Doesn't Work:
WifiAP
USB Tethering
Reboot to recovery
Other stuff I'm sure...
Data workaround:
When you first boot JoyOS up, go to Settings>Operators>Access Point Names, and tap the radio button for Sprint. This unfortunately doesn't stick on reboot, so anytime you reboot you have to go back to APN's and instead of tapping the radio button, actually tap on Sprint. This will open the settings for the Sprint APN. Just back out of it and 3G will activate in a few seconds.
Bugs:
Some Chinese here and there.
Home and search keys, capacitive and physical, may stop working. A reboot fixes this. (Rare, only happened the very first time I got it booting.)
Lockscreen may stop appearing when you unlock your phone. A reboot fixes this. (Rare, only happened the very first time I got it booting.)
Sometimes sms' don't show up in the app when received. I don't know why, or a possible fix other than using a third party sms app. If you want to keep the iOS style, I suggest ChompSMS. (This may be an upstream issue with the SMS app.)

Thanks! FYI contacts seems 2 be jacked up. Also, gapps is not included. Google play store fc's, but older market works fine. Look forward to further development.

Can you elaborate on how contacts is jacked up? I never had a problem with the market that's already in the ROM.

I'm not really sure lol. It is pretty nifty, and it was a fun project, the first of 4 I'm working on (hint, they all have "OS" in the name).

Alright cool.

Did I accidentally end up with a developer device?

I just purchased a Galaxy S3 cash from a local guy. Firstly once i removed the stock screen protector I found that the phone had the following inscription just beside the samsung logo to the left side D2-34** other characters there....
It activated with verizon as a "4G test device"
Anyone have any ideas here?

Doesn't appear to be anything special and samsungs only suggestion was to send it in. With its markings they would not guarantee its return.
Verizon won't update its status and I seriously doubt it would be covered by assurion.

Do you install a custom rom before activation?

No it was activated at a vzw location stock during its first power on. They are telling me its how the ESN is listed as a 4g test device.

Well from your screen shot it is running a custom rom and kernel. Did you flash that after you bought it?

Not much we can tell you since we would have needed your previous information before flashing the Rom.
This is awkward

I think that it was flashed prior to your purchase based on the name of the build number... try flashing a stock rom to see if it changes or ask for a refund from the guy you bought it from
Edit....
Restoring my stock image now perhaps that will shed some light on the subject....
Stock
These are the details from the stock rom as it was received. To this point the only thing I had done was gain root access.

I spoke to the guy that sold me the phone. He has filed a request with verizon wireless to get the MEID updated in the system to show the proper device. He is a verizon rep so hopefully they will get this pushed through.
I have a friend who works for HTC and I've gotten quite a few dev phones from him. I was in the same boat once and Verizon corrected the meid number with no issue. It does take 2-3 business days though.
The problem is that the phone goes right to HTC, in my case, and not too Verizon. The phone is never tagged in their system so that's why they have too add it.

who did you speak with to get the phone tagged and added into their system? CS has no idea how to add meid's or esn to the database
Can you help? Didn't speak with with anyone that seemed to be able though the rep I spoke to locally seemed to be able to.

Sounds like this was a phone they had in a Verizon store that had the smart phone dummies instead of real phones. I think sometimes those stores get a complementary model for people to use when they want to see the real thing... maybe this could be it?
