Nexus S 4G on in Sprint Store ships with ICS? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was browsing the online stoe today and noticed they have the Nexus S 4G listed as shipping with Android 4.0. Has anyone else noticed this? I've been checking on there periodically and wanted to know if this is new or old. Maybe the ota will be rolling out here soon. *crosses fingers*

Omg gonna check it out.

I see it listed as 2.3. Maybe you checked the GN.

Not sure what you are talking about, the Site says shipping with 2.3.
http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/sho...&flow=AAL&planSKUId=null&tabId=dt_phones&ptn=

the spec sez 2.3
if you hover on the android it sez 4.0
my money would be on 2.3.7
ITN it's free if you are not a sprint customer
[if you call a two year contract on sprint getting something for nothing...]
fwiw

Yeah I was hovering over the Android and it says Android 4.0...

Never ever ever trust what the sprint website says when it comes to this stuff. It will always be false till you see it yourself. They did this with the epic a few times, saying it was running gb way before the epic got the ota.

Thanks for the info. Like I said I just wasn't sure because it seemed recently updated. Which I'm not sure why it would even be listed like that since I know the ota is handled directly by Google.

Anyone else see Sprint's Google Wallet video for the Galaxy Nexus? They use a NS4G to show Android Beam with a GNex and it was running ICS.

That is strange.
If you look at the Nexus S 4G on the Sprint website
On the left under specs it says ships with Android 2.3
But
If you hover over the Android icon under key features, it says ships with Android 4.0
Hopefully some good news coming our way soon

I just checked it out and it does show Ship with 4.0 for me I even took a screen cap of it!

Next Nexus device headed to At&t! {RUMOR}

BGR reports that the next nexus device will be a lte at&t device with a 720p display, dual core clocked at 1.5 or 1.2 gz and will come will Android 4.0 ice cream sandwhich. The camera is only 5 mp but is beleived to be advanced and shoot very good pics. Hopefully it is made by HTC. It is expected in november to be the premere device for at&t. This device seems worthy of a replacement of my inspire.
If it's nexus I don't think it can be made by HTC because nexusbis made by Google... but I honestly don't think this is real because lte devices are not coming out for ATT for a while. 2013ish

That would be a tough decision!!!! If the phone isn't the Holiday.......... Do I get the holiday, or say the next Nexus which was rumored to possibly LG??? Can't wait for that decision, I will get one and get the other for my wife, then switch back and forth!!!

I get them as part of my corporate discount. But I paid full price for my Inspire, so I am still eligible for an upgrade.
On my first line they are 12 months (mine, of course ). My other 4 lines take about 16 months.

If does get LTE, I say it is a toss up between Verizon and ATT. I would initially think it would be Verizon, as they have not had a Nexus device yet. Then again, neither has ATT except as unlocked devices. They might initially release it on Verizon, then turn around and release it for ATT. Either way, it would be a "killer" LTE device for either carrier, if not both.

Actually, with AT&T already giving the Vivid the ICS update, I'd say that this could be pretty realistic.
At least we know if it doesn't come soon, it's not AT&T, it's Samsung.
ICS has not been released for the Vivid. That is someone talking out of turn (a dedicated tester or volunteer tester). That realease would be all over Android Central and our website.

It gives you a notification saying you have an update available, if you want to install it or not, is your choice.
Sometimes you'll even get a text informing you that your phone has an update available.
Another question for the updates, is it only for carrier sold phones? I bought mine at the US but I'm at Israel and I still haven't received the 2.3.6 update.
Very good news, will open development of some nice ROM's. Maybe it will keep me from flashing once or twice a week.
I doubt it. We'll see though, hopefully they surprise.

To throw my two cents in, the fact that SGSII international is getting it soon and supposedly Vivid is getting it now is a good sign for us.
However, I really don't like TouchWiz's overlay of ICS. To me one of the main features of ICS was a revamped and slick look. TouchWiz 4 just kills that. So what do I, personally (and anyone who feels the same) have to look foward to with ICS?
This is coming from an Android noob btw, so if there was extra features besides the FaceUnlock *useless imo* and sleek UI please enlighten me.

The real benefit will be the Kernel getting into the hands of the Devs. In time, they will do many thing with it including a non-Touchwiz version ROM.

From what I understand ICS is completely redone. There are alot of new code and things done different from previous versions of Android. I can understand why nothing has really been released yet. I know there is a couple versions of ICS over in the development section but there are very few things that work.

Still don't see how these phones are related in terms of updates.

In terms of updates... how? Software, hardware.? Lineup?
I didn't think T-Mobile was launching this phone until the 20th?
At one point I thought I read that almost all of components were the same with the exception of the keyboard (and processor, not sure if the whole S3/S4 confusion was ever resolved).
That being said even with very similar hardware I'm not sure what process is involved with porting the software from another phone. I trust the knowledge and experience of the XDA devs. If they say it's not possible or would be extremely difficult to do even with similar hardware then that's good enough for me.

It would appear it has an msm8260a aka snapdragon s4 krait powering it. Now that this phone is out the likelyhood of us getting the so called ics update is now 0.

One phone being released does not mean another phone will get an update, especially when T-Mobile provided no information. Also, the Relay has a different processor, and internal hardware and software overall. I wish people would stop associating these phones that have never even been examined next to each other.

You're right about it not meaning getting updated.. but these phone are related, like it or not. Sure they have different processors and soft ware... but just like the Vibrant Galaxy S and the Vibrant Galaxy S 4G, they're the same pretty much. Think of it as a "refresh" to the "Blaze" lineup.

Source.? Cause they haven't set a date nor a price.
The relay and blaze are not similar just by adding the QWERTY keyboard will make the source very different not to mention other hardware stuff will be different. iirc the relay doesn't have all four capacitive buttons only has 2 and 1 buttons in the middle kind of like the international s2 but that could be wrong. Either way this doesn't affect our update...it's coming with patience because even if u whine and moan that won't bring the update sooner.

Per T-Mobile's announcement, and I've also spoken to the reps at my local T-Mobile store. They have the phone in stock and are ready to start selling it tomorrow on the 19th.

After seeing all the iphone 5 hype lately, I thought I would have to camp out overnight and then wait a week to get this phone. It's actually a bit anti-climatic to just walk to the T-mo store and buy it off the shelf. Actually, I'll test drive it in the store and probably order it via phone to wheel and deal.
Either that or you might check prices at other retailers. Not sure if they'll carry it right away but shortly after the Blaze came out T-Mobile wanted like $100 for it ($150 with a $50 rebate I think) but I was able to purchase it for $30 at the Target kiosk.

That's crazy. They brind it back out of the blue.
I though this phone was EOL.

It's more then likely web only and not on stores, even EOL devices you can still get online generally for awhile.

I didn't see it on there yesterday but it may only be available only on upgrading a line and not on a new line. Kinda like the Sensation 4G

Sorry, especifically "the source code" for ICS...
They also have the Wildfire S still on their site. Not much for new products. I can't find the g2x now so either we bought them all or it was an anomaly. Do you know if it was refurb? If it's not too much, we should get Hell one for him to put a working copy of ICS on just for a trophy if nothing else.
