Hello xda users
I am new here, and I have some noob questions. I need to know them to feel me more comfortable oO
I have rooted my Sony xperia arc S (LT18i) some time ago. (Gingerbread)
Now I want to upgrade the stock ROM to 4 or higher, but I have some questions:
1st. Do I have to upgrade the stock ROM using flashtool again?
2nd. Do I loose the root acces once I have flashed it? I haven seen this question in other webs, but I haven's seen a clean answer, so I am not sure...
3rd. Is there any android "emulator" on pc to experiment? I have seen some of them, but I am not sure If I can "root" there, or change "roms"
Thanks

Hi. I'm new in hacking devices. My phone is an Acer Liquid Mini with Android 2.2 Froyo and I have some questions:
1. What is the best way to root my device?
2. What is the best ROM that I can find? I want one that can ugrade the OS to 2.3. There is an official update, already?
If it is possible, provide me links with the best tutorials to do that.
3. If something goes wrong, it is reversible?
Thanks for all the answers and sorry about my english.
Got all your answers!

Hey,
1. The best way would be to use "Super One Click". If you want to know the version I used 1.7 for my liquid mini.
2. Yes there was an official upgrade in October I think. I just got it updated an hour ago and I am on top of the world feels like the first time I got this phone, it looks totally new and no acer UI (thank god) but the new UI in place of the old one looks really awesome. Worth the upgrade. Just go to System>Update phone; and make sure you have atleast 410mb free on your SD.It gets upgraded to 2.3.5.
3. While rooting it won't screw up, it never does. (very rarely unless you act smart and remove your battery during the process) Its very safe nowadays to root.
Hope that helped.
hi guys, can you tell me how to install android 2.3.5 or 2.3.7 on xperia x10i?currently running gingerbeard 2.3.3,its my first time here so b nice thankss/
Hi, first go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305945. That's the rooting and upgrade guide for your phone. Also read the New Member's Guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282679. The links in the Guide are awesome. Then you'll want to go to the Android Development forum for your particular phone, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=617.
First you will need to go to the link Which TheContinental posted it has avarious range of how to upgrade root and load custom roms onto your x10 mini. And you will need to go to the x10 part of the forum for more info
Hey guys,
I just purchased a used Asus Transformer off of Ebay and it has arrived yesterday. I'm pretty much an Android noob but to my understanding the Asus has already been Rooted. From the description given on Ebay the device seems to have a Rom called Android Revolution HD (or something) What I want to know is how can I tell if my device has this Rom installed since it looks exactly like the Asus stock firmware? (Just in case this version is outdated or I want to change to a new Rom) I also see that this device also has a custom kernel ([email protected]) My question is, is it possible to return to the stock kernel of Honeycomb? Or is there any recommended kernels out there? Is it possible to flash a new kernel without affecting the Rom or Root? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for helping a noob out!
Did you buy it from someone else?
Wolfbreaks ROM with DoomLord Kernel = Awesome =)
Yeah I purchased off of someone else on Ebay. I did ask him to unroot and restore to factory settings which i thought he did since I'm not too familiar with Android. However after some reading last night I found out that the device was still rooted since it had the app Superuser. That's why i want to know how can i tell if the device is still running the Android Revolution HD Rom or not. Since I don't know if he removed it or not.
You can identify it at about phone or phones detail.. Theres a build number that state your rom

Oh so the build number will indicate if it's a custom Rom or not?
Depends.. Usually itstated what rom you use..

Hello everyone, I'm not sure about which section to post this but, I have read the threads about rooting and going down the ''proper channel'' to root, SE says, if my Bootloader unlock allowed says 'NO', rooting can't be done. I just bought an Xperia Play800i and it says NO.
Is there any way to root it? Also, what is recommended first in your opinion > 1.(Unlock,Root,Flash) or 2.(Unlock,Flash,Root) or 3.(Root,Unlock,Flash).
Many thanks in advance.

sorry but in Samsung galaxy plus (i9001) where i can look to see that effectively is my custom rom installed?
Try going into settings and looking at device info. It may have what rom it is running in there. If not, I am not sure where else you could find that out.
Hey Guys,
I'm new to rooting phones so here goes: I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (LT15i) that comes stock with Android 2.3 GB. Without thinking I would need root access, I did a manual flash to Android ICS 4.0.4. It's working great and everything but now I need to have root access for certain applications that requires it some of which is Avast! Anti-Virus and Firewall.
I have read through some of the forums and it's quite confusing for a first-timer trying to get answers on how to root this phone. As I have come to learn, the version I have is not rootable (4.1.B.0.431) - standard/original Sony issue. Is there someone who is running ICS 4.0.4 on their Xperia Arc that has successfully rooted their phone? If so, how exactly did you do it? Links to the ROM's required would be much appreciated as well as detailed instructions (remember I'm new to this).
If I violated any rules by placing this question in the wrong forum topic, my apologies.
hi guys i'm pretty new to android, i've switched from ios lately.
And my question is that on ios when we jailbreak our iPhones we have something called Cydia where we can install all the crazy stuff (system tweaks, apps that can't be published on the appstore, themes, and a lot of other things).
So i was wondering where can i find something similar to that on android. Is there an app or a list or a thread on xda where can i read the tweak description and install it?
thanks in advance
First of all, welcome to the Android world. In order to better assist you a bit more information is needed. What Device ? What Android version ? What Recovery ? What carrier ? Rooted / Non-Rooted ?
my phone is sony xperia z2 running kitkat 4.4.2 and it's unlocked.
it is not rooted and i haven't installed a custom recovery yet but if i need to do so i don't have a problem.
thanks for the welcome.
The links below should get you going in the right direction. The first link is more of a General get to know Android terms, and such. The second is on how to Flash a Rom, and Root. Again general info. The last two are the Specific Forum for your device, and the Section to look for Roms. I would highly advice spending some time reading, and acquainting yourself with the processes, and terminology before proceeding. Best of luck .
