Anyone have success getting HBO Go to play video on 4.3 roms? I can log in, then see what's available, but when I try to play something I get kicked out. I'm running CM10.2, latest nightly. The Play store doesn't even have a compatible version of HBO Go for my phone, but I have version 2.1.11 running. Any wisdom out there?
The app updated 2 days ago, works now. I think it was a 4.3 problem, but now I'm good to go!

So I'm think the reason there isn't a ROM that can run both HBO Go and Netflix is that HBO Go only works with 2.3.3 ROMs and Netflix doesn't. Am I wrong? The solution seems to be to contact HBO and tell them to get this issue resolved. No clue how to contact them though.

Seems like no CM7 based roms plays HBOGo but play Netflix just fine.
I'm in the same boat as you, it is always either netflix or HBOgo. Would be nice to get them both working.
Accordig to Morfic, the Netflix\HBO issue has something to do with the stagefright lib. Not sure about the details yet, but the library is responsible for audio\video decoding.
Can someone who currently owns one give a summary on the product such as pros and cons?

I just ordered one today from ebay. I like the specs and I can't wait to get it and hook it up. I already run XBMC on a windows HTPC in my living room and LOVE it. The G Box Midnight has an "official" web page here: http://androidtvbox.us/ They have firmware updates in the downloads section.
Now, once I get the device, I will update this thread with my findings. If anyone else has one already, I would love to hear from you.
android review: http://www.totalhtpc.com/g-box-midnight-android-review/
My new G Box Midnight.
Alright, I got my G Box Midnight in the mail yesterday. It came loaded with the newest version of firmware that is on the androidtvbox.us web site. Just in case, I downloaded the latest ROOTED verson and followed the steps to load that version on it. (I like to start from scratch anyways) Once that was loaded and rebooted, the first thing I did was reinstall XBMC for android RC2 (latest revision) then connected it to my network via the wifi. I loaded a couple of add ons for XBMC and tested out "icefilms". It was very choppy. and the voice did not sync with the video. I turned on the eth port and re-tested... same results.
I loaded a few movies onto a thumb drive and ran them through XBMC... same performance... very choppy video and the sound was out of sync. Why would this be? It is from a local usb drive. I loaded the movies into the media center that comes preloaded with the box, and the video played rather smooth. not 100% but close to 98%.
I installed setcpu and checked the CPU settings of the stock kernel. It only allows up to 1Ghz max. So I set it to 1Ghz max and 7 hundred something min and set the governer to "performance". It did not make any difference in the performance of XBMC. It is still very choppy no matter what I do to "up the performance" of the box.
I installed HBO Go from the play store and signed into my account. It is a little slugish to get going, and once I selected a movie to stream, the video was ok, (watchable) but the sound was a little off. (not as bad as XBMC though)
Click here to see a short video I took of the HBO Go performance.
So, from what I found, the box works pretty well when playing video files from usb via the media center app that comes with the box, but XBMC still needs a lot of work to stream movies/videos from the web as well as through a usb drive. I hope they work the bugs out of XBMC for Android soon. Like I said in my previous post, I have XBMC (ver 11.0) running on a HTPC (windows 7) in my living room and it works awesome.
All in all, I give this box a 6.5 out of 10. Once they work the bugs out of XBMC it will be a lot better.
[Update]
Upon reading through the XBMC and XDA forums about the G Box Midnight, I ended up downloading the XBMC v.12 Alpha 6 Pivos apk and sideloaded it. Now, there is no issue with playing all media files from USB drive... and the only issue I have had so far with the icefilms add-on is it gives me a script error when trying to open any media file. Other add-ons seem to work almost flawless. Now if they could only combine the 2 versions of XBMC into 1 working version... this little box would be perfect. (XBMC RC2 for Android is very choppy, but the add-ons seem to work... and the Alpha 6 for Pivos works very well, except for the script errors with the add-ons)
If you have the same issue I have with XBMC, and want to try the alpha 6 version... here is the download link: XBMC v.12 Alpha 6 Pivos

gbox just came out with a new rom here for the version 2.1 and 2.2 boxes. (I have the 2.2 version) that new rom mixed with XBMC RC3 and this box is now running at 99% perfect. I'm still getting some script errors with add-ons (icefilms) but I don't think that is the box or XBMC. (a lot of other add-ons work just fine) I would LOVE to see someone build a kernel for this box, maybe just to streamline it a bit and give us a little tweaking of the cpu... but that is for another post.

what about navi-x?
have you tried that add-on?
Why didnt you read the forum ?
The best working stable release is 12-04-12.
XBMC 12a6 is pretty out-dated. Best results come from the XBMC RC2 mattburris build.
Most add-on delays/problems are related to an outdated librtmp.so and can be replaced by the latest version.
And if you are going for max perfomance XBMC only solution, install the update from Static over a clean 12-04-12.
Last but not least, kernel tweaking does not make sence on the box as it does not run on the full 1.5 Ghz related to the lack of a good heatsink/fan. Im not saying that it isnt welcome, but the problems are mostly related to really bad firmware and the very young releases of XBMC for Android.
Most plugins work on the barebone release, incl. navi,ice,1ch,xot
Have fun
g-box midnight
I bought one to use as a media center for my friends and I. I use a 1tb seagate external and it holds all of the movies and show I wish to play. XBMC has played just about every file I have thrown at it pretty flawlessly

MnCC,
When I started my post, there were very limited posts about this specific device in the forums, and in those limited posts, people were asking for owners to chime in with their 2 cents.
My g-box came with the 12-04-12 firmware version and with XBMC R2 loaded and it performed very poorly. Once the latest release of firmware and RC3 came out, only then did it start to run as I expected. The only reason I backrev'd to XMBC 12a6 was because other users posted in the XBMC forums that this was a lot smoother then RC2.
I am planning on using my g-box for other android apps, like hbo to go and max to go... so installing the xbmc-barebone-android-v0-1a-ultra-slim-ultra-fast firmware/rom is not an option for me, but others might go for it. Thank you for posting that link.
G-Box
Guys, is this device worth buying? What are the pros and cons of it?
Can't find external hard disk in XBMC -Help please!
Hi guys,
I installed the latest version of xbmc on my G-Box midnight with the croniccorey firmware release. It all installed fine, but when I go to add my hard drive through 'add files' it doesn't have any external storage option. Another thread said to 'add from zip file' but no matter what I go into, I can find the 'SDA1' option.
I'm stuck, all help will be much appreciated!!!

Link to Root Tutorial?
I have Just Purchased the Mx2 From Amazon and was curious if it was possible to Boot load a rooted loader in order to Use the Sixaxis Controller app from google play Emulation and my flat screen would make the G Box A much better purchase then it already is
I am running CleanROM 5.5.1 and am having trouble watching Google Play Movies. The show/movie will freeze at the 9 second mark. I've flashed CM10 and Jelly Beans Build 7. CM10 works without a problem. Jelly Beans has the same issue as CleanROM. Reading other threads, it seems to be an issue with the DRM (CM10 removed the DRM so it doesn't look for it). Sprint and AT&T threads suggested using a different ROM. Problem is, I like CleanROM the most. I'd rather not have to flash to CM10 just to watch a tv show or movie. This also seemed to be limited to the GSIII for some reason. Other phones and tablets are not running into this issue.
Therefore, two questions. 1) Does anyone know of a workaround? 2) Is there a ROM similar to CleanROM that Google Play Movies works on?
Thanks!
It's no longer necessary to sideload Kodi.
The Kodi team has created a google+ testing group. Here's the link to the Alpha testing. . Join the group, become a tester, install from the play store.
I had to uninstall the old version before installing through the play store. Backup before switching.
appreciate the heads up.
its doesn't see my adt-1 to install on
Having this officially on Android TV would be cool...
This is brilliant news, downloaded last night, runs like a dream, unfortunately only at 50Hz (see my other post) so you get juddering and not smooth playback but hopefully google should fix this
Did as mentioned in 1st post. but it is not showing up on the main screen
Downloaded...Kodi thanks
It's been a looong time since I set up (xbmc).....anyone have pointers.....like how to go to repositories. ...etc....thnx
I did this a week ago, i had to stop using it because while using Lollirock (which allows volume control) for some reason it shows both android volume and kodi volume when i raise or lower it which is somewhat annoying.
I looked it up and they did this intentionally so android handles the volume now. I wish they would just get rid of the UI if that is the case.
Installing now
looks like it's not on the play store anymore.

You need to sign up for the beta using the links in OP. It shows up just fine for me.
It is working perfectly here
should i be able to install the beta version as per https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/101953908499318548671 on my nexus player?
i signed up to the beta, agreed, got the link and used it to install on my nexus player.
the play store page now says it's installed, but there is nothing on my nexus player.

Sounds to me like you've run out of available space on your Nexus Player. If you try to install an app to your NP from the Play Store via a PC, the PC version of the Play Store isn't technically "local" to your Nexus Player, therefore it has no idea how much available space your NP may/may not have. All it does is process your installation request. Whether or not it REALLLYY is installed or not, the Play Store via PC isn't quite that intelligent yet and has no clue.
I've actually had this same thing happen to me several different times as well. Each time I was out of space and didn't realize it beforehand. Check to see if that may be the problem. :good:
nope, i had around 2GB free.
it eventually appeared on the nexus player about 1 hour later after i clicked install.
having the same problem with ES File Explorer, but as of yet that still hasn't appeared on the nexus player, and i selected to install it around the same time as kodi.
Installed a few days ago on my Nexus 10, works fine. Waiting for my box I ordered from Amazon.
Figured I'd ask since search didn't turn up anything.
I noticed that when I updated Netflix on my phone I can now download movies and watch them offline. It's great but the tiny screen is horrible.
I updated netflix on the tab2 10.1, but don't have this option...
Is our Tab 2, too old? I have SlimKat running on it now, but figured I'd try Marshmellow to see if that worked?
Just seeing if anyone has done it or got it working?
Thanks,
-Nigel
I have CM13 installed & working perfectly well but have the same issue. No offline/download in Netflix.
Interested by any suggestion too.
I have Marshmallow on my Tab 2 and I don't see any way to download movies. Under device, it has 4.12.2 (code 14444) OS API 23. Says model GTP5110 -- it was really a 5113. Seems like Netflix doesn't give precedence to the OS -- it somehow just goes by the device ID. Just a guess on my part.
Hey.
I'm on last Slim6 build and I can download videos from Netflix app!
On gnabo v8, n8013, no joy
