I just ordered one today from ebay. I like the specs and I can't wait to get it and hook it up. I already run XBMC on a windows HTPC in my living room and LOVE it. The G Box Midnight has an "official" web page here: http://androidtvbox.us/ They have firmware updates in the downloads section.
Now, once I get the device, I will update this thread with my findings. If anyone else has one already, I would love to hear from you.

android review: http://www.totalhtpc.com/g-box-midnight-android-review/

My new G Box Midnight.
Alright, I got my G Box Midnight in the mail yesterday. It came loaded with the newest version of firmware that is on the androidtvbox.us web site. Just in case, I downloaded the latest ROOTED verson and followed the steps to load that version on it. (I like to start from scratch anyways) Once that was loaded and rebooted, the first thing I did was reinstall XBMC for android RC2 (latest revision) then connected it to my network via the wifi. I loaded a couple of add ons for XBMC and tested out "icefilms". It was very choppy. and the voice did not sync with the video. I turned on the eth port and re-tested... same results.
I loaded a few movies onto a thumb drive and ran them through XBMC... same performance... very choppy video and the sound was out of sync. Why would this be? It is from a local usb drive. I loaded the movies into the media center that comes preloaded with the box, and the video played rather smooth. not 100% but close to 98%.
I installed setcpu and checked the CPU settings of the stock kernel. It only allows up to 1Ghz max. So I set it to 1Ghz max and 7 hundred something min and set the governer to "performance". It did not make any difference in the performance of XBMC. It is still very choppy no matter what I do to "up the performance" of the box.
I installed HBO Go from the play store and signed into my account. It is a little slugish to get going, and once I selected a movie to stream, the video was ok, (watchable) but the sound was a little off. (not as bad as XBMC though)
Click here to see a short video I took of the HBO Go performance.
So, from what I found, the box works pretty well when playing video files from usb via the media center app that comes with the box, but XBMC still needs a lot of work to stream movies/videos from the web as well as through a usb drive. I hope they work the bugs out of XBMC for Android soon. Like I said in my previous post, I have XBMC (ver 11.0) running on a HTPC (windows 7) in my living room and it works awesome.
All in all, I give this box a 6.5 out of 10. Once they work the bugs out of XBMC it will be a lot better.
[Update]
Upon reading through the XBMC and XDA forums about the G Box Midnight, I ended up downloading the XBMC v.12 Alpha 6 Pivos apk and sideloaded it. Now, there is no issue with playing all media files from USB drive... and the only issue I have had so far with the icefilms add-on is it gives me a script error when trying to open any media file. Other add-ons seem to work almost flawless. Now if they could only combine the 2 versions of XBMC into 1 working version... this little box would be perfect. (XBMC RC2 for Android is very choppy, but the add-ons seem to work... and the Alpha 6 for Pivos works very well, except for the script errors with the add-ons)
If you have the same issue I have with XBMC, and want to try the alpha 6 version... here is the download link: XBMC v.12 Alpha 6 Pivos
[edit] 1/14/2013
gbox just came out with a new rom here for the version 2.1 and 2.2 boxes. (I have the 2.2 version) that new rom mixed with XBMC RC3 and this box is now running at 99% perfect. I'm still getting some script errors with add-ons (icefilms) but I don't think that is the box or XBMC. (a lot of other add-ons work just fine) I would LOVE to see someone build a kernel for this box, maybe just to streamline it a bit and give us a little tweaking of the cpu... but that is for another post.

what about navi-x?
have you tried that add-on?

Why didnt you read the forum ?
The best working stable release is 12-04-12.
XBMC 12a6 is pretty out-dated. Best results come from the XBMC RC2 mattburris build.
Most add-on delays/problems are related to an outdated librtmp.so and can be replaced by the latest version.
And if you are going for max perfomance XBMC only solution, install the update from Static over a clean 12-04-12.
Last but not least, kernel tweaking does not make sence on the box as it does not run on the full 1.5 Ghz related to the lack of a good heatsink/fan. Im not saying that it isnt welcome, but the problems are mostly related to really bad firmware and the very young releases of XBMC for Android.
Most plugins work on the barebone release, incl. navi,ice,1ch,xot
Have fun

g-box midnight
I bought one to use as a media center for my friends and I. I use a 1tb seagate external and it holds all of the movies and show I wish to play. XBMC has played just about every file I have thrown at it pretty flawlessly

MnCC,
When I started my post, there were very limited posts about this specific device in the forums, and in those limited posts, people were asking for owners to chime in with their 2 cents.
My g-box came with the 12-04-12 firmware version and with XBMC R2 loaded and it performed very poorly. Once the latest release of firmware and RC3 came out, only then did it start to run as I expected. The only reason I backrev'd to XMBC 12a6 was because other users posted in the XBMC forums that this was a lot smoother then RC2.
I am planning on using my g-box for other android apps, like hbo to go and max to go... so installing the xbmc-barebone-android-v0-1a-ultra-slim-ultra-fast firmware/rom is not an option for me, but others might go for it. Thank you for posting that link.

Guys, is this device worth buying? What are the pros and cons of it?

Can't find external hard disk in XBMC -Help please!
Hi guys,
I installed the latest version of xbmc on my G-Box midnight with the croniccorey firmware release. It all installed fine, but when I go to add my hard drive through 'add files' it doesn't have any external storage option. Another thread said to 'add from zip file' but no matter what I go into, I can find the 'SDA1' option.
I'm stuck, all help will be much appreciated!!!

Netflix on G-tab!!

Hi Folks,
Latest version of PLAYON supports andriod (didnt see it in the release notes, however, it seems to work).. I was able to get netflix working thru Playon, works great on the dolphin browser.
Where did you get the app? Didn't find it on Market.....
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 using Tapatalk
Try playstation's website. I just got an email from them a few weeks ago about the availability for android.
Sounds like it is not as much an app as it is a portal. An app is best, since then much better cache storage and smooth playback. Straight feed video quality tends to suck butt. This is why playing Netflix using Xbox, Window media and PS3 is far better results than staight from Netflix own site.

Of course it would be better, but for the time being, this is a great find until Netflix finally decides how to tackle their DRM bull and gets to work on something more official. I'll take something over nothing.
I haven't tried it yet, but this could make that $8 a month even more awesome.. lol
Hi,
Can anyone explain how to do this? I have a Netflix account, but not a Playon account...
Thanks,
Jim
Netflix on g-tab
Playon (http://www.playon.tv/playon) is a mediaserver that sits on your windows PC. Playon allows sites like HULU, Netflix... and media on your PC to be streamed to devices like a PS, xbox, wii etc.
You will need to load the Playon program on your PC and then enter netfilx info in there. As long as you are on the same network, you should be able to access the mediaserver thru your tablet. (Playon has a free trial.. I believe)

I don't know if there is an android app for Playon, but uPnPlay works for menus at least.
Won't play movies for me with VEGAn 5.1 using Rockplayer, Vegan native player, ES File Explorer's player, Vital Player or Vplayer.
If you want to try, download the Playon 14 day free trial
http://www.playon.tv/download
and install on a PC in the same network as your Gtab.
Follow the instructions to clear a firewall port and start the server running.
Go to the Market and install "uPnPlay" on your Gtab.
If everything is set up OK, launching uPnPlay will show the Playon server automatically.
Select the server, select Netflix from the list, enter your username and password, and you should be good to go, for the menus that is.
As stated, for me, no video, just a black screen.
BTW, Playon will set you back $39 for for the first year, $19 per year after that, unless you go for the lifetime $79 offer.
When Netflix comes out with an app (they're working on one), then Playon won't be needed.
I'm guessing all this may be dependent on Honeycomb's support of HTTP live streaming.
We should know more in a couple days (Feb. 2) at the press event.

omkar62,
What ROM are you running on your Gtab, and how did you get dolphin browser to access the mediaserver?
I can confirm. Stock ROM, 3389, standard tweaks (flash, gmail, etc), latest playon (unknown version), latest dolphin browser (just downloaded it). Went to mobile playon site (m.playon.tv), and it worked like a champ.

Everything seems to work with Dolphin browser. Buffers, but after "setting up your movie player", it falls back to the beginning before the buffering.
Anyway, thanks for all the help.
I suspect VEGAN 5.1 might be the culprit, so I'll try another ROM.
* EDIT * Don't know why, but it started working with no changes. It ran long enough to get an idea of the video quality.
I was hoping for a big improvement over slingbox. It's better, but not by much.
It died halfway through a movie, so I'm just going to live with slingbox for now.
Hopefully, when Slingplayer HD comes to android (like it has for iPad) things will improve.
Just tried it and this works great on my gtab running vegan 5.1. Just set it up on my local network and it was breeze. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks
can confirm it works for cm7 beta too
also Hulu is working too
Thanks for the update. Works great with vegan 5.1.
Make sure to set dolphin user agent back to android. On desktop setting it just stays at a black screen.
Since I bought playon back when it first came out this makes it valuable again. Plus I think Netflix app will be on hold until honeycomb... ---->
Feeling kinda dumb about now, but how do you start the video up? I can browse my queue and I'm able to see the details of movies but I can't get them to play.

Never mind, it helps to have the latest version installed. I thought play on updated automaticaly but I guess not.
Nice, anyone know how to make it work on a PC?
Works with my Vegan 5.1 as well.
Seems the Mobile playon.tv doesn't work form any PC on the network. Anyone know how to trick them into acting like an android browser?
Thinking of getting Playon to overcome some of the downsides of the Roku version for Hulu Plus....
I use Slingplayer to access my TiVo on the tablet and play Netflix from there. Works great
cant wait for netflix
They need to hurry up with Netflix. There seem to be some pretty good workarounds but jeez I would just prefer to go straight to netflix! I hope it comes out soon!
confirm netflix/hulu etc on vegan 5.1
manually set my router (which is UPNP enabled) to pass the port through the the Playon PC.
Black screen for a moment, then buffers and plays perfect!

VLC!!!

It was a complete P.I.T.A but I just finished building VLC. I had to upgrade my Linux distro, upgrade from Android SDK 15 to 17, install the NDK, install Eclipse from source (the version in the repos wasn't current enough), install the Android Developers Tools plugin for Eclipse, install about 30 different dependencies on Ubuntu, download over 1GB of Android SDK modules, and finally pull the Android VLC sources. Then I had to wait about 30 minutes while my ridiculously slow netbook compiled the source code, and THEN I had to compile the result of THAT in Eclipse.
The end result is an alpha build of VLC that runs on our phones (despite being built against the Gingerbread libs). It does in fact work, I just tested a couple video and audio files. I've tested the build with NEON enabled (hardware accelerated decoding) which seems to be okay and is in fact enabled on our SK4G. That being said, tomorrow i'll probably hit it again and build without NEON and see if it's more stable.
ENJOY

Ill give it a try in the morning looks legit. Are subtitles working? Like with mkv?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I haven't tested subtitles yet. I tried one .mkv which caused the app to hang, but it was an odd format that I actually ripped from youtube. (it was a .webm which is basically a renamed .mkv)
Oh, and in case you're wondering why it says "no media" when you start it, you have to go into preferences and select which directories it reads from. mine are set to /sdcard/Music and /sdcard/Videos.
Unintentional kang
I didn't realize until I tried rebuilding VLC on my other computer today, but I uploaded someone else's VLC build (and a rather old one at that). I should really clean up my home directory because it's full of random APK files (both compiled and decompiled) and SDK components at the moment. I rebuilt about 4 times today, encountering all manner of errors along the way but after i finally got the issues all sorted out, the resulting build only runs on Gingerbread and ICS. This is because the Froyo code has been stripped from the the code base in the VLC git, so it's pretty much a no go on our phones until we get a Gingerbread ROM. On the upside, I just tested my VLC build on my old LG Optimus running CM7 and it works like a champ. I'll post the build I just made if anyone is interested, not that it does us any good on our SK4G
I'm definitely interested! Can you post your build. Does your build allow for entry of rtsp url to connect to a stream? Thanks a ton
no, there is no support for streaming built into the VLC app and I don't think there will be. There was no mention of it in the code, so I think that the VLC app is simply intended to be for local files only and be able to handle video playback of most file types and codecs. So far, I haven't been too impressed with it. It was a lot of work to get it up and running only to find that it lags far behind competitors like Mobo player and Rock player. Then again, it's still an alpha software so I'm sure file support will come.
I'm not sure why, but I wasn't able to locate a single media file using VLC. (And I have songs, and a few .mp4 on the SD Card.) Anyways, thanks for compiling this.

[APP][2.3+][Weekly Builds] XBMC For Android Nightlies

There are official releases for neon and ICS+ devices over on xbmc.org.
For Tegra2 / GB devices I'm likely not going to be working on them much, if at all going forward. I no longer have a Tegra2 or GB device and version 13 of the upstream code base has some changes that will make it very difficult to support the Tegra2 going forward.
Thank you to staticaDK, repvik, lavero.burgos, and XBMC Android for their help with mirroring.
staticaDK has suffered equipment failure and his mirror is down. Any links / bookmarks to his mirror will no longer work. Please DO NOT use old links to this mirror
The xbmchub.com guys are launching http://www.xbmcandroid.com/. The forums are open for registration for anyone that is interested.
We also have a FreeNode channel #xbmcandroid for those that are interested.
I have also broken out a lot of the information from this XDA thread as separate threads on xbmcandroid.com
Please note these are unofficial builds of XBMC, please report issues here or xbmcandroid.com ONLY
Builds are now auto-run every Sunday (through out the day). I will no longer be directly linking to the builds, please head over to the mirrors (links below) to download a given build.
XBMC, What is That?
XBMC is a media player / HTPC software package that does just about anything you'd want on a home theater box or a portable media device. See http://www.xbmc.org for more information.
Why Here?
I have been maintaining nightly builds of XBMC for Android and after a few requests and realizing my posts have been cross-linked it's time to create a central spot for the builds.
Schedule of Builds
Builds are now run automatically every Sunday.
What Is Special About These Builds?
I have re-built the CrystaX NDK that is required for XBMC from sources and made some compiler flag changes in order to improve NEON device support and to support the Tegra2 or other non-NEON devices. These are unsupported changes, particularly the Tegra2 and any other device without NEON. The official XBMC stance is NO device lacking NEON will receive support.
What Is / Is Not Supported
All builds are now built for 2.3.x (GingerBread) or higher devices. ARM ONLY. I will not be releasing MIPS or x86 builds.
Google TV devices are UNSUPPORTED. I do not know if / when the XBMC dev's will be supporting Google TV.
I will not be releasing aplayer builds. I will be leaving it up to Pivos to do releases. Please visit the Pivos forums for the latest builds with AMLogic hardware decode support.
Which Build Do I Want?
There are two builds, one for Tegra2 devices and another for NEON devices (see below for specifics). If you are not sure which type of device you have, try the NEON build and if it crashes, then use the Tegra2 build. If you have a non-NEON devices that is not the Tegra2, the Tegra2 build will run, but not all that great.

FAQ
Why is the APK so large?
This is a full build of XBMC including dependencies, resources and the like. There is a lot to the build and output. See http://pastebin.com/LgnWzdHW for a breakdown of what is contained within the APK including file sizes.
Does zipalign help with the size of the apk?
I ran zipalign and it didn't reduce the file size, likely won't help given what is packed in the apk.
Is there a better skin for touch screens?
Under the appearance settings there is a skin named "Touched" that works much better on touch screen devices than the default.
Does my hdmi out / dock / etc work for tv playback?
There are reports of this working properly in this thread and others.
Can I change the resolution for hdmi / similar playback?
Initial reports indicate this is not possible currently.
Does it work with CyanogenMod 10 (CM10)?
Maybe. Some users have reported success with CM10, others have had issues.
How do I get Fahrenheit Temperature?
Settings > System > International -> Change your region to USA if you want Fahrenheit
Common Problems
My screen starts flickering / freaking out: Kill the app, clear the app cache, restart devices, try again. Continue until the problem goes away.
I cannot play SD / 720p / 1080p content without stutters / dropped frames / audio sync issues / etc: Tough luck. Right now hardware decode support isn't complete, if your CPU can't process the video in software, you're stuck for the time being. The XBMC devs are working on hardware decode support and it will be done in due time. Do not ask for a deadline, there isn't one right now.
Battery life: Expect a pretty bad battery drain. This has been confirmed by a few others as well as the devices I tested. Given the project is targeting set-top boxes and similar equipment I would not expect this to be addressed until other, larger items are taken care of. Please do not complain to the official team about this item, complain here.
Resource utilization is high: This is known. Not going to change for awhile, do not complain to the official team, complain here.
Audio does not work: The XBMC audio levels and Android audio levels are not the same, you will need to adjust the volume in Android up to a higher level before launching XBMC most likely.
DVD Navigation may or may not work properly: This is known and being worked on by the main XBMC team.
/data is inaccessible: This partition is not accessible from XBMC.
Touchscreen Non-Responsive: Some users have reported the touchscreen taps aren't registering well or at all. The Toshiba Thrive 7" and 10" tablets seem to suffer the worst from this.

Great thread.
Is there any chance you can include a changelog of commits as you are building them then it will have all the information in one place without having to go to github etc.
Just a suggestion

I will be calling out any noteworthy changes with the builds. Right now I haven't seen anything of note coming in on the commit logs. It looks like they are doing general cleanup and some under the hood work.
Thank you for bringing this to us Tegra 2 users. It works so damn well.
This is fantastic. Absolutely great. Is there anyway to import the visualizers from ProjectM?

Great mate.
It will help to keep things organised. No point in updating daily for minor things but I will definitely update weekly or when a major commit comes.
Thanks one again.
Thank you for this

Download works for me, I used the stock ICS browser (came with the ROM I'm using). Just hit download.
If you're websensed (at work/school, blocked by IT firewall/censored page), right click the link, copy link address, make a QR code here, install Barcode Scanner, and scan the generated barcode.
Testing on a Tegra 2 phone (it's the 3G version of the Sprint Motorola Photon 4G). I will edit/post with results. FYI, huge file size. Don't download on 3G/4G unless you're a light data user/you have a nice plan (US Cellular 5GB plan, FTW).
//edit: 48.82MB. Good lawd that's a big APK!
It starts...
It can play music... but it's kind of a PITA, vs. your favorite music app. First you have to add the source. Hit browse. "Android Music" is the place your music player is getting it from. It's a placeholder, like the Libraries in Windows 7/8.
You can launch apps from it. Neato.
Videos... Eh... They don't get added as easily as music. "Android videos" might refer to the camera roll, but it's not where I have my videos. I had to add that manually. I have a 720p MP4 of the Fallout 3 intro that MX Player plays like butter, but it plays like crap in XBMC. A 3GP video I took with a dumbphone of my niece b***h-slapping me (she was 2 at the time, and objected "but he's my friend" first, haha) played fine. A shorter 720p video, another MP4 from YouTube, but only 4.5MB as opposed to the Fallout video's 47.3MB, stuttered almost as bad as the Fallout video.
Scrolling is... um, difficult. On the main menu, and if you have to browse for anything. It's gonna fight you. Works if you can grab the itty bitty scroll bar. But if you just grab the directory tree and toss, it may work or it may not. Or it may open the folder you grabbed it by.
Basically... it's nice and fancy but not too practical. Can this receive streams from a PC or server?

Downloads were down earlier today. I had forgotten DropBox had limits to how much data can be sent via public links. I also didn't expect to get that many downloads in the course of a day. I've moved my file hosting to another provider that provides more transfer and a dashboard that should let me keep an eye on my limits better.
I have updated the post with links to include file sizes and made a note to see about decreasing the file sizes.

Which skin are you using? The default in the build is confluence which is optimized for keyboard / remote usage. The settings area has an appearance tab that will let you change to the "touched" skin which is infinately more managable on a smaller screen.
Once you add the sources you can scan the items to the library (including auto-scans on launch) that greatly improves visibility and access to content.
Your success with video is pretty much par for course on the Tegra2. XBMC currently does not have hardware decode support and relys on software rendering. It has 1/2 of the floating point units (why it won't receive official treatment) that you would find on a newer chip which greatly impedes its ability to decode video content. Things will improve once hardware decode support is available (it's being worked on in mainline). I will be working on improving the builds as much as I can while the mainline devs finish up general hardware decode support.
You can setup smb / ssh / upnp / similar sources and they should generally work.
finding a bit hit and miss opening the app on a Tegra 3 - TF300
will try and reboot and see if it's any better - have tried the force close/reopen
anyone else with more luck?
Edit: Reboot has helped - app opens no issue anymore
Thanks for the NEON build - using the Touched skin
Confluence looks better, but Touch is more functional by far!
On a Tegra 3 TF300:
720p AC3 mkv - playback OK but not watchable - stutter. Audio appears to play mostly uninterupted.
1080p DTS mkv - playback OK but not watchable, but audio and video stutter.
Keep up the good work!
Looking forward to a stable build with HW acceleration!
Yeah, I wasn't expecting much out of XBMC. I knew the limitations going in. 0% of the blame on you. Some is on nVidia (Tegra) and Motorola (Photon 4G/Electrify) but some is also on XBMC themselves. MX Player plays HD video beautifully on my phone, although I do have it formatted for my screen. So it's scaled down to 960x540 (not 720p as I stated above). So video playback is possible in Tegra 2. Not sure if MX Player's drivers are open source. Might be worth looking into.
And I was using Confluence, didn't think to change the skin. I use a ROM that has a hybrid tablet mode, so I'm used to touching smaller screen items than many Android users, particularly those on stock builds. I actually had little trouble hitting the tiny touch controls for media on the main screen, and those were some tiny buttons, but I'll check out the other skin.
Other skin checked out, works a lot better, thanks.

I'd hold off until you know if it will perform or not. On the Tegra2's there is hit or miss support for even SD content. Support seems to boil down to container format and audio stream. I know my SD content stored in mkv with ac3/dts audio stutters badly at times. I've heard reports of xvid avi + mp3 audio being much better for playback.

M8 Amlogic TV box (geekbuying :~{)

I have problems with M8 Amlogic tvbox recently bought from Geekbuying (and so far no response to emails requesting support - not good)
The unit looks well build and basic performance, speed, display etc is OK. I've flashed the latest firmware (quite easy). But, big but...
UK TV streaming doesn't work properly:
BBCi player app: sound, but no video (black screen)
4od app: plays downloaded videos, but streaming live content gets "can't play this video" error message
Eurosport player app: live content gets "can't play this video" error message
Can anyone shed a little light into what is wrong here please ??
is there a missing codec? or a missing app ?
thanks, I'd love to fix this - then the M8 will be a great performer - at the moment its pretty crap.
Not much of a response....

Response received from Geekbuying was basically,
"sorry you're having problems, there is nothing we can do, if the factory produce an update to flash we'll put it on the blog"
the request for return and refund for something not fit for purpose was ignored.
Here is one who won't be trading with Geekbuying again.

Hi,
Still the same, trying updated flash rom, but so far no improvement.
Happy to stick with it if the help is found to resolve the problem, I'm sure I'm not the only one having problems playing streaming video.

Did you get anywhere with this? I have the same problem...
Try to install the update or re-install the ROM. I never has these problems before
Hi Sorry to hear your having problems
I have just bought the same OTT 4K TV BOX, Quad core, 2GB ram 8GB internal from amazon listed as fully loaded and rooted.
I can only speak for my box purchased sept 2014 and so far it works flawlessly... if you want UK live channels (i'm in uk anyway) google
for Mobdro.apk and install it to the device it works and stream a multitude of channels including all uk channels.
The included XBMC 13.1 works well and is preinstalled with all the popular video addons which auto update to fix dead links and non working
streams and 80% stream very well, yes some links are dead but thats the nature of the 3rd party apps put on these devices, the manufacture
and seller has NO control over these links etc.
I have taught myself how to completely reinstall the devices firmware and do a reinstall of apps and even the XBMC custom setup and again the
box works perfectly. To backup XBMC use USB SD Card pluggin 1.1.6 it's by far the quickest and best option to avoid problems.
My box has a startup logo saying Droidplayer.co.uk if yours is the same google them, go to their website where you can download the
DP app v2.1, put this on the device, uninstall XBMC and reinstall it via the app which will also redo the custom addons (big download though)
Early days for me but so far so good, box is well made with slightly skittish software here and there due to the 3rd party apps etc.
Provided remote is rubbish so have ordered a 3 in 1 air mouse keyboard remote.
Not much progress

Hi,
Not much progress really, I've flashed various upgrades (now on 7/22 firmware) with a little improvement; 1024p HD now works for playing videos (best with MXplayer so far) and BBCi player now works in HD, but no progress with Eurosport Player which refuses to play the live streaming data "cannot play this video" - yet it will play the videos from previous days. I guess either Eurosport use a different format for the live stream and the M8 is missing either a codec or some DRM data.
It is such a shame because my main use for a tv box is Eurosport player, then video quality overall is the best of any Android TV boxes I've tried, but the others all worked with Eurosport !
Does anyone have any clues ??

I hope you've managed to get this sorted by now. But I just got mine and had the exact same problem as you did. Reading this thread, and the response from @leezaal got me thinking about using the stuff from droidplayer.co.uk and sticking it on my box. So I tried it, and it works like a charm. Here's the link to get it working for anyone who's looking at this:
http://www.droidplayer.co.uk/blog/?p=351
So all in all, follow that link and you should be sorted, thanks to @leezaal and the fully loaded XBMC from that website is very useful.
Hi Willmott1992 and thanks for your offer of help, but it didn't.
I have lots more in XBMC (I guess this is "video underground"), but my subscribed Eurosport Player still won't / can't play live video stream and the problem only seems to exist with the M8 box.
Does anyone know what codecs / DRM files are required to enable the Eurosport Player app to function ?
Vega S89 wont play live stream on Eurosport player to. Subscription is ok, it works on other devices (Galaxy Tab p7500 with4.4.4, P6 and Xperia L.

Hi X1iGGVV,
Thank you for your response.
Do you (or anyone else) know why Eurosport Player won't play ?? This is what I'm trying to find out and hopefully find a fix.
I contacted Eurosport technical support and their reply was (as expected) 'Android TV box is not supported, only phone and tablet' - loosely translated as we don't want to know - funny because it works on my old Justop Droibox Lite tv box. Sadly they wouldn't answer the question what codecs are required for it to work.
If Eurosport player works on most android devices (including TV boxes) then it ought to work on a high spec. unit like the M8 ??
Hi!
I have try to get some help from Huawei P7 community, and instructions about to get colection of missing Codecs. It is about streaming codecs and compatibility with Mali-450 GP. P7 have the same graphics and there is a product that is made for Europian countrys. Hope to get some respons from the owners or developers for P7, just for the reason that is wrighte HW and tha I know that Eurosport Player working on P7. Specific Codecs have to be coped in the Vega box and in the directories that Eurosport Player looks for the codesc. I know tha this is a way looking backwords for Vega development just for that fokus is on 4K videos playing a lokal and not sreaming. I´ll not give upp, it will works!
On the other side I can undersend Eurosport Player support team that no help leaks from the team about hardware that is not fully compatible (codecs include) with europian market. It is not Eurosport team that have to fix it. It.s a developers of HW that have not think about something that is far away from China , Eurosport Player works from Europian IP networks and it is not posible for China developers to check upp every single app.
Best regards from Sweden

[WIP] AndroidTV for PC

So this has been a pet project of mine for a while now, and it's finally starting to come together so I decided to post it here.
I love AndroidTV, and have a Nexus Player I really love using. When CM came out for the Nexus Player and I discovered that all it takes to make a 'regular' Android distribution an AndroidTV is a set of apps (by using the CM Leanback Gapps), I figured - why not apply this to an Android x86 build (Nexus Player is x86 too after all) and have myself an AndroidTV HTPC on my current PC?
Well, at first it didn't work because the Android 5.* builds weren't steady enough and wouldn't run on my HTPC without freezing, but once MESA (the open source driver libraries) were introduced - BAM! I got it up and running, flashed the Leanback GAPPS and.....
IT LIVES!
Almost.
When I reboot it I was greeted with the setup menu, however to my dismay - no Leanback Launcher (though I suspect it may have been due to the method I used to flash GAPPS, which is just copy over all the files through ADB), and also video playback currently doesn't work (which I understand is a problem with all Androidx86 5.* builds at the moment), but the cast receiver works (and receives casts - just can't play them because of the video playback issue) and I'm betting that with a little tweaking (or perhaps precompiling the build with the leanback gapps already baked inside) I can get all the software features (including leanback launcher) to work! For now we just have to wait for Android 5.* to mature well enough to fix video playback, but the future is promising!
I'll keep you posted with whatever I manage to come up with in the future, but I'm sure the fine devs here at XDA can beat me to it and get it working well sooner! (I'm not really a dev, just a tinkerer).
Waiting for new development
going to try and report back if i get any sucess
As there has been no development with this project, this thread is closed.
