Hey guys,
Parrot cancelled their android app for the AR.Drone after demoing a fully functional app earlier this year. Now you have to have an iphone/ipod touch to use it. We need to give this thing as many 1-star reviews as we can for cancelling the plans!

So the right thing to do is to throw a temper tantrum like a 4 year old and 1-star review their product because they won't be releasing an android app?
Let me ask you a simple question, did you like using their product before you heard about a possible android app? If so, what's changed?
Finally, I still believe my first post says it all; just develop you own app for it and be merry.

Maybe he bought it SOLELY because it supported Android. Obviously he liked the toy itself, but he absolutely would not have purchased without Android support.
With all of the movement towards Android, odd they'd pull out.
It is not that odd, considering that Google failed the implementation of ad-hoc networking in their latest Android release which is the basic prerequisite to connect to the drone. You will not actess a mainstream market if people need to root their phones first and fiddle around in the systems to enable ad-hoc networking with some weird hacking tools.
From a company perspective this was just the only logical step.
Why do we even care? Like am I missing something awesome about this? Its a little floating plane type toy thats $300 and runs off a phone? To be it seems dumb i could go get one from walmart for $30 and just suck it up and use a controller
With great pleasure i read today that Notion Ink Adam tablet is available for preorder. i want to ask some questions
1. What operating system it will running? Rumours refer Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is the operating system
2. If the above is true will it support upgrade to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) when it will be ready?May be is running a custom version of Android or stock one?
3. About 3G does it cover GSM 900,1800 and UMTS 2100?
4. Will google market be available?
The tablet hasn't even passed the FCC. As of now, it doesn't even exist in a form available for consumers. The site also allows you to provide your billing info without providing a shipping address, which should set off a big red scam alert flag in your head.

Thanks for the info my friend.I didnt know that it did not passed FCC.Really now i wonder why they start taking money from people. That's stupid ,not to say more bad words.
I think i must look for alternatives.
Many people like me, who don't search for info before buying something, are easy to get fraud.
Not a scam

I beg to differ with you guys. Its genuine and The pixel Q version of the tabs are already sold out and they showcased this device in CES much before you have had any clues about Galaxy tab or any other for that matter. Between I have visited their office (Bangalore, India) personally 2 days back.
They have launched a developer section too. And if you talk technically then they have managed to solve android app's inability to handle large screens.
Notionink's introspection on all your doubts.

Here's the original report, and even though the "billing info without shipping info" has been fixed, it still doesn't change the fact that it hasn't even passed the FCC. I think I'd entrust my money with an actual well-known manufacturer with a product that I can see and touch before I buy.
Why is it that the pessimist is always the first to respond. Whatever. On the FCC issue, I vaguely remember that they did something so that you can't find it but I can't remember where I found that.

Well, when you're dealing with money for a luxury product that has several alternatives it's okay to be pessimistic. Better safe than sorry in a situation like this, no?

Here, have some valuable information:
"We have done something with our FCC application and it will be little difficult for you to find us!"
to answer your questions:
1. It will most likely run on 2.2 at first but "Eden is extremely compatible with 2.3" this implies that they are working on it.
2."This was a big step in converting your Android to a tablet version OS (and one of the updates coming in 3.0)" I'm not sure what this implies, but it might mean we will get 3.0
3.I have no idea, the whole 3g thing is a little confusing
4."Will it support the Google Market place? Or do you have your own market place/App Store that you are developing?
-We will have our own market place."
however, it probably won't take long for the devs to get the market on it.

yeah I totally agree on the fact that it is okay to be pessimistic, but most of what you heard that makes the adam sound shady came from one series of articles on android police. I'm not sure, but I bet that if they tried they could make any company sound shady. Anyway, if Notion ink sounds shady, it's not really their fault, they are extremely inexperienced. It is a company run by 20-something year olds with no business experience straight out of college. They're bound to make some mistakes.
Ok, maybe the title is a little over the top, but does anyone else feel that this is just a crime?
Selling HD2 Android Upgrade!
I'm sure HTC probably doesn't like it. And I'm double sure the people who have worked to create the tools to do would like their share if it's going to be sold.
Just my 2 cents.
If people are stupid enough to buy it who cares...
I agree with both posters so far. See some of the prices of phones on that site? Holy ****.
Have any of the actual developers commented on this yet, or have they been made aware?
I would hope that these IP thieves get what's coming to them, but sadly they'll probably be able to carry on profiting from other peoples work.
Geeting an HD2 and play around with your own Android installation is fine.
Selling HD2 with pre-installed Android orpaid Android installing service is a violation of ethics and moral.
Those price...it is criminal!!!
I hope the authority will do something against this kind of act.
Guy who posted a few days ago that he was going to release Android on touchpad instuctions via youtube faked it. Today he posted a new video ending in "go buy an Ipad". The whole thing was a setup.
Kinda crappy if you asked me.
Here is his channel. I say everyone give him a thumbs down.

OMFG.......I was so excited about this and now...........sigh.......
let's not be so darn absolute
that was one user not indicative of any users on rootzwiki who do have natively running android versions on their touchpad thanks to qualcomm
the title is very misleading
The guy was full of BS from day one. He had no proof unlike the guy who has actual video (3 in fact) showing android running on his TP. A good dev should be able to rip that thing apart and get what we need to build an android os. I'm just glad that tablet ended up in the hands of someone who knew it was special. It could have been given to a 6 year old girl to watch Barbie movies on and parents who would not know the difference. Can you imagine if it fell into the hands of Tosh? FOURRRRRRRR!

Nothing was absolute. My post was about the idiot who scammed everyone. Not anyone on rootzwiki.
Btw, I changed title just for you.
haha i knew that first video was BS
there's no way a dev would go through the effort of making a stupid teaser video without showing off ANY of their work.
Drawing and quartering is too good for that AndroidGuy31 person. He's probably been hacked so many times he's regretting leading folks on though at this point.
This thread title is a bit misleading. Edit?
On day 1 there were no less than 2-3 videos showing android running on the Touchpad. While a few called fake at the top of their lungs (and this android31 guy or whatever seems to be fake as hell) the other video was 100% legit.
Qualcomm Innovations apparently was using blank Touchpads as a work platform for software testing for an upcoming HTC tablet with very similar specs. Meaning they had a nearly fully functional port of android running on it. A number of these have made it out to the market somehow in this firesale, and at least one guy in TX has already posted willing to upload an image of his build.

Your title makes it sound like there is just one video out there making this claim. That's the only reason I took issue with it, because it misleads people slightly. Someone just cross-posted in the thread I just made about the qualcomm port saying offhand that the other two videos I was discussing were faked. I don't think they are, and in any case they're entirely different from the video you're talking about.
AndroidGuy31 made a fake vid. More impressive is that there are now 3 videos of a functional android 2.2.1 port on youtube, one android touchpad listed on ebay, and one guy offering to image his for the community on a dev board. So either 3 people all spontaneously decided to hoax people with the same Android builds and situations, or maybe HP really did let some of the QI tablets out into the wild during this firesale, during which their shipping could barely handle demand. I really don't think the guys at the HP warehouses were paying attention what stack the box came from.
It's your thread though, I won't bring it up again. Just figured I'd ask since it'd be helpful.

Were cool bro. I am as excited about the port as you are. I guess I put too much hope into that guys vid and expected too much. Now I am still skeptical about these guys who have magically received tablets with android already on them. Seems a bit far fetched, but thats just my oppinion.
You also have a valid point about the other vids. Until they are proven fake, I guess we have to go with them. I do not want to spread false rumors or info so I went ahead and changed the title again.
Apparently the videos from that one guy may have been fake but the fact that someone had a touchpad with android on it is not fake. The dump of android 2.2.1 from a touchpad has now been posted on another dev forum. Let the waiting and anticipation continue!
This phone has a lot of potential, but it will never be anything more. The reason I say this is because of Blu's business model, which I was unaware of when I bought the device. They do not have an R&D department. They are just middle men. Gionee makes most of their phones and they simply rebrand them. That is why they offer zero support. They can't. The don't have anything to do with the phone other than distribution. So there will never be upgrades to software unless Gionee makes it, but that probably won't happen because they are not in software development business. They primarily only make the phones, so support is not a major concern for them as well. Blu just constantly buys phones and throws them out there. There was this phone, which was quickly forgotten as they transitioned to their next phone, the VIVO 5. There was supposed to be an MM upgrade for this device. I don't believe they ever saw it. Now they are onto the ENERGY XL and the VIVO will be forgotten. They will never release any code or info on the phones, because they can't. They don't own it or have created it. They just middle man and rebrand. Hence, there will always be little to no development for any Blu device.
This has been covered many MANY times here on XDA... Maybe you could have done some reading before purchase. I for one dont make purchases without at least reading some reviews and seeing what other people have said about the company / service / product.
One would assume a member of the XDA community would have the forethought to do the same.
Thank You for your opinion, but this isnt the venue for venting about buyers remorse, there are sites like amazon for that.
If you dont like the software on the phone, learn to code, or buy another phone, but spouting all the hate and bile about a self professed rebranding reseller is neither helpful or productive, so lets keep this forum about moving forward, not about personal regrets you project onto a company.

No this may not be a site for buyers remorse, but it is a site about facts and the fact is BLU does not own anything and therefore can not produce updates, release code, stock roms, or anything else beneficial to development. Is that better? BTW, I did research this phone and the vast majority of reviews were positive.
And once again if you had done even a TINY bit of research about the brand, you would have known this... they do not try to hide this information... so once again I am TRULY SORRY you bought something you dont like, and I am VERY GLAD you have learned from the experience and have grown from it...
Learn to code and help out instead of complaining...
As far as positive reviews, I love the phone, using different launcher and exposed its good phone... dont know what your beef is with the company or the phone... they could have locked the boot loader or encrypted it to the point we cant even root it, but none of that has happened... so quit being a "negative Nancy" and look at the brightside

I can't code this phone and apparently not many can. There is no source code to work with that has been released and I don't have the time to reverse engineer this device. This site is about sharing information and if I can help some to not make the same mistake I did, then I have succeeded. So please don't shoot the messenger, BLU is who your issue should be with.
to shoot the messenger of this ancient news i'd need a musket... and also you wouldnt be one being shot, as this isnt even "news" its "olds"
There are A LOT of people that CAN code for this phone, we just only have 2 or 3 that are busy as hell, so we dont make much progress... once again if you want it served up on silver platter, learn to code, or put up some reward money (thats how we got root btw)
but "the airing of grievances" is for festivus not for xda, so quit banging that head on the aluminum pole
Once again, it is not a grievance only a warning to help others in making a decision about this device. There I have said it for the last time.
griev·ance
ˈɡrēvəns/
noun
a real or imagined wrong or other cause for complaint or protest, especially unfair treatment.
"failure to redress genuine grievances"
synonyms: injustice, wrong, injury, ill, unfairness; More
an official statement of a complaint over something believed to be wrong or unfair.
"three pilots have filed grievances against the company"
a feeling of resentment over something believed to be wrong or unfair.
"he was nursing a grievance"
"The reason I say this is because of Blu's business model, which I was unaware of when I bought the device."

And are upset no custom roms or updates available...
http://bluproducts.com/android-software-updates
kit kat is latest updates the advertise, you have lollipop but still arent happy, to the point you had to come on a community site who actually read, and like the phones they purchased...just to bad mouth and spout negativity toward a phone that most people who purchased are very happy with (hence the plethora of positive reviews you mentioned.)
this isnt a place to vent your personal experiences about a uninformed purchase you made (nor is it a place for me to decide ANYTHING, i AM NOT a MOD) but my suggestion is to do more research next time, maybe see if there are roms available for a phone BEFORE you purchase it, and research the companies record for updated BEFORE you purchase... being angry after the fact for making a poor decision not only is "crying over spilled milk" but also unbecoming and unhelpful...
BLU is a company with a reputation for selling CHEAP, REBRANDED, CHINESE phones from GIONEE... this is all COMMON KNOWLEDGE and very easily found out with very little effort... (one would even say less effort than the tirade post you started this whole debacle with, certainly less keystrokes)
SO by all means maybe do some more research (I tried to help with the definition of grievance for you, since you obviously you chose to ignore it, or do not know it)
also your "warning" is akin to standing outside McDonalds (or fast food grease hut of your choosing) and warning people entering they "served you a cheeseburger, when you wanted a cheeseburger with onions, but didnt look or ask if a cheeseburger comes with onions, AND THEY ALSO SERVE CHEAP FATTENING FOODS HIGH IN SODIUM"
the basic point being you cant flash a rom to a device, so now you have sour grapes and have to spit whatever tripe you can to "warn" people on a place, that IN THE TITLE OF THE WEBSITE states "Developers," im sure we need it... thanks for all the help!
XDA isn't a place for venting because you didn't research before buying.
