I am trying different ROMS on the Tab 2, PAC, CM and they don't come with the Google Apps Play Store, so you have to install it separate. The ROM operates normal up until I flash it, then I get this pop up saying AOSP keyboard stop working. I tried flashing older versions as well and it does the same thing.

Are you flashing 4.3 ROMs with 4.3 gapps? If not it can cause lots of troubles.

Also, I know there have been issues with a lot of the 4.3 GAPPs packages causing keyboard FCs. On the Razr M, most people have solved the problem by using Slim's AIO or GAPPs packages. I'm not sure if this would fix it on the Tab. I'm still running Slim 4.2 on my Tab, so I haven't had 4.3 experience on it. However, I have had experience with 4.3 on my Razr and I always flash the Slim AIO package and I've never had an issue.

The AOSP keyboard is now available on the Play Store (free). You may also want to try SwiftKey or TouchPal.

So I have a few questions. I guess you can call me a novice at this. I have flashed Roms before just put like 4 on my phone and nandroid back up each one to test later.
My question is what does flashing Radios and Kernels do?
I flashed a radio on my inspire once and messed it up.
Also I need some help on flashing CM10 or jellybean ROMS. I wanna try jelly bean and cm 10 out but know nothing about gapps and I don't want a ROM I will have to update weekly. Will I have to with those roms?

You only flash daily to stay on the bleeding edge. Besides, a few days ago CM added an updater which you can tell it how often you want to be notified about an "update". (Weekly, monthly, only stable builds, etc..)
Gapps = Google's proprietary apps like Play Store, Gmail, etc. Can't legally put those into CM due to legal reasons. If you Google "jb gapps", I'm positive you will find what you are looking for .

We can't really give our opinions on the rom because different people will always think different things, as far as my say goes it is an impressive piece of work.

Hello, just wondering if i can use marmite with slim bean? Im currently using CM 10 with the default kernel, on a Nexus S (3G? its not the 4G version)
If I can, any helpful links and procedures would be appreciated, for example what steps should be taken when switching roms and kernels.
Thanks!

Hi,
Slim Bean already has the marmite kernel in its ROM.
look here for info and installation
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/installation
The download section will lead you to the Crespo link... not the Crespo4G
Its an awesome ROM
good luck
I just flash slim bean 3.1 and it already had Gapps in the rom. I dont need to flash the gapps addon, do it? I actually wanted to flash the 4.2 gapps, its suppose to be compatible with any rom based on 4.XX and above.
Slimbean has Marmite in it as the default kernel. It runs very well. Was very nice but couldn't stand the very low compatibility rate with apps in the market... Many I sorely missed.
I haven't really noticed issues with app compatibility yet. Drop box wasnt compatible, but I just installed the apk, I have many of my essential apps backup on my drop box and titanium

You need cm version. It says so in the first cell on the spreadsheet
Here's an (unofficial) Google apps package for CM10.1. All of the apps/libs/etc have been pulled from the official Galaxy Nexus factory image 4.2.2 (JDQ39).
Download link: gapps-jb-4.2.2-20130301-signed.zip
Notes:
1. This package DOES NOT include the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk, as the current version included with previous JB GAPPS packages is 4.0.3 but it is no longer part of the official 4.2.2 ROM. It DOES include CalendarGoogle.apk (the official Google Calendar app) which is almost 100% identical to the CM calendar app, just has a prettier icon (IMHO), and it does not require the sync adapter. Also, apps like GTasks don't require the sync adapter, so no loss there. Apparently, the only app that does require the 4.0.3 sync adapter is the CM calendar app, which is removed by the GAPPS installer.
2. After flashing this GAPPS package, Google Now will most likely FC when launching a voice search. Fear not, just go to the Play Store and install the Sound Search for Google Play update (v1.1.7) and the Google Search update (v2.3.11.575405) and you will be back in business. Note: v1.1.7 cannot be installed as a \system\app, it will FC, it must be installed as \data\app as an update (believe me... I tried) and that's why it's not included in this GAPPS package by default.
3. If you have another GAPPS package installed, just flash this version over the top of the existing package in recovery (TWRP or CWM.) There is no need to factory reset, or wipe cache, or do any sort of silly rain dance.
4. Yes, this GAPPS package will back itself up and restore when flashing a CM update via CM Updater or manually in recovery.
5. Question? Post them in this thread.
Enjoy, and you're welcome!
Sweet, thanks. I'm going to try ne!

Nothing really. It's not difficult to delete the calendar sync adapter and install the google calendar from the play store. That's basically the only real difference.

They are the 4.2.2 updated apps and libs, not the 4.2.1 versions as in the 20121212 gapps package.

I stand somewhat corrected. I wasn't thinking about the jar files and such. I did a quick comparison and they are indeed different, but what exactly is different?
For example, decompiling com.google.android.maps.jar shows that the only difference is 5 smali files. I opened the first one, MapActivity$1.smali and the only difference is they inserted an empty line at line 355. Just curious if there is actually any significant changes.

Breaks gesture typing. Flashed this and gesture typing stopped working. It was showing trails but not typing anything. Replaced libjni_latinime.so in these gapps with the old lib in the official ones and gesture typing was back.

Thanks. Fixed in gapps-jb-4.2.2-20130301-signed.zip. The correct lib to include is actually libjni_latinimegoogle.so from the factory image, renamed to libjni_latinime.so so that it overwrites the version included in the CM build.
Using the latest zip with 03/01 CM 10.1, seems to work fine so far.
How about picasa sync? I really love albums showing up directly from gallery.

I believe the stock GalleryGoogle.apk is only installed on Nexus devices. Will test it on SR and see about installing it by default. That would mean loosing CM camera features like HDR, but gaining picasa sync.

As topic says
I am a Tab2 user but i got this yesterday and i really need the JB 4.3 .
I just hate Samsung stock bloat rom. Is there any custom alternative to my Note GT-N8010?
Also is there any way to root this device?
I think i found a guide but i ask the professionals here instead of guessing
Thanks guys/Girls!
There are plenty of roms and ways to be rooted, you should check the whole android dev. Forum before oppening a new topic asking for something that is already there...
Well is i said im not sure what i can use or not. I do not want to damage my tablet and therefor i ask the guys who knows what rom i can use with my GT-N8010 32GB
Most of the roms i have been looking at doesn't say if it is for my device or the other 8xxx devices. I have root but i want a new fast rom (4.3-4.4) with working s-pen and IR
i ask because i do not want to make a mistake :/ Also looking for a good Kernel!
I am looking for
*Rom thats fast with no bloat (4.3/4.4) working with GT-N8010 32GB
*A nice Kernel with over clock possibility working with GT-N8010 32GB

Well, I have a n8010 too, and we dont have a 4.4 rom yet, I tried Omnirom but wasnt able to install it. 4.3.1 rom is the CyanogenMod 10.2 , you can check official CM page and look for the n8013 model it should work just fine and it comes preloaded with a good kernel, but the rom is so fast fhat you wont need any OC, after thst you got Android Revolution HD and Hyperdrive, I am currently on hyperdrive (4.2.1) and sweet lord is FAST it comes with bloat only if Uwant it and all the spen funcionalities, Oh yeah..also CM10.2 doesnt come with all the spen funcionalities but the pressure sensitivity is the same.. (but you dont have snote and the realtime cropping option etc, those come with touchwiz.... My re omendation?.. Hyperdrive. Next one would be CM10.2 both are really awesome (for me) but one is AOSP and the other is touchwiz
Thank you very much! Will take a look at CM10.2 as i didnt get the Wifi working on Hyper.....

Concerning hyperdrive i had the same problem some time ago. maybe try one of the solutions here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296669
They did work back then, but i don't know if they still do.
For me (almost) all roms for the n8013 were/are working fine on the n8010.
If you have problems, try to flash latest version of Philz recovery(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202714) for 8013 !!! with odin.
for rooting methods 2 and 3 should do from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080366.
an odin alternative http://www.xda-developers.com/android/meet-jodin3-a-web-tool-that-flashes-your-samsung-device/
4.3 rom -> maybe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151873
4.4 -> omni
I'm loving omnibus on my 8010. I had to install the 8013 recovery to get it working but official omnirom builds are imminent and should support the 8010 directly.
The rom is fast, sleek, no real issues I can see, excellent power usage. Loving it

go with [4.4.2] OmniROM instead...
Although I did try Hyperdrive, I wasn't too impressed & Pacman was better, as I have been on 4.1.2 since day one & finally made the switch. I skipped over 4.2/4.3 & decided to go with the [[UNOFFICIAL Kit-Kat]] omniROM 4.4.2 on mine for the meantime. I am very much impressed, only issue I have found so far, is the 'Swype' feature isn't working, but other than that, its stellar thus far. I would highly recommend this rom for your tablet, until something 'new comes along... Maybe a Jedi X-Master ROM for our Note10.1's!!!
OmniROM 4.4 Does work for Galaxy Note 801x
One catch about OmniROM, it doesn't have a root built-in, so don't forget to root your device after you install the new ROM.
So to install, make sure you have CWM 6.0.4.4 (aka Philz Touch) or TWRP 2.6.3.1 as your recovery, and then go from there. The newest Roms are located on the OmniROM website now, and N801x is included. Get the gapps for Android 4.4, install after you install the ROM. Install the root after all that.
It's easy to install, and easy to use. I have been using Omni for about a month now, and it runs great. I just wish Samsung would've had enough sense to update all their models with this version of Android.

First install a custom recovery, the one I have found to work best is Philz Touch. You can do a search and find the link for it here in XDA. It's good because as I have noted before, OmniROM does not come rooted. Philz Touch has to be the easiest recovery I have ever used to install root, and you may want to do it several times because there are nightlies for the ROM.
As for the ROM, go to dl.omnirom.org and go to the folder for 'n801x'
Once you get the zip file downloaded, copy it to your SD card, install the recovery, and then install the ROM
Oh, don't forget, make sure you also get gapps for Android 4.4 on your SD card before doing this. Pointless to have a ROM with no gapps install.
Let me know if you have any problems.
Good luck

But what roms are there that are not based on cm?

Cm based rom works fine ....do a full system wipe before flashing .it will solve ur problem
I did that, and mostly they work fine. However when using my pebble with a running app (runkeeper, pebble runner or runtastic) the display on the pebble lags, and eventually stops updating. Worked fine in Stock, broken in all the mentioned roms.
