[Q] HTC Sensation SIM unlock not permanent? - HTC Sensation

I have this HTC Sensation 4G from T-Mobile (S-Off, rooted, now with CyanogenMod 9) and I wanted to use it with an H2O Wireless pay-as-you-go SIM card
that is currently in use in an old Blackberry 8700 phone.
Of course, upon inserting the H2O Wireless into the HTC Sensation, I was prompted to enter a "SIM network unlock code".
After getting the unlock code from T-Mobile I found out how to get the unlock code on my own - so yeah, the unlock code provided from
T-Mobile seems to be the correct one.
But:
* With the H2O Wireless SIM card inserted I have to enter the SIM network unlock code every time I boot up the phone or switch from "Airplane" mode to "Normal"
* After entering the SIM network unlock code, it says "Network unlock successful" - but the phone does not seem to pick up a GSM signal.
* Manually searching for network operators gives "Error while searching for networks"
* The H2O Wireless SIM card works just fine in this old Blackberry 8700 phone (with talk/text only, as I did not book any data services with H2O)
I found a similar thread where the solution was to "choose a different band", but in my case there are no network operators to choose from.
Enabling "Use only 2G networks" (in "Mobile network settings", CM9) did not help either.
In the same menu "Select network automatically" gives "Registered on network" after a few seconds, but the reception bar stays "crossed out" and shortly after
"Error while searching for networks" is printed.
So, I guess my question is:
* Why do I have to put in the SIM network unlock code over and over again? Is this related to CM9 being installed on the phone?
Should I try with a stock T-Mobile ROM? (Would this be "stock" enough?
* Even when the phone seems to be unlocked (until the next reboot), why is the H2O Wireless SIM card not picking up any signal?
Thanks,
C.

In my opinion, it is a bug in your rom.
I also bought my sensation with a SIM-lock and unlocked out with the network unlock code. Once entered, I was never asked for that again. But I used the stock ginger bread rom...
Your suggestion with trying a stock rom is good and the linked rom should be fine.
If you have a custom recovery, go into it, perform a full wipe except sdcard (sdcard should be formatted with your pc) and then choose install zip form sdcard and select the downloaded rom (check md5 is always recommended).
Try this please and give feedback or ask for more information

And it was! After I restored it to a stock ROM the phone asked once more to unlock the network and confirmed it with:
Code:
Successfully unlocked from the network...rebooting
And now the unlock was permanent. I flashed the phone with CM9.1 again and the network unlock is still in place. Yay!
Many thanks for encouraging me to try the stock ROM!

Seems like you need to get an unlock code.

Hey,
I've already got my SIm Unlock code (this guide helped me get it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233513 )
However when I placed my non-TMobile Sim, I don't get the "SIM Code" popup. This phone belongs to my godfather and he's not sure if he tried entering the code too many times when he tried to use an AT&T Sim.
How can I check if its permanently locked and/or force it to bring up the Sim code popup?
I'm rooted with S-OFF but still on the stock HTC rom.
Thanks.
Edit: I've done the Diag screen to Clean S58 Data and it's still not showing up.. :-/
Edit 2: Scratch the above. I did the Clean S58 data twice, and I got signal. My godfather will love this!

Branded or unbraded doesn't mean fake or original.
Branded = it came with your sim carrier (any logo of your carrier on it?)
Unbranded= means the opposit
If you have a branded phone, you can use only the sim of your carrier unless you unlock it.
This is why I asked. Good luck!

[Q] Delete APN from T-mobile to use Solavei

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, but trying to find an answer to my problem.
I have an HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile running 4.0. Recently started Beta testing Solavei. I put the Apn settings that they gave me in the phone. I am getting 4G data, but I can't get mms. Ivemtried several suggestions of other users, but it seems none of them are using the sensation.
I saw a thread on this forum about a file that will reset the factory T-mobile APN, but I'm not exactly sure how I would go about putting the file in and if this would help. I am not really interested in rooting the phone or developing or anything like that.
There are 2 APN's solavei gave me. One for data and one for mms. There are 2 other t-mobile APN's in the phone (data and mms). I'm worried I might need to delete the tmobile mms, but since it's 4.0 I can't use back up and restor to do it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try this go to Setting/Mobile network/Acces Point Names and then press the menu button. When the pop up menu appears select Reset to default. Then open the T-Mobile APNs and edit those APNs to the APNs for Solavei. Make sure press the menu button and select save before you back out of the APNs. Do this for both the data APNs and the MMS APNs.
Also if Reset to defaults does not remove all other APNs then do this. Select the APNs you want to remove and then press the menu button and select either Delete APN or Discard. One of these should remove the APNs. I think if you just edit the original T-Mobile APNs your device should work properly. But you may have to remove the T-Mobile APNs all together and just creat new APNs for Solavei.
Neither of those work, because the APN's are locked ( there is a little lock next to them). Reset to default just leaves them there and they are uneditable. I already tired both. But thanks for the advise. I'll keep looking for an answer.

Have you SIM unlocked your device? Also the APNs that the device is using should have a little green dot to the right of the data APN.
Edit: I reread your first post and I think you are talking about the PG58DIAG.zip file. This file will allow you to SIM unlock your device, you must be SIM unlocked to use another carrier with your device. You can find this file in this thread here. You just need to put the file on the root of your SD card and then boot your device into the bootloader and it will automatically scan for the file and ask if you want to install the update. Just follow the on screen instructions and then follow the on screen instructions when the diagnostic starts. Here is a hint when you are done running the diagnostic you will have to pull the battery and then put it back in. Also when running the diagnostic you want to choose yes for all the options it ask if you want to do.
I unlocked it using the htcdev. Is this different? The green dot is on the solavei data APN, but there is no green dot for MMS.

Yes SIM unlock is different from unlocking your bootloader which is what HTC Dev does. When you SIM unlock the device you unlock it so it can use any SIM card from any carrier, if you do not SIM unlock it you can not use the device on any other carrier but the carrier the device was made for. The thread you linked is just for unlocking the T-Mobile APNs to try and keep them from knowing you are using your device as a mobile hotspot for other devices. It has nothing to do with unlocking APNs for use with other carriers.
Ok, thanks. I will try the instructions that you sent me. Thanks so much!

Need help with APN
Hi,
I have HTC One S under Tmobile brand.
I have unlocked it and tried ATT sim card.
I am using the Net10 sim card under tmobile service.
The APN setting is by default are for tmobile and after creating the custom APN for Net10 it goes back to tmobile.
Again the phone is unlocked but I am not able to change the APN from tmobile to net10.
When I putting the ATT sim card it works good and there is no Tmobile apn at all but as soon as I am inserting Net10 sim card the tmobile APN shoes up again.
What can I do to remove the tmobile apn permanently.
Thanks in advance

Hey Port,
What it means when it says "Not registered on network" is that your device is not registered on Fido's network. One way to fix this is to go into your Network settings, and select "FIDO" as your network (which should automatically register your phone to the network).
If that still does not work, it is possible that your SIM card is not active and you will need to go in and get them to either:
a) Activate the SIM card or
b) Replace the SIM card and activate it on your FIDO account.
If then it is still not working, verify that the device is actually unlocked. Restart the phone with the FIDO SIM card in it, and if it asks you or a Network Unlock Code, then you will need to do one of the following:
a) Contact whoever you got the phone from and get them to request an unlock code from their provider.
b) Get an unlock code via one of the various methods available on the internet.
Option B will be your easiest option.
Good luck!

[Q] No sim card - no service after unlocking

Hi all, I think I looked everywhere for similar issue, including xda, but no luck. I got my "new" Sensation yesterday and, obviously, I wanted to have a custom rom as I do on my Desire. So I unlocked the bootloader and flashed both recovery and new rom (yes, the phone is still S-ON because I just couldn't get it to S-OFF, no matter what method I tried there was always an issue and I couldn't complete the procedure. if it's important I can explain in details what I tried/not tried). Right now it sits on CM-10.2 | AOSP 4.3 Jellybean [KANG] with 4EXT recovery. Everythin is fine however the phone is locked to O2 and I'm with T-Mobile. I tried to get the phone to S-OFF in order to remove the simlock myself but as I mentioned, no luck. So I got pissed off and I bought the unlock pin code. I've inserted my T-Mobile card, phone asked for the pin, I've entered it and boom, phone is unlocked. Great, I think to myself... well not really. One, the phone just won't get the signal (and I tried putting it to GSM mode only) and two, every time I reboot it the message to enter network pin come up . So I enter the code again and that's the end of the loop. Tried hard reset after entering the pin code but after a reboot it would still ask for the unlock pin and then won't pick up any signal. I've tried giffgaff sim card and that works straight away (as it works under O2) so it's not the phone issue (well, not the sim card port anyway).
Any ideas/solution/questions a-ny-thing would be greatly appreciated as I'm about to rage quit and give up on it .

Hi,
Could it just be the t-mob sim card?
Is there any chance to get a new one from them?

Thought that but the card works fine in my Desire. Never had any problems with it. What gets me is that constant message asking for the network pin after rebooting the phone. Surely once the code is entered the phone is unlocked ...
If I can't find any solution by monday I'll visit their shop and ask for a new sim or I'll just move my number to giffgaff >_>
Obviously if anyone has any solutions or ideas feel free to share them and I will be sure to try them. I'd really appreciate it!!
Sorry for double post

issue carrier unlocking my one x

Hey guys,
It has been a long time since I have done everything with my AT&T One X and I am having some trouble. I want to carrier unlock my phone so I can use it when I travel to Israel in 2 weeks. I got the code from AT&T through their website. I am running CM-NostromoPop v2.0.4.
The directions I received from AT&T are:
1. Power off the device and remove the AT&T SIM card.
2. Insert non-AT&T SIM card.
3. Power on the device. Wait a few moments, allowing the device to fully power-up.
4. Enter the unlock code when prompted.
5. Press OK. The device is unlocked.
The only microSIM I have is a Verizon SIM I use in my Verizon tablet. It is active on a Verizon account. I put that SIM in and turned on the phone, it popped up asking for the code, I type the code in correctly and press Unlock (it doesn't say OK) and it says "unlock unsuccessful" and waits for me to put the code in again. Has anyone run into the problem? Is the problem more likely to be CyanogeMod of the SIM card? I am currently installing ViperXL on my phone to see if a stock ROM would work better but I only have 2 tries left until my phone is permanently locked to the AT&T network.
I called AT&T and they said factory reset the phone or bring it into an AT&T store. I can't do either of those without flashing back to stock and I cannot figure out how to do that. Can someone explain to me or link me to a post on how to flash back to complete stock (the latest stock version preferrably, I probably won't be rooting my phone or anything anymore)
Some info about my phone:
I am S-OFF
CID is 11111111
HBOOT is 2.15
Radio is 1.31a.32.45.16_2
Recovery is TWRP 2.8.7.1
Thank you very much in advance
