Stupid Question - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I am not new to XDA but I do alot of reading and can generally find the answer to my question by XDA, Google, or some other forum. However, I am having a bit of a time with this question. I am brand new to Motorola...I am a Samsung guy but my wife likes these Motorola so in an effort to keep her happy I bought her the Droid Maxx. But as I was searching I have seen the name Maxx, Razr Maxx HD, Ultra, X all used when I think that I am only looking for Maxx. I have especially seen Ultra/Maxx used simultaneously.
**So my question: are these phones, at least basically, similar. I know there will be some difference but I'm wondering why they are grouped together (like Ultra Maxx and X) if there would be major differences? Just trying to understand so I can get the best information
Like I said I am Samsung so very new to Moto and just trying to understand so I can help her with her phone. Thanks for any clarification to this and if there is a thread that clears this up I apologize but I couldn't find it when I did my search.

For 2013, Motorola's newest releases are all very similar, aside from physical design.
There is the Moto X, released on many different carriers, and then the Verizon specific DROID lineup: Mini, Ultra, and Maxx.
These four devices all share the same processor and screen resolution. The DROID Mini has an LCD screen versus the AMOLEDs on the other three, and of course the battery capacity will vary.
On XDA, they have one forum for the DROID Mini, Ultra, and Maxx, and then a separate forum for the Moto X. Unless specified otherwise, any sort of modification created for the DROID Ultra will be compatible with the Mini and Maxx as well. Much of the discussion, however, is regarding the DROID Maxx (imo).
Motorola's RAZR brand is not being used this year (currently), and so those are all previous generation devices. 2011 being the DROID Razr, and 2012 was the DROID Razr HD. Both had 'Maxx' variants with the higher battery capacity.

Thanks for that reply. That makes sense and clears up alot of my confusion!

[Q] Verizon, Android Device Recommendation

So, I just got my Galaxy Nexus. What can I say, it's an amazing device, but I am having doubts. I have had 4 dropped calls, I've used the battery alot, and it's not bad, the OS is great, roms are a blessing. Although all of these things are great, it's already stood me up on a emergency. So, i'm looking at the Motorola Droid Razr, and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx {Droid 3 is a not, due to screen}. So basically i'm asking you guys to give me some advice on what I should do.
I come from the iPhone 4S, it just got boring, and i've always craved Android.
You definitely want the MAXX over the regular RAZR. The Droid4/RAZR battery drains like no other, especially on 4G. Root and Roms exist for both, but that's my .02.
You may also want to check out the HTC Rezound.
Really depends on what you want. Using my self as an example I've always had a keyboard. Came from a og Droid to the d3 then to the nexus. I prefer an unlocked and very hackable phone.
Now which do you prefer build quality and a pre installed extended battery slightly better camera (maybe). Or high dev support larger more quality screen unlocked boot loader and more than likely quicker updates.
I'd pick the nexus if your comparing nexus to moto devices. I would also look at the rezound HTC devices always looked appealing to me but I just had to have a nexus device

If you can wait to get either the Samsung or HTC phone with 8960 that would be the way to go IMO.

Help me decide... Coming from an iPhone 5

I specifically want to get either the Razr M or the Razr HD Maxx.
Since you guys already have been working on / with this phone, can you give me some pros and cons for the Razr M or the Razr HD Maxx vs the iPhone 5.
One thing I already know for a fact is the Razr family Battery > ANY iPhone Battery
Cheers!

Here is my thread on jumping from the M to the Maxx HD... it got locked with some trash talking. I guess the Mods close threads instead of dealing with people pooping in other peoples threads... Regardless it lays out good and bad of both devices pretty well.

I've been using an iPhone for the past few weeks, and my RAZR HD should be here by the end of the week. I can give you a full rundown of both devices.
I wouldn't even consider the RAZR M. The screen isn't the best. It's low res and pentile. I would chose either the RAZR HD or the RAZR MAXX HD.
Honestly, I can't wait to get my hands on it. The iPhone just has way too many limitations.

I sincerely look forward to your rundown comparison. Keep me posted!
I went with the regular HD over the MAXX with some concerns over battery, but I use my phone thought my day in wireless retail and it is my only contact with my DM who texts 40 - 50 messages a day and I rarely get under 30% battery after using it from 0800 to 2300-2400
I would say save a penny and go with just the HD

Unless you prefer a phone closer in overall size to the iPhone, I would definitely go with the HD. The M has decent battery life but the screen is definitely not as nice as the other devices. It is slightly wider than the iPhone which is helpful if like me you have thick fingers. Personally, I went for the Razr Maxx HD for the even wider screen and subsequently easier typing and the crazy battery. The storage capacity is also nice addition.
If you do opt for the Maxx HD, I'd get if from Amazon Wireless instead of Verizon because it's only $149.
If you are coming from an iPhone and plan on taking any pics I would strongly advise against the RAZR m. Its camera is anemic. My dad just got the Maxx HD. Its camera is tolerable. Battery and signal have been great tho
My RAZR HD arrived today.
Do far:
Great battery life
Solid construction
Very nice screen(better than my S3)
Strong wifi a cell signals
Pretty snappy(I haven't updated it to Jelly Bean yet)
Android OS. It's just so much smarter than iOS. I can tether without jail breaking, and the notification bar is smart(version the app menu Apple calls their notification bar).

Razr Maxx the same as Razr HD for roms?

All,
Will a Verizon Motorola Droid Razr Maxx use the same roms as Motorola Droid Razr HD? My parents both have Verizon Motorola Droid Razr Maxx and I'm thinking it would be a good idea to put a custom Rom on both of their phones. I used to have a rooted HTC droid Eris and Motorola Droid Global. So I have somewhat of an idea of what I'm doing. The only problem is I want to make sure that these roms will work on their phones.
Also, extremely dumb question since everyone will say something different but what is the best stable ROM out there for reliability? I remember HTC sense being ultra easy to use with the stock overlay of just clicking phone at the bottom etc.
Thanks,
Chris

No. The Razr Maxx HD is the same as the Razr HD, which was released in Oct 2012.
The droid razr maxx (the one you mentioned in you post) uses the same roms as the droid razr, both phones were released in 2010/2011 time frame I think.

The Razr and Razr HD also run different processors. Like Dan said, they ROMs aren't interchangeable. Also, you cannot unlock the bootloader on the Razr, so you'll need to use SafeStrap to flash ROMs. For more info, I would go over to the Razr forums.

[Q] Is this device worth to buy?

Hello Rarz HD users,
I would like to have a device with hdmi port on it and GSM/ LTE capable. I was looking for the phones with these functions and I realize Razr HD has the radio to work with GSM bands, plus also has hdmi port on it.
But since the device is couple years old, I just wasnt sure if it is still worth to get this phone. I wonder if you are still happy with your phone, where it lacks where it exceeds. And more importantly, how satisfied are you with the development of the phone in forums. Also if you had any chance to compare Rarz HD with more recent phones, what are your opinions? Maybe comparing Razr with new low end phones, such as Moto G, or E or similar
Your replies are very valuable for me, I really appreciate your time for responding.

Mine was recently lost, and i got another one. It is an excellent device, very worth it if you can find it for a decent price (I found a literally new one for about the price of a moto g)
As for ROM development, we got a great dev working on it, and other great devs who sometimes also mess with it. I am sure it will eventually get unnoficial android 5.0, and most cm11 nightlys are 100% stable on it.
It is 1000x better than the moto E IMO, but havent had much time around a G to say for sure, but i still like the rHD better.
If you are getting a xt926 in the US/vzw, beware, it may be permanently bl locked. If you are getting a xt925, no worries.

Difference in Droid Maxx's

Would someone help me distinguish between the different Droid Maxx's?
I have a Motorola Droid Maxx, XT1080, Kitkat 4.4.4, Build SU6-7.2. I see when using my phone it referee to itself sometimes as "Ultra." Then there is the Moto Maxx, RAZR Maxx. What are the differences, if any, and which forum should I post in? I have more questions about root access, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and custom ROMs.
I have been dying to unleash my phone but I want to do my research and have all my ducks in a row.
Thanks in advance!
SM
Razr Maxx is an entirely different device that launched the year prior to the Droid Ultra (xt1080) and Droid Maxx (xt1080m). The latter two are identical with the only difference being that the Droid Maxx has a larger battery. Consequently, ROMs developed for the Ultra will work on the Maxx as well.
