Does anyone know of a good car charger? You know, the kind that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket.
I had one at one time but it died after only a week of usage.
I got this one and it works fine with a spare microusb cable. Best part is that I can now have two phones charging at once.
Thanks!
At only $8, that's a steal of a deal! Just bought it with free two-day shipping.
Should have checked Monoprice

There used to be a twin plug one (I have it) but I can't find it now.

In my opinion... I have wasted alot of $ on trying to get away cheap on a car charger. By far the best one is the official verizon one. It charges to 100% from 0 in less than 2hrs and charges while I am navigating, wifi tethering and using bt at the same time. Well worth the extra cash.

I got a similar one, but it has one port meant for an ipad/tablet, which outputs 2A - that is helpful for when I am running car navigation and wifi hotspot at the same time. I also had to get a charging-only usb cable because regular cables would trigger usb storage mode on the phone.

To bad the Charge won't draw more than ~0.8A... Also, it is the charger causing the phone to go to mass storage mode, not the cable. A microUSB cable is a microUSB cable, and if the cable says "charging only" they have the data pins shorted out (I believe that's what is done) and it really isn't fixing the root cause of the issue.

nowai! That's the same car charger I use!
Only thing about it is, its a little short, so it may not fit perfectly in every car's cigarette lighter port. Won't work in my dad's car. :/

Did you ever try fastcharger script? It suppose to speed up your phone charger using USB.

The only way you could speed up charging would be to modify it via the kernel, or try to force load a module that does the same thing. Odds are the fastcharger script just gets the system to recognize USB charging as a wall charger. Either way, I wouldn't recommend using anything that says it'll make your phone charge faster unless there was SIGNIFICANT data to support the claim as well as evidence that it doesn't harm the hardware.
Charging the battery too fast is very dangerous too. I tried "supercharging" one of my batteries and it almost caught fire.

I would suggest this one http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Rapid-Vehicle-Power-Adapter/dp/B002N8HG0Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329181948&sr=1-2 since it is made by moto and provides 1 ampere instead of .7 or .5 others provide.

It could be the cable, but the odds are against that. The way to tell if it was the cable would be to try it in another AC charger to see what it does.

I tried a 2.0 amp USB car charger and the factory cable.. .my battery got really hot and didn't charge at all.. .not sure why but the 1.0 amp charger seems to work the best...I have seen a 5.0amp at Walmart in the car department.. .but I don't feel like experimenting with that

Samsung smartphones and Tablets charge in std mode (Charging USB) unless the two data wires are "shorted". (I have seen it done directly in a high speed charge only cable or in the Samsung chargers. Some say they use a resistor.) When the data pins are "shorted", Samsung switches to high speed charging. (Charging AC). I have been harassing a factory overseas for a dual car charger (2100mA) with one std. Port (iPad) and one Samsung port. It should be available soon.

I haven't tried another car charger personally, but can vouch for the Verizon one. Always works for me and I just leave it plugged in the lighter outlet in my center console so whenever I need it, it's easy and quick to plug in the phone. Also has the scrunchy style cord to keep things neat. But at the same time, it makes it more difficult to use the phone while it's plugged in as it keeps wanting to pull back lol
Lol, I don't know about you but i don't have a power outlet on top of my desk to plug this thing in. :silly:
Has anyone seen anyone selling a longer cord aftermarket? Of course I can use an extension cord but that just seems so messy.
Yes, the length of chord is an inconvenience. You can purchase longer cables from Amazon for around $8-$10.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
That's the standard length for Samsung devices. Not one of their strong points. Unsure as to just how much money they save by sending out these 'mini' cables with all their devices.

Probably has to do with the tablet's higher power consumption, limit on USB power input and electrical resistance with gauge and length of cable and keeping a balance to stay within minimum requirement. I noticed swapping my Nexus 7 original USB cable with a slightly longer one from my Sansung Galaxy Epic 4G changed the rate of charging as seen with the change in slope with built-in battery graph.

I have a 10ft cable on the way..... :good:
I just got my 10' data/charging cable in from Amazon. It was $7 delivered via Amazon Prime.
Mediabridge Hi-Speed USB 2.0 - (10 Feet) - A-Male to Micro-B Cable
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CTUIT20/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i06?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I tested it on the stock charger vs. the stock charging cable. And both cables charged the phone at the same 1900 rate (see attached screenshots). :good:
This should hopefully mean the phone charges at the same speed regardless of which cable is used.
And I put the cable into my computer and didn't have any trouble transferring data files around.
The cable is about 50% thicker than stock cable and appears to be very nice quality. The Micro-USB connector end is a little tight when plugging into the Galaxy S4 port. The connector ends are the same length.
I'm not able to test audio functionality.
It doesn't matter which cable you use if you use the stock wall plug.

Yea, I think its the wall plug that actually does the fast charging we all know and love.
I don't trust that app. I get 1900 or just about every cable I've tried, but the charge time doesn't T match with the numbers. BMW shows more accurate measurements. Not as real time results

Of course it does. You really have some reading to do if this is what you think.
Cable gauge and impedance of the connectors are the two hugest factors of a cable.

Yes and no.
You can get a wall-plug that has pins 2 & 3 shorted which does the fast charging.
Or you can use a standard charger and use a charging-only cable which has pins 2 & 3 shorted. Or you can modify your data/charge cable to be a charge-only cable.

Yeah, you're right that app was NOT accurate.
I found that you can view the file (see 1st attached pic) that shows you the correct charge rate, directly from the Android OS (battery_current_now). And this cable only charges at 1360. Which is still better than a Galaxy S3 stock charger/cable I believe.
So it's a good cable indeed. Just not gonna get a 1900 charge rate out of it.

i am using a usb 3.0 extension cable, which is 15ft long. i notice charging is a bit slow when using the extension cable. i really want a long cable, the outlet layout in my room is weird. any cable that is 15 or even 10 feet long that doesn't interfere with charging time? or is this just a case of power attenuation?
I doubt you gonna find a cable like that... Also the power loss is normal for such a long cable. I still remember from my electronics class when the teacher told us, that the longer the cable is, the more power it looses
I think you can make 50m without big loss of power.

Have you tried measuring the charging current? You could try Ampere (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-ampere-charging-meter-t3012890) to see if there is a real difference when comparing short/long cables. Then also, you might want to check if the charger - assuming you are using a charger and not simply charging from your pc - gives you the maximum output (galaxy s5 charges with 1.8A max, so a 2A-Charger would fit your needs best).
Kind regards,
Kenny

Taking run-of-the-mill usb cables (inc usb 3) as using an average of 24 gauge wires for the power lines, that calculator shows that 5v DC has a 15% drop over 15 feet, giving an output of 4.23v at 1 amp, and a drop of almost 31% at 2 amps giving an out put of just 3.46v.
The OP would need to get a good quality cable using 20 gauge wires for the power lines to reduce the voltage drop at 1 amp by just 6% or at 2 amp by 12%.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/JuicEBitzĀ®-Charger-Android-Tablets-BlackBerry-Black/dp/B010XWJBXQ
A cheap and nasty cable over 15 feet will absolutely hammer the output.
A better option would be to use a 15ft mains extension lead to move the outlet source closer and keep the usb lead on the charger to 5 or 6ft.
My bad, I missed the 'USB' part, was thinking OP was talking about purely a DC power adapter cable
I run CCTV cameras @ 20ft with 12v DC
They make these things called extension cords! we use AC for the simple reason that it travels over long distances well. Google Bell vs Westinghouse !

anyone who needs to ask will not know what "mains" means, see it all the time in 3d printing with the HBP's
You need a custom Kernel and a Rom Customizer app like Boeffla Config where you can set the Charging Current to a fixed value not depending on cable length
The best USB cables I've ever used come from a company called MediaBridge. You can get them on amazon for pretty cheap, and they are extremely high quality cables. I use a 10ft, and my phone charges just as fast as it does on a 4-ft cable.
Anker cables are great... faster then the oem cables.. substantially!

This cable it is specified as Faster Charging (Up To 2.4A).
But it product design this does not give me much of confidence, yesterday ordered one REMAX 2.4A(Max) this seems to have what needed for a six feet 2.4A cable.
The downside with REMAX this is flexibility, lots of copper inside makes it hard to twist it, or hide it when this crossing your office furniture.
Regarding REMAX cables, I need some help here from someone with Chinese education.
I need to find their exact cable specifications.
In the picture below they do mention some details, but I can not understand if they use metric or AWG.
Use a stronger Block
Large power block this is not needed.
People with technical background in electronics, them will possibly find as interesting my new article.

I use these with 2A charger and get average of 1200mA charge. The guage of the wire is smaller (ie thicker) and it works!
So in summary 10 foot cable charging at over 1A.

You can't argue with the fact that it works. I have 4 of these and they all perform well. If you want to pay for it I would be happy to crack one open and test the gauge on it.
