Now I'm coming from a well used note 1, the note 2 may well have been a lot better, but this is very impressive. I listened to Spotify for two hours, set up Gmail and exchange push email, messed around with it a lot during the day and I still have 44%.
I was thinking of getting the wireless charging back but don't think I'll bother if it is easily going to last a day with heavy use!

Impressive. #1 in my opinion is battery life. Wireless charging is just too cool and convenient to not use though. You do it everyday, mind as well save yourself a few seconds a day, it adds up!
Indeed, I am still tempted although I think I'll wait to see how thick the official wireless back cover is.
I've been using my device all day and connected to my Galaxy Gear and at end of the day battery still has 50% charge left. Very impressive.

To judge battery life accurately, you have to include a number of variables on your device's configuration
-How much screen on time(note 2 gets 5-7 hours rooted and rom'ed)
-Auto brightness or what percent brightness?
-How much time on LTE and how much on WiFi? weak or strong data signal?(red yellow or green in battery stats)
-WiFi and/or Bluetooth and/or GPS on or off when connected to LTE?
-How many reboots since last charged?
-How much data transferred through the radio?
-How many minutes of voice calls?
-Samsung power savings mode enabled or disabled?
-SPen finder on or off?
I might be exaggerating but I think that the above counts when you have thousands of people posting various findings with vague information

My comparison is against my other devices. My Note 2 would need a charge at the end of the day so for me the Note 3 has better battery life.

Actually they're not. It's like getting a new car with almost the same engine and transmission and just saying it's faster. How about some times to show how much faster.
Poster above said his Note 2 would already need a charge and he still has 50% battery left. Either his Note 2 battery was faulty or he has misjudged his usage on his new device. The 3 will have better battery life than the 2, but not double. Congrats to all the lucky ones that have it already!
Don't forget that it's new more efficient processor and Android 4.3 in note 3 in comparison note 2 and i logically assume that overall must be more energy efficient phone. I also believe that if it wasn't sammy wouldn't had put only some miliamps better battery but a lot bigger maybe making a bit thicker.
Just my 2 cents

Good point my Note 2 battery is not new. But the battery in the Note 3 holds more charge. Also Note 3 had BT4 which is very battery efficient.

Sure, old batteries may not be the best comparison, but new batteries aren't at the top of their game either. Lithium batteries generally need a few charge cycles to reach peak capacity. Maybe not scientific, but it's good to hear people are pleased with their initial results.

I'm def a heavy user so I usually get between 12-14hrs out of my battery
Maybe the better pole would be screen time? I get at least 4 hours of on screen time.
I am on the stock ROM. Most of the time i can manage 1 - 3 hours of screen time and 8-12 hours of battery life. Its not terrible but my 2 year old iPhone 3GS seemed to manage better when playing music. I use my phone at work and listen to music for about 6 hours a day with power amp. I also live in a heavy LTE area so most of the time I am on LTE and no wifi which just kills the battery. No power saving either.

I can't complain about this battery at all. This is some light to moderate use.

Light to moderate use yielded this!
im running the blazer rom v1.6 , im getting 14-16hrs of heavy use and usually have about 20% left at the end of the day before putting back on the charger and going to bed. wifi and bluetooth on all day also.
This was with moderate use for me...even with heavy use I get well over 14 hours and that's in an area with pair signal
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Moderate use 14 to 16 hours. I usually kill it while in bed playing with it.
Having said that I find heavy camera usage will kill it quite fast and I will have to recharge mid day. It feels abnormally fast but hard to say for sure.
Wow... how are some of the moderate users getting more than 14 hrs? When I don't use it much I get 24 hrs easy, using JuiceDefender and FreeGS ROM.. If I use it moderately it gets ~12, if I stream music from Pandora for around 4 hours it lasts <10

Guys, I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777226
And yes, I take the subway (to get to work) everyday and notice my battery drains quite rapidely afterwards (7h am to 16h pm without any usage, mainly standby). On weekends, my battery seems to do much better (15-20h moderate usage).
Today I was at 60% at 12h32pm and then 46% at 13h42 without any usage (lte and wifi on, stand by). I rebooted my SG3 at 13h55 while I was at 43%, since then much better, I'm at 40% at 15h12pm.
Anybody experiencing something similar ??

Best battery life of all my Samsung phones so far.
Lasts all day, even with leaving data and WiFi on.
Have to say I am pretty impressed, given battery life of the SGS2 and SGS1.
I am very impressed with the battery life on the phone! I work in an area with little to no service so my phone searches for signal all day. I usually spend about 10 hours at work a day and with moderate use I have enough battery to last all day. If I turn WiFi on phone stops searching and get even better battery life. This is the best phone I have had for battery life. I'm on t-mobile.
thinking about getting my battery swapped if VZW lets me (have had the phone since 7/10).. if not, then get a new one. but before i go into the store, i wanted to see if you guys think this is normal battery life from these screenshots. i have GPS off, Google location on, and only my Google account (Gmail, contacts, calendar) is in sync. i'm running a rooted stock rom (debloated VZW and Samsung apps by me).
in addition, the back of my phone gets really hot during regular data use (web, Facebook, Instagram, Engadget and Verge apps, ESPN, etc.. no games), to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold. i've heard that there might be a batch of bad batteries for the earlier shipments, so i was wondering if mine might be one of them. thanks for any input.

Do you have 4G on at all times? I think my battery might be pretty bad too...I've been losing 10% every hour, so my phone pretty much lasts only 10-12 hours. I'm impressed by your 1 day battery life. Even if I have wifi only on and turn 4g off, I still only get 10% every hour. I think something might be wrong with my battery...I've factory reset it many times before too, wiping cache, and dalviks, I'm now on the stripped rooted stock.
that's not bad battery life. Especially sense it looks like you are not in great coverage area.

haven't had a proper measurement of the temp, but it feels like it does reach the upper 90s, and that's with light web browsing, so that's what worried me.
it's just that i see people who claim "heavy use" and get 4+ hours of screen time, which i found hard to believe, if they really are pushing the phone a lot, so i just thought maybe something's up with mine. thanks for all the input so far.
Looking at your battery consumption log, I'd say your battery life is pretty great.
Seeing as how your cell standby is 50%, you're either using a lot of 4G or you're in a crappy signal area. Or both. Haha.
Even if you buy a new battery, chances are that you won't get better battery life. Just charge the phone overnight and unplug in the morning. As a general rule of thumb, if you can squeeze 16 hours of usage out of your phone, you're doing pretty great.
yup, that seems pretty darn good to me. I get about the same 4G coverage as you with Verizon in my home 2-3 bars max (-100 to -120dBm), and I get ~14 hours before my phone is about to die. I also think I just use my phone a lot more than you lol. You only had 2.45 min of on screen time in a little over 1 day. I usually have close to that in the 12-14 hour days with my phone.
Agree with last two post...what else are you looking for looks good....
Should I ask for a new battery? 3 hours 30 minutes 30 min screen time and down to 67% battery.

Hello there everyone.
I used to have a blackberry phone in the past and my battery life sucked.
I've been out of work recently and I noticed that I charge my phone quite often daily. I've had this phone for about 4 months now. In the past, since I'm either in the office or trying to catch some sleep, I get by with one charge a day. But now I can barely last 5 hours with a charge. Granted that I seem to be holding my phone always and always doing something with it every time that I'm awake.
Let's just segue a bit with my Blackberry experience since this might be affecting my mentality a bit.
I used to have a bb 9630 and that phone literally won't last through a work day without me plunging it in my office computer mid work day.
So now we come back to my Xperia Pro.
This is a screen shot that I took just now.

I have been on YouTube for at least 3 hours straight before I took this.
Is this normal consumption? I mean, does watching videos on YouTube for 3 hours drains your battery that drastically?
I really have a bad sense of estimating things so I really can't tell if that's normal or not.
Although when I unplugged my phone and didn't use it for 55 minutes, my battery still went down like 3-4 percent.

Many times the manufacturer will provide a crappy battery because they are cheap. One easy fix to a battery drain issue is upgrade the battery. MAh's (milliamp hours) are what you look for with a battery upgrade. Most batteries will specify the mAh value (common figures are 1200mAh, 1350mAh, 1500mAh etc) but basically the higher the mAh value, the longer the battery should last between charges.
Online auction sites and stores are an easy way to obtain one. I upgraded this phone battery from the stock battery, got one with 350 more mAh and the device will now last 2-3 hours longer with the same software.
Press Thanks if this helped!

I'm kinda a bit hesitant with using a non-manufacturer battery. And it is really hard to get a hold of in our country. Most of those auction sites won't ship internally.
I guess what I just want to know is if my usage reflects my battery consumption without any anomaly.
And another question, is that media server thing caused by youtube or was it because I have a live wallpaper activated?
Sent from my MK16i using Tapatalk 2
Well the live wallpaper doesn't help battery life either, but you probably have your screen too bright, and watching youtube videos means you probably have the screen on 100% of the time, takes a crapload of power as well. I would definitely find out what the media server is though.
Hello,
when youre watching Youtube Videos on your Smartphone,
your battery drains very fast.
3-4 hours of screen on time is normal for the Samsung Galaxy S3 - obviously, a different device - but it doesn't exactly sound like a shocking figure to me that you're at 44% after 3 hours of YouTube. The fact that you have so much battery left AFTER watching video for 3 hours straight is very good and wouldn't call that drastic at all. I would call that good battery life.
3-4% an hour when not in use is probably due to having lots of apps constantly waking the device or having them use GPS, et cetera. You can use something like BetterBatteryStats to determine what's doing it if you're not sure.
Thanks for all the reply. I'll follow your advice and see what happens.

How is the battery life? From what I have seen its mixed some people are getting good and others are getting terrible. I normally use the screen in total maybe 3-4 hours a day and playing music from google play about an hour total so could I make it through a charge on that?
it will depend on the quality of your phone/data connection mostly, and how you set up your phone. i use purely lte, as i have a great lte connection, and see a minimum of 5-5.5 hours screen on time.

I get around 2-3 hours of screen time. If you don't mess with your phone and install custom kernels and undervolt and all that, I guess that's that you get. I would say battery is comparable to the iPhone 5s.
This is with sync off and location off btw.
I'm getting excellent battery life as well. On days of light usage I don't even need to plug it in when I go to bed, I just top it up while I get ready for work in the morning. On days when I use it heavily, I still have 30% or more left before putting it down for the night. Screen time varies from 2-5 hours, depending on what exactly I've been doing and how good my signal is. I have no issues at all with the battery performance, it's awesome.
Any bets on when dicecuber will appear in this thread to tell us how absolutely terrible the battery is?
Using Franco kernel, 4.5hrs SOT is a walk in the park. It's better than my SGS4 I came from.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 2
Battery life is not a worry I get better time on this then any of my previous phones and have no worry's of it lasting through the day. Although I am a little jealous of my wife's insane battery life on her xperia z1.
So you know where I'm coming from, I upgraded from a 3a, but so far...?
The fingerprint reader is ace, and works no matter how sweaty my finger might be. No issues at all. It just works.
Screen is great, and far better than the 3a when it comes to colour temp.
Battery is big! From 100% to 15% today, day 2, and I've managed 7.5 hours SOT. That's with YouTube videos, browsing, a few hours of podcasts over Bluetooth.
Tensor is fast. I mean an abacus is fast compared to the 3a, but still, this thing is smooth, and the phone isn't even notably warm https://nox.tips/ https://xender.vip/.
And finally, this thing feels big compared to the 3a, but way more premium. It doesn't feel cheap.
So while there's lots of negative reviews out there from tech reviewers, hopefully you can find balance in the voice of a normal phone user.
Also coming from a 3a (XL though) I agree on how premium this feels (and is) comparatively. The screen is absolutely improved and the SOC is night an day better.
Thats said, FP under the screen sucks....I REALLY wish this still had the rear mount physical sensor. While I havent had the same nightmare stories others have this is no where near as good a FPR as the 3a was.
Battery is less vs my 3a XL but that had a lot bigger batter vs the normal 3a. Heat is a mixed bag, sometimes its unnoticed and sometimes it gets very toasty. Its a lot better now with my current kernel vs stock, but with added power comes added heat.
All in all though, yes depending on what device youre coming from this is a LOT better. This isnt a premium, flagship device and people need to stop comparing it with them. Its also not a cheap Chinese brand with questionable everything. This is the nicest "A" series device Ive seen/used.

No screen on time, just my normal phone use, and Google says It lasts 24h, it's not true

Ahhh sorry. Didn't mean to sound like a ****. I could have just asked if you meant screen on time. Thanks for confirming. Yeah LTE and WiFi when possible, if screen on/battery drain is important should make a big difference.
Out of the box this is one of the worst devices I've used in a LONG time. However, my old OnePlus 8 (dd) had to go. Just to charge I had to hold the cord at an angle, and quick charge stopped working. Then random reboots and freezes killed me. I could tell the phone was on its last legs. Same glitches regardless on stock/custom. Battery lost a lot of charge in one year.
Either way after trade in I paid $188. It's a sidegrade, which is totally fine. Most CPUs perform about the same outside of benchmarks. Battery and heat are my only complaints. Hopefully the 8a/9a are better because the rectangular shape, and camera visor have really grown on me.
Deep sleep 2 hours. Use 20 minutes, battery down to 83% :/ Honestly it's just terrible. The phone gets hot just flipping around FB. Otherwise it's fine. I'll hang onto it for a year and trade it in for 7a hoping they get these issues solved somewhat. We'll have a clue with 7 and 7 Pro. The heat I can deal with but battery life is weak. That also I can deal with but just disappointing given the device is great otherwise.

24 hours off the charger with 4h screen on including 50 min of gps, browsing, YouTube, and some music streaming. Battery down to 43% which is acceptable for my needs.
Have found that PIA VPN was burning huge amount of battery... Much better battery life without it. Looking at about 8 hours onscreen over a 20 hours with LTE.
