Does anyone know if a custom recovery is coming and if development beyond JCase's root exploit is occurring?
Give it time.... Locked bootloader is the issue..

no one knows... not even Jcase or MattGrolof (sp?) LOL
if you've rooted and downloaded the Xposed Installer.. install and activate GravityBox... if you haven't already.
It gives A LOT of features to the phone that we are used to from all the various roms weve used over the last few phones. (CM, Elemental X, Xenon, Carbon, SlimBean, etc., etc.) All on stock LOL im almost tempted to say screw unlocking the bootloader and not installing a custom rom because I have the stability and battery life of stock..but with the features I loved on my Razr HD but without random reboots.. I just want some inverted system apps like Contacts, and MMS...but i can wait LOL
Thank you for the constructive reply

Keep in mind that, although the DE for the Maxx exists, no one has it. I ordered mine day one, and it hasn't shipped yet.
I feel you on the impatience though.

No problem at all..i know we all want stuff to come out the day the phone does..thats why I waited so long to get my RazrHD because I wanted to unlock the bootloader and rom it from Day 1 LOL but I also knew that these phones Ultra/Maxx/Mini/MotoX are pretty much vanilla android out of the box.. so there isn't much modification needed to make them close to AOSP phones..
Got my DE Maxx today and Dhacker has CWM and TWRP on the Moto x thread. If development picks up for x and ultra you will have to watch both threads as it seems people are leaning towards the x, however it is nearly identical software to the maxx so they will most likely be interchangeable. I.E. the moto x CWM works on my DE Maxx.

Yeah!! Using moto X's CWM on my Maxx and works perfectly!!
Is there someone who can clear as to how similar both the devices are and up to what extent we can flash moto x's files?! I mean could we flash custom ROMs as well, is by switching kernels or something?! Or is it just gonna be like a leap of faith?!

Although ROMs (notably CM 10, Vitreous) are being developed for the XT926 Dev Edition, it seems that the XT925 is being left out .
Anyone aware of any initiative towards the XT925?
There seems to be next to no development for the XT925 I'm giving it a month before i dump this and go back to the HOX

The phone is still very new guys, safestrap was only just made available for the locked down devices. Have a little patience. I'd expect to see a fair amount of work done with these phones.
Even without Safestrap, the bootloader can be unlocked, which makes the XT925 a nice candidate for playing with ROMs.
I'd LOVE to give CM10 a try on my device.
Yes, I am impatient!
Would love to know as well, as I recently picked one up in Aus.
When will be the first official custom roms available for Moto G? Cyanogen Mod, Paranoid Android, Carbon Rom, Slim Kat?
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its already near pure android and xposed can give you all the options and features those roms give....so demand/need for custom roms is low. (Until updates are no longer made for the g anyway)
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
Then the Nexus devices should have the lowest demand of those ROMs... oh wait.

They don't get their warranties voided when you play with them. More than likely another factor with Motorola's. (aside from dev editions)
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
We can forget about an official ParanoidAndroid. They only build officially for Nexus and Oppo. For CM, we would need a maintainer, and for other custom ROMs, we can only hope for their respective devs to give attention to the Moto G.

The same goes for Xposed framework. To use it, you need root, to root the phone, you need to unlock the bootloader.
Oh....we lose our Motorola features too. Many wouldn't like that.

Haven't you learned yet that asking for ETAs is verboten?
They will be available when they're ready. CM11 is in the process of getting merged in I believe, I'm working on Omni (having some issues with modem initialization currently that causes the device to continually reboot, will be looking in more detail tonight.)
Omni nightlies may never happen until the device can get a dedicated maintainer with more time than I have.
Moto has offered a warranty replacement of a Maxx for my X. I know the boot sound will bother me a lot. But I thought I would ask If others may have made the same swap. I do wear an xl glove so the size increase is OK.
Are slip-proof rubber cases & screen protectors hard to get?
I've plated around with both and although I don't care for the droid branding....I loved the battery life... I'm actually waiting for an X swap for a maxx myself right now. I'm just bummed neither one I am able to root so far

RAZR Maxx has definitely got its niche: battery. You can also root the Maxx, I have no idea what the other guy is talking about, Google it there are tons of root methods (PC, one-click etc). I would recommend the Maxx, and AFAIK there are a good amount of accessories for it. You can remove the boot sound after you root by deleting /system/media/audio/startup.ogg or the similar, you will find it in one of the sub-folders. It will be an ogg file. If you choose not to root you can still remove it by creating a flashable update.zip to remove that one file (false signed with toolkit to pass md5 check). Hope this gives some insight,

Root on 422 but not 44.

More on the diy update.zip please? Details?
Seems it would come with the latest 4.4 so I would have no root.

Yes this method is not very published, but you can do a lot of root things with it without actually having root. My main purpose to create these was to push ad-blocking hosts files to peer's devices without having to root them. Basically, you must have the know-how knowledge on how to code updater scripts, I will not go into detail on this as there are guides.. But once you have your package lined up, you're all set to go to flash it, if you have cwm installed. Without root, you have no cwm. So that's where I learned how to fake sign those update.zips to flash thru stock. Just get signtool or better yet there's more reliable ones getting out there just Google search "update.zip signer" and before you know it you can mod all you want without even having root. One thing to note is that your bootloader must not have any signature checking on main /system partition or whatever you're modding.
Hope this helps,

After some research, I think so yes. Check out this article: the OP states that the KitKat zip can be flashed regardless of locked bootloader. So now as long as you can fake-sign your own zips you can mod all you want. Sometimes (a lot of times) the signing doesn't work right (and you'll read that a lot of places) but that won't hurt your device, the recovery will simply deny your update until you get it right.
Edit: I am not sure if this goes for *latest* moto's, as you put emphasis on in your post.
Whoops forgot to put in the article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577977

Did you mean to leave a link?
Many of us X/Ultras would love such an opportunity.
Chances are that either phone you get, it might be on 4.4.2 already. So if the boot loaders can't be unlocked, you won't have root for now. And if they are 4.2.2 or 4.4, you might be able to root.
Its gonna be luck of the draw.
I'd take the maxx for sure personally. Its the same phone, with a bigger screen and battery. Win win.

You can't, this is a classic example of someone stating what works for another device and assuming it works for every device.

You can roll the dice and hope for an X that isn't on 4.4.2.....or get the better phone.
You may end up with root on either or no root....I'd go for the phone I prefer.
Root is not essential on either.

There might be tons of root method available for RAZR Maxx, but this is a forum for Droid MAXX - not RAZR - and unless you are on 4.2.2 there is no root method available for the MAXX

If you are about timely updates to Android, I'd stick with the X. Otherwise, the Maxx is a great phone, especially the battery life. It'll be hard to tell the difference between the X and the Maxx from a usability point of view.
The Droid sounds are so amazingly annoying, though it's good that you don't have to restart the phone all that often. It's pretty stable.
As others have said, if root is important to you, it'll probably not happen with the Maxx unless you're lucky to get it with 4.2.2 still installed. I don't care about root myself (in fact, I really don't want the phone rooted.)

Sure. If you like Zagg-style, Zagg and Skinomi make them, and Verizon sells the non-wet apply versions. I think that there are enough TPU cases that you should find something.
Went from Ultra Maxx Dev Ed to Moto X Dev Ed.
Love the clean, mostly bloat-free X but the battery blows. I was getting two full days of the Maxx with still 10-15% whereas on the X I am down to 10-15% after 8 hrs.
So- I would love to run the X firmware on my Maxx, stock as possible, just BL unlocked (Dev Ed) so I can root and enable native tether/hotspot.
If anyone would be willing to point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
Seems like there's more than one firmware and way to do it so I'd be grateful for a little guidance.
Oh, and I want to run 4.4.4.
Thanks to anyone willing to help!
Would this be the best way to go for what I'm describing? --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/dro...4-4-snakes-venom-4-4-4-port-build-64-t2828366
I had Venom on my Maxx Dev Edition 4.4.4 (23.3.23) and it worked perfectly. Just understand what the additional zips do before you flash them....if you're trying to stay close to stock.
I just switched back to stock using Samurai's RSDFlasher once the 23.3.24 update (and FXZ!) was released.

the easiest option to do that its flashing Snake's Venom Rom, because its basically Moto X Firmware adapted to maxx, thats the way to go.

You can't unlock that, and probably can't root it, yet. However, there is root exploit over in the Razr M forum that might be getting developed for the HD. Swing over there and check it out.

Thanks, Actually the main issue my brother is facing is that he says screen randomly turns off and never come again even though phone is on and working, then you have to restart the phone in order to make it work. What could cause this issue?
