Description:
I like my screen real-estate. Going from S4 -> G2 I was sad that despite the larger screen, I had *less* real estate because of the on-screen soft keys.
I know a lot of you use GMB Hide Soft Keys and it is a great app, however, I personally prefer to have an always-on, always-available set of navigation keys.
Enter this mod. It shrinks the nav bar down considerably, increasing screen real estate. Honestly, I do not know how well this works throughout various apps as I really haven't done a long-term burn-in. So as the disclaimer says, use this at your own risk and let me know what you find.

Gr8 mod. Phone is almost perfect! Anyway to do this for landscape as well? Thanks for the hard work! Now just have to get rid of carrier I'd in status bar! I was able to do it in build.prop, but that put a generic 4g next to the signal full time...

UPDATE
This Mod is like DamageR_2.7 ULT editionI wouldve just updated, but
there are ALOT of changes so it is separate. Same deal as with
DamageR though, all the fixxes in 1 rom; so it is large, i spent yesturday slimming it
down, i knocked off 10mb. Takes ave 8-9min. for initial boot, from then
on its business as usual. If you are coming from DamageR just flash over
Any other than damage based you should wipe. For those that dont like
certain theme elements check attatchments for stock flashbacks.... Feedback is welcome:
whining is NOT.

A few days ago i started on a theme but then my 7zip took a $h!t,and i lost a
little time but while i was doing less i was thinking more. So I came up with
alot cooler theme Its my H3r0 Theme & dialer plus an optimized version of
my DamageR_mod(H3r0 as in Optimus Prime). Its really big and im working on a update once again
to slim it down,2 more themes too. After first boot though all is well once
again in the land of android. Just like DamageR, get all the L8est fixes in one
rom, no extra flashing
UPDATE: Slimmed it down 10mb,added new icons, touched up theme
and swapped jog bar buttons
OptimusRom Includes:
+Custom Boot
+Custom H3r0 theme and dialer
+AOSP Dialer if you like
+AOSP KB
+Transformers Font(stock is included)

When i first started this i didnt realize i couldve made them opaque, so i
just patterned the stat bar and made it 30% transparent so i could see

rosie and jog buttons. ill have to go back and find them again, so i just
put it up and ill get it when i get a chance.....Its not as easy to fix them

so far, pm me and ill get you a cool kb. Also before DamageR i made a
vanilla mod, that im revamping with what i know now. If you are not a sense
fan you would like this one. The bootscreen from that one is my favorite.
its called 3-d mod. Also if you want another boot screen you have another
one in the system/media folder, just use file explorer go into the folder
rename it bootanimation.zip and change the name of the other one by a

I found a circle battery mod developed for the Nexus One that actually works and looks great on our Hero. The only problem is that once it's flashed the triangle roaming indicator comes up in status bar and in on the lock screen. However, the percent in the middle works perfectly and the battery animation is awesome.
Does anyone know if how they can port this to our phone? Or does anyone know how I can disable the roaming indicator message? I'm sure there's a way to go in through adb but haven't been able to figure out what the code might be.
Here is the circle battery mod for Nexus that I'm talking about and using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754873
Now the battery mod that I know works but needs some refinement is found in the downloads section of the thread above and it's the one called
8/29--CM6-SuperCircleC-plus--no other theming done.
Edit: I know that Gomorrah has a circle battery mod with theme for Cyanogen but I am looking for other options as I tried his and wound up with a whole theme rather than just a circle battery.

I fixed the issue with the missing .png files
The battery now circles all the way around when charging.

Just flashed it, works fine for me so far though I did notice, the charging doesn't actually circle all the way back to the 12 o'clock point... It just runs until the point of charge at the time the charger was plugged in... could be the intent though...
Lol I noticed that too. I will see if I can fix it. Or if anyone wants to take a crack at it go for it. I am learning still.
EDIT:
I move the nexus battery mod images into the super circle mod res folder. The super circle only has 20 images for recharge vs the nexus battery mod has 32 images. If someone could change that and assign those images it will display properly. I have no clue how to edit I would assume a xml file to include these new images.

Yes it will but with a few issues. I was a able to flash the original file made for the nexus one running cm6 onto the hero with no modifications. The problems I was having were that my phone was stuck with the roaming notification on. But the circle battery worked and looked great.
I've since stopped using it until someone who knows what they're doing can make it work correctly for cm6.

Update: Not too bad. It's kinda feels like sense is on Gingerbread. The Wifi symbol isn't the same as Gingerbread but still the same look. I like it! The numbers are really hard to read though for the percentage. Any way to make those bigger or stand out more?

Is there any way to change the nav keys to be smaller and add a menu button?
pretty much all custom ROMs have this, but there aren't any stable ones yet, and I am thinking there might be a framework.res or systemui.apk mod I can make to at least do that much. I hate those big buttons taking up my screen real estate..

The Nexus 4 had a flashable zip that just modified some framework files I believe that you could flash over stock before this was incorporated into every major ROM.

In jellybean the navbar pngs were in systemui/res/drawable-*dpiHere*
They're named something like

You could try editing them in Ps and replace the old ones with edited ones.

It simply changes the actual image (png file) of the softkey, so if you select an image that is smaller, the softkey will subsequently be smaller.

Honestly i can't remember but i think it allowed custom images so my guess is you can make an image within a size limit and it should be fine if you cant change the size of the standards.

I'll gladly donate to anyone who can shrink down the navbar size on the Nexus 5. And/Or make it transparent on third party launchers. (Nova)
Here's the thread from the LGG2. I doubt it's too hard to do.

Check out Candyshop thread in the Themes section, looks really promising right now.

You can use UDN or SoftKeyZ . Both of these work flawlessly
Hello,
could anyone please make some navbar mods.
Like 36 dp or 32dp, in my opinion the navbar is just too huge.
Thanks.
Depends on what ROM you have as they're not universal. Need framework, systemui apk as well as a deodexed rom.
oh sry.
For stock rom
Edit:
I already tried it myself, but i cant get i to work. So it would be awesome if someone could make a 36dp version for stock.

Stock rom won't work because it is odexed and not deodexed

Until someone makes mods or custom Roms which are able to change the size of the navbar, you can adjust the DPI in build.prop, which will make the navbar smaller.

If it's any help, I've dropped my DPI to 380 in build.prop. Perfect for me

Changing sizes of navbar is easy. I've done it in the past. There aren't much custom ROMs at the moment, only choice that I would choose is SlimKat but still on stock for myself. So if you guys want it done then attach systemui.apk, framework-res.apk and I can do it.

Stock DPI is WAY too high on this device. You don't get to take advantage of the great resolution on the screen unless you reduce it. I highly recommend doing this as well.
Anyone been able to add a menu button? Can't seem to figure that on out..

Would love this as well... Stock APK's linked below.
Framework APK
System UI APK
Can someone point me in the direction to where I can learn how to change the DPI in "build.prop"?
Please note I really have no idea where to start, but would love to know how to do this in the future as most nav bars always seem to be too large. Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Edit-
I came across these tutorials. http://modstorm.co/tutorials/ Would you say its tutorials for decompiling android apps, and changing navbar height are accurate?
Thanks

Visit the play store. Download Rom Toolbox Lite. Open the app. Slide to the performance tab. Select build.prop Editor. Find the "ro.sf.lcd_density". Change the value. $profit$.

Yeah, it does. I wish I knew how to change just the nav bar . I'm just praying that PA comes out with their stuff really soon.

Is there a way to completely remove the Nav Bar. I do worded an app from the play store but it made my phone freak out really bad.
Nexus ONE
There is 1 custom rom right now that has adjustable nav bar height. Released today I think. Not sure if it will disappear if you set it to 0%, but you can shrink it down. 60% works well for me.
