Hi all,
anybody went to the trouble of opening the dock ?
I have some dirt under one key, pressing it normal is not recognized, pressing it strong is working. I'd like to clean it, if opening is an easy task. Anybody has some experience ?

You can have a look on youtube, I remember watching videos of opening the dock.
However, there is no easy way (if at all) to access to the keyboard itself.
You might try with an air spray to move the dirt. In my case (spilled juice that glued keys), several applications of WD40 did the trick (as seen on another forum).

Naturally I bought a g Tablet Saturday and Woot has them today for almost $100 less! Oh well. Big big big improvement from my old FlyTouch2 which was a great idea poorly executed.
Immediately flashed VEGAn with supplements etc. All working VERY well but a few questions/observations.
1) If I wanted to hook this up to a USB or Bluetooth modem (well, actually a BlackBerry) it looks like there is no setup for this? Yes, I know if I could find a way to make the BB broadcast WiFi but its corporate so that's a nonstarter.
2) When I hold down the power button, the menu that comes up it clipped off at the bottom. Is that normal?
3) Screen lock on Kindle software is not getting the accelerometer fix somehow. The trick was to put the thing in portrait UPSIDE DOWN and lock the screen. That caused it to lock it 180 degrees off. But then when it is locked you can go back to right side up (to me, right side up is with the buttons to the top). Of course, if you want to lock it another way you have to experiment.
4) Camera Fun shows camera upside down. No big deal -- again accelerometer I think.
5) Sometimes I am sure the machine is asleep and when I turn it on it is booting from the birds screen. Anyone else seeing this?
6) I don't understand the .nomedia thing although I've read a lot about it. I don't seem to get files erased, but nothing shows up in Video. But if I navigate to the folder (on /mnt/sdcard2) and play videos that's fine. Then later the files will show up in video. Whoops spoke to soon. Now they are gone. What's up with that?
7) My old tablet had GPS but without the external antenna it was worthless. But it still managed to find rough location with WiFi somehow. I assume by figuring out the geographic location of the IP. That doesn't seem to work on this machine. Yes Use Wireless networks is checked in Location and security.
8) What's with the little plastic cover? How hard is it to take out? I don't want a little rubber dingle rolling around inside.
8) In System Preferences, About Device | Status consistently crashes.
9) Does the audio jack support a headset or just headphones? Yeah I know -- I could just try it.
If it matters I'm using Launcher Pro.
Still and all the VEGAn ROM is superb. Compared to the FlyTouch this is super fast, the screen is a joy, and the battery life wonderful. And with the woot deal only about $80 more than a FlyTouch2.
Ok I'll answer some of my own questions:
5) I think this is the unresponsive power button problem. If you press and wait it seems ok. If you press, get impatient and press again you might reboot.
9) No, at least not with a Blackberry headset.
Most of these are answered on the forum somewhere, but I'll give it a shot..

I get this sometimes, too. It is a known issue, and there may be solutions out there... I just deal with it.

Known issue.
These aren't much help (maybe reassurance?)
1) Pretty sure it's wifi only. Have trawled the internet looking for a usb or bluetooth alternative because wifi hammers the phone battery
2) It happens on mine as well, so it's not just you
5) Same here - I just turn it off when not in use now
7) Only GPS functionality seems to come with the need for an external GPS unit
8) Think this is normal
(Re reading above, it looks like I'm negative re VEGAn - this is not the case. It is way better than what came standard and does everything I need it to do)
Yeah I like it too. Haven't tried the others, but very satisfied with Vegan.
Another observation: Long pressing the Menu button (hardware) brings up the keyboard. However, long pressing the menu button on the status bar does NOT have that behavior.
Clemsyns newest kernel will fix sleep issues. Also has some other great improvements too.
Buttons on status bar do not respond to long presses. Home doesn't bring up its usual long press of recent apps either. Funny, i Never even tried long press on status bar keys before now.

I have Pershoot's kernel. I'll try changing. I presume I shouldn't need to clear too many things in CWM after flashing a kernel. Maybe the Dalvik cache?
yup, I'm not sure if it's just my Surface but sometimes when searching the web to kill time, I sometimes cannot right click (hold down touch)
lets say I was to open a link in an other tab, if I touch and hold down to open the menu it appears for a second, then buggers off. and advice?
Cheers
I have the same issue. Sometimes re-opening a tab works, sometimes not.
Odd... sorry, I haven't seen this. When it's happening in IE, does the same problem happen elsewhere too (for example, can you right-click the taskbar or desktop)?

Same issue, when I got my replacement from Microsoft it was fine. You could always try a refresh... that does it. Also, have you used the jailbreak? That sometimes seems to mess it up.

I have tried a jailbreak, but I don't want to bugger up the device, (just like all of my other gadgets)
I am thinking about having another exchange my surface again because I'm having trouble with my micro HDMI slot... (meaning I have to hold it in tight to actually get a signal on the tv)
But thanks for the help.

I had issues with my Asus TF700t that quite often it did not react on touch gestures.
And on the home screen the "change backround" dialog opened sometimes without any touch on the device.
This happend very very often when it was in the dock, but also without the dock (less occurence).
Now i know that the reason are ghost touches. By the usage of touch test apps (e.g. "Simple Touchscreen Tester" oder "Yet Another MultiTouch Test") i realized the ghost touches.
This touches are recognized always on the same coordinates. The multitouch test app detects 4 fingers on the same y-axis.
When the tab is in the dock and i open it completely to the maximum the two bolts from the dock are pressing very strong to the background of the screen glass. This is causing the ghost touches.
I opened the tab and tried to find what could be wrong (especially on the area where the touches are detected).
Anyhow i could not find anything. The only thing i noticed was the on the y-axis of the ghost touches the screen is fixed on the left and the right.
I check everything else closed the case ... but the ghost touches are still present.
Any idea how to fix the issue??? Who else realized the same issue???
Attached some screen shots from the touch test apps.

Sounds like you have a digitiser hardware issue to me. Had the same on my Surface RT. Only fix was to get it replaced.
Yeah, I just got mine back from warranty digitizer recalibration.

Another TF700T here that just returned from RMA with digitizer repair. Went very smoothly for me and I have a TF700T that again works extremely well.
Do they replace parts or just recalibration? Is it possible to so this myself?
I have unlocked bootloader and i do not know if they will repair it without any problem. Any experience on this?
Hi,
First, sorry for my english...
Second, I have same problem since saturday 24 august with my TF700T. Buy november 2012.
I tried to updated to android 4.2 But it didn't solve my pb.
I try "Multi Touch test" app and I observed same problem than mr_cg. Thanks for your good description "Ghost touch"
Ghost disappear when i unplug and re-plug dock, (some time two or three time) but just for some second ...

If you are root, you can perhaps try this app:
ILITEK Touch Utility
or
(less chance i think, it did for S2,S3) TouchScreenTune
Me i am not root, but if it is working for you, perhaps i will try to be.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the hint. I tried the apps, but both do not solve my issues.
ILITEK ... descriptions sounds good, but unfortunately not working (i get always "access denied" even i have root for sure).
TouchScreenTune ... Based on description it should be also good tool to reduce/improve situation with ghost touches. Anyhow ... it is not working with TF700t.
I am just thinking if i should open the case again???
If with root permissions you don't find solution ... I think i should call Asus support for my first RMA..
snif snif.
Thanks for your return. I win a lot of time.
Same issue
I'm having the same issue here, but only when docked. Seems like I'll stop using the dock since I am out of waranty because I unlocked the bootloader ...:S
I've been having a similar issue very badly on the right side of my screen, it was practically unusable. I am also out of warranty because I'm unlocked. What I did to make it at least somewhat usable was go into the build prop and change my max touch screen events from 200 to 4, and changed my touch sensitivity from .001 to 1 (this setting may have only been available on CROMI. Anyway, now my touchscreen doesn't work on the right side, however it does work everywhere else, and most importantly I can still use the tab as a laptop in its dock. It's a bumm it doesn't work right, but it's better than a total loss!
Sorry guys, it is a failed design problem due to connection to the touch screen. see my post in the "so i took it apart" thread.
Cost me a ruined lcd screen to figure it out

What a great thread! Thanks, I've posted this elsewhere but having just send my TF700 back to ASUS I now have a pretty good idea of what might have been wrong with it. Here's what I posted and what I've told them anyway. I've overlooked the Ghost touches unfortunately, so I will let them know that (if they don't already)......any comments welcome...
Asus Transformer S/N D20KAS016975
I've struggled with this tablet since purchase in April this year, not being at all familiar with tablets I did not know whether it was just me, the general setup, or the tablet itself at fault. Most certainly the performance is not satisfactory. I have done three 'Factory Resets' and numerous Soft Resets.
Intermittently, the tablet will scroll and flash through various apps, when I open it. Originally File Manager would open itself up, then I got the feeling the Weather app would upset things. Sometimes a browser would make it do the same. Then I tried various Launchers, but the best of them (I think) sometimes shows the menu unannounced. Same thing, on and off until I intervene.
It is also prone to do this just sitting open by itself.
Clearing the caches sometimes fixes this. Sometimes this will stop by itself, other times I need to either close the lid, press the lock button, or turn it off. Then it will be OK.
At times Gmail will scroll randomly through the accounts, messages, labels etc.
Every browser I've tried will sometimes shut itself off, especially if I try to type something into a message box, usually when I've spent some time doing this!
Occasionally I can feel a slight tingling sensation when I'm lightly touching the back of the screen.
One other thing: When left overnight the mouse doesn't work and the tablet needs to be turned off and on again for the mouse to work. I also think the screen doesn't turn off sometimes (can see a light).
At other times the whole thing works just fine.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Grant

Tablet arrived back this morning and seems all OK. Report indicates they replaced the LCD panel (new) & replaced the touch controller board (also new). And did various tests. Good service I think, no fuss. I'll let you know how it's going in a few days.

Grant,
Was your tablet still under warranty? Did they charge anything? I wonder if they redesigned the digitizer connection or just put a new screen which will wear out as well. The digitizer connector runs along the bottom left of tablet screen. Same area is being pressed when you close dock, which wears it out.
You can go to developer settings and enable "show touches" (lowers tablet performance) then press on the bottom left edge of the screen, roughly 1/3 point of its length, and see if you get the ghosts to appear.

Yes, still under warranty (problem was there from day 1 although I didn't realise it at the time) and no charge. See attached pdf Customer report. Shows replacement Led panel, & controller board. No sign of ghost touches so far, and really working well actually. Early days yet, but I also note elsewhere in these forums someone mentioned their tablet not working properly 'upside down'. I neglected to mention it earlier but upside down isn't as funny as his respondents made out. I use mine often lying on the couch watching TV, with the tab upside down. Reason I mention it now is that mine acted up in those circumstances too. Anyway, that's fixed too.
Hello tf300 users, here is my problem: a while ago my tf300tg was hit by mistake of course and the gorilla glass with the touch broke. No problem here... I`ll just replace it. Now before I buy a new one I noticed a problem, the tablet does random clicks on the screen like it would have a bad touch screen, but... the touchscreen is disconnected from the board . This problem comes after I use the tablet for a while. It starts random programs and I can even see the place it clicks. What could the problem be. Now I am using it with the tf keyboard just like a laptop, but its really annoying those auto clicks (

I some cases, disconnecting the cables stops the ghost touches; in others, it don't. The only cure is to replace the dig., which BTW is not gorilla glass. That's why they scratch so easily.

No, I dont have root access... I found a program on google play that disables the touch screen but now the problem is that while the program is active the touch on the keyboard is also unusable...So close... if I could find a program that disables the touch but lets the external mouse do its work
Hi everybody,
I'm new, I've just registered to ask your help. I've already found useful info on xda several times, and I hope to fix this problem too.
After having fallen on the floor, my xperia U screen doesn't work properly anymore. The phone is working, the touch is working, but the sceen is black: when you turn on the phone, the screen is back-enlighted, then turns black and if you touch the power button the screen flashes briefly showing correctly but only for a fraction of second.
What to do? I disassembled the phone to check inside integrity and I didn't found anything clearly wrong. Should I buy another screen and try to change it, or you think that the problem is elsewhere?
I put a link to the video of my xperia U showing the problem:
wwwDOTvideosproutDOTcom/video?id=0d19d245-4079-408a-b5dc-3ca5cb339904
(sorry for putting the link even if I have to wait 10 messages before being allowed, but I think that the video is the best way to show you the problem)
thank you guys
Hmm...theoretically (not necessarily correct but may be), each type of screen has this thin file of wires (it's like a flat-translucent sheet of plastic with parallel black stripes like you often find in monochrome displays) soldered to the board. Maybe that part broke?
I don't know but it's definitely not a software problem.

Thank you for tha answer,
well, I tried to check each internal connection, nothing seems out of its place, how to say... of course I have not an expert point of view
The strange fact is that I would understand if the screen wouldn't show anything ever, but when I press the power/standby button the screen flashes and for a very brief second it works normally....
