I love my tf700t but I am also tired of how slow it is. My wife has a Samsung 10.1 note and from off to power up it takes her about 30 sec to get to the desktop and it takes me about 2 minutes. My screen is better than hers of course but loading apps and switching apps is slow and I get apps freezing and the popup asking if I want to wait or kill it.
Wifi is there but not as good as hers. We recently went on vacation and I installed copilot nav software 1.3g on both tablets. Hers was done in about 30 minutes and mine took about 4 hours.
Very frustrating. I have an extended warranty on it and I can either take it back to see if they can do something with it or I can ditch the warranty and flash it and hope that will improve the situation.
I know that most people here say that flashing really makes a big difference but does it seem that mine is a bit too slow to be normal???

Out of the box, Samsung is smoother and faster than the tf700... The internet on the tf700 is very slow with the stock firmware. It was the reason why I was here in the first place...
Well I guess that answers that question. My Asus warranty has expired but the wife bought an extended one. Will have to check and make sure they don't care about unlocking and rooting. Then maybe I can end my frustration.

You are unlocked? Dude - just run CROMI-X on the tablet and you're gonna love it! The TF700 with CROMI-X is probably the best device I ever owned!
It sucks on stock, yes. But with that custom rom this tablet soars!!

I am not unlocked yet. I don't like the idea of having to use Asus unlock tool and letting them know that I have unlocked the tablet. Just a phobia about nosy companies.
If it doesn't scrweup my extended warranty I will bite the bullet and do it
I was in the same boat (2min + boot, slow and lagging) until I finally got fed up enough to unlock and now can enjoy the tablet again. I've been rooted from the beginning but its been no help fixing the problem. Now it's faster than its ever been and I have both CROMi-X and Cyanogenmod installed for a little variety. I hadn't flashed anything since my OG Droid days but with a little research on XDA and a little trial and error, it was quickly unlocked and running smooth. Best decision I could of made.

So I guess it's unlock, root, TWRP and then rom of my choice. You say you have CROMi-X and Cyanogenmod. I didn't know you could have two roms installed at the same time???
Just my opinion here but when you unlock and flash custom Roms will make the device faster compared to stock but compared to the note it will still be slower probably...
As long as you don't compare it side by side the TF700 is okay though.

First I am on 10.6.1.14.10 so that seems to limit me on some items, sigh.
First - unlocking using the Asus unlock tool. Is there any other way to unlock??
Second - Root using debugfs. Can this be done with goomanager or am I ahead of myself?
Third - NVFlash tool
Fourth - TWRP with goomanager
Fifth - Rom of my choice
Right or any mistakes??

Sorry, but you got some more reading to do.
On the 10.6.1.14.10 firmware you cannot root - at least not with Motochopper. You can downgrade to .8 and use Motochopper or - easier and better - just unlock and use Scott's recovery tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938129 to flash TWRP 2.6.1 and a then a custom rom through TWRP.

I would think that you should obtain the NVflash blobs before flashing anything else to ensure that you can go back if you somehow screw up your bootloader... You can fix most things as long as your bootloader is still intacted.. It is just my two cents..

You only can root while you on ICS version .30 or below. Once upgraded to JB there's a different procedure to obtain root. Here is the guide. If you have any question, just ask here. BTW tf700 is not same as galaxy note 2. NO ODIN for tf700.

Thanks. My asus is still on ics. Im gonna root it then upgrade to jellybean cuz ics is laggy! So to be sure here,I use the link to root then i can install cwm,then flash a costume rom like cleanrom straight from rooted ics, even if the costumerom is jellybean?

After rooted on ICS, you need to download OTA rootkeeper from the market to preserve root (keep a copy of root), then use dlpkg method (incremental upgrade) to JB. If you use Asus full JB firmware, it's going to wipe out your root. Once you on JB, use OTA root keeper to restore root, then you need to unlock your device before you can install custom recovery (TWRP/CWM). From here on you can flash any custom rom that you like. I highly recommend TWRP, it works well with tf700. Some people do have issue with CWM.

To install a custom recovery you need to unlock your device, which will void your warranty. If,after unlocking, you want to have a way to recover from any software-induced brick situations, then BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, read the nvflash thread and get the required files from your device. You cannot do this once you upgraded!

Welcome to our little company. I have the same Combination as you have. You will soon notice that this is hard to get as fluid as the note 2.
Also rooting not that easy. I am still with stock with this one.

You have to take a shot at rooting and unlocking, without them, I won't able to use my tf700, my kids actually refused to use it. After Cleanrom, they love it!
Needed to update superuser to get root.
But now it wont unlock!
Wjhen i click the unlock device it gives me some network error!
It seems that asus server wont let me unlock.
I keep getting the message in screenshot.
Ive manually downloaded the stock jb zipfile from asus site. How can I flash it to my device? Idont have cwmrecovery.

I can take a few days or weeks for new devices to become unlockable - apparently Asus' unlocking server is always behind. Usually it helps to be patient and try again after a few days.

You can do that by unpacking the UpdateLauncher zip once (another zip is inside) and putting it onto a microSD card, then boot the tablet in recovery mode (hold down Volume-down while powering on). Some guides say that you must rename the zip to something specific, I don't know if that is still true. Beware: if you upgrade, you will lose the ability to ever use nvflash because the new bootloader is more locked down and can't be downgraded. Also you will lose root by flashing a complete firmware.

Came from the Prime to the Infinity and was hoping this device was smoother/faster and it seems to be even worse. Should I give up on Asus giving us good software? It's just frustrating having an S3 being so fast and smooth being a high end device and also having 4.1.1. Why the hell can't Asus get it right too?
Should I just unlock and get a custom rom on this? Is that the only way to get this tablet to be fast and smooth?
Sorry to butt in someones thread, but...Got my Infinity today at 11 AM.... Updated to JB, rooted, installed Titanium and all goodies.
Do not feel that it's any slower than Google Nexus 10.1 in no way. Ever screen, it's a less resolution per spec does not look any different.

Yes, if you want your device to be fast and smooth you definitly need to unlock and install Cleanrom and Clemsyn kernel. Without them I probably throw mine in the trash.

I encountered a similar issue with another tab. I moved on from there to the TF700 only to relive the same experience. Next time I will do my research before buying another tab. I paid for the tab and I want to have complete control to 'abuse' it!
I've only had my TF700 for less then a week and I know already like my Galaxy S2&S3 I'm going to be rooting and installing a custom ROM on my TF700, strange that I didn't feel this way with my old Nexus 7 but man this TF700 is sweet but suffers from lag at times to where I need to do the Power/volume Down cleanout at least once a day and that helps but not enough...
As with my Galaxy S3 I don't want the newest wildest ROM rather one that is close to stock as possible YET is faster, cleaner and doesn't bog down... The double and triple taps to accomplish tasks or while browsing is driving me crazy already, I am totally surprised by this seeing this is the top of the line tablet and as good or better then the iPad hardware/processor wise..
So any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! Now I'm off to start reading up on unlock and root procedures
PS: I am believe my TF700 is up to date (Running Stock JB ver. 4.1.1)...

Interesting sdbags in the little reading up I have done that does seem to be the most logical choice.. Reminds me of KyanROM I'm running on my GS3, well other then one is ICS and the other is JB lol... But both look to be stripped down/slightly jacked up stock ROMS, I always find these types have practically little conflicts with apps and include more customazation without taking a battery hit, speaking of lol.. Are you running CleanROM now and has your battery life increased or decreased?? Obviously that isn't as important with the Tablets(you won't miss calls if you get in trouble battery wise with a Tab). Also is there any Lag with CleanROM?? It is my biggest gripe and THE reason I'm looking to Root and Flash

Pretty sure SBDags is running a version of CleanROM
Do a bit more reading up on the ROM development work for the Infinity.
You'll most likely be very happy stepping away from a stock ROM tablet and going with a custom version.

It can hardly be argues that sbdags is impartial in the matter -- I'm sure you are aware he is the developer of CROMI?
That being said, CROMI is one hell of a kick-*** ROM, and I'm currently running it myself -- it's VERY good in all regards, be it battery life or performance and fluidity. A lot of that depends on the kernel you use it with -- Clemsyn's 650 versions are really good candidates.
A little bit of the lag is still there, admittedly, but that's hardware-related and no developer can remedy that. CleanROM saved the 700 for a lot of users, and CROMI takes that a step further. Props to sbdags, obviously!

I actually didn't realize SBDags was the Dev for CleanROM lol... Seems to be a very popular ROM indeed!!
Haven't had much time to read up on unlocking and rooting yet but I'm seeing what version OS I have is quite important to how to root, I have JB 4.1.1 and I understand rooting and unlocking is different then those who had ICS..
Thank you for the Kernel/ROM combination suggestion, haven't had to deal with that much with my GS3 but with my old GS2 getting the Kernel/ROM Combo right was pretty tricky, sometimes different modems had to also be flashed to get it right..
Well after some reading here it looks a bit more complicated then I imagined to root and flash my TF700 compared to my phones...
is this correct:
First I need to get ICS Version for my TF700 off Asus site, put it on a microcard and flash back to ICS..
Then unlock, root and install RootLock.
Then update to JB.
Check and make sure my Root is still intact.
Finally install CleanROM..

If you plan to unlock anyway, you can take a shortcut: Unlock, flash TWRP via fastboot from your PC, install CleanROM.

Thanks for the reply _that, so I can use TWRP after unlocking my 4.1.1 without backpedaling to ICS and it will root and install recovery for flashing different ROMs, kernels and such?? Damn that sounds too easy lol..

TWRP _is_ a recovery for flashing stuff, and CleanROM is pre-rooted, so you don't need to root it. And if you decide to install a non-rooted ROM, you can still use TWRP to flash a Superuser app from a zip to get root.

Nice, first dumb question of the day lol.... Don't I need to be unlocked AND Rooted to install any custom recovery program??? I see you said CleanROM is already pre-rooted BUT obviously I have to install the recovery program first and thought(and in my research read) that my TF700 needs to be rooted before installing a recovery program such as Team Win's Recovery??

Now finding the unlock apk for TF700T with jelly bean 4.1.1 is not a easy find, Asus download site seems to be down and everywhere I look the only version I find is "UnLock_Device_App_V7.apk" with disclaimers of only for ICS OS not JB 4.1.1...

The tool Thats_OK pointed you toward is probably the same as you found, and the same as for the TF201 Prime and TF300T. I guess ASUS like KISS principles, hehe. It should work for JB as wel, IF you get some cooperation from the ASUS unlock server side. Apparently a lot of people have had trouble unlocking due to their device's serial number not being in the database. That's probably the biggest hurdle to overcome in the process.

I did realize that was the same Unlock download that was being listed as the one being disclaimed as for ICS only... honestly not sure what I'm going to do, don't think I'm willing to roll the dice on a Unlock attempt that may screw up my TF700 AND void my warranty...

Unlock process is very safe, its either works or not working. Most ppl bricked due to flash a wrong recovery or bootloader etc...but not unlocking.

Thank you, that's nice to know but have to say after doing some reading Adb\fastboot is looking much more complicated then methods I've used on my phones... second thoughts are creeping in lol...

adb/fastboot is nothing but a few .exe command. All you have to do is download Android SDK on your PC and install it like other software. During the install, just select Android packages (there are many in the option), should be only 2. After that there is a script (its a .bat file) to install custom recovery. This script will kick off adb and fastboot command so you automatically, all you have to do is double click on the script while connects your device to your pc. Once you have custom recovery, you home free.

Thanks buhohitr, having second thoughts now about unlocking now( too much $$ invested in tablet, keyboard and cases to blow warranty off ) and contemplating rolling back to ICS, ROOTING, using Rootlock then flashing CleanROM... probably same amount of steps plus warranty is still intact.. yes?
This is my second day at this, I just need something recent and relevant to follow, most tutorials start with having to install device drivers, which Iv done, and then installing Android SDK and fastboot, which is were the problems start, because even though some guides seem recent, once it gets to the SDK installation part, it redirects to a separate, older tutorial, that looks different from what I'm trying to do. I rooted my tf300t last year and it was was so much easier then this. I can get my tablet to boot with the RCK , Android, USB, Wipe option, but after that I'm lost, some tutorials mention unlocking the bootloader, some don't. I keep telling myself its not worth the headache, but as soon as I use my tablet, and see all the ads, pop ups, and bloated apps, I'm back online trying to figure this out.
Iv checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105949 but don't know if I'm on the right track, some assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If you are running jb then you have to unlock the bootloader first. You can download the apk from the Asus site. Once you do that, you can use the rooting guide in the general section to flash recovery, then flash root. Part 3 of this guide will help you. Its what I used and I've never looked back -

Will that wipe all the data on my tablet? I've been playing with it all day and got quite a few apps and emulators running that I'd rather not lose. Since I'm not rooted yet I can't make a backup using CWM or Titanium Backup first...

Finally got it done, seems to be working and rooted so now I'm happy, thanks for the help its very much appreciated.

It shouldn't no. Every time Asus releases an update, I flash it with twrp. I lose root and recovery, but I simply put it right back on. The data you speak of is unaffected during this process.

So I pretty much bricked my tablet and can't get into the recovery or fastboot menus and now I'm stuck at the Asus logo screen.
I've searched high and low for a way to un-brick my tablet and get it back in working order but no dice...
My question is.... Do you think/know if there will be a way to un-brick these tablets (without NVflash) in the future? I would send it in to ASUS but I literally just received it back from them due to a screen manufacturing defect.
I just wonder if someone out there has managed to do it and hasn't shared their knowledge or if someone is working on something right now.

What did you do that you bricked your tablet?
I unlocked the tablet and tried installing Twrp recovery on it. It froze every time I tried booting into recovery so I opened the fastboot menu and hit "Wipe Data" now it just sits at the boot screen with "The device is unlocked" in the corner

i guess you wiped entire your tablet so there is no system to boot.

Yeah, I think we are screwed. I have fastboot and recovery, but my recovery is the TWRP that doesn't support 4.2.1. Fastboot says is flashes, but it doesn't. It just hangs.
Without the ability to flash a working recovery, I'm afraid we can't fix it. It sucks, I bought my tablet 11 months ago. Waiting for the warranty to be almost over before i flash it. If I would have waited 2 days, I would be fine.
From what I read, Asus wants between $80 and $200.
i thought this was well know by now but by using that wipe data button you brick, completely. you cannot recover. DO NOT EVER USE "WIPE DATA" in bootloader menu. there needs to be a massive banner or something that says this when you enter the tf300 forums IMO.

Have you tried fastboot flashing the latest version of TWRP?
If you haven't tried it yet, I would recommend you follow the instruction in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
to install a patched TWRP recovery image (2.4.4.0). This should then let you reinstall a copy of the downloadable ROM from the Aus website.
Once you have installed the update you must re-install the same TWRP 2.4.4.0 again because the Asus ROM update over writes the TWRP recovery files.

lol - but who would hit something without knowing what will happen? I wouldn't dare choose this "wipe data" without knowing, what it means
You can enter wipe data from bootloader menu, when your twrp is working. When your TWRP doesn't exist, wipe data will brick your tablet. So maybe in the future we will be able to install mod which will change icon from Wipe Data to picture with Brick

Because it works if your on all stock. and apparently it can work if your twrp is working right, although i say dont even risk it. But im sure it was not known by asus when they put it in there. These tabs are just finiky like that... especially when it comes to recovery

Because it's fine with their stock firmware. They don't want you to root it and change it, because they didn't take the proper precautions to prevent bricks. I'm sure they also don't mind the free $$$ for fixing bad flashes. There is a reason why unlocking voids their warranty. They want to charge you to fix it.
I honestly can't imagine ASUS replacing the motherboard of the tablet just to fix it they must be doing something software wise.... I just wonder what it is to fix my damn tablet

im sure they have the files and knowledge to restore the tablet through apx mode. they probably use something like nvflash actually..

I think that they shouldn't replace motherboard, they only need replace nand memory. They do this for money!
I imagine it must be easier to train employees how to change the motherboard then to flash. Then just have 1 or 2 guys flash motherboards and sort them.
Or they could just be lying and just hook it up to a computer that sends the special stuff needed to flash unrestricted. Then charge you an insane amount for at most 20-30 minutes.
I'm mailing mine off today, won't get to TX until Tuesday since the weekend is here. But I think I'll get mine back before March is out. I'm not happy about the money. I waited for my warranty to be over before I decided to unlock. I killed it by being stupid. i just hope it's not more then the $87 quoted.
This tablet felt slow, never fast. App switching and soft keyboard lag was a big one. I attributed that to the crap flash memory they put in. IO is just as important as CPU/RAM. I think all owners will agree with that. I believed those that they custom firmware is so much better and the tablet speed is improved. I still do. Just sucks I have to pay quite a bit of money to get it fixed and not having a tablet for a few weeks.
I just got my TF700 today. I am prepping for REALLY long airline flights and bought this setup for the battery life so I purchased the keyboard attachment for the added battery life. It came stock with JB (can't remember the firmware #) but I was able to downgrade to firmware .30 via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925230 then rooted via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588. Playing with it tonight has angered me enough to know that I want to unlock and install a new ROM. I am aware that I cannot use NVFlash because of the .30+ firmware which angers me even more...almost to the point of returning the tablet.
On to the point:
All of the unlocking guides for the TF700 say the process is for ICS which I am running with the .30 (right?) Will the fact that I reverted from JB to ICS adversely affect the unlocking process using the methods available?
Should just return the tablet (and keyboard) and get another setup?

Unlocking works in either ICS or JB so no problem there.
If it's possible to return the tab for an ICS .21 or .26 version that would good as far as NVFlash is concerned.
Otherwise just unlock and do the custom ROM flash of your choice.

Go ahead and unlock. You will be fine. As long as you are carefull and follow instructions you shouldn't run into a problem that would require nvflash to restore

Just want to remind you of one thing, I also unlocked mine works fine, and yes it was smoother, but a few weeks ago, my tf700 was suddenly broken, did no reboot anymore.
So there goes my 700 euro tablet because with the unlock I don't have any warrenty.

No way to tell if your problem was related to the unlock procedure -- so I cannot refute that point of view, either -- but the changes are slim at best. Lots of follks -- myself included -- have unlocked succesfully and have enjyed a custom ROM since then.

All of the research I have been doing has said that .30 changed the bootloader and you cannot go back from that.

Ah,
I meant could you return the tablet to where you had bought it in hopes of obtaining a .26 versioned tablet.
True NVFlash is a no go with ICS version .30 and higher.
