Restoring with Titanium Backup on 4.3 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Guys, I would absolutely appreciate some help in working something out. I'm trying to restore both Need for Speed Most Wanted and Plants Vs. Zombies on CM 10.2 but it's just not working out. In the case of PVZ I had made all my progress on a 4.2.2 rom and then attempted to restore it with TiBu but after it's done if you tap the icon it opens but then immediately force closes. The same happens with NFS:MW with the difference being that I had made all my progress while on CM 10.2. I flashed a new CM 10.2 nightly, restored both apps, and both will open for a second then close. If I download both apps fresh from the playstore they boot up fine. I tried downloading the apps from the playstore then restoring just data but I get the same thing. I know the issue must have something to do with EAs DRM scheme but I don't know how to get around it. I managed to restore my data on NFS:MW with an altered .apk I found but I don't want to have to pirate games that I legitimately bought. FYI I went back to CM 10.1 to see if the games would restore completely and they do. I don't know what else to try, please help!

Hello, I am having the same issue. I think that it has to do with our android device ID's. Every time you wipe and flash a new rom, you are assigned a new id. Which would make sense because you say you can restore fine from your backup... This is because your backup is restoring your old android device id. I remember seeing an option somewhere in tb to restore previous android device id. This may be the solution. I hope it works, I am not willing to start nfs over again. Already have once. Good luck!

[Q] General (flashing ROM) doubts

Hey
I'm on a GSM Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod10 nightlies, and I'm noticing some lag, and so I wanted to wipe everything and flash again.
Not sure if that will help lol (noob) but I thought I'd try.
To wipe everything and keep my settings and stuff intact, what do I need to do? a nandroid? And what happened to the nandroid I made when flashing cm10? is that just stored as a recoverable file?
Thanks!
Nandroids are complete backups of your system, restoring a "laggy" system will end you up with the same laggy system, with no difference...
If you wanna get back your settings after a wipe, use Titanium Backup...though I advise against backing up system apps and data since restoring them usually gave ME force closes...
You can try wiping data, not sure if it will actually make the lag go away...
Or you could try scripts like the famous v6 supercharger memory management script (google it)...
- Via xda premium
If you did a nandroid backup before you flashed the version of the ROM that's laggy, restoring it may fix the problem, since it'll bring you back to before you flashed the ROM. (If you're doing nightlies, I'd do a nandroid before every update. Label it with the date and time you created it and save it off the phone [on a computer, laptop, USB drive, etc.])
Umm, not trying to sound like a d!ck, but you are running "nightlies" which aren't exactly known for stability. If you want your phone to run without any issues find a stable ROM and not one in nightlies. The lag you are describing is relatively common when using an unstable nightly version of a ROM as a daily driver, and if it is something you are not prepared to live with then I would always keep a "last known good" backup on your SD card...gives you a restore point with last known good settings which you can restore at any time.

[Q] Titanium Backup (TIB) freezes after rom upgrade

Hi,
I have upgraded my MZ604 to Team EOS latest stable ROM (EOS 3 JB).
Everything went fine since I have followed the instructions posted in this forum, like making a nandroid backup (just in case) and backing up my apps with CWM.
I have also done a factory reset and cleaned the Dalvik's cache.
The new ROM is really fast!!! Thanks to team EOS.
The problem started when I tried to recover my apps.
When I tried to reinstall them with TIB, it freezed.
I tried many times with different options and none of them worked.
Finally I reinstalled everything from the market, and my tablet is up and running again.
Since I intend to try the nitgly versions from now on, I would like to understand what I am doing wrong, since it takes a long time to download and configure all the apps I have installed.
Any help?
Thank you.
I hear ya there mine installed 28 of 31 apps and froze! Any help on this?
I had something similar a while back and in my case, the apps that would not restore with TB were in the data/app-asec directory, as opposed to data/app....
app-asec was introduced in Jellybean (I think) and is where a lot of paid apps may now reside. It's an anti-piracy measure I think and for me, TB would struggle to install them here.
My solution was to amend my TB prefs to force all restores to go to Internal Storage. It was previously set to "where backup was taken from". Forcing it to internal restores them to data/app and that has worked fine for me since....

[Q] Which app to restore apps/settings after installing ROM?

I installed B145 with the kat 80b kernel and the v3 battery patch and everything looks good. I had to swipe as I was using build 81 before. Quite honestly, since I'm not running any synthetic benchmarks nor overclocking the proc, I'm hard pressed to find any difference in performance from EOS 3. Mind you, the buttery feel on this ROM (and EOS 3, for that matter) is day and night when compared to Asus's stock code. So if you're like me and waited this long to root your Transformer (I popped its cherry just a month ago, after having it for 1 year), don't be afraid to try this ROM... the best thing to have happenned to the og transformer.
One question I have is, what are you guys using to constantly restore your apps and/or settings after repeatedly flashing new ROMs? It's a pain in the neck having to reinstall all the apps and setting them up! Thank you and special thanks to Timduru and his minions This thing is awesome...

I use Titanium Backup, but I let Google install all my apps, then restore the data.
There are a few apps I have to install using Titanium (from Amazon) that I have to restore using Titanium. Those apps I have to tap the Install button and Done for each one.
I tried using the App Backup in the ROM Toolbox by Jrummy, but it did not restore all the data correctly (mainly thumb keyboard).
I also make nandroid backups using TWRP so I can quickly restore a working ROM without having to reinstall stuff if something goes south.
I also use Titanium Backup but with some reservations. If you're going to go back to the ROM you're running, you're much better off with a nandroid backup. TB is cool for a few reasons: batch backup/restore, system apps or just apps, etc... however you have to be careful with it.
- Make sure you always verify your backups (often). Never assume "they'll work", cause they most likely won't - that's a known issue that it fails to parse its own packages once in a while, so batch restores just lock up the entire operation and you have to forcibly kill it to start where it left off.
- Always keep a copy of the backups elsewhere than on the tablet
- Just because it backs up a system app or an app doesn't mean it can restore it, even on the same rom.
- Some stuff like contacts need to be exported then imported back especially if you're upgrading to another android version.
- System apps will almost always fail to install on another android version unless they were "hacked" to make them work.
So yeah it's a really good and powerful tool but to use with caution. Always redo full backups and verify them before you wipe/flash and always have a complete nandroid backup to restore in case of issues, like Frederuco said.
Edit: Once you're on Team EOS's roms, I dount think you have to do a full wipe anymore. I just wipe cache, dalvik and system, then flash the new rom, that way all my apps are still there. I only do a full reset if I experience issues after doing this, to make sure it's the rom and not apps, and to report to Tim from a fresh flash.
Thank you both. I'll give Titanium a try whenever I try another ROM. In the meantime I decided to go back to EOS3 build 81. I *really* don't like the new status bar on top. It specially bugs me when browsing the web since it's eating up screen real estate.
[Edit]
This is probably a known issue, but for those going back from EOS 4 to EOS 3: the directory /sdcard was copied to /sdcard/0 after installing EOS 4; so, when I restored EOS 3 from nandroid backup, the system wasn't responding as it should and some apps were very slow (I guess expecting to find their data under /sdcard). Copying /sdcard/0 back to /sdcard and rebooting made everything work much better. Thanks.

From what I've read this is an issue with CWM. I saw frederuco mention it on the EOS 4 thread.
I had the same problem, went from build 92 to preview 145 and Titanium Backup couldn't find anything. I was pulling my hair out until I saw his post
If you use TWRP 2.3.2.3 the /0 directory issue goes away.
Also, TWRP IMO is much better than any CWM to date.

Titanium Backup troubleshooting

So I have been using TB for years now, since back in the day that I had the HTC Hero and I have never had a problem with it until now. There are some certain apps that it will just not restore no matter what I try. It begins restoring the others just fine but when it gets to the same exact apps, it just stops and freezes.
I am using the Restore missing apps with data option.
I have tried deleting all backups and backing up again. I have tried verifying my backups various times. I have also tried not using batch restore for those specific apps (Going directly to that app and restoring just that one app with and without data, and it just hangs as well).
I am using SuperSU with my binary updated and busy box installed. I also changed the application processing mode to indirect. Is anyone else having this same issue? Its not on one specific rom, it happens on every rom I flash may it be stock based or aosp. I have exactly 112 apps backed up so when I have to force stop TB, and go back to uncheck the apps that are not restoring various times to restore the rest, it sucks especially since I am very picky with things working as they should.
Apps it will not restore:
Tippy Tipper
Subway Surfer
Nimble Quest
Battlefriends at sea gold
Commander (Star wars)
Instasize
If anyone has any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it, please let me know. Thank you beforehand!
What kernel do you have installed?
Stock CM that came with the official CM12 rom.
But either way, I have had this issue on every rom I have flashed.

Do you have SELinux in permissive mode?

I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux
I tested this out and I am still having the same issue with the same apps.
I am having a similar issue. Diff device, but I couldn't find any other info. Oddly yesterday it restored no problem.
I was on a diff rom tho. Maybe I'll flash another rom.

If you go to the play store are you able to install them? I have had a few that i can't restore, but once I've installed them from the play store I can restore the backed up data. I haven't been able to figure out why some restore and others don't (unless they aren't compatible with the DPI and the Android version I've found a few that when you look them up in the play store they are not compatible)

I have been able to install them from the play store without any issue, I just can't restore them using TB no matter what I try. And its weird that its the same apps every time. So it is something that those apps have that does not get along. Can someone manipulate the situation and check on their end? I am running Illusion (Latest version from the 18th) and latest version of TB. See if you can restore those specific apps backed up from any rom.
Try changing the mount namespace separation setting in super su. I got that message when I first installed titanium it was a warning I don't know what it does or if it will fix your problem
I realized today that when backing up the specific apps after deleting all backups (Fresh backup), it rushes through those specific apps like as if it doesn't want to back it up but it doesn't give me an error message.
some apps don't like restoring to a different rom than they were made on.
Have you tried using the option in TB to create an update.zip you can then flash?
Hi there in desperation I come to this thread. Ive tried everything thats suggested in this thread and more.
TT backup Pro home page shows all necessary items like Root etc checked.
Problems with Pro:
1..Nandroid restore crashes immediately on item selection eg as soon as Menu Item Nandroid is selected Titanium crashes.
2..As mentioned by others, some apps wont restore; TT sits there in restore mode with nothing happening. This is on several apps.
3..Menu/Backup data to XML Bookmarks=yes Messages=yes Call log=crash/'Unfortunately, TT bup has stopped.'
4..Several other annoyances in reliability but the above are most important.
I have politely asked Titanium for support but they dont bother answering. After a few days waiting I gave the app a feedback of 1 on Play thinking that would get some response but no!
In 20 years of computer work, I have never had a software supplier with such a terrible support policy, and the feedback page for this app supports this comment.
Im sorry to have to come to this forum asking for help, but the Titanium folks leave me no choice.
As an aside I also use 'Backup Your Mobile' which IMHO is better at restoring settings and reliably restores apps with settings at no cost if you can put up with the ads.
Kind regards,
Alistair.
Since this post and no replies I have submitted 2 more support requests with TTBup support which is done via a web page interface. I even supplied a small video showing the problem. Alogcat does not report any errors which is odd.
Still no replies from TTBup support.

Moving to a new ROM

I've been using RobbieL811 Uber rom for quite a while but now development seems to have come to a halt. A couple of posters say move to a new ROM so I tried Resurrection Remix. I don't have time to move my data (Inc save games that don't cloud save) individually, so I Googled the best way to do this. I got a load of 2013 posts about restoring the data partition from the nandroid backup. After installing RR and restoring the backup of the data I just get boot freeze. Is there something I'm missing?

I don't know who said to restore a data backup from a nandroid, that's wrong, it's a huge no-no. The data backup includes all data from the ROM, not just apps, so it's attempting to restore incompatible system settings and stuff like that. You can just use Titanium Backup to make backups of your apps and then restore them after you've flashed your new ROM.
Yep titanium is what u need

Thanks for your assist guys, tried what you suggested and it worked! Until I rebooted. Now it just boots for ages. And nothing else. I've unselected any system apps.

Exactly what did you do? You need to provide a detailed account of everything that lead to this point. What did you restore with Titanium?
I did two over the course of the night, the first I restored everything, including system apps like dialler, Gmail etc. But this broke it. So I wiped, installed, and restored only missing apps and data. Still broken on reboot.

You can't restore system apps/data, that's why it was borked the first time. It's also possible that you restored system/app data the second time too. Only ever restore user apps.

After using titanium to restore user apps and data, some apps just force closed on opening unless I removed the data then it worked. Decided to restore from backup and give it up until 6.0 rom appears.
Make sure you start with a clean slate. Factory reset and flash new Rom before restoring any backup. Are you good up to that point?
I don't know what you're doing wrong man, I change ROMS every now and then, and I just backup my games and apps with Titanium Backup, install new ROM, and restore my apps, always works unless you mess up real bad
titanium backup pro (worth it for flashaholics) or zipme

i have never had that issues on 5 different phones and multiple different roms... try rom toolbox or zipme
Finally gave it one last ditch attempt (well two, actually).
Tried flashing Sultan Cm12 rom, but it unroots the device so bailed on it.
Put latest Resurrection Remix on, restored user apps but was more careful about when I restored. Mostly Google apps and some xposed apps, some Robbie rom stuff that wasn't needed and voila! Posting this from a working rom! Had to reinstall xposed framework and Waze from scratch but that's fine.
Thanks for the support guys!
