[Q] PS3 controller and Bluez IME on Shield - Shield Q&A

So I'm sure this question has been asked and answered but I'd like to use a PS3 controller (or possibly another Bluetooth controller) on my Shield but I'm not sure how. I wanna be able to sit on the couch and play emulators without looking at one screen in my face and be able to play games multiplayer. Help would me much appreciated. I'm semi-new to Android. Before owning the shield I had a phone for a bit last year but couldn't get a controller to work on that either.

I also would like to try that.
with ipega or moga controller.

Don't know about the PS3 controller, but I use the OnLive BY controller and use the HDMI port on SHIELD to my TV...

Yes, works great.
You can use also a Xbox controller with a USB receiver.
If you want to use the PS3 controller you have to root your shield and use the famous sixaxis app from google play. To use the Xbox controller you don't need to root, because you're actually connecting the receiver to the USB in the shield.
Now that I tried both I prefer PS3 controller, because involves less cables and with the sixaxis app you can map buttons and change a lot of things.
I created a thread about gamepads here:

[Q] Where are we at on intergrating a ps3 or 360 controller for emulator use?

I know that on the Xoom, the new 3.1 allowed some very basic use of the ps3 controller, but what about full use with one or two controllers connected bluetooth to the Transformer?
Is this something we'll have to wait for proper support for, or can this be wired into a rom?
Thanks for the replies folks.
My tf is in the mail now and i would love to see the xbox 360 controller utilized in games such as dungeon defenders, or gun bros, or any emulator games. is there anything the xda community could do to help this concept along or is there just hours and hours of coding to be done to get the controller up and running correctly?
It shouldn't be that difficult. xpad.ko is floating around for Android 2.2 devices and works nicely on devices such as the Advent Vega.
I'm sure it will happen in time.

[Q] controller support?

i was wondering if anyone has tried using a wired 360 controller with the 7 inch tab?
i just subscribed to ONLIVE and was wondering if the 360 controller is supported?
or maybe the ps3 axis controller?
any info would be useful, thanks
I use the ps3 sixaxis controller with no issues. I use it for emulators. Available in the play store as "sixaxis controller".
Requires the use of your computer "first" to download the sixaxis program to "manually" input the Bluetooth ID into your ps3 sixaxis controller for pairing.
yup. sixaxis is compatible with tab 2 7.0.
see my personal video for games tested.

thanks for the input guys. has anyone tried the ps3 controller on the onlive app?

I'm going to take a shot in the dark with your question and say that it should work because sixaxis registers itself as a keyboard input. So you should be able to remap the onscreen inputs for onlive to the corresponding buttons on the ps3 sixaxis.
I'm not familiar with onlives controller so let's say if the onlive app has 4 action buttons that are registered as "a,b,c,d", then you would just remap sixaxis' "square, X, circle, triangle" to "a,b,c,d".
Hope that makes sense.
would a 3rd party ps3 controller still work?
I know nothing about these things but I can get a 3rd party controller a bit cheaper purely for my emulators
edit: I have a wired 360 controller here, how would I get that to work? thanks

For wired USB input devices, you need to buy the Samsung USB Connector EPL-1PL0BEGXAR. A wired 360 controller is plug and play.
Roughly about $10 on amazon

Game controller with Bluetooth for games Question

Can I use a bluetooth wimote or bluetooth playstation controller with the Note 10.1. I would like to play some old Nintendo games I used to play back in the day with the emulators. I read that you can use bluetooth controllers when playing games which I would prefer since the whole on screen controls don't appeal to me and I find it difficult. My question is do I need root in order to set this up or can I do it with stock on the 10.1. I heard of some sixaxis app or something but don't know if I need it. looking for some help since I'm sure others on this board know a lot more about this than I do. If anyone has any other advice for me...I'm all ears. Thanks

I'm not sure about the Wii mote, but the Sixaxis app is specific to playstation controllers I believe and requires root so i doubt it would work on the stock 10.1.

+1 for this query.
On the TF101, you just needed to connect a PS3 pad via the USB port and press some buttons to verify it worked. This in turn synced the controller. After this switching on the tablets blue tooth and pressing the PS logo on the PS3 controller would allow it to work via blue tooth. No root or sixaxis app needed. I'm guessing that won't work here?
What about purchasing the usb connector kit for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that supposedly works with the Note 10.1. Get the connection kit plug in the usb controller into the usb port on the connection kit and see if it allows it to synch with bluetooth like you listed above. I would love to know if this works.
If you want to play Nintendo games I suggest the NES.emu emulator from the play store. It will discover wii motes in app and you can use them to play. Works very well with no root.

PS3 Sixaxis controller needs root and the app. You can always use an xbox controller wired or wireless (with dongle via usb and app) more work though. Or connect a bluetoothe keyboard or wired keyboard.
As for emulators I recomend that you get droidemu lite and support the developer and get the full support as this emulator has all worthy emulators in it except n64 and ps1. He is very responsive to issues and fixed issues in a timely manner.
I just tested with mine and I was able to connect a Wii Remote using WiimoteController in less than 5 minutes. I tried it for a few minutes in GTA3, no problems so far.
Can confirm Sony PS3 wireless bluetooth controller works with SixAxis but requires root. Aside from the convenience of wireless controller it also extends the life of your port connector from wear and tear.

[Q] Controller App (Android to PC)

I was looking for an app that would emulate an XBOX 360 Controller on android and make it work via wifi to my PC.
It's like this apps of Mouse/Keyboard remote, so I could play away from PC, like laying on the bed. Is there an app like that?
Hello,
I never seen that kind of app.
How could an android (phone?) device replace a gamepad?
Or so, how could you use it?
To have an idea, test a snes emulator and you'll see that's not realy playable without true buttons/cross/sticks...
I would buy a wireless gamepad for computer or use a PS3 controller with a BT dongle.

The same way there's a WiFi Mouse & Keyboard app could be one WiFi Controller app.
I agree it's not as comfortable as a real gamepad but you get used to it. I have no problems playing games on ePSXe for example.

Just using the touchscreen no! However i believe that you can use a bluetooth keyboard+mouse to play
Or a spare PS3/4 controller + Sixaxis app, works fantastic. I've read Xbox 360/One controllers also work but i don't own one to test it.
If you have an OTG USB hub you can also use USB mouse and keyboard (and even USB Ethernet adaptor) to play on GRID.
I think the whole point of the post is to be able to play games on the Shield tablet without using a cumbersome gamepad, keyboard or mouse. A virtual gamepad overlay would be a great addition to the Shield tablet. Even if it doesn't work as well as a real gamepad, at least it's an option. If I'm going somewhere, I don't want to have to drag a MOGA controller with me in addition to the tablet. Would rather just hold the tablet and be done with it.
