[Q] Where are we at on intergrating a ps3 or 360 controller for emulator use? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that on the Xoom, the new 3.1 allowed some very basic use of the ps3 controller, but what about full use with one or two controllers connected bluetooth to the Transformer?
Is this something we'll have to wait for proper support for, or can this be wired into a rom?
Thanks for the replies folks.

My tf is in the mail now and i would love to see the xbox 360 controller utilized in games such as dungeon defenders, or gun bros, or any emulator games. is there anything the xda community could do to help this concept along or is there just hours and hours of coding to be done to get the controller up and running correctly?

It shouldn't be that difficult. xpad.ko is floating around for Android 2.2 devices and works nicely on devices such as the Advent Vega.
I'm sure it will happen in time.

Use Controller with Android Games?

Is it possible to either an Xbox360 or PS3 controller with Android Games such as Sprinkle, Angry Birds, Dungeon Defenders, T-Racer, etc...?
I'm also getting mixed info on whether or not its possible to use PS3 and Xbox360 controllers Wirelessly?

not sure about those games but i use a wii remote for all my emulator games.
The game/application must explicitly support it. The only ones I know of that do right now are the emulators, Riptide, and the new Shadowgun(awesome btw).
I think you can use the XBOX 360 controller wirelessly with the USB dongle, which kinda defeats the purpose. No clue about PS3
Thanks, that's what I figured.
You can use the psĀ³ controller wirelessly with an app called sixaxis. Works amazing on shadowgun and emulators. Im sure itd also work with riptide but i dont have that game.
Thanks! I'll try it out.

The PS3 SixAxis app does the same thing as the WiiMote app. It binds the buttons to letters... which can be MAPPED in Emulators and games that support button bindings.
So Wireless gameplay on native android apps is probably a no go (except ShadowRun since it supports button bindings).
WIRED gameplay is totally different. Android supports WIRED controllers out of the box since 3.1 or 3.2... This should work... to some extent. Your using a controller for a game which requires touch input... may not work well. YMMV!

which driver do you use? I used RWiimote back in the day with my G2 without issue, but it immediately force closes on the transformer.
I got sixaxis working great last night, but it slugs the game down pretty bad. But at the time I was just rooted with bone stock otherwise, I'm in the process of flashing a custom rom, hopefully runs better with CPU tweaks. The only issue I was having with emulators was that I had to specifically select "Use Input Method" in SNES Emu, and I think N64 the option is called Use IME.

SNES Four Players?

Hi There,
I'm using the Sixaxis app to connect four PS3 controllers. I am using SuperGNES for SNES emulation.
Wondered if anyone had any success configuring and using four PS3 controllers (or Wii remotes) to play games like Super Bomberman or NHL 94?
If so how do you configure four controllers? I can only see options for two.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
- Sean
I can't help you.. but..
Wii-motes? :O Please give more info.
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm using a Wifi Motorola Xoom, running ICS and attempting to use any SNES emulator in conjunction with four Playstation 3 controllers. The controllers themselves are easily recognized via Bluetooth by the SixAxis Controller app, but I cannot seem to find an emulator for Android that supports more than two of them.
While I was able to get four Nintendo Wii Wiimotes recognized and configured via Snes9x EX, I'd really prefer to get four Playstation 3 controllers working.
Just wondered if anyone had ever attempted this and found success.
Wait, I think I found your problem. IIRC, SNES had a max of 2 controller ports. Even PC emulators can't run in 3-4+ player mode.
N64 has 4 players.
But are you saying 4-players works fine with the wiimotes..?
Hey StickMan,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Actually the SNES released a peripheral called the "Multitap" which allowed four player gameplay with certain games. Among them was NHL 94.
I was actually successful in getting four players to work with an emulator called
Snes9x EX which allows you to "Enable Multitap".
I was then able to connect and configure four Wiimote controllers and play with four players.
Snes9x EX has native support for Wiimote controllers, but I could not seem to connect or configure PS3 controllers.
Would love to be able to get those working!

Game controller with Bluetooth for games Question

Can I use a bluetooth wimote or bluetooth playstation controller with the Note 10.1. I would like to play some old Nintendo games I used to play back in the day with the emulators. I read that you can use bluetooth controllers when playing games which I would prefer since the whole on screen controls don't appeal to me and I find it difficult. My question is do I need root in order to set this up or can I do it with stock on the 10.1. I heard of some sixaxis app or something but don't know if I need it. looking for some help since I'm sure others on this board know a lot more about this than I do. If anyone has any other advice for me...I'm all ears. Thanks

I'm not sure about the Wii mote, but the Sixaxis app is specific to playstation controllers I believe and requires root so i doubt it would work on the stock 10.1.

+1 for this query.
On the TF101, you just needed to connect a PS3 pad via the USB port and press some buttons to verify it worked. This in turn synced the controller. After this switching on the tablets blue tooth and pressing the PS logo on the PS3 controller would allow it to work via blue tooth. No root or sixaxis app needed. I'm guessing that won't work here?
What about purchasing the usb connector kit for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that supposedly works with the Note 10.1. Get the connection kit plug in the usb controller into the usb port on the connection kit and see if it allows it to synch with bluetooth like you listed above. I would love to know if this works.
If you want to play Nintendo games I suggest the NES.emu emulator from the play store. It will discover wii motes in app and you can use them to play. Works very well with no root.

PS3 Sixaxis controller needs root and the app. You can always use an xbox controller wired or wireless (with dongle via usb and app) more work though. Or connect a bluetoothe keyboard or wired keyboard.
As for emulators I recomend that you get droidemu lite and support the developer and get the full support as this emulator has all worthy emulators in it except n64 and ps1. He is very responsive to issues and fixed issues in a timely manner.
I just tested with mine and I was able to connect a Wii Remote using WiimoteController in less than 5 minutes. I tried it for a few minutes in GTA3, no problems so far.
Can confirm Sony PS3 wireless bluetooth controller works with SixAxis but requires root. Aside from the convenience of wireless controller it also extends the life of your port connector from wear and tear.

[Q] PS3 controller and Bluez IME on Shield

So I'm sure this question has been asked and answered but I'd like to use a PS3 controller (or possibly another Bluetooth controller) on my Shield but I'm not sure how. I wanna be able to sit on the couch and play emulators without looking at one screen in my face and be able to play games multiplayer. Help would me much appreciated. I'm semi-new to Android. Before owning the shield I had a phone for a bit last year but couldn't get a controller to work on that either.
I also would like to try that.
with ipega or moga controller.
Don't know about the PS3 controller, but I use the OnLive BY controller and use the HDMI port on SHIELD to my TV...

Yes, works great.
You can use also a Xbox controller with a USB receiver.
If you want to use the PS3 controller you have to root your shield and use the famous sixaxis app from google play. To use the Xbox controller you don't need to root, because you're actually connecting the receiver to the USB in the shield.
Now that I tried both I prefer PS3 controller, because involves less cables and with the sixaxis app you can map buttons and change a lot of things.
I created a thread about gamepads here:

Hi, i'm not to knowledgeable on bluetooth controllers on the Shield or other android devices (such as the nyko line of bluetooth controllers). But the only method (that I have experience with) is with sony's six-axis controller for the ps3. I have two ps3 controllers and rooted multiple of my android devices (Asus tf700 tablet, Nexus S, and Shield) and paired my PS3 controllers by a simple procedure to get both to work on my device (using an app called "Sixaxis Controller"). This is the only method that i have experience with that would let you play with 2 controllers on a 2 player game running on a emulator. Sorry if this isn't the answer you're looking for, but this is the only method i know that works for me.
Requirements:
- rooted device
- two ps3 controllers
- pc
- Sixaxis Controller app
