[Q] How to get from GB to ICS - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Its been a long time and I recall needing to flash a MTD rom before flashing any ICS rom.
Can anyone link me to such ROM with directions?

Yes i have looked and looked none of them really really help me in my search they just tell me stuff that i dont get im not new to this stuff jsut the help is confusing
Click on my "Helpful Links" signature below. Then see the Guides and Root (How to). That's about as easy as it is gonna get, apart from someone taking ur phone and doin it for ya.
Guide of Guides
I just went through the process of rooting and roming for the first time and wrote this up for a buddy of mine interested in doing the same. The fact that this is the first time I've done this should be a bit of a warning though. Still, it worked for me.
Here's basically what I did. You might want to read through them all before starting.
Backup manually by mounting your phone to your computer and copying everything you care about
Root
I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444382
From a Mac, I think you can do the same, but flash with Heimdall instead of Odin
Now that you have root, get Titanium Backup from the Market and backup
This is an awesome app, you can also use it to remove the AT&T bloatware, which will really improve your phone
Install ClockworkMod (aka, CWM)
Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=566807&d=1302623831
Follow ROM instructions
I used Slim ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517486
Download and install instructions on the web site: http://www.slimroms.com/
Grab a nightly CM9 ROM for that: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=captivatemtd
any other help?
Again what stock ROM are you on?

Were the instructions I posted not helpful? I thought they were very clear ... not necessarily my steps, but the content in the links.

I think he's saying that instead of Designgear's one-click, which will take you back to stock Eclair, you could use a Froyo-based one-click to go back to stock Froyo.

flashing back to eclair as the OP said is probably easier. With 2e recovery, there's no need to modify the 3e recovery file or flash a custom kernel. Just load up cwm.zip on your SD card and flash away.

I don't know that the thing you're looking for exists right now. AdamOutler made a Heimdall-based Froyo one-click, but I don't think there is an Odin-based one.
At the moment, it looks like your choices are to use the Odin-based one-click (by Designgears or Cezar, depending on your bootloader needs), or the Heimdall-based one-click of Froyo.

Flash Noob

I have a rooted skyrocket, with touch clockworkmod, and i was wondering. If i were to flash a rom onto my skyrocket, and i decided to return to stock, can i still flash it using cwm or must i use odin? I saw a thread earlier informing to use odin to get back to stock, but im just making sure its ok that i use cwm instead thanks. Sorry again, im a noob
Cwm will stay on your phone. Just use a rom thats rooted. (If it doesnt say its not then it surely is) all will be well.

if the dev of the rom says its ok to use rom manager, fine, but if you are having problems w/said rom dont go trying to find solutions if your first problem was using rom manager, you just wont know if thats the cause or not.
cwm is your friend, its easy to use, and gives you the user the the power of android........yes i said it , i almost wrote the power of grey skull(heman quote)

U can use rom manager but problems are much more likely. I recommend doing any cwm activities from within cwm itself. I flashed for the first time 1 month ago and I fully understand where u are coming from. It may look intimidating but once u start it is quite simple

Yes I like Sky ICS much better than stock. When I say stock though I refer to 2.3.6. I haven't use stock 4.0.4. And yes I love Sky ICS. I highly recommend it. The rom is very stable, smooth, good battery life and great dev (SeanZ)

Can I flash from froyo stock to ics (AOKP) custom?

Hey guys, complete newb here. Just got done reading tons of thread and about ready to flash but just wanted to clear some things up before i begin.
I was going to follow the instructions on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1733097
and just flash after i install cmw, but then i looked around at some other roms and they all say I need ICS to flash.
I am currently on stock froyo and have only rooted with super one click i think.
Do i need to upgrade to some gingerbread rom first? Or can I go directly to ics?
Thanks!
Follow this guide it will get you to gingerbread and rooted. Then flash a antonx's kernel and you will be able to get AOKP.

That guide is fairly general in that it just refers to the 'latest version of CyanogenMod'. So yes as per the OP of the thread I linked you to you will need to install 3.32 firmware. You could install over your current ROM if you really wanted but I'd recommend a full wipe for a nice clean installation.
CM7 is Gingerbread based and CM9 is ICS based so yes you will end up with a newer version of Android, hence the need for the newer firmware.

Firmware isn't removed with the wipe so it doesn't matter too much. I would wipe, install new firmware, install ROM and you should be good to go :good:
Make sure you do a nandroid backup before you start anything, if things go pear-shaped you'll want it. Also make sure you have access to a copy of your current firmware, if you have to restore your nandroid backup AFTER installing the new firmware it won't work as the firmware will no longer match, so you'll have to roll that back too.

[Q] How to downgrade??

Hey guys I'm on a rooted ics rom, and while it's nice and all, it just doesnt suit me, so I was wondering how to downgrade back to gingerbread, if it matters, I plan on using the octane rom, because I really liked the battery. Anyway so I'm sure I dont just flash octane right? Thank you in advance.
