I have a rooted skyrocket, with touch clockworkmod, and i was wondering. If i were to flash a rom onto my skyrocket, and i decided to return to stock, can i still flash it using cwm or must i use odin? I saw a thread earlier informing to use odin to get back to stock, but im just making sure its ok that i use cwm instead thanks. Sorry again, im a noob
Cwm will stay on your phone. Just use a rom thats rooted. (If it doesnt say its not then it surely is) all will be well.

the rom i was referring to is {STOCK} {ICS} {UCLF6} {4.0.4} - CWM5 ZIP - DeOdexed - ZipAligned - 10-JUL-2012 , its not rooted but is cwm flashable

U can use rom manager but problems are much more likely. I recommend doing any cwm activities from within cwm itself. I flashed for the first time 1 month ago and I fully understand where u are coming from. It may look intimidating but once u start it is quite simple

Okay I literally just got this phone yesterday and I see all this talk about Gingerbread and how great it is so I decided I want to try it. I know next to nothing about all the technicalities about this phone so I youtube'd how to do it and found this video that I plan to use to help me in the process. - watch?v=YuURgkUYn1A
So if I follow that process and use the files he uses, I should have Gingerbread and still have my connection to AT&T, GPS, and WiFi? Also, when AT&T finally does release it officially, will I be able to just go to Software Update on the menu and get the official AT&T Firmware and not have to worry about all this technical stuff again?

Try THIS link out, its got pretty much everything you want to know to get started(including vids). The only things that don't work on GB currently HDMI and on some of the roms, bluetooth. If you want to get the official OTA when it drops you will have to go back to stock, easiest way is to use THIS method. Also when GB does drop, Devs most likely will make their own roms based on the official GB.
Once your rooted and have recovery installed use THIS thread to find the ROM you want...
This is just a rough overview, so make sure you READ carefully and take your time, any question you have is usually answered in the appropriate thread.
Here is a link to the latest AT&T Gingerbread leak. Use Odin to flash it, and if you stick with the included stock kernel, everything works as it should. It looks very close to being ready for release. If you want it rooted, flash Entropy's kernel and then use CWM recovery and the Superuser zip you can find on here to install su. Then, flash the stock kernel again to keep everything working (video, bluetooth, etc.).:

That's legit Dman, it seems you learn a new trick on a daily basis; ports, roms and now kernels. I'm loving how the infuse development is still kickin!
So back on topic lol. Xia, Dman's CatyRom is one of the most recent GB roms (and plenty more), it's based off of the leaks from At&t. Once your ready, look into that!
Edit: Nevermind my question, dman, thanks anyway for what you're doing.
To the OP, a good AOSP Gingerbread rom that I keep coming back to is Serendipity VII. I hope that MikeyMike will still come back to update that one when we get the official AT&T Gingerbread.
You can find that here.: http://serendipityinfuse.weebly.com/

First of all, After reading a lot here (maybe not enough) Thanks for all you have done and are doing..
As my post count shows i am a supernoob at this android phone stuff with this being my first smart phone..I would like to ask you a question in regards to your [ROM][2.3.6]SGH-I997 UCLB1 [Rooted, deodexed, busybox].
I updated my phone through kies mini with the first Samsung release of GB so it is not rooted and you say flash your ROM with CWM which needs root that I don't have.
Can i flash this ROM with ODIN since from what I have read does not require root? (Or am I wrong thinking ODIN does not need root access?)
I'll be honest some of the threads about flashing are pretty confusing when you have never done it before.
Anyhow... Thanks in advance for any reply..
P.S. I give you total permission to hit me upside the head with the stupid stick if I missed the answer to this..
No.. you cannot flash with Odin.... my suggestion is to Odin gtg unbrick.... or flash the community gb kernel to cwm, then wipe and flash my rom ... it is only cwm flashable... if u use gtg unbrick, then root with superoneclick, 3e modified recovery to get cwm, then flash my rom. You will not be able to flash it from the official update. Good luck bro

The rom's provided in the developer section are the only roms that are compatable with the Skyrocket or i727. I dont believe there are any mirror roms of the S3. There are roms with features from S3 though.
thank you...hopefully it will come out soon though...thats the only rom that seems to interest me unfortunately
Flashing an s3 rom on the skyrocket is a sure fire way to brick your phone. I recommend reading some of the stickies in the General section, which should have this answer among others.

Mohans drains battery faster from my experience. Even under clocked and under volted. If you don't care about bln, grab the other kernel.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I am running the non-mohan kernel on mine and wifes phone. It is the smoothest, best battery life, ICS I have ran. Like other wise men said, just read the post, download required software, and go! It is quite easy, even from an old farts' perspective.
BTW, would not hurt to make nandroid backup of current state before trying.
ODIN is your friend!
Cyanogenmod started doing nightly builds for the skyrocket, i'm running it right now. The lock screen tends to lock up for a few seconds, but otherwise a very stable build. No FCs so far.

It's the radio from the newest att leak. You'll need an ics radio for ics.

Does the new ICS for the att version of the skyrocket have a safe kernal or is it still at risk of having the emmc corrupted?
Update: it seems the brick bug is in the stock ics 4.0.4 , use caution when wiping back to factory. Entropy512 has informed me that the att rom has the mmc_cap_erase command in a host file where rogers does not. I will update as soon as more info becomes available to me.
Wipe internal in the rom and let us know

The answer is not in your sig. It may not be possible to tell until the source drops but maybe a dev has some insight.

Was a little random. But I was in a car at the time. All I was trying to get across is that I couldn't have done that process with this brickbug being a prob.

You are incorrect as from what I understood from your original post you were on a rooted gb rom and flashed back to stock in order to update via kies. 1st off, gb kernels aren't an issue and 2nd, Odin is a safe work around the brick bug issue.
No where in here do u say that u went into the settings on ics and performed a factory reset. That will be the true test
Edit: I revisited your post and see youbdidnt specify gb vs ics but even if u were on ics and went back to stock this wouldn't be a problem through Odin

Nope. I was on Embryo 4.1-->GB(no root)-->then kies upgrade to ICS-->then flashed recovery--> then back to Embryo 4.1......
....for what it's worth. No offense dude.

??? What do u mean no offense?
I didn't read anything offensive. I was just trying to wrap my head around what u were talking about. I understand now. As I stated in my previous post though the gb kernels were not affected.
To anyone in "the know", I assume brick bug had been addressed and the kernels fixed but can anyone actually CONFIRM this? Thanks

And as for the erasing photos and all. Flashing does *NOT* delete the contents of the internal or external sdcard (except for platform specific data). It will delete /system /data and /cache, read the pinned threads here on what that means (as the install instructions says, you will have to do that step anyways and make a nandroid backup).."

Yes. Same method ever since we got ICS beta. install CWM recovery. boot into it. flash superuser zip. You need to try installing it 2-4 times on top of itself until it says it is successful.

There are already many threads on how to root ics. A simple Google or xda search would help you in finding the info you seek without starting another pointless thread. My advice read the stickies read the stickies read the stickies.....

I considered rooting my gf's stock ICS but didn't want to have to manually update her phone so CWM appeared to be problematic; she likes to be able to update it the normal way. Is this unfeasible?

Well, chances are we won't be getting any more updates and if we do get jb from att it will be a ways down the road. So, you may not have the chance to update anymore if u remain stock (UNrooted that is). Cwm is actually quite simple to use once u start using it.

you can flash cwm and when you want stock you can flash back to stock firmwares and receive "future" updates, but you can always flash stock with odin as odin doesnt care if you are rooted or not, any future updates well it seems sammobile posts stock firmwares on their site .
in my sig theres a link on how to odin stock
www <dot> androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-skyrocket-att-sgh-i727-android-4-0-3-root-72082/
(Except I had to use a different Recovery program, since for some reason, some of them won't mount /sdcard/ on my phone. Also, be sure to hit it 2-4 times like Lucidmike said.)
